In June of 2020, we were all set to do a bicycle tour of the Loire Valley to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, COVID hit and we had to cancel and reschedule for September of 2021 but COVID had made a strong resurgence and we rescheduled for September of 2022. I broke my collarbone at the beginning of August and we could not bicycle but did enjoy the Alsace and Burgundy regions of France (videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhykU7rY16iGJ1RtJRoOx8vuNIz5HniJs&si=QclXyJTJakpMJ8Mj ). We decided to skip the Loire Valley and try a ride in the bicycling mecca of the Netherlands. Since we had a sizable credit with Discover France we booked our trip through them and their partner Tulip Cycling.

Over five days of riding we went from Bruges Belgium to Leiden Netherlands enjoying the wonderful bicycling infrastructure and scenery of the Netherlands. So many canals, windmills, beautiful towns and countryside. Our fourth day of riding was a shorter day of 28 miles from Brielle to Delft. We took a short ferry ride across Rotterdam Harbor and rode up the Harbor to see the amazing Maeslantkering (“Maeslant barrier” in Dutch). Our ride was through the countryside past many greenhouses and along many canals. Of course, there were cute villages and cities along the way. When we arrived in Delft there was lots of bicycle traffic which made filming and navigating stressful. Again our GPS data did not send us to the right spot and we had to backtrack a quarter of a mile. A highlight of the day was parking our bikes at the Delft train station bicycle parking. Delft is a beautiful city to wander around and we enjoyed a wonderful late lunch and then dinner.

Well good morning we’re here in Brey the Netherlands we’re getting ready for our fourth day of riding here on our tour so we have a shorter day today about 26 miles had a Wet n Wild day yesterday Julie how’d that go for you it was very very tough but it was really nice

Knowing when we finished that we actually made it through because it was very tough there for a while probably didn’t go more than 5 m an hour for an at least an hour all the wind y we had 30 40 m our winds in our face for a

While but then we got them out our back and then it cleared up we had rain so we had it all yesterday so come along with us snow for snow snow so anyway come along with us should be another beautiful day here in the Netherlands yeah we just go down here to the detour to see the Windmill car up so this is the old moat from the city I think it was a double Mo City at one M car oh was it did you smile you see the camera on the top yeah Yeah We’re supposed to catch a ferry here or little shuttle for pedestrians so it looks like it’s right there yeah there’s the uh shuttle I Believe so a nice little uh ferry ride there thing just runs back and forth all day it was pretty easy it was free and it was bigger than it looked in the uh pictures I’d seen online so that was Nice well on the way out of town I finally picked up a uh handle baller holder for my cell phone for navigation that’s been it’s been great Today as you can tell from the video as we’re going towards the Seagate in the reram harbor we were encountering a lot of wind that was in our Face that just rotates into the uh Harbor there to protect it wow that’s a kind of an intering Marvel so [Applause] sure okay well we’re rolling around pretty nicely now we got the wind kind of coming off our back here went up the harbor there to the end see that amazing uh Seagate that got there that closes we are probably about 16 mi into

Our ride I think we only get about 10 more to go and it’s going to be mostly downwind so I think we’re going to go all the way to Del and uh have some lunch then explore what’s supposed to be just an incredibly beautiful city so we’re cycling along all these

Green houses here it looks like they’re uh at least the ones we saw were just uh put little shrubs or whatever bushes Okay it’s a I guess you to walk your bikes up this wow Oh So a while back we saw a sign for tomatoes so I’m I’m assuming they do all sorts of things in Here look at these uh tomato Flags Huh happy to get off the Road so we were noticing it says €3 for them to open the bridge and we’re wondering how they did that and then I noticed over here that you uh go here looks like you go down to this little shop pay your €3 so you have the dog pay

The 3 somebody I guess comes out and opens it up for You so it doesn’t look too unusual the canal but then you realize that uh it’s going over over the Freeway this is a little nuts man you got all sorts of bikes and you got all sorts of cars I guess it all works but for the novice like us it’s a little uh Daunting okay my nerves are pretty shot this is wild in here I mean the bikes are just all over the place and they Throwing Cars and Man after wandering around Del for a while we got to where we were supposed to go according to the GPS information we had but there was no Hotel there just a tattoo parlor well Julie is patiently waiting we got lost uh good thing good news is we’re maybe A4 mile away from

The hotel uh the directions didn’t take us there so we’re going to head over there and uh be done with the trip he next order of business we have to take our bikes to the train station to lock them up for the evening so we’re at the train station

Now we’re trying to figure out where we’re supposed to park so we’re thinking we might go down here we’ll give it a try ah this is it yeah Del uh parking okay wow look at this isn’t this amazing Wow it took us quite a while but we did find two slots right next to each other so we could lock our bikes up together we also took a picture so we could find the bikes in the morning after we took care of our bik bikes at the train

Station it was getting to be about 2:00 we wanted some lunch we were hungry so we went to kubis cooch and had some lunch something to drink and their apple pie that was recommended to us after enjoying a wonderful lunch we went around and explored some of this

Beautiful city of Del this University City with so many college kids in it after getting cleaned up we came back and enjoyed a wonderful meal at HEC conings who where bble to sit outside and enjoy a beautiful night Del was indeed another beautiful city and we enjoyed wandering around it a bit that

Night and enjoying the scenery our ride was just a little over 28 mies after wandering around in Del and we had the adventure of going and parking our bikes at the train station Del was the busiest city for us as far as bicycles we think we got there when it was commute hour

For the students so was a bit hectic but we survived it and we got to where we needed to Go thank you for watching our video like it if you liked it please comment below and subscribe so you can stay current with our adventures
