The capital of Albania, Tirana, is a must see for those travelling the Balkans.

Alleykat are currently riding bicycles around the world from 2012-2014! For more information check out our website: http://www.cyclingabout.com

Filmed on a compact camera and edited on iPad. 😉

Cycling about cycling about what the tan has been sneezed on by a magical rainbow giant there’s heaps of these crazily colored buildings all the way around this city sometimes we’re completely surrounded by techic col other times we’re suddenly bludgeoned in the face by a wall of purple the colorful buildings

The street lighting and the positive attitude that exists here in postcommunist tyan I’m mostly thankful to a man named Eddie Rama Eddie Rama was a big Lo with a big artistic dream he was an art student it actually made a difference shocking I know he was

Elected mayor in the year 2000 and he and the people of tyana changed this city completely far from the Grim Ray desperation that it was under the Communist era it has been transformed into a beautiful colorful prosperous City there are quite a few bits and pieces monuments and the like dedicated

To Enver poja the former communist leader not surprisingly the people of tyana don’t like this they’re an important part of this city and they’re well worth a visit everybody climbs this place here it’s known as the pyramida the people of Albania are very proud they are proud of their nation and

They’re proud of their history their history in olves lots of stories and one in particular is about scander or scand as he’s known in Albania this is him he was a prince who was apparently kidnapped by the Ottoman Empire taken to Turkey and brainwashed completely only to ReDiscover his roots

Return to Albania and Lead his country to countless victories over the Ottoman Empire until the year of his death around the time of of every election the road seem to magically get better apparently we read the Lonely Planet guide from 2007 and it advised us that the roads were crazy potholes everywhere

Impossible to ride on but we found the complete opposite there’s bik Lanes it’s relatively easy to navigate the traffic if you just keep Going I’m the train Never [Applause] Good you want to Do [Applause] Pretty much all the food here is amazing the markets are vibrant and cheap fast food here is not McDonald’s but instead it’s easy to eat kebabs or borck stuffed with cheese and vegetables ice cream isn’t Italian style gelat but is a delicious fruity froo there are lots of different places to eat

Especially at the restaurants where they make slow cooked meals which are very quickly eaten do try the Albanian style pizza and pasta they’re all made with fresh ingredients and really really hilly right now we’re in GL part of tan that never sleeps when tan was under communist Rule and Hoya had this section

Of the town as completely his own everybody was forbidden to enter without his specific permission but now it’s free for all it’s no longer a secret area it’s the heart of the night life in terana walking the streets here can take days there’s always something to look at or look out

For our experience of Albania is one of delightful character sure the streets have hles in them and there’s monkeys in Pet Shops but despite its reputation for being a little bit dodgy and dangerous Albania loves us and we love Albania
