    She’s back working the streets a key part of what we’re trying to achieve is being visible to the public build up relationships with the different communities within the Sheffield City Center area and by building up those relationships they they can build up uh knowledge of the different problems facing the community

    Prison guards six to be prisoners and just the way people feel when they put on like some thing that shows Authority and then when you have a gun and and he you’re not as you’re more detached from the community uh and then it gives you this kind of

    Subconscious just like yeah listen to me but the the thing is like I don’t know how you transition to that in the USA um because you can’t ask you know can’t ask you the US police to go out um into places without a gun when we’re so when we’re so

    1. 19:30 the vast majority of murders, rapes, and similar crimes are committed by people the victim already knows. A sad fact, but true. Statistically, it is far more common for an ordinary female to be a victim of a family member or friend, often for nothing she did or didn't do, than for a prostitute to be attacked. If you think about it, the last thing most 'John's want is to do anything that gets them noticed, remembered, possibly identified later with their buddies, family, associates, and so they tend to be kind of mild-mannered and forgettable, on purpose.

      However, that said, yes, they are far more vulnerable in all sorts of other ways. If they rent accommodation, for example, then even if they never do business in their rented accommodation, a Landlord might evict them just for hearing what they do for a living. People may attempt to exploit them, blackmail them, etc, all of which are risks primarily happening away from the streets on which they are working, other than the risk of being recognized. That's one of the reasons that many street-girls might wear hoods, heavy make-up that makes them look different to their norm, or even wear wigs, etc.

      On the street, a prostitute's biggest risks are territory disputes with other prostitutes, STDs and sexual health (of course), and being recognized.

I saw one of these programmes where officers stopped two young boys seen with cannabis when stopped they dropped the drugs behing a wall the officers asked them if they had drugs they both denied any knowledge till the officer bent over the wall and picked up the tiny bag of cannabis and held it up and asked them why they lied when " its hardly miami vice"

    3. Because British Police don't carry guns (except firearm units) they have to use their brains and common sense it builds a better society. The more you Steam in the less people will talk to you.

      it doesn't mean that saying nothing can be used against you. its the same as in america where we can say nothing if we want and get a solicitor, what it means is if there's something that could help the situation for you, you should mention it sooner and when questioned because if you leave it till later, it can make it look like you are trying to hide something or changing your story etc. and anything you say can be used as evidence, either against you, or for your defense. So the three times i've been arrested, i immediately just told them about what drugs i had on me, and then when i went to court that actually helped me because i had just been honest and hadn't tried to hide anything, which would have made things worse.

Police Officer here, the caution – specifically the part "But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court" is basically saying if you don't mention something that later becomes relevant and you raise it in court, it could call into question your credibility.

    7. one thing you have t remember when watching these, apart from them being old af episodes from probably ten or more years ago looking at the cars, is that some of them are very different when there's cameras on them or media around. i saw someone begging once and the police come over and not only went to move them on, but also took their money off them the police said was from begging. a reporter for the local paper turned up to interview as they were doing a story on how police work in the community. no sooner had they said that than the police gave the money back to the homeless person and just gave them a ticket to move on. if the journalist hadn't been there, they would have kept the money and likely forced them to leave there and then. there's a few people i've spoke to on the streets that they do that to.

    8. I'm from Scotland and live in a small town here known for drug-use and, more recently, sporadic incidents of violent crime. I'm not saying that all of the UK's police are good – there's plenty of evidence to the contrary – but I'm not afraid of the police.

      I don't panic when I see them coming in to a store that I'm in or see them driving behind me. The one time I've been pulled over, I was worried, but not frightened for my life, y'know? It wasn't even something I'd done wrong – there'd been a minor hit and run crash there a few days beforehand and they were just stopping motorists to ask if they'd been a witness.

      I haven't been on a night out for a while, but I doubt it's changed that the police'll here just wander in and out of pubs at the weekend to see how folk are and do a quick sweep for any underagers chancing their luck.

      What does confuse me a little about the US police, from what little I've seen, is the amount of screaming and swearing that goes on. I don't think I've ever heard a police officer speak like that to a person here, and I've seen quite a lot of arrests/incidents. I can't imagine that screeching and cursing at an agitated or violent person does anything to calm down or de-escalate the situation. So bizarre.

    9. 3:50 we, and our cops, call it a police SERVICE; unfortunately it’s called a Police FORCE in the USA. I’ve seen USA training videos, they literally train their officers to see their communities as enemy combatants. That they’re warriors and soldiers, and that there is danger everywhere. It’s sad.

