For the past 10 years I’ve been attending a gardening event in central London and this year I thought I would take the camera along to have a look at the Garden trends for summer 2023 I’m OE uh I’m the owner and CEO of Envy um and we’re here today at the

Garden press uh launching our new product root well um so for years we’ve sold bacterial based products um in both the gardening and the pwn keeping sector and we’ve always seen great benefits of bacteria in Garden but found that it was quite hard to get that into the

Mainstream market so we started running tests with micro eyes as well as bacteria and we’ve Blended the two together and seen some really good results um so we’re launching that today it’s a an organic powder certified with Earth andng um and we sell it in an 80 g

Pouch and should grab a sample really we sell it in an 80 g pouch and it treats uh it treats 80 plants uh 82 L plants so it’s really high highly concentrated um and you simply sprinkle it around the base of your plant either when you’re transplanting or planting out and then

That can uh help to increase the root strength increased nutrient and moisture uptake protect against pathogens um and then yeah you can use that throughout the season as opposed to using it only when you’re transplanting you can top it up throughout the season um because you’re just applying it around the base

Of the plant and also tell me about some of these products over here so the water butt so yeah water butt clear again is a bacterial product where we’ve use strains from both our gardening uh branch and our pond Branch to help clean water in water Bots and also add

Bacteria in there that can help populate Roots so it cleans your water bot and then when you use the water to water your plants it adds beneficial bacteria into the soil that help with um with root development and this one here compost probiotic is a blend of bacteria

And seaweed and some other nutrients that helps to improve the quality of poor compost um obviously over the years over the last couple of years we’ve seen an increase in poor compost coming out that’s got well it’s not really gone through the composting process properly and the bacteria helped to to break down

Some of the harder material in there um and we use that from we’ve got a product called compost accelerator which helps to increase the composting process and increase the temperature within compost tees so it incorporates some of that bacteria to working shop boo compost I’m

Sean Kelly I work for petcon and one of the brands that I support is singing friend from Corner bird uh the singing fend feeder range uh is unique in the UK in that the Recycled products are made from recycling the laminate film from the inners of drinks CS uh so rather

Than send the films to landfill or incineration where reg granulating and turning them back into a second life sustainable product all right so it all started from from over here yeah yeah so starts as a drink C we take the seven inner layers out of the drinks carton that turns it

Back into this recycled plastic which is then granulated and reformulated into a new usable product it’s about time that bird feeders were given a bit of uh art yeah you know and and it is it is an Artful range it’s an impact impactful range um

I like the tree as well the tree is great yeah yeah it’s uh yeah it’s it’s a great way of displaying it it brings it brings it to life um and there’s some great Unique Products within the range um anything from your traditional fat feeders uh to a multiple fatball

Feeder um and then you’ve got peanut feeders and Seed feeders silet feeders beautiful I’m David merik we’re from Mayhem and we have a trade name called The Wicked water and we’ve invented a grinch of gadgets to try and help plant owners stop killing their house

Plants so what exactly is it they in the main the main product is uh what we call the plant alarm this is alarm this is this is in butterfly form it can be in uh flour water lily form and it will flash every 15 seconds when the plant

Needs watering when the plant doesn’t need watering flashes every 30 minutes just to reassure you right and it works in with all flowering plants what are the lights these the grow lights these are divided into red and blue the wavelength and they’re designed to give your plants a boost during the

The darker months when uh plants need a bit of a kick especially if you have a house with a shady areas so would you leave that on all day or just for a set am M of time it depends on how much you want to give

What sort of boost it has a timer 3 9 or 12 hours so you can leave it on for just 12 hours just to give it a little bit of a kick if if it’s a bit gray miserable and these other items these are designed to keep your

Plants um watered when you go away this works on the time system weing fashion but we’ve added a a little bit of a key element here which is a controllable valve so you can put this in the water it’s a bottle or a bowl and then push it into the plant

Down at root level where the plant needs the moisture and then leave it leave your plant for two 3 four 5 6 days whatever whil you go away without fear and then one or two other lines we have which are during the growth of interest in terrariums we’ve developed this grooming

Set which also has a pair of snippers and uh to keep your terrariums tidy or or your pot plants as well hi I’m gram from wool pots uh we’re a biodegradable plant pot made of 100% wool what we decide to do was find an alternative to plastic and with our wool

Pots you treat them in exactly the same way as you would a normal plant pot you fill it full of compost put seeds in you water it and then when the seeds grow The Roots start coming through the bottom and then as The Roots come through the bottom dig a hole you put

The whole thing in you leave the lip slightly proud it’s a natural slug and snow deter and after 6 weeks or so the roots just grow through the bottom and it just turns into plant food 100% wool no waste you can see plants love them they look beautiful as well thank you and

