Welcome to the gcn tech show this week we will be discussing what impact AI is having and will have on cycling yeah Alex is away at the moment at the tour down under in Australia uh getting his hands on all of the 2024 World Tour bikes so make sure you stay tuned for

That but instead we’ve got the next best thing Sai who’s here this week and next upgrade and we’ve got new kit we do indeed check it out don’t breathe in Ollie cuz this has been freshly Christen it’s slightly moist from A’s whff ride but there you go it is quite smelly it’s

Really it’s really it’s really damp Shimano has a patent for AI controlled suspension which is pretty interesting um if you want to find out more about that there’s a full story over on the gcn website but it’s got us thinking about ways in which AI could improve or ruin cycling well start off

For 10 Ole it could definitely improve cycling infrastructure terrible bike paths I mean to be fair anyone with half a brain cell I feel might actually be able to improve a lot of bike infrastructure but if AI got his hands on it woo be amazing wouldn’t it cycling

Utopia oh totally agree on that some absolutely terrible bike paths out there comedically bad ones um but many of us already use AI as well I think without really I izing it with in our cycling lives like uh root planning you know if you use like the root planning tools on

Like straa it will suggest roads to you and Roads that it thinks are good cycling roads and I’ve used that lot in loads of different countries and actually discovered amazing cycling roads that I wouldn’t have ordinarily have gone on otherwise well surely that’s not AI That’s just a computer

Program that someone’s written in it ah I’m glad you I’m glad you said that because this is a thing that like I’ve been nerding out over AI for a few years okay and yeah right and um one of the things is that in people’s imagination I

Think when AI when they say AI they imagine like Terminator yeah the Terminator or they imagine the little kid in the Robin Williams film who sees dead people but he’s an AI the different film and they think it’s like a a robot that can pass a touring test and is

Sentient and can pass off as human right no what what happens now is people basically are just using things like statistical models and algorithms but that doesn’t sound very sexy so they call it AI when did this Rebrand happen and why did no one tell Meo it was

Literally just like marketing isn’t it people just think oh how can we make our our our you know statistical model sound exciting and sexy call it AI okay well when you put it like that there’s an awful lot of AI already in cycling it procycling they use it a lot apparently

Yumbo or fsmo Lisa bikers they are now have ai tools to help calculate how much food their riders need to eat inos have got TT optimization tool AKA Dan bigam you’re calling Dan bigam a tool no I’m calling an AI like the Terminator um but then and then also

Like Money Ball a lot of teams use something similar to select their riders for races it’s it’s really interesting I think like the TT optimization thing is really interesting to me because I love time trialing um and it’s sort of something that I’ve rudiment done with

Time trials i’ I do with regards to like calculating pacing strategies and how to you know where the course is going to be slow and stuff like that using well AI tools like my wind sock or this best bike split there’s other ones out there the person that created my wind sock

Like 10 years ago whatever is like laughing in his boots now he check it out I created AI 10 years ago I just thought it was a little algorithm it’s just a statistical model again but the but I think that you could make these things far more sophisticated than what those

Tools are so you know for example with regards to pacing we know that it’s optimal to go harder where the course is slowest that’s yeah but how hard do you go and if AI was able to analyze all of your training data and riding data it could build up a

Physiological picture of you that would be able to tailor that specifically to an individual and go on this 4minute hill we know that you can ride this exact power output that already exists do it that’s what pro teams are already using yeah but that’s like that yeah that’s what I’m saying that’s really

Interesting it’s not something that the majority of you know as amateur are sort of doing now I’m no TTI but isn’t that what best bike split does it does but it’s not doing the thing where it’s accurately analyzing your your all your training data you know all of your

Physiological data and actually being able to cut out the noise so a lot of them struggle because you a lot of the time you’re not going as hard as you can so it needs to be able to isolate what you can actually do for say 3 minutes

