Hej again! So Denmark and Copenhagen in particular are renowned for their cycling culture. Over 52% use cycling as their first choice of transportation and the figure is rising. I was nervous about riding a bike again but now it has become the norm. There are understood rules and guidelines for cycling, but some ‘unwritten’ ones I have picked up during my time here so far. I hope you enjoy…

Have you any of your own to add?

P.s. sorry about the bad lighting/camera angle etc. I only noticed after I had filmed

This is cool I don’t have any internet so let’s make a video time yeah it’s a real ring to it I have to make a confession I think the last time I rode a bike I was probably about 12 or 13 years old so coming to a country where

You bike all the time I was a bit of a different to me but it would change if you know absolutely anything about copenhagen one of those things or at least the only thing you may know about copenhagen will be the fact that everyone cycles bikes are everywhere and

Over half the population of the city commute by bike I’ve been told I think it’s not necessarily to do with health or it’s just the convenience of it any most every major road and most minor roads of bike lanes so I mean it’s the best way to get around and now it’s the

Way I get around it’s cheaper than public transport what um but I must admit I’ve been now cycling for a few months got that right it improve my fitness but I’ve learned a few things that I didn’t know at first in my introduction two weeks to coming to

Copenhagen they tell you the basics of cycling’s so that includes hand signals and if you don’t know they’re pretty basic you know left to go left right to go right hand up if you’re stopping those are few things that you pick up along the way so there’s another general

Rule that they tell you is don’t cycle in more 20 in a row but it’s going to happen you’ll find yourself to find a bunch of people cycling across the cycle lane which will tend to annoy people so I mean I wouldn’t recommend it but you’ll probably do it at some point they

Recommend you are out on it but it’s not law so most people don’t wear helmets now that’s not me telling you not to wear a helmet but I don’t like I don’t and I probably should but most people don’t yeah then anyway I was hit by

Another bike well as I hit in the side where was the most pain on the side when I impacted the ground a major depression was yeah but something you must remember must must must must must is bike lights I’d lights will be the bane of your life

Like ridiculous so it’s law if you get caught they don’t mess around you will get fine you can’t play the foreigner card my friends have tried it doesn’t work you get a fine regardless so if you leave mon your bike you’ll get in stolen you just look after them but protect

Them like they are your baby or whatever you always find that one time when you’re out and you forgot to take your bike lights then you’ve got to take that risky journey of we’re going to get Paul of an OP not worth it keep them on you

Move them to you so you’ll also encounter some different types of cyclists the aggressive bell ringers lots of fun so they tend to come in two types they tend to come in front of from the people who just want to get past you ring in a few times or the sport cyclist

So the people who are dressed in today all the way head to toe and lycra you know commuting to and from getting the best feeds that they can and they will bring red blue and green once they pass gym they’ll give you the plan you know

You’re in my way and I’m making know that you were my way so it’s almost like putting in the UK if you don’t know the British Way of telling someone that they pissed you off is too tough you can’t say it just to just the way and then

It’s the now they want you in your dreams the other one is the box bikes now I love the box bikes is in there a great idea they to me are like the Land Rovers or Range Rovers of the car world which what I mean is they think they own

The road or own the cycle path and I would encounter this in the day on my cycle to uni and we were out crossing we would we came across the wife crossing into the narrow bike lane I looked at him he looked at me I each of the Rope

Who was gonna who’s gonna reach the bike lane first he came and round straight in names like no questions later he made a point by you own the cycle path was he was bigger than me meeting as much room as he possibly could yeah watch out for the

Rocks likes you end up cycling in all weathers now Copenhagen is a pretty reading lace as mo city don and cycling against the wind of night the most stressful experience ever I mean I’m not the strongest person I feel like I’m exerting all of my energy to cycling the

Cycling and you just feel like you know it going over you feel like it would be quicker getting off walking than it is cycling it’s the wind rain and snow in the winter you’re freezing cold on the outside sweating and dying on the inside these all your layers because you’re

Cycling into the wind and cold and rain and tough stressful experience but you put up with it and something else I didn’t think I’d ever do with recycled drunk and I have never cycle drunk however I know people have and I’ve also never fallen off cycling on not tell you

That you look like a drunk happens when I’m telling my friends from home about my nights out and I’m like so I came back and they find it hilarious because they’re like you cycle on a night out it’s just not done at home this is not done we don’t cycle as much

Back in the UK um and the problem is we don’t have the space for bike lanes which is great because Copenhagen is prepared for it and when they do put a bike lane in they tend to put them with the bus lanes which I can’t see it’s the

Safest thing ever and I’m pretty sure like once a day so we’re gonna get hit by a bus or a car or something it just oh it just doesn’t feel safe but here it does so drunk or not you can feel safe i love cycling now then my bike has become

Like my third arm what used to be my car is now my bike I still yet to have a name for my bike I’ll see you next time ye

    2. you will get a fine if the police stops you drunk biking! i think there is a new rule saying that you can lose youre drivers licens if the police finds that your drunk biking!

    3. The quickest way to die in Denmark is to get between a Dane and his/her bike.
      I couldn't survive without my bike. 🙂

    4. Hi Alex. Thank you for all your videos. I really enjoy them 🙂 Remember to always have plenty of air in your tires. Helps a lot 🙂

    5. Probably a good idea to wear the helmet in Copenhagen, i live down south on Sealand in Naestved …..should also wear the helmet here but in my 38 years i´ve only gotten small accidence as a child fallen from the bike…oh yeah the joys of cycling in all kinds of weather even drunk….but take not if you get stopped by the Police drunk on the bike you get fined

    6. Interesting video. Good tips I'd say of your looking to live in Denmark. I've only been once in my life (summer 2007) and have been dying to go back ever since! Great city and an interesting / useful video! Thanks for the upload
