Rovinj is a destination increasingly visited by tourists who wish to enjoy various recreational activities while on vacation, primarily cycle-tourists.
There are currently three marked biking trails in the wider area of Rovinj: Rubinum, Vistrum and Limes, stretching in the total length of 74 km. At the end of June, the Tourist Board of the Town of Rovinj-Rovigno completed, in cooperation with the Native Museum of Rovinj, a project the purpose of which was to add value to a section of the existing Limes trail by turning it into a biking, hiking, gastro and educational trail called Basilica. The trail stretches from the Valalta region (the Basìlica valley), along the greater area of the Lim Channel, and ends in Rovinjsko Selo. It passes along several significant historical sites, i.e. the churches of St. Bartholomew, St. Christopher, St. Thomas and St. Protus, and intertwines with the former Kanfanar-Rovinj railroad route. Alongside this mainly asphalted trail, lovers of biking and hiking will have a chance to enjoy the protected natural beauty of the rich vegetation growing along the Lim Channel, as well as the landscapes abounding in vineyards as well as olive and fruit orchards, thus offering numerous tasting possibilities on agricultural estates, from agricultural products to wine and olive oil. The trail further passes along the abandoned Roman quarry, underneath two overpasses of the old Kanfanar-Rovinj railroad, and alongside the equestrian center. The most attractive location is definitely the view spot above the Lim Channel.
