The 2024 Rock Cobbler. I rode the “easier” Pebbler route and it still destroyed me.
The even was organized amazingly well. The community was amazing. Everyone was your new best friend on the route. We all helped each other get through it.

I’m in Bakersfield I’m talking from my car.  What a stereotype. Let’s do a dumb bike ride Find the easy gear huh Good morning. I’m at the hotel. I wish  I could have uh slept more but actually   I got a pretty good night of sleep. I’m  having the crappy in room Hotel coffee,

Which is basically instant coffee, but hey  I get free. And um packed up about to check   out go to the race get my free breakfast. I  was looking at my bicycle and I noticed this   from the ShakeOut ride yesterday. I have two  goat heads stuck in my tire. I am not going

To pull those out because if I do there’ll be  sealant and Gunk spinning so they’re actually   Tire plugs until they fall out and then hooray for  tubeless first tubeless race ride whatever. yay. So, haven’t even started first first  wave hasn’t left yet and yeah puncture.

Wave one only one through 199 Riders  number one through 199 wave one. yeah yeah have fun be safe good time Well that was fun. That’s kind of the  cat herding portion of today’s program. All right This is the course where the  guy got hit all right well

Uh this is the way it started. Every story starts like this. Sweet Christ I think that’s it no more gears smells vaguely of cow crap Okay, we’re walking. Cows. Mile 11 So the mud it’s kind of like tar it’s not too  sticky but you just kind of push through it.

Oh tires are really sliding around today oh there’s a hole Dodge the cow crap This is mile 14.6 Crunch those gears Aid station one holy And off I go with piles of new stranger-friends Mile 18.5. Walking up a hill  with all my new friends.

I don’t know if this is coming through  on the GoPro but I can only describe a   lot of these views as Windows Desktop Background but you know with bulls and a  lot of suffering cyclists and the  ever present smell of cow

Hey everybody. I am at 3 hours elapsed  time and in that time I’ve gone 23 miles.  23 and 1/4 miles but you know. Climbed  2480 ft. Been moving for 2 hours and   35 minutes so 25 minutes of that time was  rest stops Hangouts clothing adjustments.

I’m just going that’s like crazy It’s another hike-a-bike. let’s   see this is now this is more  6% it’s probably 20… 20% hill 25.2 walking up a wall Mile 27.1 and I’m hiking. Climbed 3,300 ft  3,300 ft in those 27 miles. My glutes hurt. Oh wow holy

I’m not sure what this is but it  kind of looks like a road. I kind   of don’t really remember what roads  are anymore, but this could be a road?  This is the mud obstacle course  section kind of smells like wet dog. Mile 29.1, basically. Okay I lied. This is the mud section.

Mile 31.4. Once again, we’re walking and  that really sucked. That was back there. I only seem to turn this thing on when I’m hiking,  but honestly it’s either been walking up hills are   doing pretty average flat. Yeah, I’m with  a group of dudes and we’re all suffering.

Aid station number two. Where the hell am I? 36.75  miles. Everyone’s hurting. It sucks. Let’s party.  Rolling out of Aid Station two. Some  of the people I was riding with were   already uh still here but I’ll go slow and  they’re going to catch up with me I’m sure. Nice downhill

The mood is somber.  Everyone wants to be done. I think  this is the last… close to last. Back on Road. 43 miles in, 17 to  go. Are we done with dirt? Maybe.  I lied, there’s more dirt; just kind  of a weird field by a golf course,

Also, I think I ate a bug but not even mad  ’cause I’m so starved for protein right now 47.6 miles had some weird technical  bits some of the longer distance   people are showing back up so they’re  blowing by us I’m ready for a nap.

So there it is the hike a bike of  brutality um yeah they’re just testing us fat white guy in spandex showing up to the country music bar you got five miles  to the bar this one’s not too bad last  year sucked brutality Is this type three fun?

He’s not going to stop until  there’s h a ladder at some point hey guys ride up this ladder bike, step, bike, step, bike, step I can see the Sun, so guess  I’m getting close to the Sun. That was nice. Oh, we’re at the top. Yeah, nothing, no big deal right?

We’ve got about 10 miles left and this is uh this is what most the average stuff  looks like that I haven’t really been filming. I am nine-tenths done with the ride. I just climbed a brutal hill on a state route. There’s a wide bike lane but still kind of sucked.

I’m just hoping so hard  it’s an easy bike path cruise from here on in yeah good job good job good job You need my ID? naw Hi-Jinx About uh 3 miles to go How Ya doin’? Oh you know, hurting. Almost there. Home stretch Oh God my butt hurts, my back hurts, my neck hurts.

Oh this is so nice, a little “hey yeah this was an off-road event, have a little more off road” thank you sir holy Are we in the Netherlands? Where’s the gift? Oww my everything. Good work today.  Thank you sir. You look full of energy.

You like you could do another. Yeah let’s just start it back over. Give me some lights.    We’re at the you came back to the place where it all began you can run it back right now

  1. Good job! It looks like they ran out of beer at the bar, at some point. When I went through, they were handing out cups of Coors Light at the top of the ramp. I did BWR (Wafer route) and Bovine Classic (Feisty route) last year. This Pebble was harder than both.