And then how long it takes you to recover after 3 minutes so you know if it could work out that Optimum thing that would be incredibly valuable so D though I mean I’m not a massive fan of time trials but like literally sat there again like oh now I’ve got to ride at

424 watts and now I’ve got to ride at like you might as well just sit on the start line and play top trumps with your power output well I I I sort yeah I agree I think like what’s your best one minute yes I’ll take that what’s your 20

Minute I’ll take that like if you’re trying to solve a problem of how to get a particular athlete from point A to point B in the most efficient way physiologically possible to make them as fast as possible yeah you you’re doing that but maybe you’re taking something

Away from the sport which is the art of pacing which is something that you have to learn and like I say not everyone’s the biggest fan of time trialing I appreciate that but I kind of yeah maybe the pacing thing is part of the entertainment it makes the sport more

Unpredictable if someone gets their pacing strategy wrong or you know it’s quite quite good isn’t it when you see someone who’s in the lead and then in the last five minutes of the time trial they horrifically blow up because they paced it wrong kind of makes it more

Interesting yeah blame the AI well it was my fault I just did what I was told you know what I think would be really interesting like time tring is a is a very controlled environment but how much these kind of tools are already impacting on road racing Which is far

More unpredictable but you’d think wouldn’t you that you know the you know the course in advance you know the weather condition in advance theoretically you know exactly what your Riders are capable of yeah you know a DS would use their like innate knowledge of racing to dictate tactics but actually

Potentially you could have a tool that would be far more accurate and say okay well actually this isn’t a day for for w van art this is a day for Kristoff leaport because his data shows that he can do x y and Zed and maybe you could

Save W van art and then you deploy him the next day where he can take the yellow Jersey or whatever yeah I mean it’s probably already there isn’t it but yeah I mean there probably are things that are doing something like that but yeah those tools are just likely to

Improve and get more more powerful I think you know if you if you’re like a DS as well like at the moment say you’re in a you know there’s a continental team and well no say you’re like a DS right and you’re your riders in the break of a

Stage of the Jiro dalala and there’s a couple of Cony riders in there that you who were maybe young and new and you don’t really know much about them but you could just put your AI tool um and it would analyze all of their results that they’ve done in races and then it

Could give youly spit out some information going this guy’s got a good Sprint he statistically wins SE he’s done this this this and this and give you a load of valuable information about how to potentially tactically play that break you know is it better to go up against

That guy in a Sprint or is it better to attack him early or like where to attack him on a hill is he not you know that kind of stuff would be really useful I Reon it’s story there I mean there’s that is fundamentally the reason I think

Why teams are so protective of riders data and no one puts out power data because you could use that and be like well you know we know that Matty vandero can do X but so you know all you got to do is push him a little bit further and

We know that he can’t do it cuz the teams themselves know that yeah before the tour to France last year I was uh I was on the ground and they were talking about the climb on stage one and I remember someone saying in order for Vanderpool to win this stage he will

Have to do his PB power output at his lowest weight ever so they knew that he couldn’t do it unless he was on his absolute best of the best of the best it’s really interesting it is really interesting also like going back to the that your money ball analogy um which is

A cool film if you’ve not seen it um about baseball and using statistical methods to um optimize baseball teams for the lowest cost it might give cycling teams surprises so normally in the past they’ve gone on the training camps and the coaches prod the Riders and they get

Them to do like a 20 minute you know uh effort and they maybe getting to do some Sprints and look at the peak power but there’s a lot of different durations of power output in between that where a rider could be really really strong and beyond that as well and having AI tools

That could analyze all of the training data all of the racing data that Riders do it might throw up some surprises to them there might be a rider that’s not particularly in the Limelight in a team who happens to have like an incredible Niche skill of like I don’t

Know maybe they just happen to be the best at 3 minutes or something and so then it could then throw out ideas and go well if you attack at this point on this climb with that Rider they’ll win the race yeah well it comes down down to other parameters is it like resistance

