it’s been a huge year for BMW. the release of the R1300GS has taken our breath away, but not all for the same reason. For some it’s love at first sight and others it’s “the heck were they thinking?”

I still believe the R1250GS is the better buy at this point. So many great new features would be a huge value add. Apparently BMW feels the same way, because they have upped the cost of the 1300 (fully loaded) by 8-10k.

I hope the video helps you in your buyers journey and like always, leave a comment below and let me know what your choice is.

    2024 bmw r1300gsbmw r1300gs 2024

What’s going on guys today we are talking about why I still think the r1250gs is the better buy over the 1300 GS let’s get after it so there’s a ton of cool new features on this new bike and it does kind of look cool but it’s

Not my favorite look I’m going to get into that in a little bit you do have a ton of new cool features and definitely one of my favorite features is the keyless luggage that comes on this thing I’ve really been waiting for something like that for a while but it looks like

It’s going to be in plastic and not aluminum so that’s a bit of a disappointment there let’s get into some of the reasons why I think the 1250 is still a better buy than the 1300 one of the big things I think we’re all talking about is the looks on this bike because

It’s not what we expected I love personally the 1200 and 1250 look that aggressive mean big intimidating look I think it’s really incredible I think this graphic I stole from Tallyho Tech uh does it perfect Justice he’s talking here about how people absolutely love the older Defender compared to the newer

Defender uh and this is just kind of a comparison I think defin definitely you can see there’s some great Tech on this newer motorcycle but you’re giving up just a ton on those looks I would much rather be with that classic incredible Peak look of the GS which I really think

Is the 1250 and uh you know just like the defender they kind of got away from that even though there’s better Tech it’s not necessarily looking better this is my GS 1250 and I absolutely love this thing I love how beefy and beastly it is

It’s just amazing love the look of it I think this is Peak GS right here although this thing does have some pretty cool Tech I love those new blinkers you can’t get away from the fact that it looks like a nc750 if I’m buying a luxury motorcycle

For this much money I don’t expect it to look like a much less expensive Honda lower-end touring motorcycle so one comment that I get often when I’m riding this bike is everyone’s like wo that thing is huge and it looks intimidating and that’s what I love about it I mean

It doesn’t look like something everybody can ride and then once you ride it it is it’s really easy to ride so another thing for me that’s a deal breaker is really rideability I’m not saying that the new features on the new GS are bad I think they’re all really great

Improvements and I think that things like uh adaptive cruise control that’s probably amazing uh the blinkers in the handguards and there’s a ton of other features that look really really great I hear the quick shifter is much much smoother but for me all of these things

Are definitely going to make it a better road bike which is normally what I do but there are plenty of people that take these things Offroad and those features aren’t necessarily going to help you Offroad if anything it’s just one more expensive thing you’re going to have to

Fix if you lay it down at the end of the day who really cares what it looks like on paper because really what’s important is how it rides the GS has actually had more torque in the adventure motorcycle lineup in many many years but you know people still prefer the KTM because they

Say that they love the throttle delivery so and you know it seems to be a much faster motorcycle and more responsive in the throttle but the GS is absolutely incredible to ride and I love it I wouldn’t choose another motorcycle in this lineup I think this has got to be

My number one pick and still is my number one pick after the 1300 GS a lot of people are saying that once you spec these things completely out or if you want the green model that’s completely specked out you’re looking at upwards of $330,000 for this motorcycle if their

Goal was to Target a much younger generation of people that are geared more towards the multi Strada they’ve done a really good job at this because I do think it has a much sleeker clean look it looks less intimidating and easier for people to just jump on and go

For a spin if that’s what they’ve been trying to do I think they’ve done a great job and they’ve given us all of the tech that we could ever possibly want on a motorcycle it’s just not my cup of tea and the look really kills it

For me another thing that is a big killer for me on this bike is the price tag this bike is an everyday rider for me but I can imagine some people that just have it sitting most of the time in their garage only use it for short trips

Or weekend rides here and there that is a big price tag to be paying for a bike and that’s the base model if you’re going to go ahead and upgrade it and have all of these other features if you want to do like a trophy Edition or if

You want to have have the um adjustable cruise control you know all of these things are going to be extra that you’re looking at over $30,000 on this thing before you’re said and done that is a huge price to had to be paying for a lot of features that I really don’t think

Have changed a ton the rideability and the features that I want from the motorcycle so for me the 1250 is still where I’m staying and I honestly feel like it just opened up the market the used market for anybody out there looking to jump into BMWs and grab you a

1250 at a little bit lower of a price point so I did leave out a number of great features on the 1300 like the uh adjustable seat height control and as well the blind spot detection which I think are great but like I said earlier I don’t think it’s enough to make me

