One of the most requested for restaurants to visit on this London trip was Dishoom. A casual Indian restaurant with a ‘gymkhana meets Bombay Irani café’ vibe, this chain has emerged as one of the city’s most popular dining spots. Sree and I decided to pay a visit to their newest branch, set in an old warehouse in King’s Cross.

So we’re of course at the very famous uh dhom which is uh one of London’s most popular I’m told currently uh spots for Indian dining the vibe is very uh jimana meets Irani Cafe good it’s excellent yeah a falari Kofa yes Kaa chicken B BR chicken Berry britania thank you very much thank you thank you some broccoli stem something to balance out that uh Berry Pula so Shri and I have decided to take a break from the many cab Rides here the rule when you’re on the escalator in the tube you have to stand on the right so that people who are in a hurry can move on the Left how this uh dhum house CH yeah is nice it’s one of the best small PL in my opinion okay so we’ll get one dhom house chat uh give us one uh falari Kofa is that good so does that come with bread M so

Give us one of that and uh how’s a how’s a berry britania how’s is that it’s a it’s a rice so is it with a Cranberries the little berries sweet berries okay so we’ll do the chicken uh Biryani Biryani also give us a bowl of uh the greens yes the broccoli and the

Snow peas the Bro GRE yeah yeah so we do the house chart we do the Kofa Biryani and the g perf thank you thank you very much thank you so we’re of course at the very famous uh dhom which is uh one of London’s most popular I’m told currently

Uh spots for Indian dining in a very casual sort of an atmosphere so there are many dish rooms in London and we’ve opted to come to the one in King’s cross and uh this is set in a go down and the moment you enter it just transports you

Back to let’s say an old Irani Cafe of Mumbai of what was Bombay back then so it’s also got some of those U signs which says uh No Stealing no vagrancy no doing this no doing that so the OS synes that you associate with the Rani cafes

The vibe is very uh jimana meets Irani Cafe that’s the sort of vipe that I get here and in terms of the food It’s a combination of there are some grills some kebabs that I see here some U things like basic comfort food like chili cheese stores there’s some bail

Chart there’s also the britania berry Biryani here I’ve ordered that uh We’ve also ordered one falari Kofa for Shri uh and we’ve ordered the dishroom house chart and of course there is also the dishum IPA it’s a warm day here in uh London I’m sure this will be just fine

To cool things down Cheers uh White Cy on the pallet and also the tinge of bitterness that you expect to find in an IPA even the is yeah so actually it’s quite a bit of a treack from where we are and uh we were told that this is an interesting place

In terms of the character of the space so there are places nearby as Well so I think what people probably like here is the casualness of the space I think it’s very un-british like I don’t know if that’s the word to use but that’s the sort of sense that I get here seems very casual uh in its approach and

The sort of place that probably lets you just relax chill out over a beer over some food at least that’s the impression that one gets going by also the people that I see around having a good Time good it’s excellent Yeah M what is this crispy it’s like kachori almost it’s fried sweet potato so unlike typical potato this has starch but there’s also a certain bite to that starch there some Papi therey sweet M got some Tamarind there I can help you feel the heat no the spiciness so it’s basically some uh

Sweet potato that’s been crispy fried and then tossed along with some yogurt some Tamarin the green Chutney and also that chili it’s super yeah especially this dishes house chat and also the chart isn’t cold so it’s like a warm sort of a chart the is very creamy almost like cream Cheese one is beer right so there’s a bit of citrusy in it so it’s very refreshing and works very well with the spices and then a bit of bitterness so it’s like a good you have a sip of this and just kind of it’s like a pallet

Cleanser in a manner of speaking so this I’m told is brw specifically for Dish the dhom IPA the India P the bottle says fresh wiger and an increased Z WRA I guess it raises lifts your Spirits that Berry Pula is like from uh there a place called britania and Bombay very old place so they make this Pula Berry Pula with chicken mutton and then there’s some uh Iranian berries like cranberries almost that get sprinkled on top Kien chicken Berry branas thank you very much thank you thank you thank You some broccoli stem something to balance out that uh Berry Pula that we see here so so we’ve got a chicken Berry Pula we’ve got the Kofa the falari Kofa and some snow peas and uh broccoli Stems how’s it how the Kaa yeah they’re very lightly seasoned there’s some lime I think some lime some chilies some oil the snow bees are nice and sweet with a bit of Ch That’s like a typical M gravy the Kofa is very soft and creamy there’s some paner in there some Potatoes some pomegranate corals as well it’s very creamy and uh filling a at the same time there a touch of Sweetness in that uh mne gravy some seeds in this there a cash nut of course in the gravy that’s a thick gravy I think a vegetarian you quite enjoy

This also some some raisin in that Kofa now for the main act the berry Pula there’s some cranberries on top of this P that I’m told is cooked in the Ki style a true Ki style is where the meat is cooked kacha raw when it’s cooked on