To fatigue which is a big one and so you’ve got riders that maybe don’t have the best 3 minute power but they do have the best three minute power after 5 hours of riding at 300 watts or whatever which is you know someone like Andrew feather has a world class 3 minute power

To weight ratio but he’s a lawyer and is 37 years old so he doesn’t have the resistance to fatigue that you might get as a pro so he couldn’t compete in a pro race and also that’s where the food thing comes in as well isn’t it because

How much a rider is able to eat like so many riders in years past wouldn’t have performed as well as they could have done because teams would have restricted calories or they would the Riders would have restricted calories because it’s all about weight loss and stuff whereas now you’re getting Riders

Performing where because they’re able to basically fuel correctly yeah and well that brings us on to yumbo AI or statistical model yeah for uh for well for food intake basically for their Riders yeah I heard that it wasn’t just about calculating their energy expenditure but there’s also a meal

Planner so when they upload their data at the end of a stage they have an app on their phone and they have to select in advance what they eat when they get there really yeah apparently that’s why not many yumbo riders or Vima Lisa B Riders smile yeah because it’s like

Brown rice uh boiled chicken uh salad so well yeah I mean a bit more information on this particular system is that it in the past what they did was the coaches would look at all of the um information they had so they would take individual Riders they would look at

Their role within the team on a particular stage so if it’s was a Mountain Stage they would say this Rider is going to ride at roughly this power output today on that climb and then they’re going to do this and then they’re going to do that and based on

Their height and their weight and what we know the sort of power they can do in training we predict they’re going to use this many calories and require this much carbohydrate and this much protein and then they would you know weigh out all that food and distribute that food or

Whatever to the Riders to try and help manage their weight what they then found was this wasn’t very accurate and so they’re they’ve developed this tool with visma that um uses AI to to help develop this more accurately by taking into account GPS and more information and compiling

It into this model and the result is that they reckon now with respect to to calories it’s it’s 82% accurate compared to 52% for the traditional method which also took a lot of time for the coaches so that means that in their their r squared analysis of this that they’re

Accounting for 82% of the calories so they still don’t know what 18% how that’s burnt or where that’s going there’s still that discrepancy but it’s it’s a lot more accurate it is a powerful tool well and that changes race tactics doesn’t it because teams know what Riders are capable of I think we

Saw it first with Team scar with Chris F didn’t we on State on that J Italia in 2018 you know where he like ripped up the rule book that was all based around nutrition strategy calculating how much he could consume and how much he was going to burn yeah and the other teams

No one had ever done it before yeah it’s uh yeah it’s certainly very interesting and it well it would it would appear to be working for them well yeah absolutely but also equipment too right that’s a big one I mean I’m sure it already exists about what optimal wheel depth is

And the optimal tire pressure and so forth well defin not all team I guarantee not all teams are using this but I I maybe I’d imagine some are well the teams that have got less than optimal equipment are probably not using it because their Riders would crack if

You’re like oh god I’ve got to use this and the AI tool says that I’m at a 25 watt disadvantage compared to this team yeah but I mean just in terms of you know this is something that we’ve mentioned on Tech show before are teams that have just one type of allrounder

Bike like a you know pinell or a specialized a disadvantage to maybe the teams that have the lightweight bike and the the AO bike that are more polarized like the sellos um because the AI tools could you help you determine what what gear is is is the best so and this is

Something that would be applicable to every Rider not just Pros you know if if you could have a tool you could it could analyze all of your riding that you do or just maybe the riding where you really want to perform at your best um

And and then tell you well for you and your power output and your weight and your physiology the best bike is this this Arrow bike and it’s this wheel depth well that would be wouldn’t but presumably the the ability of a tool to predict that rests solely on the quality

Of the data that it’s given and that data is quite hard to get at accurately isn’t it I think well that’s one of the things that would be built into tools is to to make these AIS better is that they would be better at disregarding Duff information so yeah there’s that’s one

