Biking In Copenhagen – A Brief Look

You may or may not have heard about Copenhagen’s stunning bike culture. In this short clip, I share an added insight into how bikes are used on a day-in and day-out practice here in Denmark. Keep in mind that the footage you’ll see in this video is shot in Denmark in January – not exactly the world’s most comfortable warm weather biking conditions. I hope you enjoy the video and get a kick out of what, especially for me as an American, has been one of the most fascinating aspects of daily life in Copenhagen.

So if you’re from the states you’re probably familiar with that challenge where you go to the shopping center and you park your car and you forget where it is well in copenhagen you have a similar problem but it’s a little different the challenge becomes finding your bike and this is why

Now when you hear about copenhagen one of the things that you hear about fairly regularly is the fact that it’s an amazing biking city there are wonderful bike paths and the locals really have taken biking to heart which is absolutely wonderful but at the same time reading a statistic

On wikipedia or somewhere like that doesn’t really bring it to life it doesn’t really share with you or show you just how incredible the bike culture is here so what i’ve done is i’ve headed down to one of the main streets right by the lakes in the heart of town

And uh the streets a good bit more busy than uh than some of the others but one of the things that’s really neat about it is that they actually have set up a counter here along the street and keep in mind that this is only traffic on one side of the street

Uh and what this counter does is it registers traffic bike traffic so far today so let’s take a peek at it now what you’re seeing is that it’s only 40 in the afternoon it’s not even evening or rush hour proper rush hour yet and there have already almost been 20

000 bicyclists that have passed by here and i believe the number underneath it is for the year so far so given that it’s 11 that’s not half bad you