Then these and I would imagine if you had them like that that the air would start to prune The Roots as well yes you’re right we we grow them in in troughs uh at home and you leave a small gap between them cuz plants are very sociable and The Roots all intermingle

If you leave a slight Gap the air prune and that pushes The Roots down and because of the KN the the nature of the pots cuz they’re knitted more oxygen gets into the roots and that promotes much better plant growth these are one these are ones that

Have been out this has been out over winter so I I’ve got this just to show people um it should have been planted out but I just want to show people what happens they they go a bit hard the plants survive the winter and then you can see the roots all growing through

The bottom so this will be planted out when I get home and that will be um yeah very happy morning um I work for Hy we’re a privately owned Irish business and our Prime business is in Garden chemicals and fertilizers and we’re on a move away from products such as

Glyphosate into a more natural product range which is organic and seaweed based in the main cuz I’m drawn by this one here the prob the probiotic um so again it is a well I’m sure if I just kind of focus that in there you can and probably

Get all the key features just off the front of the packet there yeah and it’s really how we can promote plant growth without filling the ground with chemicals so just talk to me about this so what we see here is a slug and snail barrier as opposed to being a a

Something that would kill slugs and snails slugs and snails play an important part of the garden ecosystem so the are crushed oyster shells they don’t tend to wash into the ground quite as quickly as conventional Slug and snail barriers and when the animal crawls over the slug because it’s an

Uncomfortable environment they turn around and go elsewhere and also the major advantage is when it rains it’s still there completely completely so I’m going to do a border on beautiful borders and the title is my Escape so I thought about how Escape in the garden and what takes my mind off other things

And that is um I love color I love scent and I like to paint so I’ve designed my garden to reflect that well I can tell that you’re into the color by just having a look at that dress look at that that’s like a garden itself it is isn’t

It it’s fabulous I do like a bit of um flowery Garden dresses even is this the first time you would have done something like this no I did a garden um for Hampton Court at last year and I won a silver guilt and the People’s Choice and

What’s it been like to be a part of the gardener World TV team it’s it’s been a big learning curve um and they have been super supportive and it’s like real a change in career that I wasn’t expecting I absolutely love it yes it it does certainly emphasize that you can change

The direction of your career and go off and do something that well I’ve changed my career three times in my life and um uh so yes I’m all about um you know seeing what the opportunities are and seeing if my strengths fit that and then

Going with it and um you know I don’t plan to ever retire so who you know who knows what will happen my name is Joe web um so I’m here with hydria life and with Cappy um our product is the hydria water fountain kit it’s the very first

Uh battery powered water fountain kit that allows you to turn any planter at all as long as it’s over 30 cm into a stunning water feature in about 2 3 minutes um so it’s completely uh cordless there’s no solar panels so it will actually work when you want it to

Work and it’ll work indoors it’ll work Outdoors So within a couple of minutes of receiving your hydria you can have a beautiful and relaxing Silent Running water feature in your bathroom if you want a spa day in your kitchen in your lounge or even anywhere in your garden

Show me then absolutely this is it is it this is so this is not our product this is Kate’s product from Cappy um these sustainable planter they ship fishing nets and cor um and yeah completely recycl recyclable materials so they’re really really green and of course they’re really really lightweight um

Which is fantastic for our product one of the reasons we love cppy apart from all of that is they’re a perfect fit as it happens for our product so this is the hydria this is simply the water reservoir and this is the bit that allows you to put it in any planter as

You can see it fits perfectly in that one but any planter that’s bigger than that you simply plant up like you would any plant or tree with soil and then you’ve got it nice and level this is the clever bit of technology that goes inside this is

Where we uh put most of our money into patenting it and developing the battery life in this um to charge you simply do that and you plug it into the wall that will charge for 8 hours um kind of like your phone but unlike your phone it

Lasts a long time um that will if you’re using the remote control which I’ll show you in a second you can run it for over 2 months using the timer function on a single charge if you’re running it straight through that will be over 150 hours

Straight all you do is you put your pump inside there you attach a tray on top that allows you to decorate your fountain and customize it and make it personal to you and then you choose your Fountain Head length and type so it comes with two standard in the box which

Is a sprinkler which is more traditional or an indoor Cascade and does it work during the winter or would you it works all year round although we do recommend in the winter that you bring it indoors just to protect it from Icy weather um but it’s a great way to then enjoy water

Feature indoors and which often well with a solar one for example you can’t do that all you do it’s all completely modular so you can very quickly change out how it the type of fountain on top these little guys that you see here the frog and the Pebbles and we’ve got a few