Of the problems is a lot of the tech we have GPS devices heart rate monitors all of it all the wearable stuff it generates far more information than you can ever process and one of the things that these things need to be able to do is to you know disregard

The bad thing so maybe like it’s your commute where you know you you know you don’t necessarily want to include that and that you know when you’re trying to pick the best bike to do well in a grand Fondo that you’re targeting you know so but you because you need to wear exactly

The same clothes every day wouldn’t you you’d need to have a bang accurate parameter you’d have to have one of those Quark Tire whizzes to tell you what your tire pressure is to take into account that you’d have to have an arrow stick on the front would you need to

Analyze like the wind and air pressure and everything you you got to make sure your power meter is reading correctly yeah 100% you calibrated it yeah so there’s quite a lot to deal with it’s complicated yes but the future that’s why gravel’s great yeah it’s just all about the spirit of

Gravel isn’t it yeah yeah the vibe yeah it’s all okay right we’ve talked a lot about Pros but do you think this is actually ever going to be applicable to Everyday cyclist like you know I put myself in that category these days I I find this really fascinating I think I

Can take it or leave it apart from Route planners yeah I think so I think in terms of choosing what is the best bike for someone I think that would be really useful and like n you see I mean I appreciate some people will choose like

The best B the best like wheel depth but it’s all about heart at the end of the day like if I open my garage door and AI has chosen my bike for me but I think it looks horrible I’m going to no well you still have you still have the freedom to

Choose to disregard the AI hasn’t you haven’t authorized the AI to go and bike the Best Buy the best bike for you it’s just giving you the knowledge to make a more informed decision when you do choose a bike so it’s like wow do you know I think we

Should throw it out to the viewers would you like AI to select your bike and your food for the day and your training strategy and your pacing strategy yeah I don’t know would you if it’s going to make me train like David Goggins then AB absolutely

Not there we go all right we’ll get involved in the comment section I think my vote is I’d like it to exist and then I can choose to disregard it yeah and buy whatever the heck I want it’s time now for hot Tech and the hottest Tech in the world right now is

Our new kit yes I mean this isn’t hot anymore it’s clammy and cold cuz it’s like I said I was I was it really is R yeah I was witing oh not not an hour ago uh but um anyway this is the new gcn kit from auu right

Not a auu not auu but auu because it’s a Dutch brand and that’s how you say it so get used to it folks um but it’s mint isn’t it so this is the same kit that yumbo are using FMA Lisa bike God we got to stop doing that Lisa bike we just SP

The entire main talking point calling them yumbo and then correcting ourselves and say V right anyway but yes visma Lisa bike um and now you said that our sleeves are different no well I was looking at their kit last year and and I looked at the sleeves on these and I was

Like oh they they’re different and then I saw them in the new kit and this is the Jersey they’re wearing there you go Arrow sleeves even faster than we get the shorts Up Next Level po basically all the stuff’s available to buy in the in the gcn shops it’s shop. globaly

Network.com and there’s other bits and Bobs there as well so there’s some Mega bib tights AR there with a windproof panel on the crotch which is something something that I always felt like I needed and now I’m very glad to have poch Alpha which is a bit of a game

Changer isn’t it like that’s a really thick pile uh we’ve got a Gile and a winter jacket it’s like polar bear hide inside it keeps you really warm yeah I never thought about that but it is actually isn’t it yeah um so anyway check out the the shop because there’s

Loads of stuff on there but um yeah we’re super excited aren’t we and this it looks Mega yeah it looks Mega nice to be back in back in red I think it pops more on camera it pops yeah yeah um faster as well in it it more hot Tech uh

This week is in the form of some incredibly um well-priced smart trainers so the cathlon has entered the smart trainer Market with a 240 smart trainer branded as vanriel wow they are really going after cycling so now they’ve got a world tour team um they’ve got those their bikes they’re

