Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.

The series features a stellar cast led by Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann, who are joined by Raff Law, Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.

Hailing from Apple Studios, “Masters of the Air” is executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Television, and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey co-executive produce alongside Playtone’s Steven Shareshian. In addition to writing, Orloff co-executive produces. Graham Yost also serves as co-executive producer. Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten serve as directors.

    1. For those of us that watched Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and have been waiting for this show for what? 10 years? This is absolutely amazing. While I understand that some people may be a bit hesitant because of the CGI on this show as opposed to the previous two, I guarantee you it’s a lot easier to find hundreds of M1 rifles than it is to find hundreds of airworthy B-17s nowadays.

If Spielberg and Hanks still desire to do more WWII miniseries, I hope we get to see one either from the point of view of other allied nations, or about the 442nd infantry regiment.

    2. I think this intro looks over produced. Not the flight combat imagery, but the multiple lingering shots of Austin Butler draped in sunlight(see 0:14, 0:24, 1:08, 1:49, 2:08). Or Callum Turner hugging a flagpole. It looks schmaltzy, and leads one to believe this series is centered on the star power of Oscar nominee Butler and not the men of the 100th. In comparison to the Band of Brothers intro, which scrolled through many cast members, lingering on multiple unknowns. Which was Band of Brothers strength, as the entire cast was almost entirely unknown, save for David Schwimmer and Ron Livingston. Only 2 episodes in and it seems focused more on the 2 "Bucks" than other members of the 100th.

    3. Miss a Masters of the Sea about Navy (after USAAF, Army and Marines). Why not a tv show about tanks but movies are enough about tanks.

    4. need to make a series about the Pacific fleet battling against the Japanese too. – Especially about the Enterprise, Midway, Taffy 3 and 6. So many harrowing and incredible stories, Also stories that were never really told like the battle of Narvik and whatnot.

    5. My grandfather was a Douglas SBD Dauntless tail gunner. He passed when I was young. So this show gets me in the gut. It inspired me to join the USAF (although I don’t do anything heroic like my grandfather did). Our WWII vets were so brave. God bless them all.

    6. An excellent series that gradually captivates and moves us and that also exalts a generation of anonymous heroes who offered their lives on those planes……the only detail is that one of its protagonists is still "Elvis". …driving a B-17 with his slicked-back hairstyle and light blue scarf around his neck…..great little detail……but anyway…excellent series worth watching