More they’re all add-ons which again they just pop in and out um So within a few seconds you can have another style of water feature for uh quite easily wow and that’s it you fill with water you decorate it however you like we’ve created these which will be available

Soon as addons um just to make it easier and quick to decorate or if you’ve got Stones glass seashells slate anything like that that you can create and make beautiful on the top um and that’s it and as you can see with this one over here which is full of water it’s very

Lightweight and you can move it around the kitchen you can move it around the house in any way you like I’ll just show you the remote control cuz this bit is really interesting so this is um not infrared it’s an IR remote so it will work from I

Think it it’s 15 M away so you’re not hovering over it so if you have it outside you can um turn it on and off from your kitchen for example without even stepping Outdoors it’s got your timer settings there so 2hour timer most realistically most people come in from work and just

Use it for a couple of hours a day that will allow you to run it for over 2 months between charges it’s got different height settings so if you look on this one here if I press on low it goes all the way low and then High goes all the way to

There it’s got different lights as well so it comes with your standard blue green and red hi there I’m Alex McDonald and I’m the marketing manager for newb Hall and Gardens and we’re doing a joint stun today so we’ve got uh ourselves new Gardens and we’ve got the Harriet flower

Show so there’s two flower shows one in Spring which takes place in April and that takes place at the great Yorkshire show ground and then we’ve got an Autumn show in September and that takes place at Newby Hall and Gardens now rippen I went to Rippon a few years ago and it’s

A beautiful place yeah it’s an absolutely stunning place I mean for me one of the Fantastic things about hosting the show at newb Hall is that the visitors get access not just to the show and the showgrounds but also the house and the gardens so the ticket

Allows you to go into the house everything yeah so we’ve got uh some of the longest double habous borders in the country 172 M they are in total uh we’ve got the national collection of uh Cornus dogwoods uh we’ve got uh inside the house on the show weekend last year we

Had Jonathan Mosley came and did uh a series of floral displays within the house so normally uh people have to pay extra to come in and have a guided to the house on the flower show weekend you get to walk around on your own and explore the house and see the different

Floral displays all right well we’ll have to we’ll have to come up in April and see you yeah you’re more than welcome either April or September hi my name is Jason I’m the uh CEO of autopot watering systems we Supply environmentally sustainable watering systems that are just gravity fed and

The plants uh take control of the water there’s no power no pumps no timers or or electricity so this so this is it down here this is it there this is the aqua valve so you fill your Reservoir up with water and fertilizer and gravity pressure pushes the water into the tray

And the valve floods to 20 mm and stops and then when the plants have drunk all the water within half an hour to an hour the valve will know to reopen and it will just flood again ah so it doesn’t take it up through the wick system the

Wick the wicking action is in the in the media in the the compost in the of it so it only floods to 20 mm then completely drains and that I would imagine would probably go on for weeks that will last I mean early tomato for mon absolutely small tomato plants it’ll probably last

A good 28 days in September or probably in August July you’ll probably lasted two to three weeks my name is Toby and I’m one of the directors at Rocket Grow Compost and we are an independent Heat free compost producer based u in Somerset in the west country we produce

A range of 12 products they’re all 100% sustainable all made in the UK uh soil Association approved for organic growing and um we are we believe we’re uh one of the the leading future future proofed PE free producers in the country now well let’s have a look at it then you’ve got

Some here yeah so this is um our multi-purpose blend and um it’s got nice and fine I must say it is pretty fine it’s got a it’s got some LOM in there some wood chip fines bark chip finds um digestate fiber is the the core ingredient in all our product range cuz

The problem that people have had over the last few years is the fact that you were actually finding lumps of wood in things but that we we put our all our all our compost all the all the ingredients go through trommels to refine the uh the size of the particles

Down to about 5 mil um and even finer for the seed and cutting so um we put a lot of time and um spend a lot of money making making that happen it’s very easy to put stuff in a bag can ignore that um but we wanted to make the the prod

Products as refined as possible um and that’s what we’ve achieved this year with our current range and blends hi my name is Andy I’m from hor watering cans um we have watering cans here uh two types primarily we’ve got IND watering cans down here and the larger ones are

Garden watering cans um everything here is made in a factory in Birmingham uh John Hall started the whole thing 1885 he found this patent for an improved watering pot and that took the old school style of pots a thumb on top where you carry the water and let go he

Took a long spout yes sir and what is so good about this one is you don’t have to reach into the middle of the yeah quite right so it’s actually to do with both the reach by having a long spout but you also get in the same sense for Dam and