Doing for that and now they’re hitting the the turbo trainer markets they’ve got a range of three different turbo trainers I’ve got some of the details here so the ENT level one um is the D100 so as I said ยฃ240 or โ‚ฌ250 it’s a sexy name isn’t it the D100 yeah sounds like

A sounds like an auto route in France yeah so the maximum power is is 600 watts on that one plus or minus 5% accuracy um stimulated gradient 6% you then got the one in the middle but I’m just going to skim that and go straight

Onto the the top end one um which is looking like it’s trying to compete with a wahoo kicker uh in terms of the stats so 2,000 Watts Max accur uh max power plus or minus 2% accuracy simulated gradient 20% and a Big 5 and a half well

5.2 kilo flywheel on there and that’s 550 quid or โ‚ฌ600 wowers that’s the d900 there you go there you go that’s they’re they’re going at it aren’t they they are indeed yeah it’s interesting I mean d cathon have always made like incredible value items for any sport um but yeah

Smart trainers is a new one isn’t it yeah well you’ll go in there you’ll go for your smart SMART Train and you’ll come out with a archery set and a kayak and a kite surfing kite I so when back in the day how they get you that’s how

They get you it’s true it’s like IQ isn’t it you go in there getting one thing and you come out with like a bunch of kitchen utensils that get candles do you I have you down as the candle candle type mate but cool bit of an overshare

Yeah I thought I had you down as the archery type when you walk into the cathlon um but anyway yes that is that is super interesting isn’t it um what else has happened to the world of tech this week we’ve got some cool lightweight um hangers so these are from

A company called frames and Gear Co lightweight hangers I think they are so they they make all sort frames and gear um they’re pretty small brand but they make loads of nice little upgrade accessories for your bike right um including hangers they make them for different frames you have to explain why

That is an upgrade aside from the fact that it’s shiny red well well it’s bling it adds a little bit of bling to your bik right yeah but it’s CNC uh machined and it’s also um well it’s a weight saving so because it’s CNC machined out

Of they do them out of titanium and out of um special alloy as well you’re you’re saving a good few grams on your on your how many grams well it depends from what you’re replacing it with but if you’re going from you cast iron one standard Pell dog is you know very

Weighty but but often you know there’s a there is a a weight SA to be had there and so if you are a weight weeny which many people look look you have to look at the views on the super live video if you want to save some grams and add a

Bit of color and bling to your bike there you go get yourself a machine a cool thing Co all right can I have that one the rainbow effect the Unicorn yeah Unicorn Blood yeah okay no that’s cool all right yeah fair enough upgrading my rear derailer hanger something I didn’t

Know I needed since the ’90s actually when that was kind of all the rage yeah um more hot Tech next week time now for comments of the week so uh under last week’s gcn Tech show which was about the potential of of bikes coming down in price because of

Overpricing in in the market um we had this comment saying therefore gcn can be part of the solution by focusing on lower end and yet still quality bikes parts and clothing and accessories um and help us find good value thank you in advance very popular comment that yeah

Well rightly so as well um and I think well you’ve got big plans haven’t you well last week I bought a bike um and it is it is an entry level entry level bike so did you take out a second mortgage no um it it was I’m I’m not going to reveal

The price but it was I I’m you know good good value for money nice um but make sure you stay tuned to see that because we’ve got some big ideas for it well I tell you what if you need a j race chain set Alex has got one under his bed oh

God imagine I’m not going to put a j James on cool and this one came in from user nt8 D y4x w9r I think that a culture that only aspires to Super bikes is gatekeeping newcomers and eventually ruins cycling think of that well I totally get where you’re

Coming from on that one I kind of feel like I disagree I’ve been into cycling for a long old time now like 30 plus years you wouldn’t believe it would you but yeah I really have and um and it’s always been about aspiring to Super bikes like when I was nine years old

That’s what I aspired to but yet so I think the issue was only blown up in the last few years when when this kind of like rate of acceleration of top end has got out of control I think also social media plays a part I think that’s probably the big difference exacerbates

