Au terme d’une étape difficile, ralliant Norwood à Lobethal, le vainqueur du dernier Tour de l’Avenir a réussi à piéger les sprinteurs en réalisant le coup du kilomètres, afin de venir chercher sa première victoire en pro, à tout juste 20 ans. Sur la ligne, il devance les deux coéquipiers d’Israel-Premier Tech, Corbin Strong et Stephen Williams. Par la même occasion, Del Toro s’empare également du maillot orange de leader du classement général.