Dum that’s what the menu says but I’m not sure so this is like bits of boneless chicken that I’m seeing in this it’s not like of chicken leg or a chicken breast but it’s pieces of boneless chicken chicken tikka of sorts go with my fingers I’m definitely tasting a lot of the coriander

And this a bit of the Zer as well I was expecting to taste more of the flavors of the aromates that is the art spices but here I’m tasting more of the flavor that comes from Coriander I don’t think the chicken is cooked in the Ki style which is where the chicken is marinated and then placed at the bottom of the pot and then steamed on them with layers of the half cooked rice on top so after all this chicken is a boneless chicken so I think

It’s more a case of the cooking the chicken separately and then layering the rice on top also I find that in this Pula the spice notes dominate there’s also a bit of the red chili heat that I’m tasting somewhere along with the uh coriander and that Zera

And the cranberries give it a bit of that slightly tart sweeted sort of an Edge all the dishes that we tasted thus far I think I enjoyed the dishum chat the most this is fine makes for a tasty marsel but not perhaps the most impressionable at least this particular bowl of Biryani that I’m tasting It’s also nice when you just to people watch when you sit here people playing TI this is like an old uh Industrial Area like an old godown that theyve Converted just finished our lunch at dhum so what do I think about dishum I received many many recommendations actually asking me to go to dishum and I get it because uh it’s a very casual laidback sort of a space so I guess if you’re in London and if you’re

Missing some dacy flavors in an atmosphere that’s very chilled out very laidback I think Dum certainly serves you that in the charts in the small plates I saw some Kima Samosa on the menu I saw some uh kebabs the biryanis ETC so I can understand the reason why

It’s so popular amongst uh people here in London uh for us personally uh you know we thought the chart was great the dishum special chart made with the sweet potatoes I think that was fabulous uh so also the Kofa was also nice although very rich with the paneer with the

Raisins a bit of a sweetish tinch from the mne sauce uh the uh stir fried veggie ref F to the broccoli stems and the snow peas with a little bit of lime some uh chili Etc the Biryani was all right in fact that was the one dish that

I thought um didn’t really live up to the reputation of this restaurant but I think all in all a nice place to come and experience some uh dacy flavors in an atmosphere that’s quite relaxing quite chilled out what I really loved was the vibe of the place it’s a sort of

Uh old Irani Cafe of Bombay meets uh Jim Kanas that’s the sort of vibe that you see all over even in fact even in the L of course I didn’t take the camera to the lose but if you get here do check it out so that was lunch for us here at

Dhum Kings Cross Soho famous for its nightlife restaurants theater I have the fruit and the pancake how’s it a Japanese pancake M so nice

    1. Kripal, you missed the main act! The ruby chicken and the black dal. Perhaps another visit is due. Not surprised the Biriyani didn’t meet expectations, after the variety you get in Karnataka / Kerela.

    2. Kripal, your T-shirt colour is lovely!! It appeared a bit rusty orange inside but outside it looks that lovely red! Good to see you both having a good time there. Have a good rest of your vacation and hope to see your "local videos" soon. 👍👍

    3. I think this is the real review. I never saw u eating so less biryani in any restaurants which u wer invited in India.. probably this how u should plan to visit out restaurants also..

    4. Sir u r referring to rice dish as biryani ,i don't know what's written in menu as but the parsi dish in Britannia Bombay is known as mutton berry pulao it's never a biryani …..n moreover I was surprised that u ordered chicken pulao rather than the original version which is mutton berry pulao ( if mutton was an option that is )

    5. Happy to see that you have given an honest review about Dishoom. Living in London and having visited dishoom I personally feel it is overhyped and I am glad that you didn’t feel pressurised to give a sugar coated review as it is so popular here.

    7. Granary Square that you visited here used to be where the canal barges and railways connecting you to the rest of the country used to be based out of. Good catch – you were in a converted warehouse 🙂 There's a lot of interesting architecture to see in the area and also a lot of spots connecting you with the Harry Potter lore. Also, the BCL (British Council Library) is around the corner 🙂

    8. What's the point in dining Indian cuisines when we go outside? Better to try local cuisines which will be more authentic (although agriculture is limited and they import most things in these countries, still better to check out places where they at least incorporate local vegetables & fruits and the dishes which are own to land… There are vegetarians/vegans in every country…)

    9. Tried Dishoom in Edinburgh. Not a place you go looking for authentic Indian food. Rather experimental and mostly for a foreign palate with a nice atmosphere. Nothing wrong with that.

    10. The next time you are here you must try the Hawksmoor Steak house. More than happy to take you there.
There are some fantastic steak restaurants but this is my absolute favourite. Happy to suggest a few quirky English spots for your vlogs.
      Cheers
