    We’ve done Box Hill a couple times and uh maybe it’s partly to do with that caliber and strength that we have in the Army but there’s an army guy Bo for Army cycling he’s strong he just leads me up those Hills Power of Tim thanks for joining

    Tim definitely uh a pleasure to have met you on my uh Swift Journey yeah I’m still on the wrong B so once I get up this hill and let me start heading downhill just so I don’t fall off the edge completely all on my own I probably sit Fair what you reckon

    To do you think it matters I’m on the drift Standard carbon but I do have my uh 858 Super Eight on I think it makes a difference got my heart rate5 already still a few bardons won’t take long for me to get settled in for group to settle in with so let’s get

    Into it so this is a one of the bigger event group rides to this Rift runs every year it’s a chance to get some colets in ring with a group build some XP get some Fitness unlock some Specialists withis K so when you first start a group ride

    There’s a few things you want to bear in mind such as the benefits of riding with a group so when you already of a group you will travel faster and for slightly less effort so you have the bunch Ro effects what you call drafting so most of the ERS are

    Shielding from that wind coming in front of you and the air that you’re cutting through think of it as like a SLP Stream So You’ already in the group you will be in that con of protective bubble where you’re benefiting and what that gives you anything from this is debatable between

    10 and 50 Watts saving so when you do start a drift race try and stick with a group and stay in the draft draft zone I’m currently out but you’ll see put a bit of extra effort in I should grab the back wheel of that R in front you’ll see a notification

    Should appear there it is 4 m 3 m 2 m now I’m back drafting getting a little bit of that benefit so what you do as you get closer just ease off some of the effort and you slot back in with the rest of the group

    But your first 10 minutes or so it’s going to be settling in keep don’t want to race off will’ll be off and ultimately you’ll find a group that’s traveling at the pace you want to go I’m currently moving at around about two to 2.3 WTS per kilogram

    You can see just on the right of the screen where it’s highlighted blue just in front here and if the group you’re with is just pulling away you find that you’re you’re in the red you’re struggling to catch them just either there should be another group behind

    You and slot in and if you want to have an idea as to if the group ahead or coming up are doing about the same Pace you are look across to that right menu again of all the Riders you can see the what per kilograms that they’re putting

    Out as long as those numbers are similar to where you are that’s probably the group for you you can see 1.9 two in front of me 2.1 there a 2.8 don’t worry about the uh variances obviously it’s Unique to each individual voider so the loer you are more maintaining

    Say 160 watts of power your what kilogram is going to be higher than say someone who is 90 kg but pushing out6 anyway that’s a technical bit you don’t need to know so we found our group we seems to be content to move at this pace so I might end up staying with

    This group for most of the ride I’m a little bit breathless so it really is a chance to settle in find your Rhythm then you can start thinking about getting the most out of your riding I’m I making nice big smooth circles with my pedaling what’s my body

    Position like I know mine’s crap at the moment but drop the elbows Tim will tell me get Arrow although being Arrow from the bike not really relevant when you’re goinging indoors so you can see Talking of Arrow I have the Arrow power up no need to use your your ship I’ll

    Probably use it if I start to F I’m getting dropped give a bit of a break bit of a breather go be arm is working hard is that the saddle this is a nice place so you should find my heart rate starts dropping as it start to relax and feel settled

    In so let’s talk more rot ride Basics and tips you can see there’s a little bunch of us here there’s about nine or 10 of us and because we’re in a group we will travel a lot faster than if we was a solo Rider because we’re getting a draft benefit

    And the person in front is going to be getting all of that wind so doing the same speed they having to be put out a little bit more effort than everyone else behind so the etiquette is the person in front will rotate with share that effort it’s kind of like an Unwritten

    Rule some people are better than others some people don’t know and that’s fine some people are just happy to just sit in the middle or are working near to their limit just to stay in the group so being in front is really going to destroy them that’s fine it’s a team

    Effort it’s a group ride and it’s chill we can all get to the end of the race a lot easier while working together so I’m to be fair this is quite quite a decent Bunch we’ve got quite a decent block here ideally you don’t want to be right

    Off the back it’s easier to fall off then you miss a break or the change so the gradient is changing now I’m going to drop down the gear try to maintain the same effort we’re traveling about 35 km an hour and what you might find

    In this little group we might pick up or accumulate other riders or other smaller groups as we go around could potentially end up as one Big Blob 34 km left six down and if you want to chat to your group using the companion app you can just go

    To the top where it says messages and the menu that shows all the ERS on the right you have a similar menu on the companion app shows of orders you can click into each one you can set your privacy levels so determine how much of your information you’re happy to share

    Publicly we can usually see the rer data pass rids level Etc and you can message so I’ve often send people messages now you’re roing out and there’s someone there saying jump on I’ll pull you take some of that wind at the front or even just a few words of

    Encouragement nice Pace guys or great ride and of course you can do on Hammer Time ring the bell say your toast say nice oh I need to F him off this power up oh see I just about got that one then so if you go through a gate and you

