Hi guys my name is Sophie I’m the group Marketing Manager for syamore and this is my journey from Rookie to Ryder [Applause] He got the pet gauge there tell you got petrol neutral there but also there this one will tell you what gear you’re in okay so there’s six gears on this so welcome to Sycamore rookie to Rider a series in which our head of business David and marketing manager Sophie are going to learn

Completely how to ride a motorcycle a journey full of Thrills but here’s Sophie to tell you a little bit more about it within a journey of learning to ride a motorcycle there’s obviously different stages our first stage when we arrived here on day one was sitting on a

Motorcycle on a rolling road so it’s the first time I’ve ever sat on a bike um it’s a very strange experience you feel like there’s still possibility you could fall off even though it literally is impossible to fall off the Rolling Road the bike’s completely upright stabilized

But there’s still this fear inside you of what if I do something wrong six and then you press your gray bottom first it was David’s turn time to learn the basics of motorcycle clutch control on the Rolling Road with very highly trained instructor Julie [Applause] Looks like David’s clearly got the of it quite quickly but let’s see how Sophie FES with clutch Control nearly there Sophie just keep that Concentration fantastic effort from both Sophie and David which means it was time for step two so the first day was just about getting to grips with the bike on what we call the pad which is only a piece of concrete I can describe as the size of a

Netball cour and that’s just your basic learning to be able to take the bike from here to Here Without stalling without falling off dropping the bike the side I can stop it all of the basic Come can you just second night now now remember Sophie keep it composed remember everything Judy taught you on the Rolling Road that e clutch Control not to worry Sophie it’s easily done we got there in the end though didn’t we and once he’d finally got the stand up it was time for David to practice that clutch control on the Pad You and now the time that Sophie and David had been desperately waiting for time to hop on the bikes on the pad and finally start learning the basics of maneuverability after a quick lesson from Julie of course and this time it was David’s turn [Applause] First looks like David got the hang of that pretty quickly there you go Sophie he set the bar high now it’s time for you to have a [Applause] [Applause] Go so my role at Sycamore is group marketing manager and that entails looking after our motorad marketing so we’ve embarked on this journey in our bid to learn more about motorcycling and there really is no better way than being able to ride yourself you can relate to

It in a completely different way we’re here to market the product to people but unless you’ve really felt that experience of sitting on a motorcycle and riding a motorcycle it’s hard to explain what that feels like so this journey has really aided Us in understanding that emotion and I can’t

Stress how much it is an emotional experience not only when you’re learning to ride but after you’ve passed every time you get on a motorcycle you still have that feeling um it’s exciting but you do also get that little bit nervous it’s it’s a it’s an activity that makes

Your heart race and that’s what you love about it so this journey definitely definitely will bring you that emotional side whether it’s us celebr ing or having those moments where we’re questioning is this for us but it’s a journey that’s every piece of it is so important because piece together it

Gives you an understanding that you could never explain just a true experience having now learned the basics of maneuverability and riding around the pad it was time to take it to the next level and get out the yellow cones to try and do some weaving exercises to practice steering control of course

Again after a quick lesson from Julie so you get to the end you’re looking over at the Vans you go around you’re looking back towards the Hedge it was time to start their engines and have a go at this weaving exercise and after a quick complimentary stall they were ready to go sort Of and just like a Mario Kart race they were riding round and around the pad to get that feel back for the bikes before going through the yellow Cones and after a polite reminder that these bikes don’t come with stabilizers and I let the clutch out before I was in neutral and then it went forwards and to the side and I couldn’t stop it they were ready to move the yellow cones closer together and try some more complex maneuvering So after a fun and successful day one it was time to head home and get ready for what the following day had in store for them picking up the pace a bit carry on day two it was time for Sophie and David to meet Ian their second instructor of this experience and an

Instructor with over 30 years of riding Experience sprocket it so the chain sprocket is here and that BS through like a rod and then there’s a series of Cs on this Rod okay think of them as my so BMW Rider training is a motorcycle training school which specializes in all levels of learning to ride a motorcycle

Improving those skills and even as far as taking your Advanced motorcycle test so it’s the One-Stop shop relating to anything of improvement of skills on motorcycles um from complete beginner we can offer a CBT um two-day course goes from nothing never ridden a motorcycle before um where we can learn to ride in

A small group um there’s only two people to a group at any time that’s our maximum group size um all the way through to taking their test um and then going on to learn greater skills which can be done in a two to1 or a one toone basis separate products there’s an

Engine and a gearbox a bike it was day two of rookie to Rider but Sophie and David’s concentration faces were very much still prominent as they were about to face step two of learning how to ride a motorcycle they would be taking their bikes outside the pad very shortly and

Learning how to control them at higher Paces as well as navigating Junctions but before doing so it was time for a lesson of expertise and biking wisdom from Ian himself before hopping on the bikes and getting a feel for them after night sleep ready to then face step Two have wind screens open must be down so to start off with they have hopped on their likes and hit the pad for a quick familiarization Session Having now familiarized themselves with the bikes again after that night’s sleep and getting their confidence back with balancing and moving off Ian was super Keen to get Sophie and David out on the roadway to learn how to navigate Junctions and control the bike at higher Paces however before so there were still

A few more basic controls they needed to learn luckily Ian had the perfect exercise and a demonstration lined up to show Them and with a quick stopping and starting demonstration over from it was time for David and Sophie to put this into practice oh and for David to test the Horn of Course And use the clutch at the same time as trying to operate the indicator done Sophie and David were finally just about ready to take the g310 RS off the pad and hit the roadway to pick up the pace but of course what are the benefits of learning with BMW Rider training biggest

Thing is volume of time on the bike um as a tradition um most training schools do 25 hours from zero skills to full test um we double that it’s 50 hours so if you came in on one of our 7-Day courses which starts you from zero skill

Never ridden a motorcycle before and by day seven you could be fully licensed and riding a motorcycle that tuition time that course length is 50 hours that’s a lot of time to in to grow those skills and put it all together we operate on a largely intensive basis so

The coures Run um sequential days um they could be broken into elements where CBT is done separate to the rest of it um but realistically it’s it’s intensifying that training putting it all together so that we’re building on skills day in day out and you’re really growing together and settling with it

This is a motorcycle riding course with tests and this is one of the large separations from a um generic motorcycle training school we teach riding skills throughout all the way through the course um the tests are kind of the bonus at the end if you can understand

Your vulnerability as a road user on today’s roads riding a motorcycle and deliver that as a performance to an examiner so just ride as you were with your instructor that will get you through your test and after a quick chat in the classroom with Ian Sophie and David got themselves suited and booted

Got back on the g310 RS and hit that roadway to practice Junction discipline and that Lifesaver glance over their Shoulders [Applause] and after that successful and fun training session out on the roadway Sophie and David headed back to the training center feeling less like rookies and more like Riders ready for the next level of this training Course
