An international sensation, Dragon’s Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

    #DragonsDen #Compilation #Top5

The problems that we’re solving are not just problems in the UK I think this is definitely a global opportunity let’s go do this the ethically driven pair have a special motivation for getting their idea to fly we’re expecting a new arrival a little boy in two months our

Little man really puts things in perspective around why you’re doing what you’re doing but with their company also in its infancy can this dynamic duo convince a dragon to invest they are going to put us for our Paces but that’s all part of the Journey hi I’m Abby hi I’m James and we are the co-founders of compare ethics the platform that turns sustainability data into business value and we are asking for £70,000 for 2.4% of the business the sustainable revolution has already begun we are all looking for better standards in our products but you

See the problem is trusting the claims made by many businesses about sustainability efforts this is why we created compare ethics the technology that verifies the claims made by Brands so that you can shop with confidence so how does it work clever algorithms Rank and assess the responsible attributes of products and

We check manufacturers data to verify those claims once verified the brands get access to a suite of Technology products that help them to communicate their impact to end users we are the platform to get this right and we really hope that you join us thank you so much we look forward to your Questions a slick pitch from London based Abby Morris and James omisakin they’re offering 2.4% of their ethical clothing verification platform in return for a £70,000 investment first to question the duo is Tage Lani who wants to get get to grips with exactly what it is that the entrepreneurs are

Pitching look just to understand how it works yeah is your business like a sort of trust pilot verification system for ethical clothing brands 100% exactly that would be the equivalent platform so you’ve got paying customers for this platform already yeah yeah we already have four brands on subscription and

They’re paying how much they’re paying about £1,000 a year and we currently have about £200,000 in active conversation and proposals right now with a number of other brands right so they put the product through to you you verify that it should go onto the platform yeah you then put

It onto the platform with its score exactly and are you able to search according to the things that matter to you if someone was to land on the website and they were looking for organic t-shirts we will show all the t-shirts that have been verified to be

Organic and the responsible score so in terms of your expertise what are your credentials that enable you to actually verify this so my background is in products so I previously worked for one of Europe’s fastest growing marketing technology companies I’ve done a bit of everything which is leading a presidential campaign

In West Africa building private sector development right across to develop a sustainability policy at the United Nations and the world economic forum so I really understand impact and I understand the wider industry impressive credentials from this econscious pairing but it appears Peter Jones is wondering if there’s a clash between environmental campaigning

And making money Abby did you class yourself as an ethical activist yes that that would be correct so how do you deal with the conflict of brands that are paying you income and then you find out that they are ethically not doing what they should be doing all of our rankings are based

On industry standards and what’s really interesting on that is all four of our most recent subscription clients have all asked us how they can improve Abby I feel like I’ve just interviewed a politician because I asked you a question and you didn’t answer it my question was how do you deal with that

Conflict of interest so there’s an initial assessment that we do to make sure that they are an appropriate brand to come on board okay but if you have a brand on your site and you find out that they are ethically Miss selling a product will that show up on your site

We have a system to flag up if any new information comes in and it turns out that that product was not sustainable we will immediately take that down guys let’s assume that I am the CEO of a very big High Street chain and probably 20% of my product comes under your

Criteria will you cherry pick the product that’s sustainable or you just put the whole brand up there no we we cherry pick the product it’s the great thing about us is that we can verify on a product level basis you cannot verify in manufacturing unless you go to

The factory yourself you can’t verify when was the last time you in the claven Factory um so just before coid 19 where was that in East London so East London probably making for a very small brand correct yeah when was the last time you were in a proper Factory with

500 people so not recently know you are relying on your Brands to tell you that that’s what they’re doing I’m so glad that you raised this point sh glad CU you’re saying you can verify it I’m saying you can’t you’re right there are so many problems of misinformation false

Information so we work with some really great people doing some amazing things in that space creating systems that help you weed out really shady manufacturers I’m really worried for you about what you think you can and can’t do cuz I’m coming from The Real World not from the lar trying to sell a

Pitch you cannot verify it impossible clothing expert Tuka Suliman leaves the entrepreneurs in no doubt that he believes their concept is compromised Sara Davies now wants to dig a little deeper into how the duo are monetizing their Planet friendly platform can you walk me through the revenue model and the

Forecast so there are different packages smaller Brands they will pay us £1,000 medium Brands could be around5 to £6,000 5 to six grand and big Brands ranging anything between 100K to 200k so that s of stuff is a bit Pie in the Sky yeah okay right and in your first year so

We’re going to be doing 200k and that will be with a a net loss of 176k next year we’re projecting to do 1.3 million in turnover with a net profit of 170,000 okay so is that that you are going to sign up every small business on

The planet paying £1,000 a year or are you currently in talks with any of these companies that are going to pay you the bigger books to do this yes we’ve now got numerous Global retailers I’m guting you have contracts in place now well we that’s the pipeline at proposal stage before

Launch okay so I’m just going to level with you where I’m at you’re not managing to convince enough of the small businesses that it’s value at ,000 a year let loan the ones who are going to have to be spending hundreds of thousands of pounds a year so I’m