    Haven’t activated your power up you won’t get another one so as long as you f it off before the gate and it’s still activate in you’ll get another one there you go I’ve got of my arrow and now I’ve got a draft power up coming afterwards so I thought we have actually

    Picked up a few few other riders in this group know that we’ll pick up a few more I like doing the uh little Kenny tip BBC tip have a tip of the BBC uh I like doing the grou ride on but I just pressing the little circle that’s

    Above your arrow on a companion app it will give a ride on to five NY swifters been range when I’m in a group I like to continuously press that so I can make sure it’s my way of keeping my eye on the people that are in the group I might

    Keep an eye on a couple of names names that not familiar cuz often you might get sworn by another faster group coming off or come up to another group and you can sometimes lose track of who he was riding with so by doing the ride ons I

    Know that let do one again and it’s no more thumbs up they were probably the group that were riding with me depending on how busy the group Bo is can be quite easy to lose the people you were with so we might end up taking on these two

    People so what I’d do if I was one of two bers in front I can see this group coming up behind I’ll be checking out their watch the kilogram seeing if they’re near to to me or where I’m happy to ride and if so I’d love to latch on to that

    Group The More in the group The easier to ride there you go we’re nearly doubled in Size little bit light here chance of a bit of recovery you’ll see my graph at the bottom go a little bit blue signify I’m ping in a bit lighter 31 km left woo did you see the size of that pumpkin in the field it was huge it was like a

    Tree so this is probably one of my one of my favorite routes to ride into R partly because it’s one of the newer newer worlds and the newer Roots but I like the length so 40 km just over fairly interesting terrain CU it changes quite a lot between the city the

    Countryside even into like some ancient Aztec looking type part of the world and there not anything taxing in terms of Hills or gradients so enough Variety in the terrain and the gradient to make your a little bit interesting I mean don’t get me wrong I can knock out 40 km on tempus

    Which is one of the flat routes you can get a bit tedious the holdes wrist environment makes it this is more interesting here we go everyy now now deep country there be some nice board walks waterfalls hidden Rivers if I could pick any holiday destination to go to I

    Think I definitely holiday in with watopia or murri right so as we go through this tunnel you’ll see the terrain change completely they’ve connected the old town with the new town in neio like I’m losing my group so I’m going to eat up a bit a little bit C away with my uh

    Up I’ll do it after we come out the arcade with about another kilometer or maybe half a PR here than there’s another power off follow it now actually give myself a bit of Brea so I’m now I’m getting additional draft benefits an additional 10% of draft On He My heart rate’s not really Dro much it’s staying at 155 graph is [ __ ] rainbow [ __ ] packet the Skittles so I’m trying to think any more essential I can tell you about being a group ride other than trying to stay with the group if you’re working too hard then that’s probably time to fall

    Off the group you with and hopefully get picked up by another group if you can’t find someone else to ride it’s not the end of the world you’ve also got the option when you start a group ride if you fall and half early you can usually do late join

    Within the first 30 minutes so you can quit the race or the ride and then join again and when it joins you with the main group or the front of the ride again slight help 15 km down 25 to Go my left leg’s getting a little bit sore little bit of muscle cramp near a little bit of recovery as it hits 5% heart R finally dropped a Bit hey hey hey hey heyy He hey hey hey hey hey will we take on these two rers 4% okay so let’s talk about my journey zift I started zwifting just over 3 years ago it was 3 years in November 23 and that was when the lockdown happened I wanted something to be able

    To do my exercise do my cardio indoors I stum across this wh got myself a turbo trainer and a road bike and we came with Swifter started streaming met a few other fellow zwifters and sists started making some content on Tik Tok and YouTube and I

    Spend probably about 5 days a week on zwift streaming talking about zwift and stream in I’m just trying to promote positivity and inclusivity in cycling so Fitness wise I’ve been cycling ever since I was a young boy BMX and as a kid B the bmx tracks doing like stunts and stuff in the

    Street and mountain biking just for fun then mountain bike trails downhill mountain biking cross country all the time I’ve been a swimmer ever since a young boy swimming every day since 18 gym to obviously get strong and buff but mostly to improve my swimming I’m mountain biking I don’t

    Dream as much as you used in fact I probably only we go to gym probably five times a year now we got a workout at home home workouts body weight and resistance bands yoga swimming and of course cycling indoors and out not as much Ming B TRS as they used

    To loads and loads of swifting variety of outdoor Riding Road Mountain gravel anywhere where I can explore and have fun see new sites taking new scenery try and take in a few local K all for fun and getting fit and buff shedding calories losing body

    Stats average of your cycling Fitness I like that as a more accurate measure that’s the where I am but I’m always looking to increase my overall FTP next Milestone is 250 250 up up so what your FTP basically means it’s it’s the watch you could maintain

    In theory for an hour until you fatigued out so to use it as a good way to work out what group you should be in for grou group categories for racing it means that you can still enjoy riding still enjoy racing without just being left or dominated by faster

