Flixtrain – Crossing Germany for ONLY 9€

Back when i traveled by plane during a few years, i made 5 flights on low-cost carriers (Ryanair, WizzAir, Vueling)… they were never as horrible as what is shown on this video :s
Low cost train is great idea, but still needs to cate to people's needs. But then of course, is it still possible to have a reliable journey in Germany ????

My english is not good enough to told you, why this cars are running whitout A/C. So i apologize for doing that in my mother tongue german. 😉

Bei den Wagen mit den Flixtrain fährt handelt es sich hauptsächlich um alte Interregio-Wagen der DB, welche in den 70er und 80er Jahren ohne Klimaanlage beschafft wurden. Diese war dafür auch nie vorgesehen, insofern sind diese Wagen auch nie dafür ausgelegt worden.

Das macht einen nachträglichen einbau sehr aufwendig und teuer.
Als die DB ihre IC-1 Flotte das letzte mal redisigned hat, gab es Überlegungen auch diese Wagen mit einer Klimaanlage nachzurüsten. Das wurde jedoch verworfen, da dafür die komplette Elektrik der Wagen hätte getauscht werden müssen, um eine Klimaanlage überhaupt mit ausreichend Strom versorgen zu können.
Hinzu kommt, das der Fahrgastraum hätte (in der Deckenhöhe oder der nutzbaren Fläche) verkleinert werden müssen, um Platz für die Klimaageräte zu schaffen.
Das alles hätte in Summe dazu geführt, das die Wagen deutschlich schwerer geworden wären und somit eine neuzulassung der Bremsanlage durch das Eisenbahnen Bundesamt (die Aufsichtsbehörde der deutschen Eisenbahnen) erforderlich geworden wäre.

Das bedeutet in Summe nichts geringeres, als den wirtschaftlichen Totalschaden für diese Wagen.
Insofern wundert es mich nicht, das auch Flixtrain die Klimaanlage nicht nachgerüstet hat.

Wouldn't hurt to hand out inexpensive earplugs.

Me and my Grandfather took FlixTrain in the Summer of 2022 from Cologne to Berlin, it was overall good, however for us, the Power Sockets didn't work, and on our journey back from Berlin, because there was no A/C, everyone had to get off early at Hannover due to people literally falling over.

I definitely suggest that until they fix the AC, that you buy stuff like water. Also, contrary to what Flixtrain Staff will tell you, their tickets will NOT be compatible with DB Trains.

Wow a non- AC train going at 200 kmph? Doesn't sound like a good idea.

It's quite weird they don't sell drinks on the train. Ryanair is a low-cost operator too, but the food selling on the planes is like part of their business model, they probably make more profit from it than from the flight itself.

Non AC trains should have windows that can be opened. If the dude wanted quitness then he should go for such trains

I'd rather pay more than ride on a train with no A/C.

Love the channel and the trip reports but, sorry, I will never be a fan of low cost operators and subsidiaries. The RyanAir-ization of European passenger rail has not been a net positive. You can have a world class rail network (Switzerland, Japan)…you can have a confusing patchwork of various private and state train operators where "making money" or "saving money" is prioritized over building a cohesive rail network that puts passenger needs and demands first, but you can't have both. The EU is even right now pressuring countries like Austria, which haven't let a million open rail operators fracture their network, to do just that. No, just no.

The only thing I would have liked if I was on that train was the green toilet seat as it showed a touch of fun on the part of Flixtrain.

Europes hatred of AC is so stupid lol like i get it most of you can open a window at home and love the temperature that doesnt mean other places will have the same luck lol

I am concerned about this due to flix's coach bus service here in the states.
