Greetings brothers and sisters in the Lord,  welcome to week 37 of our oral Bible reading.   This week’s message is “The Nativity 2,000 Years  Ago, and Christmas Hymns Sung Today.” Join us in   praying and asking for God’s blessings throughout  the holiday season. Dear Lord, we thank You for

This time during the holiday seasons. Lord, we  ask for blessings, and let there be love and joy,   Lord, and peace to all men and good will. Lord,  please bless us during this oral Bible reading,

And God bless all my brothers and sisters in the  Lord, in Jesus name. Amen. O come All ye faithful,   joyful and triumphant. Hark the herald, angels  sing, glory to the newborn King. O little town   of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie. O holy  night! The stars are brightly shining, it is the

Night of the dear Savior’s birth. The Nativity  story about Jesus’ birth began more than 2,000   years ago, and it continues to this day. Our faith  has brought us this far, and our faith in Jesus,   our Savior is a result of our God-given faith.  What has kept our faith alive so far? Christmas is

Celebrated by us, and traditional Christmas hymns  are sung. Christmas songs can be either religious   or secular. Singing songs is what they are meant  for, and hymns are songs that are religious.   Christmas is a time of love, peace on earth, and  the joy that comes from family gatherings. It is

The time of year for giving and gathering around  the fireplace to share our warmth and comfort.   When we hear about the birth of Jesus and the way  He came to save us, we all feel something special.

Christmas has become more meaningful for us all  because of the birth of baby Jesus thanks to those   special feelings. Discovering God’s love in our  hearts, discovering a deeper love as expressed   by Jesus, and experiencing the warmth of His love  at Christmas time is something to cherish. Now, I

Would like to read from the Bible about the birth  of Jesus and the Nativity. An angel tells about   the birth of Jesus. One month later God sent the  angel Gabriel to the town of Nazareth in Galilee

With a message for a virgin named Mary. She was  engaged to Joseph from the family of King David.   The angel greeted Mary and said, “You are truly  blessed! The Lord is with you.” Mary was confused

By the angel’s words and wondered what they meant.  Then the angel told Mary, “Don’t be afraid! God is   pleased with you, and you will have a Son. His  name will be Jesus. He will be great and will be

Called the Son of God Most High. The Lord God will  make Him King, as His ancestor David was. He will   rule the people of Israel forever, and His kingdom  will never end.” Mary asked the angel, “How can

This happen? I am not even married!” The angel  answered, “The Holy Spirit will come down to you,   and God’s power will come over you. So your Child  will be called the Holy Son of God. Your relative

Elizabeth is also going to have a son, even  though she is old. No one thought she could ever   have a baby, but in three months she will have a  son. Nothing is impossible for God!” Mary said,

“I am the Lord’s servant! Let it happen as  you have said.” And the angel left her. Luke   1:26-38. This is how Jesus Christ was born. A  young woman named Mary was engaged to Joseph   from King David’s family. But before they were  married, she learned that she was going to have

A baby by God’s Holy Spirit. Joseph was a good  man, and did not want to embarrass Mary in front   of everyone. So he decided to quietly call off  the wedding. While Joseph was thinking about this,

An angel from the Lord appeared to him in a dream.  The angel said, “Joseph, the baby that Mary will   have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry  her. Then after her Baby is born, name Him Jesus,

Because He will save His people from their  sins.” So the Lord’s promise came true, just as   the prophet had said, “A virgin will have a baby  boy, and He will be called Emmanuel,” which means   “God is with us.” After Joseph woke up, he and  Mary were soon married, just as the Lord’s angel

Had told him to do. Matthew 1:18-24. About that  time Emperor Augustus gave orders for the names   of all the people to be listed in record books.  These first records were made when Quirinius was   governor of Syria. Everyone had to go to their  own hometown to be listed. So Joseph had to leave

Nazareth in Galilee and go to Bethlehem in Judea.  Long ago Bethlehem had been King David’s hometown,   and Joseph went there because he was from  David’s family. Mary was engaged to Joseph   and traveled with him to Bethlehem. She was soon  going to have a baby, and while they were there,

She gave birth to her first-born Son. She dressed  Him in baby clothes and laid Him on a bed of hay,   because there was no room for them in the inn.  That night in the fields near Bethlehem some