It doesn’t it because everything you see on the on Instagram or whatever is just bling everything but I just I feel like you know you you aspire to your Canyon CFR or your you know whatever like top tier bike but then you kind of get you

You then just are happy with what you can afford generally I don’t feel like a beginner cers would be put off by seeing mat vanol racing a canion CFR and thinking like well this is off limits I feel like a beginner would be put off by

You know a a cheap road bike being ,000 now that’s totally unacceptable isn’t it yeah but I don’t think the top ends necessarily fault yeah I think it’s both I think like we you know I think we do have a responsibility to help show people how they can get into the sport

And enjoy the thing that we’re passionate about and we love in an affordable way that’s not prohibitively expensive but I think also people want to be entertained and see the the top end pinell and maybe something they will never be able to afford but you know

People want to see this stuff well a bik that weighs 3.6 kilos exactly I do not want that bicycle but I’m really Bloom interested in it well we need to get a video where we where we ride one cuz it’ be amazing feather yeah um next give one

To Blake on gmbn and see what happens to it as well yeah next question U next comment was um by Bobby roll and it was on the bottle cleaning video which has got a lot of views I mean when I made that video wasn’t I expecting it to do

That well I’ll be I’ll level with you but really good comment um from Bobby roll saying that he uses uh denture cleaning tablets for 3 minutes in to clean his bottle um and yeah really good uh really good kind of hack that he goes into in detail

There and I think yeah but thanks for sharing that is yeah that’s really cool isn’t it denture cleaning tablets there you go I’d not thought about that one um Evan Brum said uh this is great given the challenges of the jet flow valve I like how the new generations are easier

To clean is this reference to the bottle yeah so our new Camelback bottles you can like take apart the valve which is makes it much easier to to clean and makes them actually much more hygienic it’s not something I mentioned in the video but a lot of people were

Commenting on that um it’s good good Advantage actually yeah for sure definitely yeah um and then the next comment um last one we’ve got time for is from Crouch and 1191 and this was under the why you’re slower in Winter video that um I did with Alex and it’s

Um and they was basically saying that it’s just harder for them to get going in Winter um and the cold air means that your body is is working harder to maintain a given temperature so they get out of breath quicker um and it takes longer to get into the groove compared

To Summer yeah which I think is yeah often feel that way um did you guys talk about overshoes in that video um I personally feel that overshoes suck about 30 to 40 Watts you re oh my goodness that first day of the year where you get to take your overshoes off

Is literally like your FTP increases by 30 Watts it’s amazing is this you projecting again about your ankles no well yeah I mean my ankles suck 30 wats FTP anyway no generally this is something that I’ve experienced over the years where like you ride around in Winter and you’re like m whatever and

Then the day you take your overshoes off it’s just like it’s like a new you there’s there’s there’s I mean there’s a significant amount of um increased frontal area I think from from having a and know your drag is the resistance yeah from the you know nepr or whatever

Yeah honestly there you go you guys try it I don’t like having cold feet though no that’s that definitely sucks that slays you down right the bike Vault so we’re back to the old up loader as we were before the gcn app but yeah don’t fear not we’ve got a link in the

Description so you can go on there you can upload pictures of your bike and then we’re going to judge them to be nice or super nice if they’re super nice what happens s there’s a bell where is the Bell there it is do I do the honors

Yes hey okay here we go the Bell truth first up this week wowers what are you saying to that this is from Dominico it’s his b BMC time machine TT bike in Italy that is an absolute weapon that does look actually look like something out back to the future doesn’t it that

Is a time machine yeah I mean it’s not the best photo it’s a you know it’s a bit weird but I just think for that chain ring alone and I mean that bike is outrageous I am um someone AI has uh dictated the component choices on that