    11. Yeah we don't have the fifth amendment here. The way it works is that if you're interviewed under caution or charged and you don't answer questions then the court is allowed to presume that you didn't answer because doing so might incriminate you. . You're still much better off saying nothing until you get a lwayer though.

    13. The very beginning of this video shows a police officer making an unlawful arrest.
      He arrest a guy for swearing at him under section 5 public order. A police officers cannot be the victim of a section 5. A member of the public needs to report him for it for it to be an offence. Had been swearing at a member of the public and they complained to police then they can arrest him for it, but not swearing at the police.

    14. In the UK we have Discharge (or Conditional Discharge) and Suspended Sentence for offences – usually minor – which do not require a custodial prison sentence. A Suspended Sentence is offered when the appropriate prison sentence is 2 years or less, and usually a first offence. The defendant will not serve prison time provided they do not reoffend and meet any other restrictions imposed at the time of sentencing. A Discharge means no custodial prison sentence has been given, however there was still a guilty verdict and a conviction. There may be other restrictions imposed for Discharge also, such as a curfew, or completing an educational course.

    15. It may harm you defence if you do not mention something which you later rely on in court. Pretty much saying that if you get to court and tell your story but you haven't mentioned anything to the police, the evidence they can gather to help you won't be there because you didn't give them anything to investigate. It's like getting arrested for murder, knowing who the real murderer is but not saying anything, the cops dont investigate because you didn't tell them anything, and then you get pinned with the murder because you didn't tell them who actually did it. They have to tell you your rights, but they also have to nake you aware of the risks

    16. It’s absolute rubbish that these people are hungry. I live in Manchester and they rob the supermarkets and Greggs blind. They literally walk in, fill their pockets and walk out. They never spend money on food. It’s drink and drugs. Having said that, it’s biblical the state that they are in and we all need to do more to try and help. What is true is that the British police are useless. Much better to have a US system of policing where they tap you on the forehead with a gun as a way of encouraging you to cooperate!

I think what the whole "it may harm your defence" thing is from the perspective of, if you did have information at the time of arrest that could have helped the police, why didn't you reveal it? If you're innocent then you're helping the investigation and letting the police know what they need so that they can stop wasting time with you and go after the real criminal, if you're guilty, then it shows that you regret what you did and you're collaborating with the police, so the judges can later be lenient. Maybe it's just my European brain, but to me it makes more sense than making the better option be for a criminal to refuse to speak.

    19. We still have the right to remain silent. Giving a "no comment" interview is common.
      If you remain silent but later on you rely on evidence that you didn't say at the earliest convenience, then that may harm your defence.

    21. Compassion is good; behind these non-violent criminals is usualy trauma, neglect, abuse, mental health issues they've leant to process.
      In many cases no one has ever shown interest in helping, so they develop into adults with an understanding that the world doesn't want them; the world is something everyone else gets to enjoy but not them.

My son is almost at the end of his initial 22 weeks of police academy training, then he's got to do a years' training afterwards focusing on different aspects of policing, and then another 2 years as a rookie cop before he can choose to be transfered anywhere he wants in the UK….It's a 3 year police diploma, basically. Training over here is probably more in depth than your side of the pond, but also less than it would be in, say, a Scandinavian country? I don't really know, to be honest. My son asks me what I would do in hypothetical situations, and I always try to use common sense and non personal perspectives to give him some sort of guidance.

    24. I am glad That I live in the UK. I would hate to have the anxiety that the American people have, their pent up emotions and their and their gun laws. It's a really bad mix. I am so glad that I do not have to worry about people with guns in this country, as do many other countries that are civilised. I think the amendment bills. have really screwed their country up. They have got so many guns, they're never going to get rid of them. They've got so many guns, every person in Europe could have a gun each and they'd still be plenty left over. That is insane on so many levels.

    25. Its up to the person to make a choice. You can say nothing if you choose to (your version of pleading the 5th amendment) but if you do choose to say something then what you say can be used against you in court. Remember that this is being filmed, don't for 1 minute think that our police are all nice chaps .. because they're not. Many british police officers are on a power trip and over step their authority.

    26. Prostitution itself is not illegal. There are laws against soliciting, local laws against loitering etc. Johns break the law buying sex, curb crawling and other local anti social behaviour based laws. Pimps break the law by profiting from the proceeds of prostitution.