    Riders who are those guys they are new yeah they are new there’s that example of being sworn by another group coming up behind but that’s our origal group Behind what else have been up to I Really of jumping onto the Swift Academy which happens around about October November every year and it is a chance for you to earn a contract you can check out that video there of me reviewing some drift Academy workouts last

    Year up about it I’m not interested I’m not interested in the contract I’m not good enough anyway keep that between me and you but I like the structure of the workout and it gives you focus and the workouts are designed by real cycling coaches so I look at it as I’m getting

    Some some free coaching all included in myft subscription yeah there’s definitely a new group in front of us uh couple years ago I did a virtual everesting which is cycling up the equivalent elevation of a Mount Everest you know how high Mount Everest is leave a message in the

    Comments what is the height in meters or feet to cycle up M Everest I’ll give you a clue there’s an eight in there somewhere maybe more than once anyway Everest in eight and a bit times up out the WFT it’s only the uphill Journey that counts so you cycle

    Up all of that elevation is what’s counting distance is irrelevant time is irrelevant you get to roll down the hill again be you’re doing it indoors you can actually get off the bike go and have a Wei go a toilet you know have a shower eat do whatever you

    Want and the bike will just roll it way down back to the start of the AL again there were no time restrictions on how long you can take to get back on again the clock starts counting the moment you uh cross the start line the only thing you can’t do is

    Sleep in between doing it not unless you’re doing like a multiple every Spin and there’s specific conditions obviously read all those to make sure your RS afficial register with P 500 um yeah so then you w up again so eight and 34 times of Al’s width and you’ve completed an everis thing I’m

    Sure you all working out how tall is out whisk you got to do it eight and a bit times yeah or I’m sure you could uh find another easier way to work out how T my ever is yeah so the when you’ve done it you become

    To r a bike IND doors I was like I probably not used as with that I probably just ride the bike that was my intention so I did the onee trial on zwift and uh tried it out and I was like oh my God this is amazing so as soon as I finish

    That ride I didn’t even wait for a 7-Day trial to finish I signed up I was like take my money I love this £1.99 a month P hasn’t changed in the three years I’ve been a member can’t of like expecting there might be a might be a rise The Horizon now

    Obviously I don’t know crap I don’t know shiz man but everyone else with a subscription is increasing the membership Amazon Disney everyone now they have created a new option that gives you annual subscription you get a discount I think you get maybe one or two months free I

    Haven’t swapped over yet and obviously being the bargain hunter that I am F over ases ago so I’m probably going to switch to that I know a lot of people like to ride outside in the good web not the spring summer and then by the time Autumn winter comes switch to just

    Riding indoors so obviously a 12- month subscription not really getting your money’s worth but I’m on DFT all the time there’s usually a month or so in the summer when it’s just too hot to ride inside usually get an outdoor ride right about 5:30 in the morning Sun’s already

    Up it’s still cool but there’s nowhere I can ride after that no way we’ve lost all of our group let’s get the RO On on body one of my fellow twitch streamers don’t if I’ve been dropped by the ones behind or the ones in front catch them on the climb what you don’t want to do is get left out on your own like I am now there a fe behind

    Me I’m not going to push for 5 seconds to catch those in front burn me energy I stick with a grp behind and hopefully bridge that Gap with these people I’m not on the best wheels anyway gra a bike or mainting bike for this section must be why I got

    Dropped on on 15 C left welcome the uh yeah what else have we done so yeah so doing a few races I didn’t ever think I’d won a race I’m not really competitive I like to compete against myself push myself beat my previous time no go faster than last time see

    Races of found that it’s a good measure of the training or the workout plans that you’re doing is it paying off are those V2 max workouts you’re doing and all that suffering is it paying off you can judge that by a Podium finish you can also judge it by your

    Ride FTP at the end your normalized power is it higher than your FTP is it higher than you thought it would be those numbers are going to give you an indication as to your journey improving gains 14k so you got to know on the hill most people are probably going to maintain

    The same what’s per kilogram than we’re doing on the flats rather than burning out on the flat to catch that group again I’m just going to put extra effort in on the hill where you get the most gains see I’ve already C these three and I’m used to Gran Hills from

    Being a mountain biker rest the legs by standing There you go I’m back with them and I prefer to do that because I can recover better by a gradual extra effort up the hill than all out trying to catch a group that’s already going at a decent pace anyway then it’s harder to recover from the shorter burst the higher

    Rate well that’s for me anyway I’ll drop the gears down so I can spin flush out someone that lactate help with my recovery so back to the races so yeah and I used to join on Timmy poed in earlier for the Army cycling they used to race on I

    Think it was Tuesdays they usually jump onto their group races and that was really really good for me because um they were a lot stronger than me even with the groups I think I was D category to start with so ring with a a stronger faster group Conor forces you to

    Improve so it give me uh lots of improvement gains in a short pace of time CU I was being forced to work at a higher level than what I’d normally work at I did get a few podiums actually not necessarily with the army guys but in doing those races couple of golds

    Why not try to make yes be the default rather than no start with a yes and then you can work backwards so I love a challenge and if you ask me if you want to do something I’m going to say yes long as it’s legal and it’s fun I love
