The topic of green energy is well know and plenty discussed, but what is generally ignored is the criticality of elements associated with the entire topic, human consumerism and the physical impossibility of achieving western standards across the globe. I wanted to shed a bit of light to this huge topic and discuss some “misconceptions and ideas”.

Script + sources are available on my discord channel.

Beat unas traditional Media or documentaries it’s common sense that we have a global problem and it’s common sense that apparently we also have a solution for it green energy is the name it’s a wonder against global warming and apparently all we have to do is just to

Invest a little bit more into these Technologies and all of our problems are solved that’s why the green energy topic becomes a dream energy topic I’m not going to bore you with what type of GRE energy possibilities we have and how bad global warming is there is enough about

That type of content already I’m here to talk about the topics that people generally don’t talk about and seem to entirely ignore or forget the technical problem of green energy and The Human Side of Green energy but first things first we have to clarify one thing in particular we have irreversible damage

Done on the entire planet as the human species I’m not talking about nuking some islands and species out here and there I’m talking about 41% of all insect species declining in the past decades and this study does not involve most of AF Africa most of Asia and most

Of Latin America and this article is 4 years old we already extinct about 900 animal and plant species they’re forever and completely gone we could also talk about how global warming affects the weather and sea level but I assume that’s common knowledge at this point so

Even if we stop all emissions at this very moment the Earth still requires tens of thousands of years to get stuff back to how they were so a discussion about this topic should never start with what can we do to stop our limit global warming but with how much damage can be

Stopped from this point onwards the damage is done and the damage is staying there’s also very region specific problems more or less each country is facing but I will not cover that here so that out of the way we have to talk about the technical issues of global

Warming it’s nice and fancy that we could potentially cluster enough square meter with let’s say solar panels and at least massively hamper global warming right well not exactly funny thing is we’re running out of sand despite growing desert to explain it in a short and understandable way sand can have

Different sizes and properties and the good sand that people need to produce various products including concrete glass and very specific stuff like solar panels are used faster than they are reproduced we also have to consider the fact that these green Energy Technologies require maintenance and if

The car to drive the solar panels or if the parts required to replace it potential damage is not quote unquote green you’re just adding emissions no one talks about and it’s not just sand that we’re running low off it’s pretty much all significant elements we’re reaching critical values with stuff like

Copper silver gold forare Earth elements it’s not a problem we’re facing in The Next Century either this is a problem we’re facing in the next decades in some cases even within this decade and it’s not like that we can just replace them with things that are more abundant certain Technologies require the input

Of various other elements your car engine for instance is not solid iron there are dozens of necessary elements in it so some might say okay if we can’t get enough solar panels we put wind energy there also a different type of solar panels sure but you face the same

Problem there since the magnets required to operate these V turbines need Rare Earth elements and even if we assume that we find entirely new deposits deep down in Earth it does not change the fact that we will still end up in the exact same situation of running low on

Elements or entirely out of them it will eventually happen again and we are using them at a very rapid Pace at an increasingly rapid Pace additionally where Earth elements are harvested in environmentally damaging ways this topic does include lithium iron batteries which are frequently used in electric

Cars and shown as emission free class they aren’t for starts there are very few countries that have significant lithium deposits and lithium is usually earned through environmentally damaging processes so you just dump your environmental damage on other parts of the world and claim to have done something good the second problem these

Batteries face is their lifetime usually a lithium iron battery in a car has a life cycle of about 10 years and this is under the assumption that it doesn’t start to catch fire out of the blue like it did with many Tesla cars so your consumption of vital elements is rather

High and I didn’t even talk about all the other Hightech that requires critical elements I should mention here that even though I’m talking about lithium ion batteries it doesn’t mean they only consist of lithium they have a lot of other critical elements in them lithium ion batteries do however have a

Huge benefit they can be recycled but lithium ion battery recycling is a rather complicated method now of course this is still better than pumping CO2 emissions but the problem of criticality remains in case of lithium not so much but it does for other elements of course you could

Argue that if lithium Runs Out in 10,000 years it’s far better and gives us much more time to explore the Galaxy if we ever achieve that but my point is that the criticality of elements does not get the attention it deserves just because a specific country has a specific standard

It does not mean that everyone should have the same standard for instance everyone on the planet having an American Standard is physically impossible everyone having a German or a Dutch standard is physically impossible we do not have the resources on Earth to achieve that for instance if everyone

Were to reach American Standards in their life and with their consumption we would need 4.1 more Earths in order to cover the material and energy needs in case of Germany it’s two mors in case of china we would need 1.4 for more Earths so even living standards like in China

Are physically impossible to reach for every single human or even most human and All Humans strive to achieve Western standards lastly I would like to briefly mention regulations it’s all nice and fancy that we have them but they are utterly pointless when environmentally damaging manufacturing processes are brought to outside your country or

Environmentally damaging trash is just given to other countries in short for we don’t have the amount of resources to establish Chinese standards across the globe green energy is not green unless the entire manufacturing process maintenance and transport of the green energy to their designated locations are entirely made out of green energy or