Bike has you reckon that I’m just like Blown Away by that chain ring I think it looks incredible I’m that’s a super nice for me that is cool isn’t it um I can’t work out whether the valves lining up yeah well he’s lined up the logos on the rear

Wheel because it doesn’t really have the exposed valve yeah okay are you happy with the background not really but it’s it’s look at the B come on ow sorry yeah we don’t have this problem in the gcn show just taking my shin out um yeah go on then I’ll give it super

Nice right uh next up we’ve got this one from Randall Gabrielle a biane impulso randles from the Philippines took some photos of my bike whilst riding around in Jurassic Park that I love that okay I appreciate it’s quite a busy backdrop but that is cool it does look cool

Doesn’t it beautifully framed I really like that um I like the way that it it’s like the the chelest biane logo is just like really popping in the is yeah so yeah I mean unconventionally super nice yeah I’m going to go with that that’s doing it for me that one there we go

Right beautiful yeah lovely photo R next we’ve got Joshua with a B twin Ultra 900 CF and he’s in South Africa in a lion and Rhino Park whoa that’s pretty gnarly isn’t it um how you feeling about this one I like the BART tape that matches

With the highlights on the side um and the saddle actually that’s a nice touch in it yeah it’s color coordinated it’s pretty cool how do you feel about leaving race numbers on bikes after the race is finished well where do you stand on that I I personally I take them off as soon

As the race is done uh and then I keep them as a souvenir um I’m not one for having them hanging around on my bike uh but you know if you done something super cool then you know why not yeah I mean there’s a few infractions here the

Wheels aren’t neatly aligned you know he’s sort of propped it up against something weird I think oh I wonder whether that is an event because it looks like there’s a timing chip on the front we give the benefit of the doubt yeah we we’ll give him the benefit of

Doubt on this occasion I like that yeah no I I wouldn’t say super nice all right nice yeah yeah I think that bike could be a super nice I think it could it’s got the potential next all right slide toston with his t checkpoint sl6 location in the woods I just bought new

Wheels to get in the bike Vault he said what’ you make of that yeah now we’re talking I like that tell you what bonus points Shadow stand look at that oh yeah didn’t even notice that yeah well that’s the that’s the idea so I tell you what tson has worked blooming

Hard for this one clean backdrop he’s been paying attention as vales at 12:00 bigy small like this is how you guys roll isn’t it into it yeah and it’s a wicked bike at the same time as well so uh so yeah go then super nice yeah beautiful mattier is next and

It’s a Farah all Road um and he’s in Belgium what do you make of this wow I’m liking that too I mean I don’t like the photo particularly the backdrop but that is a seriously bling bike I just think it’s like a functional winter Steed a functional winter Steed with Princeton

Wheels ceramic speed yeah oh my goodness me oversized pulley wheel system got mudguards though matcha you are one lucky person to have a bike like that if that’s your winter bike then yeah wowers yeah know that is pretty cool isn’t it yeah I’m liking that you go super nice on that one yeah

I think so interesting rocking the grx with quite big looking chain rings on there as well that’s that’s an interesting uh very nerdy combo but um but yeah I mean well I mean I feel like I’m just commenting on how much I like his bike Asos to anything well you like

It then don’t you I think it’s a super nice okay we’re both like drawn in by it yeah all right yeah that super nice also I’m uh can I comment about the matching bottles right um I had to pull Connor up for non-matching bottles and he was so

Annoyed cuz he was like and I was like it’s absolutely fine to have whatever water bottles you want on there but Connor you can have M matching bottles if I had said to you right right a gcn presenter was arrested by the police for not having matching

Bottles who do you think it was you would have said Conor straight away yeah 100% yeah but anyway no so um he got a bit upset right last one this week holy smoke Scott Mitchell who was training for the Fred Witten uh in short Scott

Says it’s a 2022 giant TCR with a custom paint job to mirror the colors of the charity I do all my cycling challenges for muscular distrophy UK please excuse the Clutter but not the gcn saver as I was on my way to a winter Club ride I

