Bradley Wiggins 2012 Sky Pinarello Dogma – just a great bike to ride – and seriously quick with it!
Fair to say 2012 was an epic year for British Cycling – Sir Bradley Wiggins took wins at Paris Nice, Tour of Romandie and Criterium de Dauphine, then crushes all to be the first British winner of the Tour de France then goes on to take gold in the individual time trial at he 2012 Olympics – a never to be repeated season.
In this video we take a close look at an ex Bradley Wiggins 2012 Sky Dogma Think 2.1 in it British Champion livery (and it wears it well…) then put it through its paces on the roads of the South East of England and discuss the team dynamics of Sky in 2012 lead by Dave Brailsford and Sean Yates with Wiggins as the number rider, though Chris Froome had a little something to say about that, plus Mark Cavendish (the worlds greatest sprinter) also fancied some stages for himself!
Fair to say the 2012 Bradley Wiggins team Sky season was the definition of epic…

Hi guys I’m Dan at vintage. org and today we are going to get out there and ride this epic 2012 pinell Dogma uh now this is an actual bike ridden by S Bradley Wiggins uh in the 2012 early season uh we are talking um vter Catalonia um Criterium to doofan to
Romand D Parry um three of those races he run uh on this bike or at least one of these bikes this would have been one of his team bikes with Team sky in that early 2012 season uh for the tour he did change to a black uh frame uh because he
Didn’t defend uh his British uh Road Race Championship that he won uh the year before um but this is uh the early 2012 season bike there’s a few details like seat post and things that you can tell um as to what uh what period it was
When it was with Team Sky uh I got this bike as a complete bike um uh and um apart from the wheels these have been swapped out uh the actual original wheels on a different bike um but everything else on this bike is as per sir Bradley Wiggins um and obviously
It’s an epic setup uh 53 up front he may well have had a 4 54 at times well but 53 up front uh an 1125 on the back obviously it’s Dura Ace Shimano um 10-speed throughout and no the crank hasn’t started delaminate and fall apart so that that hasn’t failed um it’s the
Early type of di2 you’ve got the external big battery cage on here as well but it all works fine nothing up with it um and uh yes take a moment to check out the epically cool super limited edition they only made literally a handful of them and this is the seat
That Brad actually Road um on this bike and at the to of France as well on the black bite um because several of them are onor that’s the one he actually rode uh I did speak to him to check that that was the case so epically cool everything
On this bike um now I did ride this as my uh regular bike for a couple of Seasons because fortunately uh Bradley Wiggins is the same high as me um but it is a punishing uh bike to ride uh it did take me at least one season to get used
To that seat to Bar drop angle uh and a lot of yoga as well so um apart from that yeah it is very very cool um obviously on here we also have um some um Continental tubular tires on here I think these are GP 4000 they are tubers
Uh and they are I think 21 mil or maybe 22 mil but they are pretty skinny um but on the road around here bit of a challenge but you know technically it’s going to make it go faster who knows anyway the Sun’s shining the bike’s about to fall over so let’s get out
There and Ride so this is quite a contrast a couple of weeks ago uh we were out there in the Tuscan Hills Riding laa on that gorgeous 63 Leno uh today we are out here on a pinell Dogma uh in the southeast of England although the Sun’s shining Italy was 32° this is about 10°
And my feet are numb so and I’m probably dribbling a little bit cuz my mouth is numb as well but we’ll forgive that uh but let’s talk about the Dogma uh now it’s no secret I love pinell dogmas I think they’re incredibly good bikes uh as I said before in the previous
Video If you’re looking at spending good money anything over £1,000 go out and buy a dogma and these think 21s they’re brilliant now obviously you know for a vintage bike Channel it be difficult talking about carbon um but I’m pretty sure we’ll all agree the color color way on this the red white
And blue scheme does make the Dogma look really really pretty um it’s a great bike to look at uh which is always important you know look good feel good um I’m not an enormous fan of the matte black carbon so uh this is H great to
