On this ride, I travelled to Dawlish to view the new sea defence and cycled along the sea wall to Dawlish warren. Along the way, I travelled on some very muddy country lanes and quickly realised I was over dressed for an unseasonable warm day. My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure.

Interesting vid, but one thing really gets my goat are people cycling on the sea wall and putting pedestrians at risk of injury. You are not allowed to cycle along the sea wall for safety reasons, so use your common sense and respect others who use the sea wall as per the rules.
There are some non-statutory no-cycling signs hidden away on the sea wall. Cycling on the sea wall has been a long time contentious issue in Dawlish. Many argue it's dangerous due to the 2m width of some of the path and drop into the sea. Others will state the no-cycling has little to do with safety but is due to a typical anti-cyclist agenda. And will state the sea wall far less dangerous than the numerous 1m wide shared "pavements" next to busy major roads.
The issue has been further complicated by the newly built path going mainly north. That path is 3m wide and has a wall on the sea side. Network Rail originally planned to allow cycling there, but strong lobbying from locals led Network Rail making it pedestrian only. Though there is no actual legislative prohibition in place.
A lot of cyclists either don't see the signage or ignore it. Then there is the 7% who use a pedal cycle as a mobility aid, which includes me.
Was the remaining battery (49%) with a range extender or not?
Don't think I'd ride the sea wall, regardless of legality. We often walk the similar path in Teignmouth (also narrow with no rails of any kind) and TBH you have be wary just walking past some people, hats pulled down over ears, ear pods in, or just engrossed in conversation. They've a tendency to "jump" in surprise at the last moment when you pass them – almost as if they think no-one else is likely to be on the path! On a bike passing on the sea-side you'd have no chance if they suddenly swerve into your path! 😱
Another great ride, loved the view on the coast & sea defences, thankyou so much and stay safe !!!!
Oh happy day! Another video and just in time for lunch. Thanks for making lunch more enjoyable.
I’ve read the other posts about riding the sea wall. I have to wonder if even walking may pose a hazard why they didn’t build a fence or guardrail? I’m sure there’s a good reason.
Have an enjoyable weekend. Keep on riding!
It’s definitely feeling warmer Harv😊👍
