Giant has an excellent range of road bikes which makes it diffult for many to decide which one to get. Which why in todays video we are going to be comparing their three main road bikes the propel,
TCR and Defy and find out which one is best for you. Before get started make sure to hit the subscribe button for more content like this and now without further ado lets get started. Before we dive into the details of each bike, you might have noticed that for each bike there
Are three different series. The Advanced, the Advanced Pro and then the Advanced SL which stands for super light. The main differences are that the SL version uses a much lighter, stiffer and more expensive carbon blend, will only feature best in class components and in some
Cases differ slightly in frame build. Otherwise geometry is exactly the same. The Advanced Pro and Advanced on the other hand feature the exact same frame but the Pro version will feature either the lighter SL fork or fully carbon steerer setup and always a carbon wheelset as opposed
To a mix of carbon fork and aluminium handlebar for example on the advanced model. Now that you have a better upstanding of the different series lets dive into the different models. Starting off with the Giant Defy. This is Giants endurance bike and is built for longs days on
The saddle without compromising performance and speed. It features a more relaxed geometry with the shortest reach and longest stack which will sit you in a more upright position and provide a more comfartable riding position. It also has the longest wheelbase and longest
Chainstays of the three which will provide more stability when riding at faster speeds but will feel slightly less direct and precise in turns. It also then features componentry and qualities that contributes to the overall comfort. For example the defy features giants
Latest defuse saddle and handlebar which together with the dropped seat stays significantly reduce vibrations from the road. The handlebar does however have a higher tensile stiffness in the drops for more efficiency when sprinting and climbing. Then it also features a wider tire
Clearnace in comparison to the others with the ability to fit up to a 38mm tires. This will once again increase comfort especially when running tubeless and will increase the versartility and even allow you to take on mild gravel. Speaking of versatility unlike
The other two bike the Defy does also allow you to mount mudguards. Even though made for long distances the defy is still very efficient and performance orientated especially in comparison to other endurance bikes. It features the same D-shaped headtube as on the Propel and fully
Internal cable routing for improved aerodynamics. And in terms weight, will obviously differ across the different series but for comparison purposes the flagship model in sizes M comes in at 7,11kgs which is incredibly light for an ednurace bike and im not mistaken the lightest on the market
But the heaviest of the three. It also features the revolutionary compact road design which is basically just the downward sloping top tube creating a smaller front and rear triangle for increased stiffness and lighter weight. Making it still very efficient in climbing just not as much as the other two.
Then lastly in terms of price the defy ranges from 2.999 euro all the way up to the flagship model coming in at 11.999 euros. Next up we have the Giant TCR which is labeled as giants all-round race bike and is built to excel
On various terrain. You can basically look at it as the bridge between the Defy and the Propel. It features a racier geometry than the Defy with the longer reach and shorter stack putting you in a more stretched out and aerodynamic position but not to an extent that it’s to aggressive. The
Shorter wheelbase and chainstays will also make the bike feel more nimble and will feel more direct and precise in the handling which if you are a beginner will take some time to get use to
But once you get it it will feel great especially when pinning down hill and in those sharp corners. However all in all the handling is confident. Then with regards to the frameset everything is fine tuned
For the bike to be more efficient and faster overall on the flats and up the hills. Like the defy it also features the compact road design for increased stiffness and improved weight but does
Not have dropped seat stays. It is the lightest of the three coming in at 6.51 kg in size M for the SL model which is insanely good and is a partially due to the integrated seatpost found on the SL model but also the carbon laser-cutting methods and robotic assembly
Implemented by Giant. It is also more aerodynamic than the Defy as it takes learnings from the Propel but adopted in a lighter package. So it has tuncated ellipse shaped tubing, seamless transitions, the disc brake mounts are integrated into the frame and the downtube also completely
Protects traditional water bottles from the wind. It doesnt not have fully integrated cable routing but this does make it more user friendly when it comes to maintenance and customisation. Then in terms of stiffness it is a step up from the defy especially in the bottom bracket area for improved
Efficiency and power transfer when pedalling for more speed. Tire clearance is capped at 32 mm which for a race bike is more than enough especially when you’re looking to run and somewhat wider tire for extra comfort. Price wise the TCR ranges from 3299 euros so a bit higher than the Defy
All the way up to the flagship model at 11.599 euros which is lower than the defy but all in all still really great value for money bike. Then lastly the Giant Propel, which as you might have already guessed is Giants aero bike and
Is built for those looking to pursuit maximum speed on the flats. As the geometry is almost exactly the same to the TCR in terms reach stack, wheelbase etc the handling will be just as sweet, precise, nimble but also stable in those long corners. The difference between the two is fading
Over time but the main difference definitely lies in the tubes shapes and componentry of the Propel. With the help of computational fluid dynamics and extensive wind tunnel testing with a dynamic dummy rider, the deep elliptically truncated profile tubes have been optimised to
Provide excellent aerodynamics even with head on wind coming in at different angles. Which all in all will reduce drag, save watts and make you go faster. Then to further increase aerodynamics the Propel features the contact aero cockpit and aero stem, fully integrated
Cable routing and with the exception of the 38mm deep wheelset on the advanced 2, all models come with a 50mm deep wheelset. These aerodynamic improvements and deep profiles on the frame and wheelset do however lead to a slight weight increase over the TCR as there is more
Material but it is not drastic coming in at 6,68 in size M for the SL. So around 150gram heavier than the TCR. The Propel will also be the least comfortable in the sense that it is somewhat stiffer than the TCR providing better power transfer for sprints
And faster finishes but will be tough on those rougher sections. However at this level it is not a massive difference. It also has a max tire clearance of 30mm which is okay considering it is a race bike however there won’t be much room to improve comfort significantly. Price wise the
Propel like the Defy ranges from 2.999 euros all the way up to the flagship model coming at 11.999 euros. However unlike the TCR and Defy doesn’t have that sweat spot of 3600 euros with the 105 DI2 Groupset.
So the question is which one should you get? Well it is more less straight forward. If youre looking for a bike that prioritises comfort over all out speed and can be ridden for long distances without sacrificing performance then get the Defy. It is a great option and won’t let you
Down in various situations. If you’re looking for a great all-round package that excels in climbing, sprints, longer rides and descents then get the TCR and if you’re just looking for a pure speed machine that will dominate on the flats but still be light enough for climbs then go with the
Propel. If you are very conscious about weight the again get the TCR but the difference is not really that great between the TCR and Propel and for the some of the lower tier models the Defy will feel very similar in weight to the Propel. However all bikes are great value for money compared
To many other brands out there and each provide a wide range of options with the TCR and Defy offering slightly more. And there you go! I hope you enjoyed this video and it helped you in your decision making. If so don’t forget to like and subscribe and until next time, peace!

Tough to beat the TCR for performance and value. In the USA the model with 12 speed 105 Di2 and carbon wheels is US$3,500. Also the easiest to travel with because the non integrated headset/stem.
such a good and informative video🔥
