Hello everyone! Welcome to our channel. In this video, we’ll take you on a virtual tour of Naples. Naples, or Napoli for Italians, is a major port city in the south of Italy in the Campania region. With 4.4 million inhabitants (‘Neapolitans’), it is the third largest city in Italy.

Join us on a captivating walking tour as we wander through the streets and hidden gems of this city. There’s a saying that Rome is the heart of Italy, but Naples is its soul. The most captivating show in Naples is real life itself. There’s no place else in the world quite like it

It’s not as polished as the other touristy italian cities it has rough edges and a gritty atmosphere blended with some of the friendliest people on earth. A short distance from the city of Naples are famous places of interest such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Vesuvius volcano.

South of the city lies the colorful and beautiful coastal strip of the Amalfi Coast and you can easily reach the beautiful islands such as Capri and Ischia. Watch our video about Capri. 😉 Another superstitious belief here in Naples is if you rub the nose of Pulcinella

Who is a very popular figure in neapolitan puppet shows it will bring you good luck so you have to walk by and give his nose a rub. It seems at one point in history everyone wanted a slice of this beautiful crazy city.

The Greeks were the first to arrive and establish the first colonies that created the city of Cumae. As it grew, Cumae was renamed as Neapolis, or “New City”, becoming one of Ancient Greece’s strongest colonies and an important cultural hub.

Even when taken over by the Romans, who used the city as a resort, it retained its Hellenistic culture. Naples was subsequently passed from empire to empire throughout the Middle Ages. After almost two centuries of French rule, it was the turn of the Spanish Empire to take control.

Naples thrived thanks to Spain’s great colonial wealth, becoming the largest city in Europe, with a population of around 300,000 people, and a paradise for Baroque art and architecture. Italy was unified in 1860 the people of Naples voted to join the country, and so the Kingdom of Italy was founded in 1861.

Naples’ entire central district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, complete with cobbled streets, elegant palazzos, and historic churches around every corner. There’s no getting away from this one – Naples sits in the shadow of a humdinger of a volcano, the infamous Mount Vesuvius.

Vesuvius is highly monitored and has been studied intensely due to its eruptive past. At the moment, the volcano is in a period of ‘active rest’, and visitors can today hike the paths of Vesuvius National Park, even walking to the top of the crater if they so desire.

Vesuvius is most famous for its most fatal eruption of 79AD, which today has left us with the preserved Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. When most people hear ‘Naples’, they immediately think ‘Mafia’. This, unfortunately, is a little unfair to Naples as there is a whole lot more to this life-filled city.

Naples is a safe city for tourists to visit. While the Camorra does still operate in the city (as they have done for around 400 years) they have bigger fish to fry than your average tourist. It is more in your line to worry about the more ‘regular’ mishaps that befall tourists

When visiting any busy city – pickpockets and petty theft. The neapolitans are blessed with gifting Italy with perhaps its most beautiful invention – The Pizza 🍕 Pizza. Of course, pizza.🍕 Eat it all and don’t split it. That is your obligation to Naples.

What might initially seem like nothing more than a simple base of dough topped with tomato sauce, cheese and occasionally some other toppings is a cultural art here in Naples. A lot of restaurants around the world claim to make neapolitan pizza but what does that actually mean? 🍕

In 2004 the italian ministry of agriculture defined exactly what constitutes an authentic neapolitan pizza width thickness of base and crust, ingredients and cooking temperature. Another Naples’ legendary pizzas is the Margherita, a true icon in the world of pizza.🍕 The story goes that the reason it’s called a Margherita pizza is because

It’s named after Queen Margarita of Savoy, so she was the wife of King Umberto and shortly after Italy’s unification in 1861 she came to Naples and the chef Raffaeli Esposito was tasked with making her very yummy pizza so he decided to put together basil, mozzarella and tomato,

The city’s passion for its beloved team, Napoli, is palpable in every corner, every chant, and in the sea of azure that floods the streets. This fervour reached a crescendo in early 2023, when Napoli clinched their first Italian Serie A title in 33 years.

Wander through Naples, and you’ll find the streets festooned with football banners and flags. But it’s the reverence for Maradona that truly encapsulates the city’s love affair with football. The Argentine legend, who led Napoli to its previous Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990. What makes Naples so special?

The people, they’re passionate about so many things and we feel like the defining characteristics of this incredible city and the lives of the neapolitans is the football, their love for Maradona, the food, they just enjoy the best natural high quality food

And then how religious they are and how intertwined that is with a superstition and above all else they seem to value family and you just see them everywhere with families all around the streets having so much fun.

We feel like we’ve just soaked up the vibe of the city and there’s an incredible energy that runs through it coming here with an open mind and just ignoring everything that’s been said about Naples
