A dry forecast and a whole day free meant thoughts turning to the Yorkshire Dales. This is a great little loop of about 43 miles, starting from the village of Gargrave and taking in some classic quiet lanes and some of the stunning views on offer in this part of the country. It really is a cycling paradise (if you don’t mind a few hills!).

Felt like the perfect distance for a cold winter day ride but this would be a stunning route any time of the year.

    Happy cycling folks!

Hi folks I hope you’re really well welcome to welcome back to the beautiful yales and uh few miles into the bike ride started in gargrave and just coming into Malon would you look at that malum Cove up in the distance we’re going up the left side

Today and uh the Mighty God El scar just sneaking and snaking across to the right beautiful day to be out it’s cold we’ve got ice around the signs are out but uh bit of careful riding up in this uh absolute cycling Paradise right I need to go and catch up

With the in see you in a minute well the sign at the bottom says 14% uh feels sleeper in places but what a view of M Cove from this climb absolutely stunning Limestone Shear drop and [Applause] uh the river comes straight out of the bottom it’s a beautiful walk up for mum

Actually up to the cove and back in the day it used to be fairly quiet it’s busy today and uh I think Instagram probably has a lot to do with that anyway it’s really kicking up and I need my hands [Applause] back almost at the top and uh what a

View what a hill this is too I always thought hybrid bik is like the some halfway between we you like the regulations don’t allow that no it does as long as you got a license okay just uh picked up Silverdale Road and some stunning views of penig Gant just coming up to

Uh the junction here and we’re now dropping down a little bit of a climb back up and then uh heading over to Halton Gil and the last time I was on this road it was a lot hotter than it is today we reckon it’s probably about freezing

Uh maybe minus oneus two in the shade with a windchill but uh boy is it a stunning day to be up in the Beautiful yores Well I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again then again is uh mighty fell it’s the smallest of the Three Peaks uh just over 2,000 ft 2,100 something but uh the way it Looms on the other side over hotney riblon though and the cags

At the top and just the shape of the the fell quite sort of sinks like it’s uh it’s an absolute classic of the dals and this road behind penan is such a treat cycle especially on the day like this it need to catch up with the in

Right down to Halton Gill take a ride and find some Lunch no retirement place don’t know if I’ll make it till then cuz I made a mess and I my don’t want to give up don’t know if I do I to make this world better than when it came Oh Heaven I on Earth heaven on Earth we could have heaven on Earth if we wanted to the Oceans Rise and Fall no pushing that’s too small to make the biggest way make the biggest way Heaven Oh Heaven on Heaven on Heaven on Oh Heaven Oh Heaven on Heaven on Heaven on Oh Heaven on

Earth Oh Heaven on Earth heav we could have heaven on Earth if we wanted Oh Heaven on Earth if we wanted we could have heav on Earth if we wanted well that such a fun descent it always is uh Down in the Valley now just uh skirting alongside the river skurfer I

Think and uh heading for kettlewell which will be today’s lunch stop I won’t tell the viewers what Ian’s just [Laughter] said but it was uh quite controversial and quite funny as well man this is what it’s all about it’s quiet roads amazing visitors they not too far to the

Cafe few years you have an AI one that can yell back at you don’t yell at me just pasted uh KY CRA there and amazing Cafe stop down in C well the only drawback was uh no indoor seating so it’s like speed eating your uh sausage and egg

B get back on the bikes to warm up it’s kind of going in and out of the Sun at the moment and you really feel the temperature drop when you’re out of the sun about 40 m in maybe three or four to go Happy Days well folks made it back safe and

Sound to the car and what a fantastic ride that was uh about 43 mies in total maybe a little bit more uh based in or starting from gargrave uh free parking if anyone’s up this way and um straight out towards malum and then up the side of malum Cove

What a climb that is I think that’s probably the second time I’ve done that um but uh the first time was probably about 30 years ago and found it a little bit more difficult today uh but just an amazing clim views we’re just out of this world today uh heading across um up

Above stainforth and then picking up um forget the name of the road but up to to Halton Gill uh skirting around the back of Penny again it’s just such a fantastic road to uh to cycle um if you can work that road into any of your routes up here it’s um always delivers

It’s just a fantastic part of The Dales to to be on a uh on a bike I think uh dropping down and we worked our way um along the valley dived into kettlewell for lunch and um very very cold lunch and it would have been nice to sit

Inside and kind of sit next to a in fire uh for an hour and just kind of deaw but um yeah a quick lunch stop and then a really really nice ride quite lumpy just undulating I suppose uh back to to Gar grave so it’s been a fantastic day out

Making you know use of this little dry spell that we’re getting uh it’s always a trade-off in the UK when it gets dry in the winter the temperature really drops and it’s been really cold today um you know bitingly cold when you’re out of the Sun but uh boy is it worth it

Just to get out get a few miles in bit a banter uh sausage sandwich I mean what more can you ask up in the The Amazing York I’ve said it so many times before but if you get the opportunity to uh come bring your bike and and do a few

Bike rides around this part of the world please do it’s an absolute Delight to uh uh to explore this area on two wheels but uh yeah that’s enough offlink for me uh thanks as always for watching if you’ve made it this far in the video um please do consider liking subscribing if

You be so kind that really helps me out and uh according to what YouTube tells me you’re probably not a subscriber to my channel and it would be great to have you for L long but uh otherwise please stay safe take care and happy cycling I’ll see you on the next one Bye

    1. Anyone that can get out and ride those hills… had better never complain about being poor.
Add the fact that you so eloquently share your travels, spreads that wealth.

    2. Lovely video. I've actually never gone down Halton Gill….always up. That's a climb! There is a lovely but tough climb you just missed when you turn off the valley rd after the ride along the river. As you turn right you can go up by side of whst used to be the Woolpack in tv series Emmerdale. That's a beauty. Quite steep but lovely views