Shepherds were guarding their sheep. All at  once an angel came down to them from the Lord,   and the brightness of the Lord’s glory flashed  around them. The shepherds were frightened. But   the angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I have good news  for you, which will make everyone happy. This very

Day in King David’s hometown a Savior was born  for you. He is Christ the Lord. You will know   who He is, because you will find Him dressed in  baby clothes and lying on a bed of hay.” Suddenly

Many other angels came down from heaven and joined  in praising God. They said: “Praise God in heaven!   Peace on earth to everyone who pleases God.”  After the angels had left and gone back to heaven,   the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go  to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told

Us about.” They hurried off and found Mary  and Joseph, and they saw the Baby lying on a   bed of hay. When the shepherds saw Jesus, they  told His parents what the angel had said about   Him. Everyone listened and was surprised. But  Mary kept thinking about all this and wondering

What it meant. As the shepherds returned to their  sheep, they were praising God and saying wonderful   things about Him. Everything they had seen and  heard was just as the angel had said. Eight days   later Jesus’ parents did for Him what the Law  of Moses commands. And they named Him Jesus,

Just as the angel had told Mary when he promised  she would have a Baby. Luke 2:1-21. When Jesus was   born in the village of Bethlehem in Judea, Herod  was king. During this time some wise men from the

East came to Jerusalem and said, “Where is the  Child born to be King of the Jews? We saw His   star in the east and have come to worship Him.”  When King Herod heard about this, he was worried,   and so was everyone else in Jerusalem. Herod  brought together the chief priests and the

Teachers of the Law of Moses and asked them,  “Where will the Messiah be born?” They told him,   “He will be born in Bethlehem, just as the  prophet wrote, ‘Bethlehem in the land Of Judea,   you are very important among the towns of Judea.  From your town will come a Leader, who will be

Like a shepherd for My people Israel.’ ” Herod  secretly called in the wise men and asked them   when they had first seen the star. He told them,  “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the

Child. As soon as you find Him, let me know. I  also want to go and worship Him.” The wise men   listened to what the king said and then left. And  the star they had seen in the east went on ahead

Of them until it stopped over the place where the  Child was. They were thrilled and excited to see   the star. When the men went into the house and  saw the Child with Mary, His mother, they knelt

Down and worshiped Him. They took out their gifts  of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and gave them to   Him. Later they were warned in a dream not to  return to Herod, and they went back home by   another road. Matthew 2:1-12. Joy to the world,  and I pray that there will be joy throughout

The New Year. Throughout the world, people sing  Christmas carols and hymns. My online encyclopedia   lists 33 countries that traditionally celebrate  Christmas and the birth of Jesus. Most of the   songs that people sing are in their own language  in other countries, and they all have different

Christmas songs than our own. They are not singing  our traditional Christmas songs that have been   translated from English to other languages.  Today, the Nativity story is still being told,   and the world continues to sing Christmas carols  and hymns. Get in the Christmas spirit and holiday

Spirit by singing Christmas carols and hymns with  your family and friends. Here are some of our most   popular American Christmas carols and hymns sung  in English. ‘Away in a Manger’, written in 1882,   is a Christmas carol first published in the late  nineteenth century and used widely throughout the

English-speaking world. The carol’s popularity has  led to numerous variations in its wording. Martin   Luther, (born November 10, 1483) was thought to  be the composer of this song, and his title was,   “Cradle Song.” Away in a manger, No crib for His  bed. The little Lord Jesus, Laid down His sweet

Head. The stars in the bright sky, Looked  down where He lay. The little Lord Jesus,   Asleep on the hay. ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ is  a Christmas carol written by Phillips Brooks based   on Micah 5:2 in the Holy Bible. He was inspired by  visiting Bethlehem in Jerusalem in 1865. The poem

For his church was written by him three years  later, and his organist Lewis Redner added the   music. As Lewis notes, an angel whispering in  my ear awakened me from my late night sleep.   I took a piece of music paper and wrote down  the melody of the tune as it is now. Then I

Filled in the harmony on Sunday morning before  going to church. O little town of Bethlehem,   How still we see thee lie. Above thy deep and  dreamless sleep, The silent stars go by, Yet,   in thy dark streets shineth, The everlasting  Light. The hopes and fears of all the years,