See uh with a slight glimmer of metallic in the blue as well and we’re going to kick this off with a few controversial things to say first off the thing 2.1 I think is a better ride than an f8 or an F10 ah I’ve said it uh Now by that
There’s no doubt from the fa Al they’re faster bikes uh dogas really went through it in the uh in the Wind Tunnel um and uh pinell kind of perfected them and they are really really good but these thick 21s are just really lovely rid they were only a tiny bit slower
Than the later models uh but you know if I was going out there on a 250 km Grand Fondo and I had a choice between this 2.1 and an F10 I go with a 2.1 it’s could be a much more pleasant experience it’s a dream to ride despite these super
Skinny tires uh and the road quality here in the southeast of England um it’s just brilliant and uh you could see eat up mileage very quickly in fact for the couple of Seasons that I did ride this that’s one of my regular rides I I took a lot of kind of long
Distance 10 15 km K because it just it’s such a pleasant bike to eat up for kilometers on really really nice um that does everything perfectly and as always with Dogma geometry what goes up comes down again and these are just a master class for descending geometry something else you may not
Agree with but I think is true is I actually prefer uh 10speed dur HDI 2 to 11 and 12 I actually think it’s better I prefer the clinky clunkiness of it it feels much more positive uh maybe it’s cuz I do prefer a mechanical but for electronic shifting really like it plus
The parts don’t seem to explode in the same way that 11 and 12 speed J Ace do like to but that’ll be a subject of another video one thing I have realized about the setup of this Dogma is that the uh the rear cassette is in fact an 11:28 not
11:26 which is why it climbs so well so we’re on a long slow draggy part of today’s uh climbing ride uh and a perfect opportunity to chat about Bradley Wiggins and this stunning pinell dog of his now he’s a very complicated character Bradley Wiggins uh far too complicated to really
Get into on a short ride like this so I just want to focus on the incredible results of that 2012 uh year for team sky and Bradley Wiggins uh now team Sky itself what you got to remember at that point the UK we haven’t won a grand tour Ireland has we Haven
Won anything like that we’ve had notable results but the tour to France definitely has eluded us up until that point and Dave braford when he uh found of the show there uh dve bford when he uh created team Sky he set out that rather lavish promise at the time or at least it
Seemed that way of winning the tour to France within 5 years now he know he knew the only way he could do that was to get hold of Bradley Wiggins um which through uh a lot of negotiation with Garmin he did eventually do and uh in that 2011 obviously Brad crashed out broke
His collar bone um but later in the season there we saw him come second well sorry third technically but results second at the Vera espia with Chris F technically taken the win after coobo was disqualified for doping um and then we hit 2012 now that is a seminal season
For Wiggins now we’re talking about a guy who’s already won so much stuff multiple Olympic Golds stage wins all sorts loads and loads of stuff the guy is already a living legend at that point and then obviously he wins Parise that’s a benchmark he wins uh tour of romandy woo huge
Then Criterion into doofan that’s the PowerHouse right there and team sky going into 2012 T the France with air apparent on their backs they’re there to win now you’ve got the pairing in charge of brawood and sha Yates as director sportti and their mission is to win but
It isn’t quite as easy as that aside from the fact you’ve got the likes of Vincenzo Nali there waiting try and steal a win um you’ve got the complexities within the team now brownford and Yates they’re on a mission they’re there to be the first British
Team ever to win the Tour to France with a British rider that’s it absolute that’s the mission but of course that doesn’t take into account individual wider passions and what they want and how they want to achieve on their palares obviously we’ve got the world do documented tetet between Wiggins and fr
Um incidentally for those out there who wonder whether FR could have won um whilst F undoubtedly was a better climber uh that year there were an awful lot of time trial kilometers uh individual time trial kilometers in that Year’s Edition and uh without a doubt Wiggins was a far better time trialist
He won both of the main time trials and came second on the prologue um he would have put loads of time into FR no matter what and I think if FR had been allowed to escape especi on appli to Bell fuel um he probably would have taken a minute