Recyclable materials we are already running low on critical elements green regulations are utterly pointless when environmentally damaging manufacturing or trash just moves out of the country now some might argue sure we’re running low on elements but we’re finding new deficits all the time we might start an

Age of exploration or space mining soon and even though global warming can’t be stopped Nations across the globe are increasingly becoming more quote unquote green with green energy Investments and electric cars sure however we can’t talk on the basis of things that didn’t happen only on the basis of what we have

Right now and right now we don’t have space mining or exploration and it’s not going to happen anytime soon so on the basis of the current world and the current resources and the current consumption I would say we’re pretty much effed now some might say sure our

Consumption might be high but you know we’re making stuff much much more efficient LEDs are by magnitudes more efficient than they used to be 20 to 30 years ago right so we’re massively reducing our energy consumptions right well not really as things get more efficient we have the tendency

To use more of the things that get efficient despite marvelous engineering processes Germany’s energy consumption change by pretty much nothing and their population is more or less stagnant just let that s in for a moment and think what exactly this means again despite massively reducing the energy consumption of let’s say lights we’re

Still using the same amount of energy in Germany but what exactly is the problem then what do you suggest you make it sound like this is a hopeless intervention well this brings me to the second issue I have mentioned at the beginning of the video Human Side of

Green energy we’re past the point where global warming is a government issue we’re at a point where global warming is an individual human problem as mentioned even achieving Chinese standards across the globe are physically impossible so the dream of living life like in the western world is nothing more than just

A dream we have to think about what we can do without massively reducing our standards it’s not help to anyone if you buy an electric car that consumes more energy than an entire apart within a month it’s pointless to protest for green energy when you go to each four

Big MCS right after it’s pointless to sign regulations when you allow them to Happ them outside your country you’re just concentrating the problem outside your country which is why lots of manufacturing companies move out of the Western countries what we need is a cultural revolution of the human species

We have to ask ourselves do I really need a big car do I really need to drive my car if public transport is available and viable maybe we should ban Jeeps it wouldn’t really decrease our standard and reduce our energy and material consumption massively maybe it’s time we

Move back to small cars maybe we should standardize cars in their size and energy consumption maybe we should turn the lights off more often or turn electricity down entirely maybe we don’t need a new phone every year or every other year maybe we should put a hardware regulation limiting the amount

Of tech that can be in smartphones so there is no endless race to having more and more tag and resources in your phone maybe 8GB Ram is more than enough for all phones and maybe more than that should be banned maybe we don’t need extra LED lights for our gaming setups

Maybe we should limit the amount of colors that can be used on packaging maybe we should force companies to label how much emission and energy it costs to produce their product maybe it should be Quantified and label in a color scheme so your average person knows instantly

Whether the product is damaging to the environment or not maybe we should consume less meat maybe we should prefer chicken meat over cow meat maybe we should entirely stop producing wine and other alcoholic drinks that consume a lot of water in their production maybe we can all start eating healthier and

Less the consumer mindset the idea of wanting more and better products instantly to party hard to eat what you want even Extreme Fitness where people are deliberately eating an insane amount of meat is not necessarily good for our species and planet we could cut on all of them without reducing our standard of

Living by a scent and all of it would massively help with global problems it would reduce the water stress level it would reduce Ed the emissions it would reduce our resource consumption maybe we should start shaming people who are flaunting their wealth and poisoning the minds of the young maybe we should

Socialize more and depend Less on electronics unless we start an age of space exploration you either contribute to the destruction of the human species and the world or you start thinking about what you can do in your personal life without reducing your standard and this is very important you have to be

Absolutely honest with yourself I’m no friend of arguing that we should cut on everything the least are willing to take that step but I’m AF friend of arguing that we can at least reduce some stuff in our life to contribute a bit to the greater good of our species and the only

Planet we have it might even be the first and the last planet we will ever have

    1. To clearifie:

      1. When I say that we are going to face "issues" with some elements within this decade, you have to keep in mind that new deposites are found here and there and that global production for various elements can differ due to all kinds of reasons. Additionally "issues" do not mean that we will not have that element anymore, but that the supply is going to decrease. This may result in higher prices or supply delays. Kinda similar to the PS5 supply issues, even though this particular event was in no relation to the criticality of elements, but more of human nature.

      2. I dont have a particular issue with people being rich, but how you spend your money is a different topic. Buying excessive cars or huge mansions are really not necessary and just detrimental. I just cant imagen people to clean up their mansion regularly and I dont think an expensive car adds any kind of value to anyone's life. I dont see a particular issue with people buying consoles or expensive electronics in general or go regularly outside the country for vaccation, but we can still do something in order to balance our lavish life we have (on average in the west or in richer circles in less developed countries) and what is good for the world. If you travel a lot, dont use a private jet and if you like electronics a lot, try to keep them off, when you dont use them or try to use them less. I think that is a fair deal and much more helpful than to expect radical changes. However I do not believe that it is enough.
