EPISODE #121
Prime bike components have sent me some exciting new goodies to test out, so that’s exactly what I do… I wanted to see just how much faster I could make myself, purely powered by money. Can you in fact buy speed, or is there no replacement for good old fashioned wheel power.
I do a side by side comparison between my regular setup with Primer primavera 56 deep wheels and then I change those out for a beautiful disc wheel from prime and a 85mm deep primavera wheel up front. I also add on some TT bar just to finish off the look.
The results are interesting to say the least… whats your bets on?
Massive thank you to Prime for all their support. If you want some incredible quality and well priced bike components, then check them out!

Oh look at this baby I think this is going to make us go a bit faster make sure I charge my garment make sure I’ve charged my lights make sure we get those bars in 10 miles and I’ll be more than starving nothing compared to the thrill under prepared

For the hills I used to get wheels on air now I put air in my wheels change that tune train and cruise chains been L pace and move stra stats give man a heart attack but then my Pace improves bars and Cadence are strong now my legs

Up my Cadence are long it’s about time we do the sister Cy Tourist what is up guys if you’re new here then welcome to the channel and if you’re regular then welcome back it is a beautiful day here in Essex and it’s probably the last one we’re going to get so I figured let’s get out on the bike

And have some fun my friends over at Prime components have sent me some products so let’s get out and give him a test ride Oh so as I said Prime components have sent me some products and as the title of this video may suggest I’m going to see if they make me any faster now my day-to-day setup is not a slow one by any means especially for these flat rows

Here in Essex but one thing us as cyclists love to do is spend money on trying to go just that little bit faster now this is my Tre IMA sl7 supplied to me by team cycles and as I said this this is definitely not a slow bike now

On a day-to-day basis I am rocking the prime Prima 56 wheels and I’ve coupled that with the prim Vera Arrow handlebars now this is definitely a fast setup already but let’s just see just quite how fast it really is now here’s the deal I am on our local TT course and I’m

Going to use part of this to do some timed runs now the first run that I’m going to do is on the day-to-day setup I’m going to set a baseline time for this 5ish mile section of the course and then once I’m back it’s time for the fun part it’s upgrade [Applause] Time All Right that’s run number one done and that was a bit harder than I thought it was going to be to be honest I thought I had picked a nice repeatable pace of 260 Watts but it seems uh I’m not having a good day today now the course out and

Back ended up being just over five miles which I managed to do in 13 minutes 29 seconds and I averaged 23.9 mph so pretty good going but now it’s time for what we’ve all been waiting for let’s see what’s in the box oh look at this

Baby I think this is going to make this got a bit faster do you think professionals usually keep their stuff in Morrison carry [Applause] them [Applause] right so there you have it in all its Glory look at that that looks fast just standing still so the upgrades we’ve gone for are first of all the this absolutely beautiful disc wheel and then I’ve coupled that with the Prima 85 mil deep wheel at the front and these wheels

Have absolutely transformed my bike into what what is now pretty much a TT machine now talking of TTS I couldn’t just leave it at the wheels could I I’ve got these lovely Prime clip on TT bars as well these are going to really enable me to get into that aerodynamic position

And that is what is going to make me go hopefully a lot faster now other than these upgrades everything else will remain the same I’m running the same tires set at the same pressures and all of the upgrades that I’ve done they come in at a price of £

1,230 now in the grand scheme of things and what bikes are priced at these days that actually isn’t really a lot so let’s see just how much speed money can buy A aome Run number two done and uh some pretty interesting results so here we go run number on the screen now as I said before I averaged 260 watts and that gave me a time of 13 minutes 29 seconds averaging 23.9 mph and then on the exact same course with these beautiful TT

Upgrades from Prime I managed to hold the same power 260 wats and that gave me a new time of 12 minutes 36 seconds averaging 25.6 M hour I don’t know about you guys but that has blown my mind just from spending a little bit of money on some upgrades it

Turns out you really can buy speed now I know that may be obvious to some but I just wasn’t quite expecting there to be such a big difference we’re talking 1.7 m hour extra speed gained from no extra power so there you go it turns out you

Don’t have to train hard and uh try and make yourself stronger on the bike you just need to get yourself some upgrades and you began a lot faster I just want to end this video by saying a massive thank you to Prime components for supplying these products and for the

Ongo support I hope you guys have enjoyed this episode thanks very much for watching please like comment and subscribe and I’ll see you guys next Time

    1. Thomas, no need to be defensive with your replies to people's comments. Your videos are interesting, insightful and inspirational . Keep up the great work 😊

    2. Bit disappointed with video, would have been more interesting to stagger the modifications on the run. Main issue popping the aero bars on, from my experience due to the fundamental difference in body position it makes this an unfair comparison.
