Step into a fairytale. A real life one. This is the Romantic Road The Romantic Road through the southern province / state of Bavaria (Bayern) in Germany. A stunning road meandering through the landscape of hills, towns, villages and mountains.

The road goes from the city of Würzburg all the way down to the famous castle Neuschwanstein at the foot of the Alps. Dinkelsbühl This city is called ‘the most beautiful village of Germany”.

It is one of only three town in Germany that still has the old city walls in tact. In fact: all three of those cities are along the Romantic Road near each other. They are: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Nördlingen and Dinkelsbühl. All of these three cities are in this video.

This was filmed during “Pfingsten” / “Pinksteren”, of in English “Pentecost”. People from nearby villages dress up in stunning traditional clothes and go the the annual festival in the old town. Dinkelsbühl is a former Free Imperial City of the Holy Roman Empire.

The main sights of Dinkelsbühl are of course the city wall with its many towers and gates. The so-called Deutsches Hause is the ancestral home of the Counts of Dinkelsbühl. A spectacular example of German renaissance style of wooden architecture.

The town square with the half-timbered houses and the gothic 15th century church. St. George’s Minster is the largest hall church (one build without aisles) in Germany. Rothenburg ob der Tauber

This city might just have the most famous spots in all of Germany. Plönlein: the little square with the yellow plastered half-timbered house, flanked by two city gate towers in the back. Rothenburg is a well-preserved medieval town. And one of the main tourist attractions of the entire Romantic Road.

The city was the inspiration for many artists and movie makers. Both the world of anime and Disney took inspiration from the beautiful streets and squares, houses and towers of Rothenburg.

Rothenburg city itself is the main attraction. Be sure to visit the Christmas museum, city hall and churches too. This is a city to just wander around and be amazed by what you might find. Harburg A large medieval castle over the small village of Harburg.

It is one of the most impressive remaining medieval castles in Germany. Nördlingen The city made out of 72,000 ton of star dust. Made of diamond dust from space. Long ago a meteor hit this area and it made a huge crater of 25 kilometers in diameter.

Neatly in the middle of this circle sits the walled city of Nördlingen. The old walls and houses are made from stone of that meteor. And on inspection, they found tiny specs of diamand dust in it. This city is also the inspiration for Attack on Titan.

The city wall is a near perfect circle. It has towers and gates protecting the city from outside invaders. Even though Nördlingen, Rothenburg and Dinkelsbühl are near each other, they all have a very unique and distinctive character. Neuschwanstein Build for the Fairytale Prince.

This castle is the quintessential model of a castle. High upon a hill, overlooking densely wooded hills and snowy mountains. The Bavaria monarchs lived in the Munich Resident (one of the most extensive palace complexes in the world) and build this castle as a retreat.

Every year more than a million tourists visit this beautiful castle. And it awaits you, like a beautiful white swan, in an elegant calm.