Are met in thee tonight. ‘Silent Night’ (German)  is a popular Christmas carol composed in 1818   by Franz Xaver Gruber, with lyrics by  Joseph Mohr, in a small town in Salzburg,   Austria. The first performance was on December  24th, 1818, and the first publication was in

1833. The song was first recorded in 1905 and has  remained a popular success, appearing in films and   multiple successful recordings, as well as being  quoted in other musical compositions. In 1859,   John Freeman Young, who was serving at Trinity  Church in New York City, wrote and published the

English translation that is most frequently  sung today. Several recordings of ‘Silent   Night’ have reached the record charts in various  countries. Silent night, holy night. All is calm,   all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.  Holy Infant so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly

Peace. Sleep in heavenly peace. ‘O Holy Night’  is a sacred song for Christmas performances.   Originally based on a French-language poem by  poet Placide Cappeau, written in 1843. A parish   priest persuaded poet Placide Cappeau to write  a Christmas poem after his church’s organ had

Recently been renovated to celebrate the event.  Soon afterwards, in that same year, Adolphe Adam   composed the music. The song was premiered in 1847  by the opera singer Emily Laurey. O holy night,   the stars are brightly shining. It is the night  of the dear Savior’s birth. Long lay the world,

In sin and error pining. Till He appeared and  the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the   weary world rejoices. For yonder breaks, a new and  glorious morn. Fall on your knees, oh, hear the

Angel voices. O night divine, O night when Christ  was born. O night divine, O night when Christ was   born. ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ is an English  Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the   collection “Hymns and Sacred Poems”. The carol,  based on Luke 2:14, tells of an angelic chorus

Singing praises to God. The first verse describes  the announcement of Jesus’s birth. Hark the herald   angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King! Peace on  earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.”   Joyful, all ye nations rise. Join the triumph  of the skies, With the angelic host proclaim:

“Christ is born in Bethlehem.” Hark! The herald  angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!” ‘O Come,   All Ye Faithful’, is a Christmas carol that  has been attributed to various authors,   and it was composed in 1744. John Francis Wade  printed the first source for the song, in 1751,

Which was in Latin. In 1841, the English Catholic  priest Frederick Oakeley translated the hymn into   English as ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’, which became  widespread in English-speaking countries. O Come   All Ye Faithful, Joyful and triumphant, O come  ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him,

Born the King of Angels; O come, let us adore Him,  O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore   Him, Christ the Lord. ‘What Child Is This?’ Is  a Christmas carol with lyrics written by William   Chatterton Dix in 1865 and set to the tune of  “Greensleeves”, a traditional English folk song,

In 1871. Isaiah 9:6-7 is what it is based on. The  carol focuses on the Adoration of the Shepherds   who come to see Jesus during the Nativity. The  questions posed in the lyrics reflect what the   shepherds were possibly pondering to themselves  when they encountered Jesus, with the rest of the

Carol providing a response to their questions.  What Child is this who, laid to rest, On Mary’s   lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems  sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This,   this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and  angels sing; Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The

Babe, the Son of Mary. ‘It Came Upon a Midnight  Clear’ is a 1849 poem and Christmas carol written   by Edmund Sears, pastor of the Unitarian Church  in Wayland, Massachusetts. Sears is said to have   written these words at the request of his friend,  William Parsons Lunt, pastor of United First

Parish Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, for Lunt’s  Sunday school. In 1850, Sears’ lyrics were set to   the tune ‘Carol’, written for the poem at Sears’  request in the same year. Richard Storrs Willis,   who trained under Felix Mendelssohn, was the  composer. It came upon the midnight clear,

That glorious song of old, from angels bending  near the earth, To touch their harps of gold:   “Peace on the earth, goodwill to men From heavens  all gracious King!” The world in solemn stillness   lay To hear the angels sing. ‘God Rest You  Merry, Gentlemen’ is an English traditional

Christmas carol. An early version of this carol  is found in an anonymous manuscript dating from   the 1650s. Some sources claim that the carol  dates back as far as the 16th century. The   earliest known printed edition of the carol is  in a broadsheet dated to circa 1760. The historic

Meaning of the phrase “God rest you merry,”  is ‘May God grant you peace and happiness’;   the Oxford English Dictionary records uses of  this phrase from 1534 onwards. God rest ye merry,   gentlemen. Let nothing you dismay. Remember,  Christ, our Savior Was born on Christmas

Day. To save us all from Satan’s power, When we  were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy,   Comfort and joy. O tidings of comfort and joy.  ‘Joy to the World’ is an English Christmas carol.