It’s going to sound funny greater head so that’s a distance between the top of the water and when the water comes out gives you more pressure the greater the head the greater the pressure so as you’re watering the pressure there drives out through those small holes the

Water and you get a nice big fan and a nice spray and then by having the rose this orientation facing up the water goes up then Falls like rain so it’s a lovely gentle shower and we also do is arrange of different roses this is a

Medium spray there a lot of holes it’s a high flow good all rounder we do ones with less and much smaller holes and much bigger holes for different kind of stages of a plant’s life cycle or for different Delicacies or how hardly the plant is um and then the other thing

About the can is the balance so when you’re carrying it you hold it here and the center of the Water Center of effort the the center of the can is there directly underneath so as you’re watering it’s close to your body but nice and comfortable so the cross stays

Level it’s easy to hold and then you take it and you change and as you pour your hand slides through the handle and as the water as the can empties it naturally increases the angle which maintains the pressure so the flow stays the same so your warm Rings nice

And consistent um and pretty much main things to go on about I kind of like this and it looks beautiful oh thank you very kind yes and yeah this one’s been hopped up ganized for complete rust protection so all the metal all the steel is now protected by zinc that’s

Just kind of in areas it’s shiny in areas it’s dull down a little bit and as the can ages you’ll take on more of a kind of matte finish like this we also do them painted which are these ones and these have been powder coated it’s nice and

Glossy and then as well on the smaller indoor cans if your Urban Jungle or if you’re watering uh say seeds in a tray you got the little Rose so the rose there very very fine you can probably see on the camera and that’s great for your seed and ceilings so you don’t

Disturb them as you’re watering or alternatively you can take it off and the great thing about having a curve spout is if you’re watering a pot like that you don’t shoot the water over the pot you can angle it and then water into your pot so you’re doing with and

Without the rose this the Raley Ripple and this ons the phas the flow without that feature on the end that’s kind of kind of like a teapot stops it from dripping by having that bit on there on non drip spout I’m David Turner from Mr fathergill seed the marketing services

Manager and we’re here with the new varieties launched this year for Johnson seeds one of our Brands so we’ve got quite a few as you can see both flour and vegetable and some of the more unusual ones for instance we have the Cherry twist anti a nice by

Color which is quite a striking plant in the garden and I’ve actually recent just I’ve recent just bought this oh the Lim yeah that that’s the one thing about lims I think is the length of flowering that you get out of them they they just seem to keep coming and I think ours

Were still going well past the summer in in our Gard i’ also bought this Gina I haven’t grown Gina and I don’t know so so uh something to try for for the new season I must say this one on the end has got an interesting shap yes

It’s I don’t know how you described it something for a laugh in the Gard exactly yeah but again we all need a laugh at the moment indeed indeed but again quite a striking plant in the garden and something I think that would draw your eye if you grew it so we’ve

Just come over to the other stand here and um I’m drawn by these ones that’s morgon fre yes now again they are a mixed rather than a single variety that we have in the Johnson’s range so it gives you a bit more depth of color and

I’ and I haven’t seen this sweet PE sweet PE Miggy yes it’s um a charity local charity to our company actually and they they look after suffer punch horses so it’s named Miggy is named after the wife of the founder of the the charity so we’ve decided that we would

Join up with them and 25 P from any sale of the packets goes to the charity and I think it’s again it’s a nice mix of purples and Blues in there and uh we’re going to have a pot of it growing at the Chelsea flower show so hopefully

People will come along and buy loads of packets and we actually when we launched the the seed itself they brought along one of their suffet punch horses which probably Drew more cameras than any of our flowers to be honest I’m Kate and we have just launched a brand new house

Plant company called Gabon green and we are here to shake up the UK house plant industry we are UK grown rather than the vast majority of your house plants in UK are flown in from Holland and we are grown in a pete- free growing medium so we are very much leaving the precious

Pete in the peatlands and not only that our real true USP is it is a recycled growing medium all right so at the uh sister nurseries we also grow ornamental flowers so after they have been cut and harvested we actually recycle that growing medium by putting it in our own

Sterilizer and then we’re able to repurpose it for house plants so the stuff that you see in these these pots here have probably been grown in 20 to 30 times right my name is Chris Holden uh I’m from NES Slug and here was here at this event we are launching neslug

2.0 it’s all just explain to me how you use this in the garden yes I have I use it all the time uh but the 2.0 is an improved uh it’s a different n so it’s a new version of nemaslug which is much more effective uh it works in colder

Temperatures and warmer uh dry temperatures as well um so inside here there are actually um live the N which then you put this into into the watering can mix it into a watering can and then you water it onto the well and then water it into the soil