Tell you what he’s he’s got his uh he’s got a little a diddy one Shadow stand as well oh fair play yeah that is an outrageous custom paint job it’s very different isn’t it I like how the B tape B tape uh matches as well and also the

Seat custom painted seat post I double wrapped B tape for extra comfort that is a CH cool pretty cool mod the wheels aren’t aligned but I’m going to I’m going to let it slide I can see cuz that is a really nice looking phot yeah yeah

Okay yeah we is that oh it’s almost a clean sweep yeah good week a good week I feel like we need to go back to that b twin and give it super nice just cuz just cuz all the others have they can resubmit it must try harder yeah okay um that’s

Wicked though I like that that’s um oh yeah beautiful bikes yeah right well that’s all we’ve got time for this week hope you’ve enjoyed the show make sure you stay tuned um for all the cool stuff that Alex has been getting at the tour down under cuz you’ve seen some amazing

  1. While there are many similarities between "just statistics" and "AI", these are different things (e.g. if you use neural networks to train on datasets that's often better than simple logistic regressions), so it's not purely marketing.

  2. Iโ€™m all for AI helping me make choices about food intake and workoutsโ€ฆ in fact, some days AI can choose my work out and then go ahead and do my workout for meโ€ฆ then let me know how Iโ€™ve done ๐Ÿ˜…

  3. I'm ok with all the monitoring, but real-time information and communication on the road during races I'd rather see dialed back. I feel there needs to be more human factor/error involved.
Even limit the size of the stage notes taped to frames. (Standardize the size allowable)
Currently it's feeling a bit too … clinical. Riders becoming robots.

  4. I've got a problem with balancing my nutrition in general, so an AI that tells me how much to eat what and when, would be great. Ideally it would just say "You need 35g of protein X before bed. The following foods contain it: A1, A2, A3." and I just go to the fridge and eat one of the A's it told me. This would combine information, analysis and choice.

  5. Interesting AI conversation but to me it feels less like Artificial Intelligence and more like Automated Intelligence e.g. parse a load of data (too much for a human), apply a set of rules (written by human experts), determine scenarios and finally suggest the best plan/diet/tactics. IMHO true artificial intelligence is way off but I know itโ€™s got a lot of investment and will eventually be something real rather than a marketing exercise.

  6. If that Fara All-road is a super-nice standards have dropped too far. Bike was too small in the frame to see anything, it was squint to the wall it was propped up on, had giant white bottles still on it, valves and wheels completely out of alignment with each other meaning the wheel logos were way out. Plus ceramicspeed on a winter/all-road bike on which components will presumably get trashed by wet, gritty roads. It's a nice bike but they need to do better than that. This is the bike vault, you can't just let things in because they've got gucci parts.

  7. Think 10, maybe 20+ years in the future with pro racing. AI will have multiple more data feeds and be making decisions on the fly/in race dependant on the riders mood, their beard/haircut shape, their cycle (excuse the pun and mostly related to female riders), how successful their holiday was at re-charging their body batteries (thats probably already being measured) but THEN AI will decide what holiday you can have, which friends to spend time with based on how this effects your well being…..proper George Orwell scenario…..

  8. I have a question about the measure or how to measure bike bolts. I've got a bike seat that is using a larger bolt and want to change out the bolt with a titanium (weight). I am really having problems with understanding the "M" rating on these bolts.
Most of them I've looked at are M5 at the length of 30/35/40 mm, I understand the numbers I don't understand what the M means or how to determine how to figure it out when I look at a bolt and what sort of tools to use to determine the size.
The bolt I'm currently using has a round tubular nut is thicker in diameter than the M5 I ordered and sent back. When I look across the internet I can't seem to find a M6 only M5 seat bolt.
Not sure if my bike is the only one in the entire world uses this hefty heavy bolt. Please make a video to explain how bolts are measured and how we can figure that out.
