Enjoy this early morning bicycle commute to the bakery in Denmark. This 12 km ride goes from Tibirke through the forest down the beach and bakery at Tisvildeleje. I set out right after sunrise at 6:15 am on Tuesday 31 August 2021, so get ready for some beautiful scenery with morning mist, deers leaping out of the forest, the majestic beech trees and people taking a morning swim at the beach.

Highlights of the video include:
0:10 Bicycle used for this ride parked in front of Rølikkehuset, the country house of my parents
1:43 Seeing first deer (difficult to see on video) and beautiful sunrise with morning mist (still photo inserted into video)
5:12 Amazing sunset
5:45 Oldtidsvejen. The oldest road in Denmark (4800 years old!)
6:22 Forest spring water near Tibirke Kirke (church)
7:27 Tibirke Kirke (church), 900 years old. At one point, it was partially covered by drifting sand
13:49 Entering the forest
16:05 The national tree of Denmark, the beautiful tall beech tree.
17:25 Three deer crossing the forest road incl. instant replay in slow-motion
18:29 Niels Bohr (Danish Nobel Prize winning scientist) used to have a summer house around here. Telling about this exciting time of scientific discoveries with Bohr’s contemporaries Albert Einstein and Werner Heisenberg.
23:30 Entering center of Tisvildeleje town, a popular beach holiday destination
25:25 Bicycling down to the original small Tisvildeleje fishing village harbour
26:41 Feeling the sea water with a temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius
28:17 Guy going for a morning swim naked (normal)
31:31 Arriving at the bakery to buy the Danish pastries incl. tebirkes, snegl and frøsnapper
35:02 Explaining about Danish pastry (Wienerbrød)
36:33 Simple bicycle lane, just a line on the road 😊
39:07 Passing the monument that commemorates the planting of forest to stop the shifting sand (Sandflugtsmonumentet)
43:55 Beaver rehabilitation after being extinct in Denmark for 2500 years
44:15 Alas, the battery of my GoPro died shortly before making it back
44:20 Map of bicycle route and riding statistics

This is my first visit back home to Denmark during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was wonderful to see family and friends again after more that 1½ years. And the weather during this late summer 5 week work holiday was great, as evident from this video. Enjoy the ride!

  1. Nice to see you again. Happy New Year .. Is this on a vacation ? Surely Scandinavian landscape and surrounding are the best for cycling ..

  2. Beautiful Danish landscape. I love the lifestyle of the Nordic countries, living in a quiet place and being able to go everywhere by bicycle. This in my country would be really complicated. I wish you a happy and prosperous new year : D

  3. Great to see a new video. It’s like a special event now 🙂 And also very interesting location for a ride on a regular Dutch bike. Pushing it to its limits.

  4. It looks like a really nice quiet area. But presumably holiday homes are going to become a thing of the past very soon. Governments are going to have to bring in laws that force people to sell second homes for sustainability reasons. But obviously no one really understood any of that decades ago. Just like with all of our other over-consuming habits that we’re beginning to face now.