But the trick is to do it twice no the trick is to do it effectively first of all so lots of water but ideally once you you we we normally suggest to use this about every 6 weeks or if not at least three times in a season in order to catch Max yeah

Fit from it to catch those slugs that were eggs when you put it down the first time and once once you’ve watered it in really well uh that let the Nemos get on with it where this used to work in a salt temperature of 5° but now working a

Sal temperature of 3° so it’s very effective in colder temperatures so how does it actually work then so you water it onto the garden yeah well because the what you’re watering in is nematodes which are a uh parasitic work basically so you water it into the soil you don’t

See it uh and what happens their job is to hunt out a slug and they basically in the soil they infect the slug and infect it with the bacteria and they kill the slug underneath the saw but what they do they completely they reproduce inside that dead slug so

Outburst thousands more nematodes again all under the soil so you never seen of it and they their job is to hunt out more slugs so this is a totally natural uh way to control your slugs natural and safe way to control your slugs and I remember the last time that I used this

I didn’t see a slug for the entire season yeah and and that’s a strange one for gardeners because they they’ll they’ll say I haven’t seen any dead any dead slugs around well you won’t but what you hopefully will see you won’t see any slugs which you don’t want to

See slugs around anywhere but you will see plants without any holes in so here we are we’re on the hot bin stall obviously a friend of the show you’ve seen this quite a few times but they have brought this gigantic one out which would be perfect on an allotment site so

Tell so tell me about this one then exactly so it’s it’s meant for bigger areas either bigger Gardens or allotments perfect solution um you’ve got uh two sizes so this one is 450 L it also goes to a bigger level so you can add another

Level on which is makes it 700 l in volume it works similar to the traditional cot bins um it’s hot composting but it’s hot fatch composting so where with the other hot bins you keep adding to the top and remove from the bottom this one you do have to sort

Of dismantle it to remove more like a traditional Bay composting system but within 90 days you can get your compost yeah so 90 days that’s like you’d get like four batches of compost in a year versus a traditional compost bin um so 90 to 180 days um and yeah it’s just

Just a much larger volume but you can put everything in that you can put in the the original well perfect when you’re on a plot cuz you can start to fill it during the end of the summer and then you’ve got your compost come the spring yeah exactly so when you’re

Taking everything out Dead Heading everything you can pop pop everything in in the bin and as you said it’s ready for the spring when you need to use it hello I’m Josie and I’m from hay wool and we produce Garden pads made um using 100% British wool and our garden pads

Can be used for all sorts including hanging basket liners uh Slug and um snail uh deterrent Frost protection growth mediums and compil matting Wildlife bedding and loads of other other uses because the wo will absorb its own weight 40% of its own weight in moisture before it feels

Wet from a hydration point of view it’s fantastic it’s also insulative and it’s compostable my name is Paul hord and I’ve developed a peak free compost utilizing Coya compost I went to India and S Lanka looking for um how I could improve it so the first one here is is

My new compost and that’s got controlled release fertilizer Trace elements in it this is the witch Best Buy followed by the brand leader in the garden center followed by a traditional favorite compost and that has weeds in it this day a direct competitor to May thech comes in a block it’s very compact

So in this box is equivalent to two Le two bags of compost and within there the fertilizers are already in there and because this is only 12 12% moisture it actually allows all the fertilizer for the plants need to be in there for the season now would you use that for seeds

Or is it a bit it’s a bit too strong for seeds really it’s best it’s okay for pricking out potting on and all that seeds is a bit it’s a bit too strong for seed sewing and I am H I’m having a guess that your compost is the one on

The left with the flowers in Spring I’ll be launching that one yes indeed yeah again with the polyan as well that’s got that compared all planted on the same day treated in a cold Greenhouse all identical so just hold up that compost for us to see because it’s very fine yeah beautiful

Yeah it’s got a good high air paracity so it means it holds the water but it also releases water so and the results are there yeah absolutely hi so my name is Chris Wy um and I am the owner of sustainable plant store um I launched this company in October last year

Following My Success with a sweet pee that I named Peter sebr in memory of the late great Peter sebr who passed away last year ended up in the hands of her majesty um so my logo incorporates the sweet pee with the crown so sustainable plant store was launched selling plants

In coia pots with a bound of a natural latex so these plants they grown in these pots of my Nursery using peep free compost they’re pesticide free and most importantly plastic free so this is a brand new Coya pot which is recently otted this one is a year old so you can

See it starts to naturally break down you can plant these pots directly into the Garden or into containers and after 4 years they will eventually completely break down acting as a mulch to those beds and compost and containers so um I want to promote plants which are more

Adapted to the UK conditions so drought tolerance um low maintenance so that is my focus with this website over the next Year
