Geophysicist Stefan Burns here with your space  weather geomagnetic storm and Schuman resonances   update for December 1st 2023 and yeah that  geomagnetic storm you’re expecting it came in   pretty strongly it’s already hit a value of seven  on the Hp30 index this is a measure of geomagnetic  

Volatility and this is classifying what’s been  happening so far as a strong storm we can look at   our solar wind data we see that the interplanetary  magnetic field has drastically gone up in strength   all the way to values of about 30 nanotesla  thus far and the red line which is the Southward  

Facing component has gone sharply negative which  means that the interplanetary magnetic field is   easily connecting to Earth’s magnetic field now  you’ll see that plasma density has gone up quite   a bit this is a log scale so any jump is quite  significant look at the jump in the velocity of  

The solar wind immediate jump and then it had a  second increase all the way to about 550 km/s and   meanwhile temperature has also gone up slightly  during this whole period of time looking at some   measures of Earth’s magnetic field strength the  Dst index has already broken below -100 nanotesla  

Here is November for reference on the six we had  a pretty strong geomagnetic storm you can see the   value into there also on the 25th we can also look  at our aural Index this is a measure of magnetic  

Field strength in the polar regions and you  see these big swings in the magnetic field 500,   1,000 nanotesla it’s also very wide whereas if you  look at yesterday we see that it was quite narrow   and quiet overall so big changes Earth magnetic  field as measured by the auroral index and also  

By the Dst index already and this storm is just  getting started now there’s a couple reasons why I   say this geomagnetic storm is just getting started  the first one is this coronal hole here you see   that this is rotating into Earth direct view  at this moment in time coronal holes are areas  

Of open magnetic field flux they emit high-speed  streams of plasma ions into interplanetary space   this one’s close to the solar equator and it’s  rotating Earth direct at this moment in time so   this high-speed stream is about to buffet the  Earth with even more solar plasma energy now  

This is on top of the two plasma filaments that  were launched and this cannibal CME right there   and this is going to cause that spike in plasma  density all the way up to 60 according to this  

NOAA model if we look at our Schumann resonances  data out of Hungary we see this big increase in   power density in the vertical electric field  from 0o to 45 Hertz and this perfectly lines up   with this geomagnetic storm that we have coming in  right now so this shows how energy injected into  

Earth’s magnetosphere and then the plasmasphere  also eventually reaches the global electric   circuit and changes things like the Schumann  resonances which are biologically relevant we also   have Schumann resonances data out of Tomsk, Russia  we see some spikes here this was yesterday and  

Then we see this big cloud of increased vertical  electric field energy there these horizontal bands   are the Schumann resonances and now we’re starting  to see more activity in the lower frequencies as   this geomagnetic storm begins to really pick up  pace looking at our amplitude data out of Tomsk,  

Russia we see a big spike in the amplitude for  this green line that’s mode 4 for the resonances   at 25 Hertz and that’s connected to changes in  the ionosphere so this really is demonstrating   how energy from geomagnetic storms eventually  reaches the ionosphere the atmosphere and then  

US during space weather and geomagnetic storms  the plasmasphere and the radiation belts have   their ions precipitate down into the ionosphere  we’ll see this drop blue as this shows the ion   precipitation event coming in right there so if  you want to learn how you can stay healthy during
