Hey what’s up Chaz here we’re in Barcelona Spain to track down Ashton lambi world record holding track cyclist American gravel racer Ultra endurance racer and also a cycler for American magic a boat racing team make sure to like make sure to subscribe let’s go track down to Ashton lambi and see what
The life of a cycler in Barcelona is all about this is the group how many cyclers are there as part of American magic nine cyclers on American magic this is most of them yeah sometimes people do different rides like some people ride inside come from a pretty wide variety
Of cycling backgrounds you world record holder on the track yeah uh gravel Ultra endurance cyclist gravel cyclist and now you’re a cycler what is the training what’s the difference in training you just said you did a 24-hour week last week with the team yeah so so we have
Tests you know like every every few months just to kind of see how the training is going riding bikes riding bikes like you know some you do some hard days you do some easy days yeah um except now I always think about it like what this specific metric is so like in track
The be all end all is lap times yep which is what your world record is essentially shooting for just lap times like that’s the only thing that matters and so here um for being a cycler it’s just Watts watts are the only thing that matters huh so now instead of training
For the shortest lap time you’re training for the most Watts the most Watts purely yeah arrow is not a factor anymore in a lot of you know Road cycling there’s crashes and you can get a little hectic but when you’re a cycler in a racing boat sometimes the boat
Flips over what’s what’s that like uh yeah sometimes the boat capsizes cuz we’re pushing it really hard um and you get real wet from my understanding you power the boat you you pressurize the Hydraulics if it’s in a almost capsized scenario that’s kind of when they need you the most Hydraulics
The most yeah so you’re like halfway through a cap size and they’re screaming at you to put out more watts yeah that that happens but it’s some point you just have to like unclip and be safe and so in a race scenario it’s all about watts is it going to be Peaks and
Valleys you just run in Tempo the whole time like we don’t know really no One Big Valley One Big Valley or one big peak depending on how you look at it there’s one big Valley you got to get out of so this man back here pushes the buttons and that really determines what
Your effort look like is it hard to train for something like that cuz it’s just kind of an unknown um we know it’s going to be hard yeah it’s going to be hard so I mean we can do like race scenarios and like watch video and that
Kind of stuff yeah almost like a pro tour team would go through a a stage you would and said watch a previous race and Bas an effort on that right right right so there’s how many people on the boat total about 20 will rotated in and out
Of the boat there’s only eight on it at one time at one time but between sailor between after guard and cyclers how many it’s like 20 guys yeah and then how many what’s the ground team like like 20 guys in the boat in total we got over 100 on
The team woo so support crew is super important to this endeavor oh massive and the camaraderie between all the guys is is built a lot when we’re out on our bikes going for coffee weekend rides yeah yeah slowly driving each other into the ground we had a big team ride a few
Weeks ago to J in back that was a fun 200k out it wasn’t fun for all of us actually a lot of quick little Hillside stop above Barcelona with Ashton lambi yeah it looks like there’s a boat out there too you can see there’s like the
Big sail and there’s like a couple and the chase boats behind like say by themselves yeah there might be someone out there so this is a new team bike I got um we’re all on Trek madon and obviously all the zip and Ram parts so
I’ve got the 303 fir crust uh with the hookless got Victoria Corsa next in the 28s which is a normal siiz tire is that weird coming from the track where like you run them on like 19s and 20s and now a 28 is like a Road tire yeah I mean
It’s I feel like that’s a pretty normal Road tire for me I’ve I’ve run even wider on gravel like I’m on 47s on gravel so that’s that’s mostly what I’m used to this is nice this is nice so tire pressure wise what are you running
Here on this side track Mone UH 60 in the front 65 in the back nice yeah a couple years ago you broke a world record yeah um can you talk just really quick about what that was like I know you were in Mexico Mexico City racing
But like what was that yeah so I went down to a cant actually different track but similar yep um and it was after I had tried to go to the Olympics in team Pursuit and the I was on the US national team and we didn’t make it um so I
Shifted my focus just to individual Pursuit which is the same distance for kilm it’s on a track bike so you have one gear no brakes it’s fixed you can’t Coast um and then it’s a standing start and you ride 4 km as fast as you can
There was an opportunity for me to be the first person to go sub four minutes and so that was basically all I trained for for like a year 18 months and uh went down to a Calientes and made it happen so uh tech-wise what gear were
You running for that effort uh I was on a 6415 so that’s a one 115 gear inches for anyone you know gear inches yeah anyone who knows gear in that is an astronomical am you run like we just got done hanging out with the American magic team good A little copyright Ashton
Lambi living in Barcelona thanks so much for showing us around dude thanks for coming out fun make sure to like make sure to subscribe but for now this is Chaz and Ashton making you Faster

Ashton is one thick boy. Full of power. Nice job Chad & Ashton!
I've absolutely loved following Ashton's journey through cycling, such a versatile athlete from repping Derbados to what he's doing now. Brilliant – thanks for sharing!
No socks?
