The first gravel ride of the year is in the books! Joined the Etxendo team in the Netherlands for a race/social ride – the Hel van de Vlagheide. We all assumed this winter gravel ride would be a breeze. Little did we know what awaited us on the trail.

Good morning everyone from the first race group ride in 2024 and I am on the even helan flag hide I hope I’m saying this correctly this is this event so sorry guys but I don’t want to break my tank and today I’m also with the guys from ex Dondo team uh so we

Doing like 60 kilm really uh chill right today so just like warm up for 2024 and let’s see what we will have like during uh this entire ride but it will be fun the weather is not that good because it’s really really cold but like

In 2 3 kmet we will be warm so Yeah so today will be really interesting ride because I’m the only one guy in the group uh because the rest of the guys went for a longer distance so I’m riding today only with ladies which is kind of cool because I know that they’re really fast and really good on the gravel path

So definitely the I will have like small competition on the road and I’m also really happy because I really like right with the gers cuz there’s like less competitive and it’s all about fun so yeah it will be really really funny Right so we did first 5k just a warm up and it’s more like kind of again Road on a kind of bike paths and also like small roads close by the highway but I think the big thing is like coming and what some of the guys in the

Start told me that uh this terrain was like float last week and it will be also muddy so we still have a chance to be more dirty than right now but also right now I’m like a little bit warmer and also had like really nice conversation with ladies so it will be

Really nice ride as a warm Up f yeah Woo right now I know why the Dutch people are calling this road kind of small hell because right now we just passed a really muddy kind of Trail like flooded with the water and that was really really difficult to ride with the gravel bike even and I didn’t have a

Grip on my terus but yeah that was quite So right now we did 20 km from 60 and we have really solid and fast SP and it’s really impressive because I’m still on the holiday mode and uh ladies are putting like a lot of pressures which is cool good preparation from Atlas but yeah kind of Impressive So we did Smo 35 km and uh what I saw on the description that it will be really muddy and some section will be like floating with the water and that was true because yeah it’s sometimes difficult to ride with this mod especially like with the

Big group uh but if you’re going slowly it’s fine uh but the entire road is really beautiful and going through all this like uh like sections through the forest so it’s also really nice and I really enjoy this ride especially like if it’s even cold but uh yeah right now it’s

Fine we have a lot of fun and I’m just waiting for a coffee stop because I just need to like a little bit like hot treat during this ride yeah but quick question how is the ride the ride is perfect okay first one uh during this year it’s the first long

Ride long ride first longer ride it’s not long yeah this it’s okay nice warm up before War before big things this year yeah nice yeah woo very [Applause] VI so this is the thing that the entire Trail is float with water so yeah sometimes uh you just have to walk with your bike oh god oh so this is our last 10 kilm and mostly it will be on the road I think

And this is what I saw in my garment and we will be also crossing the uden city and then finally to the finish line so I like like this kind of like easy finish went on like last 10 5K you just stick on the road after this like kind

Of Muddy hell this is how they describe this right So the first race SL big group ride is done and we are on the finish line right now we just want to pack the bikes to the car and just go to the cycle experience for another coffee and just like be in a warm place because today

Was like extremely uh cold but uh I really enjoyed this ride I did only 65k but for me it’s enough for the beginning of this year after like almost 3 weeks break without bike and what I can say about this event and like entire Trail

Uh it was really nice and I like this kind of terrain where it’s like mixed with mod with some like uh tiny trails and you go through the woods or like big fields so that was really good and also everything is well organized and the coffee stop and cyc experience was also

Really great which of course really good coffee and service so everything was perfect and I will try to do as much as possible like this type of even during this year uh so I don’t have to travel like uh far away from Amsterdam because I think there’s like Po itial in the

Netherlands Belgium and Germany that you have like this kind of small events uh with also really nice people and like Trails so that’s also my goal for this year and maybe I would like try to figure out like small guide around this like kind of small races but let’s see
