In the region around the Swiss capital, Bern, we visited Gstaad and Emmental, uncovering a wonderland of quiet country lanes, dense forests, alpine ascents, and cheese. Lots and lots of cheese.

  1. Unfortunately, most roads in Switzerland are very busy. Especially in the mountains there are only a few roads between the valleys where cars, trucks and on weekends motorcycles crowd.
In addition, Swiss drivers hate racing cyclists and like to show this. This is different in Italy and also in France, where road cycling is the national sport. That's why, as a Swiss citizen, I like to go to neighbouring countries.