And a half 2 minutes maybe but it wouldn’t have been enough let’s not forget Wiggins was not a slouch of climbing at that point he was a great climber he wasn’t an explosive climber more of a cadel ens you know he just grind his way up but he was no slouch
And he would have definitely won but also remember for that year they had Mark Cavendish in the rer as well now it seems a bit strange when your ultimate goal for your team uh is to win the Tour to front and then you rock up with the
World’s greatest Sprinter uh in the team now I think the reason why he got signed there probably a little bit of a mistake one of the few that brows have Mak but because in 2011 um Brad crashed out uh with a broken collar bone um I think at
That point bford thought I need a plan B the plan B was sprinting with Cavendish when cavendish’s contract and HDC went down um and I think that’s what he was thinking he didn’t realize at that point the point that he signed Cav that FR was about to turn into a grand tour winning
Killing machine um he but they didn’t know that at the time cuz FR was still suffering with that Bia illness that he had from South Africa so that’s why you end up on a super team that’s sole purpose is to win the Tour of France with the best time trialist in
The world riding with the best climber in the world and the best Sprinter in the world uh all fighting it out all with their own missions all with their own objectives um they hats off to fry uh sorry to uh uh Wiggins uh when they were going on that last Shan stage
Obviously uh you know Bradford and in the car Yates as well we’re super keing for everyone to huddle around Brad keep him safe get the wind get it across the line but you know Cav raises his arm in the team bus you know what about me I
Want to Sprint for it and you know it was down to Bradley Wiggins to say yeah Brad uh C’s right we’ve got to help him and it was incredible on that Sean at the 2012 t uh to see the yellow Jersey being worn by Bradley Wiggins uh leading
Out Mark CES on yet another win on the Sha’s l a truly epic year probably uh not to be repeated for some time of British cycling so I mentioned earlier what goes up has to come down and uh I’m just on this little kicker going up at the
Moment and there’s a fantastic sent the other side of it a little complex um and you have to be very aware car but it’s great fun here we go just going to get around a little roundabout first yeah that’s clear now we tuck fully and uh
Enjoy so I’m just at the end of the ride now no Cafe stop today because to be fair I’ve completely misjudged my clothing uh and all my extremities have gone numb and I want to get home and warm up um but that doesn’t detract uh from this uh Pinella Dogma written by
Bradley Wiggins in the 2012 season it’s a phenomenal bike um I just love it I mean yeah I should probably be riding this every day um it’s just exceptional uh as a road racing bike uh without compromising on uh quality of ride or Comfort it’s a ride you could just you
Know a bike you could ride for hours on end um without real fatigue or pain it’s lovely and it’s really really fast and good at what it does Weight Wise I think it’s about 7 1/2 kilo um I’ll pop it up on the screen now so you can see the uh
The weight of it um but uh you know it’s not too Porky uh despite the reputation that dogmas have uh ignore that they’re not fly weights but they’re certainly not heavyweights um but other than that uh I hope you enjoy the video uh I’m
Going to go inside a warm up now so do like and subscribe for anything that’s cool to do with vintage bikes thanks lot

Wow great overview amazing bike and history 😊 🚴🏻🥇😃 Pete
Oh those glory Team Sky days! I loved them. And a beautiful bike. Thanks, Dan.
That’s some email: “hey Sir Bradley… you put your bum on this saddle?” 🤣
Another top quality video
While I disagree with your opinion about Froome, | think he'd have won the Tour comfortably in 2012, I really enjoyed your review of this bike
Great bike!
PS: Slam your cleats all the way back. That will lower your seat height and improve power sustainability.
Wiggins had the srm crankset with the 10speed osymetric chainrings 😉
Luv the ride dude👍 Curious to know if the original swapped out wheels were shod with 22c tubulars🤟
What an amazing bike sir 👍
I just found your channel and can't wait to watch this video. Have you ridden a Colnago C40 before? Definitely need a review of that!
Hi Dan, I'm going to eventually get a vintage Dogma. I'm only 175 cm what frame size should I look out for mate? Kind regards Paul from Berlin.