    It was written in 1719 by the English minister  and hymn writer Isaac Watts, and its lyrics are a   Christian reinterpretation of Psalm 98. The carol  is usually sung to an 1848 arrangement by the   American composer Lowell Mason. Joy to the world,  the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven  and nature sing, And Heaven and nature sing,   And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing. ‘The  First Noel,’ is a traditional English Christmas   carol with Cornish origins, most likely from the  early modern period, although possibly earlier.

Its current form was first published in “Carols  Ancient and Modern” (1823) and Gilbert and Sandys   “Carols” (1833), both of which were edited  by William Sandys and arranged and edited by   Davies Gilbert. Noel means Christmas Carol.  The First Noel, the Angels did say, Was to

Certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay.  In fields where they lay, keeping their sheep,   On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel,  Noel, Noel, Noel. Born is the King of Israel!   ‘We Three Kings’ is a Christmas carol that was  written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857. At the

Time of composing the carol, Hopkins served as the  rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport,   Pennsylvania. He wrote the carol for a Christmas  pageant that was taking place in New York City. It   was the first widely popular Christmas carol  written in America. The Carol is about the

Biblical Magi who visited Jesus in a house when  he was a child. (Matthew 2:1). He was honored with   gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh by them  some time after the Nativity. We three kings of   Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar. Field  and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder

Star. O Star of wonder, star of night, Star  with royal beauty bright, Westward leading,   still proceeding, Guide us to thy Perfect Light.  ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ (originally known as   “Carol of the Drum”) is a popular Christmas song  written by American composer Katherine Kennicott

Davis in 1941. In the lyrics, the singer recounts  his childhood experience of being summoned by the   Magi to the Nativity of Jesus as a poor young  boy. Without a gift for the Infant, the little   drummer boy played his drum with approval from  Jesus’ mother, Mary, recalling, “I played my

Best for Him” and “He smiled at me”. “The Little  Drummer Boy” has been recorded by many artists.   I counted 20 artists in my online encyclopedia.  In 1968, it was broadcast as a television special   in America Nationwide. Bethlehem and the Nativity  are where the story eventually leads us. In 1976,

A sequel was broadcasted. Come they told me,  pa rum pum pum pum. A new born King to see,   pa rum pum pum pum. Our finest gifts we bring,  pa rum pum pum pum. To lay before the King, pa

Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,  So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum, When we come.   “Mary, Did You Know?” This is a Christmas song  addressing Mary, the mother of God, with lyrics

Written by Mark Lowry in 1984 and music written  by Buddy Greene in 1991. Over the years, the song   has been recorded by hundreds of artists across  multiple genres and has become a modern Christmas   classic. Several recordings have reached the top  ten on the Billboard R&B and Holiday charts. Mary,

Did you know that your Baby Boy would one day walk  on water. Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy   would save our sons and daughters? Did you know  that your Baby Boy has come to make you new? This

Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.  Love, peace, and joy are bound to arrive at your   doorstep this holiday season. Merry Christmas,  and have a Happy New Year. Get your Bibles,   get your pens and papers, and write down the  Scriptures you find to read at a later time as we

Turn in our Bibles simultaneously without flipping  through the pages. Be looking for miracles, signs,   and wonders; such as the miracle of the birth of  Jesus, and the miracles we see day to day. And   let the Holy Spirit lead you and teach you through  the Bible which is the authoritative word of God.

And now, okay, I had to make a few adjustments  here. Now we’re ready, and I think we’re going   to go right about here. Oh boy, is that is that  what I want been doing this for a week or two,

But I think it might be here in between. And I  thought it was going to be back this way about the   same amount of pages, but here we’re at; let’s do  the first one. Because we’re at another miracle,

Sign, or wonder. Mark the introduction page to  the gospel of Mark. And I’m going to just put on   my glasses here. Thank you Lord, another miracle,  sign, and wonder through the authoritative word of   God. Let’s check our archives. We’ve only read  Mark chapter 6. Let us begin with Mark 1. The

Beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son  of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:   “Behold, I Send My Messenger Ahead Of You,  Who Will Prepare Your Way; The Voice Of One   Crying In The Wilderness, Make Ready The Way  Of The Lord, Make His Paths Straight.’” John

The Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching  a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of   sins. And all the country of Judea was going out  to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they   were being baptized by him in the Jordan River,  confessing their sins. John was clothed with

Camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his  waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.   And he was preaching and saying, “After me One is  coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to

Stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals. I  baptized you with water; but He will baptize you   with the Holy Spirit.” In those days Jesus came  from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John   in the Jordan. Immediately coming up out of the  water, He saw the heavens opening, and the Spirit

Like a dove descending upon Him; and a voice  came out of the heavens: “You are My beloved Son,   in You I am well-pleased.” Immediately the Spirit  impelled Him to go out into the wilderness. And

He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted  by Satan; and He was with the wild beast, and the   angels were ministering to Him. Now after John had  been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee,

Preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time  is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;   repent and believe in the gospel.” As He  was going along by the Sea of Galilee,   He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon,  casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.

    And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will  make you become fishers of men.” Immediately   they left their nets and followed Him. Going on a  little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee,   and John his brother, who were also in the boat  mending the nets. Immediately He called them;

And they left their father Zebedee in the boat  with the hired servants, and went away to follow   Him. They went into Capernaum; and immediately on  the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to   teach. They were amazed at His teaching; for  He was teaching them as one having authority,

And not as the scribes. Just then there was a  man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit;   and he cried out, saying, “What business do we  have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have   You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the  Holy One of God!” And Jesus rebuked him, saying,

“Be quiet, and come out of him!” Throwing him  into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out   with a loud voice and came out of him. They were  all amazed, so that they debated among themselves,   saying, “What is this? A new teaching with  authority! He commands even the unclean spirits,

And they obey Him.” Immediately the news about  Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding   district of Galilee. And immediately after they  came out of the synagogue, they came into the   house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.  Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a

Fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about  her. And He came to her and raised her up, taking   her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she  waited on them. When evening came, after the sun

Had set, they began bringing to Him all who were  ill and those who were demon-possessed. And the   whole city had gathered at the door. And He healed  many who were ill with various diseases, and cast   out many demons; and He was not permitting the  demons to speak, because they knew who He was.

In the early morning, while it was still dark,  Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a   secluded place, and was praying there. Simon and  his companions searched for Him; they found Him,

And said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.”  He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the   towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for  that is what I came for.” And He went into their

Synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and  casting out the demons. And a leper came to Jesus,   beseeching Him and falling on his knees before  Him, and saying, “If You are willing, You can make   me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched  out His hand and touched him, and said to him,

“I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the  leprosy left him and he was cleansed. And He   sternly warned him and immediately sent him away,  and He said to him, “See that you say nothing to   anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and  offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded,

As a testimony to them.” But he went out and  began to proclaim it freely and to spread the   news around, to such an extent that Jesus could  no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out   in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him  from everywhere. Well, there we are and we have

Our first chapter one of the four gospels. There’s  only three gospels chapter one’s in the whole New   Testament [left] and we’ve landed on chapter 1  for many miracles, signs, and wonders. Let us go   again, and we’re not going to go very far. I think  we’re only going to right; this is good enough,

Luke chapter eight. Let us check our archives.  We have read six chapters in the book of Luke,   now we’re going to read seven. I don’t know if  there’s a sign, but this is chapter 8; it’s like   kind of like counting. And the heading at the top  is, Ministering Women. Soon afterwards, He began

Going around from one city and village to another,  proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The   twelve were with Him, and also some women who  had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses:   Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven  demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza,

    Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others  who were contributing to their support out of   their private means. When a large crowd was  coming together, and those from the various   cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of  a parable: “The sower went out to sow his seed;

And as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and  it was trampled under foot and the birds of the   air ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky soil,  and as soon as it grew up, it withered away,

Because it had no moisture. Other seed fell among  the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and   choked it out. Other seed fell into the good soil,  and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times

As great.” As He said these things, He would call  out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” His   disciples began questioning Him as to what this  parable meant. And He said, “To you it has been

Granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom  of God, but to the rest it is in parables,   so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they  may not understand. “Now the parable is this:

The seed is the word of God. Those beside the road  are those who have heard; then the devil comes and   takes away the word from their heart, so that they  will not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky

Soil are those who, when they hear, receive the  word with joy; and these have no firm root; they   believe for a while, and in time of temptation  fall away. The seed which fell among the thorns,

These are the ones who have heard, and as they  go on their way they are choked with worries and   riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no  fruit to maturity. But the seed in the good soil,

These are the ones who have heard the word in  an honest and good heart, and hold it fast,   and bear fruit with perseverance. “Now no one  after lighting a lamp covers it over with a

Container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts  it on a lampstand, so that those who come in   may see the light. For nothing is hidden that  will not become evident, nor anything secret   that will not be known and come to light. So  take care how you listen; for whoever has,

To him more shall be given; and whoever does not  have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken   away from him.” And His mother and brothers came  to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because

Of the crowd. And it was reported to Him, “Your  mother and Your brothers are standing outside,   wishing to see You.” But He answered and said  to them, “My mother and My brothers are these

Who hear the word of God and do it.” Now on one  of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a   boat, and He said to them, “Let us go over to the  other side of the lake.” So they launched out.

But as they were sailing along He fell asleep;  and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake,   and they began to be swamped and to be in  danger. They came to Jesus and woke Him up,

Saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He  got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves,   and they stopped, and it became calm. And He said  to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful   and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is  this, that He commands even the winds and the

Water, and they obey Him?” Then they sailed to  the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite   Galilee. And when He came out onto the land, He  was met by a man from the city who was possessed

With demons; and who had not put on any clothing  for a long time, and was not living in a house,   but in the tombs. Seeing Jesus, he cried out and  fell before Him, and said in a loud voice, “What

    Business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of  the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me.”   For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come  out of the man. For it had seized him many times;

And he was bound with chains and shackles and kept  under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and   be driven by the demon into the desert. And Jesus  asked him, “What is your name?” And he said,   “Legion”; for many demons had entered him.  They were imploring Him not to command them

To go away into the abyss. Now there was a herd  of many swine feeding there on the mountain; and   the demons implored Him to permit them to enter  the swine. And He gave them permission. And the

Demons came out of the man and entered the swine;  and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the   lake and was drowned. When the herdsmen saw what  had happened, they ran away and reported it in the

City and out in the country. The people went out  to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus,   and found the man from whom the demons had  gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus,   clothed and in his right mind; and they became  frightened. Those who had seen it reported to

Them how the man who was demon-possessed had been  made well. And all the people of the country of   the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked  Him to leave them, for they were gripped with

Great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.  But the man from whom the demons had gone out was   begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He  sent him away, saying, “Return to your house and

Describe what great things God has done for you.”  So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole   city what great things Jesus had done for him.  And as Jesus returned, the people welcomed Him,   for they had all been waiting for Him. And there  came a man named Jairus, and he was an official

Of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet,  and began to implore Him to come to his house;   for he had an only daughter, about twelve  years old, and she was dying. But as He went,   the crowds were pressing against Him. And a woman  who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and could

Not be healed by anyone, came up behind Him and  touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately   her hemorrhage stopped. And Jesus said, “Who is  the one who touched Me?” And while they were all   denying it, Peter said, “Master, the people are  crowding and pressing in on You.” But Jesus said,

“Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power  had gone out of Me.” When the woman saw that she   had not escaped notice, she came trembling and  fell down before Him, and declared in the presence

    Of all the people the reason why she had touched  Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And   He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you  well; go in peace.” While He was still speaking,   someone came from the house of the synagogue  official, saying, “Your daughter has died;

Do not trouble the Teacher anymore.” But when  Jesus heard this, He answered him, “Do not be   afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be  made well.” When He came to the house, He did not   allow anyone to enter with Him, except Peter and  John and James, and the girl’s father and mother.

Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her;  but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died,   but is asleep.” And they began laughing at  Him, knowing that she had died. He, however,   took her by the hand and called, saying, “Child,  arise!” And her spirit returned, and she got up

Immediately; and He gave orders for something  to be given her to eat. Her parents were amazed;   but He instructed them to tell no one what had  happened. Miracle upon miracles, demons, the Lord   is the Son of the Most High the Holy One of God.  More miracles, be looking for miracles, signs,
