I had some problems with reloads at my last trip to the range, we live we learn!

Okay good day everybody Mike here got a bit of a range report from last weekend’s uh range trip I’ll make it quick here I brought out four long guns to test out and do some chronograph video stuff like that and no injuries no damage kind of some funny results and

Some other not really funny but I’ll just go through them real quickly here for you I did bring my pelet gun to the range so I could chronograph it I’ve told SST that I was going to chronograph it it’s a Benjamin multi- pump and I’m supposed to be doing

A challenge video with it but I kind of wanted to do the chronograph and darn it all if I didn’t have uh a way to get the trigger lock off uh I use combination locks on all my guns except uh the pet gun for some

Reason had a screw type lock on it and I didn’t have a key with me so it’ll have to wait till next range trip okay and then uh get my notes Here out of the way this was my brass pickings and the best part about this is that I was the third brass

Picker on the Range that day so I’m pretty happy with this um you know I got some 223 which for me is always good cuz I have a 223 and I like shooting it I’ll probably never have to spend a dollar on 223 brass and then uh got a bag small bag of

308 and then um I got a mixture I got a few pistol round or CA cartridge cases that I picked up just cuz I was bent over already but I got I think 5 3030’s and five ivi which is kind of the Canadian U version of Lake City

223 probably the cops uh shooting it anyway uh 3030 and uh there’s 1 30 odd 6 in there so those are all good I use them too the best part is though man I got over 30 243 brass and that’s what I was shooting that day so I mean man I’m styling when

It comes to Brass I’m super happy with that that’s probably $40 worth of brass alone anyway okay let’s run through some of these uh things okay the ones I had really good luck with was the Lee Enfield in 303 as you know I’ve been working on subsonic small game

Loads and these were the 53 grain Buckshot and they went really well I think I got them down to about 1150 ft per second so a minor adjustment and I’ll have a load for probably four or five different powders on them the 71 grain full Copper plated pistol bullets size

311 uh I managed to get them going 1,000 ft per second and they were pretty accurate last time I shot them so they’re in the running as well and uh then we’ve got four bags here four different powders I think of the uh 104 grain soft cast lead powdercoated size 314 got Bullseye

Um Red Dot 700x and Trail Boss which uh I got down to uh 1,000 ft per second so we’ll be doing some accuracy testing minute a pop can with open sights next time I’m at the range probably two trips from now because next time I go to the range

I’ll be testing my 223 and my 30 odd 6 now some funny results I had H my 38 dies are just nothing but trouble whenever I try and load 38 special with 38 short Colt dyes I can’t get them to chamber so I kind of did a little bit of a mishmash there

And I cut these down anyway and got them all prepped ready this is just for fun to shoot out of my uh 357 Magnum adapter out of my shotgun and uh I think I I actually wrote right here that I used the 9 m mm so I could tap or crimp

Them anyway uh one grain of Red Dot Bullseye 700x um yeah three of them one grain gives you about 250 ft per second which is way slower than I kind of want my goal is 975 so it’s proving to be quite difficult with this little adapter but we’re still having fun

Anyway and then 1.5 grain charges of the same powders gives you about 350 ft per second so get them out of the way 303 we did the brass we did okay the 243 is where I had kind of trouble um okay I had uh three bags of 104 grain 22 or

243 and this was an attempt at trying to get subsonic guys there’s no load data for a lot of the stuff I’m playing with here so you got to you know I’m I’m experimenting all the way on learning about what kind of velocities I’m getting with what bullet weights and and

I’m having good luck but so we got 7 7.5 8 and 8.5 grains of Trail Boss and it looks like I was getting anywhere from 12200 ft per second to as high as 1350 ft per second no feeding problems or anything just all fired real well nice well I shouldn’t

Say that actually I had one one round oh sorry okay those ones yeah they all went all right they all went well now the uh same bullet I just took a hacksaw I took a 22 like I put the bullet it’s hard to describe but uh these are the

Bullets I put the base of the bullet in the vice and I used a 22 czer to hold the nose while I hack sought it off and then I filed it flat so I got uh 75 grain bullets and I wasn’t shooting these to try and get subsonic I was just

Shooting these for fun to see what would happen and I managed to get velocities ranging from 1720 all the way up to 2050 so I’m pretty happy with them although I won’t be doing much experimenting with them because it’s a lot of work to hand cut

Bullets okay and then the uh same thing I took the same bullet and I cut it off at the second grease Groove and I got 60 grain bullets out of them and uh these all went real well and the velocities were anywhere from 1930 up to 2300 and I did actually have

One fail to fire you can probably see there I hope you can see it’s got a a really good you know solid firing pin strike and I can’t really hear the powder in there but um I’m just going to have to pull that and see what happens hopefully it’s just a bad primer

Um well it must be a bad primer to be honest because if if it was a good primer even with no Powder it would have sent the bullet into the bore at least and that didn’t happen so put that back in the bag okay now this is where I had some real

Trouble I have this whole bag which is my preferred load that I’m testing of uh 243 loaded with Buckshot pellets that have been forced through a number of different sizers and then powder coated and uh let me [Applause] pull it’s going to be really hard to see

I think but right on the edge of the bullet on the uh corn on the like where my fingernail is the oi seemed to be hitting I just couldn’t get him to chamber I tried two in a row and the same thing happened the bolt got stuck

So solid I had to uh basically use a screwdriver handle the hammer the bolt back and finally get the round out of the chamber so unfortunately I’m going to have to pull all these bullets and reat them seat them just a little deeper now I went back and I was looking

Looking at my dummy rounds and I had no trouble with the regular loads and sorry if this is draging on guys but this is how it goes I guess this is the bullet the pellet that I made by forcing The Buckshot through the sizers probably about five different sizers to ultimately get

This and loaded this into the cave case you know just just above the case neck Junction and I I’ll be I be honest I did it I think by sight I don’t think I actually you know measured it it’s just so close I mean it’s just like literally

Thousands of an inch and the problem is I can’t can’t just reat these a little bit deeper because I put a quite a heavy crimp on them because I have had bullets that uh did get pushed back into the case through cycling of the bolt action

So I’m going to have to pull these all re uh siiz the case and then load them just a little bit deeper and then I’ll pull the firing pin out of my rifle and I’ll actually chamber check them before I go to the range next time so that’s

Uh my range report let me see if I got everything the 243 38 Colt 303 yeah that’s it guys anyway have a great day mik out