Switch from the 1250 I really love the 1250 at the end of the day too much Tech just kind of becomes a little bit of a burden on a motorcycle I don’t want my bike stopping or hitting the brakes by itself I kind of worry what that feature

Looks like so in my completely biased opinion if you out there in the market I still think the r1250gs is the motorcycle to go for it is my dream bike it is still my number one motorcycle and it is still my number one purchase in this lineup of Adventure motorcycles so

Hope this video helped you guys go out there and grab you a 1250 GS or if the 1300 is more your taste go for it I will be sticking with my r1250gs thanks for watching don’t forget to like And subscribe that’s it for American abroad

We will see you guys next time ride safe and we will see you on the pavement

    1. I was skeptical about the looks of the 1300 GS. I was able to see the Trophy and the green one (whatever they call that one) at Barber Motorsports a couple weekends ago. They look better in person. The pics and vids don’t really do them justice. I am excited about some of the new tech, specifically the adaptive cruise and adaptive ride height, since I’m short. I like the idea of the bike being lighter with more hp. That being said, the 1250 GS Rallye that I have money down on just arrived at my dealer. Like you, the 1200/1250 body style has always been my dream bike, and the Rallye colorway is my favorite. I may (read: probably will) end up with a 1300, but I’m gonna enjoy the 1250 for a while first. Good video! I can’t believe I wasn’t subscribed to your channel. I am now.

    2. I have a 1250 and love the cleaner lines and lighter weight of the 1300. For off road use they have the Trophy. I priced a 1300 option 719 on the bmw configurator, $28k. You can turn off some of the tech if you don'tlike it or just buy a Trophy model….I'm not ready to upgrade but gladly will in a year or 2.

    3. I think the 1300 model is a nice change and evolution to the GS model. I went back and forth on whether I should buy a 1250 or wait for the new 1300. I went through the same dilemma in 2012 when the new 2013 design was being released. I chose both model ending years and didn’t regret the decisions. BMW is in the business of selling motorcycles and for their 100 year anniversary I think the new GS is a great change for their future. I love my 2023 GS and I don’t regret my decision. I’m sure the new 1300 will make their new owners happy too.

    4. I knew I saw this design somewhere else earlier. You're right – that's NC750. Have exactly the same feelings about the 1300. Too small, not aggressive enough for tough terrain. But I guess it was done by purpose to get some new riders that thought that previous generations were "too much" for them. But you can't make everybody happy. Even though I love new tech in 1300 I still preferer the bulky 1200/1250. Great video, subbed!

    5. Almost apples to oranges cmmments. The Vario bags on the 1200/1250 are plastic (with decorative aluminum covers). Aluminum bags are upgrades. All the "aggressive comparison" photos are 1250's with crash bars and/or 1250 Adventures. Let's revisit when the 1300 GSA comes out. Agree with the price tag comments. Whew!

    6. Clearly you have not ridden a 1300GS or driven an old Defender or a New one. Yes the 1250 is a great bike, but will look, ride and seem dated very soon. You mention all the tech being a problem for off road, if you look at the options you can spec a 1300 for off road. In reality most GS owners rarely go seriously off road anyway. The Brake warning/intervention etc. can all be turned off, the technology on this bike is on another level . With handling both on and off road improved considerably. The pricing is hardly any different to the old model.

    7. Looks wise I love 1250 for sure , but I guess text wise I like the new 1300 .
For me I wish there is an option of the looks of 1250 with tech of 1300 and 1300 engine and also 1300 weight .

    8. When I get on my 1250 gs it’s like getting ready for a serious adventure the 1300 is like getting ready to go to the office . It’s no longer a adventure bike . 🤪

    9. I was looking on BMW web site, the 1300 is almost $6,000 less than the 1250, I am missing something in here?. You are saying that the 1300 is more expensive, but on the BMW web site show the opposite. Thank you!!!

    10. Small, ugly, cheap looking. Demo bike broke down after barely 20 miles which sealed it for me. 1250 stays and I dont feel like I particularly have an 'old model' The new one is improved in some areas, but as a total package…… no thanks. Its more sport than big GS adv tourer and not at all what I personally wanted but no doubt will be a big hit with short people or those lacking in confidence around larger bikes, in essence a smaller very slightly sharper GS with clever new gadgets. A big leap ahead and worth the money….. ? Hmmm you decide…

    11. I have tje dsa rallye 22 my and i agree with you peak gs is late 1250 as most issues ironed out also if i got the 1300 it would be the gsa also i would not pay for electric screen adaptive cc or blind spit mirrors also tje auto lowering suspension would not be on my list.
