Are UK & EU E-bikes being limited too much by the law? Will De-restricing help or hinder the EMTB industry? Join Steve Jones as he conducts a series of tests & challenges to see how much difference riding a 32kph EMTB can make compared to the restricted 25kph UK & EU models!

    1. Does there not exist an option in the UK to have, say, a 30 MPH limiter, and then somehow register / insure the bike as a sort of e-moped?🤔 -It's probably not as simple as that but, it's just a thought….🤔

    2. When my 3y.o. e-skateboard has a 36km/h top speed, it seems ludicrous to limit e-bikes. Even electric unicycles are pushing speeds over 90km/h, theres just no excuse anymore

    3. This is why I have a Luna X2. I don't care if it's a mountain bike, I refuse to buy anything that can't go faster than 28mph. Sometimes I gotta ride to the trail and 20mph top speed is TRASH.

    4. i want to get an ebike but being hopeful the limiter is increased so am waiting. the fact that road bikes often ride faster then 30km/h

    5. It's absolutely ridiculous. In the US the limit is 20 mph and you can use a throttle as well. A nation built for cars has better bicycle laws than Europe. Ridiculous.

    6. Yes I live in New Zealand and I commute on an ebike with a 45 km/h or 28 mph. The higher limiter compared to other bikes with a 32 km/h(20 mph) makes a difference in average speed, I cruise along at 41-43 km/h and my average speed is between 32 to 36 km/h.

    7. UK treating adult riders like kids, illegal E-scooters with kids riding them in cycle lanes by me the current speed of E-Bike at the moment will not make me buy one at the silly price they cost as well.
And that's a shame as i'm growing older but i would rather walk than have a 250w slug, with a full driver licence i'll keep polluting the earth till we match the likes of US 20 plus MPH.

    8. What I'm missing is you didn't mention that in the UK/EU the motor is limited to 250w but the US bikes have a 750w motor. This makes a big difference in the amount of torque the motor can produce, which makes a big difference in acceleration and hill climb ability.

    9. I have commuted on my ebike for a year now and the 15mph restriction in the UK is ridiculous. For one I’m always being passed and targeted by non ebike riders. We live in such a nanny state. Where 50cc scooters can’t even keep up with 30mph traffic.

    10. The road bike would be far quicker commuting, I was chasing cars up until I was 60. Also those that need to ride on the road to there local trails, would it be more sensible to ride on eco mode slower to give you more battery power to enjoy the trails longe .

    11. I love this channel ! ❤️
PS I wish lawmakers would simply stay the fuck out of our lives !

Covid has seen the biggest change in the relationship between state and individual. We need to roll back the changes.

    12. I've been riding normal road-bikes for decades here in the UK and definitely wouldn't want to head out with a complete novice not used to faster riding going at 20mph.

    13. Just buy a speedbox, easy to fit , and easy to take out before you take it to the bike , if your worried about the warranty, achieve speeds of over 28mph easily, most motors are very capable of these speeds .

    14. So if the law does suddenly change and i can upgrade my 2022 scott ebike with a 4gen bosch motor to 20mph. Can i do this myself with software or will i have to buy one of the chips on the market ?

    15. The speed limit 100% should be atleast 20mph (~32kmh), but also I can't stand the max watts of 250w! When i look at a bike over 3 grand I'm expecting decently good hardware but the reality is when a bike has such low watts, the other important specs like Volts and Ah also go down. I see bikes at stores all the time that sell for 3-5 grand with maximum specs of 250w, 36v, 13.5Ah. That's simply a horrible deal when someone in the USA can buy something like a Revv1 for 2500$ and get 750w, 52v, 20Ah and a SICK looking ebike.
The more restrictive the laws, the more discouraged people are to make the better decision of converting to ebikes instead of driving a unnecessary car.