Out Sara Davies can’t see any sustainability in the Duo’s projections and declares herself out and it appears T Lani has concerns about the price tag the pair have put on their company for me you have an issue with a nearly 3 million valuation it’s way out there for what

You’re doing you haven’t even launched yet you guys extremely credible but I’m going to say I’m out I think your business model has a lot of flaws in it you will attract the small Brands but you’re not going to attract the bigger guys that are doing 100 million

Turnover however I know more about factories than anybody in this room I believe that if I got involved in this I could definitely open lots of doors for you so I’ll make you an offer but it’ll cost you a lot cuz I come at a very heavy

Price so I’ll give you all of the money but 30% in you made an offer on the business that you thought was not worth it if you’re listened I did yes a complete U-turn from Tuka sullan who offers up his industry expertise as well as the full £70,000 James and Abby

Are seeking but in return he wants nearly 13 times the 2.4% equity the per offering has Peter Jones been one over by the entrepreneurs ethical Enterprise James and happy um I think you’re both brilliant that passion and that level of expertise Abby you have particularly is really compelling your whole identity in

Terms of Ethics is your driving force and I love that because that’s when movements happen and I’d like to go on this journey with you so I would like to offer you all of the money but I’d like 15% of the business okay Abby James I like it I think it’s bang

On people understand There’s real value in doing the right thing because the consumer wants it so I am going to make you an offer I’m going to off you all of the money but I want 10% of the business okay thank you all I can say is

My ask is higher cuz I think I can give you my own personal experience in all the hurdles that you will come across on this journey anyway I’m not going to say anymore I’ve said plenty today you have so I’m sure you got a lot to absorb um

We’re going to to have aat thank you James and dabby now have three different offers on the table all for considerably more than the 2.4% equity they were willing to give away clothing King to Cilan wants 30% of the business Peter Jones 15% and Deborah me than

10% if we can get that would be great I just don’t think we’re going to be able to meet anyone there will they shake hands or Torque the dragons into a better deal so thank you all so much for your offers um tuer I think that we are

Quite far apart Deborah and Peter um would you be open to a joint situation and if so what would that look like for you well I’m assuming from my offer I would have 7 and a half% of the business Deborah would have 7 and a half% of the

Business but you’d have double the impact would you be willing to do 5% and 5% if I was to receive 35,000 back I would drop to 5% equity and likewise if Deborah drops to five so you get away with your 10% overall Deborah that work for you well absolutely

We’d be delighted to accept your offer yeah excellent I just want to get up and shake your hands now virtual hug excellent Peter Jones and Deborah Meen pair up and pull off a deal Abby and James leave The Den with the £70,000 they were seeking and the two longest serving dragons firmly

Behind their business I’m currently in shock I don’t know about you I’m so excited to watch back with Deborah and Peter I’m glad I partnered with you cuz you actually managed to negotiate my more sh for Deborah well done as much as I would really like a glass of celebratory

Champagne I think that’s going to have to obviously wait for now so you’re going to have to have an extra one for me that’s just fine that’s fine I’ll have two or three anyway so that’s good entrepreneurs often try to make a statement entrance to get the dragon’s

Investment juices flowing and our next hopal have invited along one of their very noisy customers to help them rev up the five investors they send you out to warm us up did they I think so closely following their not quite Full Throttle warm-up Act is the main event mother and daughter combo Peter

Riley and Zara Dixon who were the first to admit that their working relationship is anything but a smooth ride I would say it’s constructive criticism that we have between ourselves we don’t agree about much but we agree our products outstanding when it comes to pedling

Their goods the duo are not just in it for the money when he starts saving somebody’s life it it’s really more important than and closing that sale and they’re all geared up to convey the same meaningful message fine to the five formidable investors they’re pitching to today it’s like

Being at the top of a roller coaster yeah it is this is way worse than I thought dragons my name’s Peter Riley my company’s aest Limited we’re bodyw warn airbag protection Specialists operating in motorcycling horse riding cycling and medical markets this is my daughter Zara

We’re here in the den offering 7 a half% of aest limited in exchange for £75,000 investment we firmly believe that heite build the world’s best airbag protection products we’ve got just under 7,000 UK customers while wearing our equipment but we’ve got even better news than that we have categorically saved lives on the

UK roads this is Dave he’s come down to tell us a little story I was the chairman and Trustee of done fre and Galloway blood bikes there been an incident where somebody had a relatively low- speeed collision and received serious injuries and that prompted us that we needed to take

Action for our volunteers we were the first charity within the country to offer all of our Riders an air vest so we’re going to do a quick demonstration for you now so as you can see the airbag inflates which there for significantly reduces lifethreatening injury so it’s designed to support protect and

Stabilize the head neck and Spine and vital organs dragons if any of you endorse this product the very very fact that you do that will sell this product we’re here today to Hope you join our safety Crusade a pitch that has certainly got the dragons jumping from entrepreneurs

Peter Riley and Zara Dixon thank you Dave thank you very much Dave they’re offering 7.5% of their safety vest business does that inflate as well or they all inflate but in different ways for reasons in return for a 75,000 investment all of them are reusable you just replace the CO2 canister but it

Seems that equestrian Enthusiast Deborah Meen is already familiar with this potentially life-saving product so you won’t be surprised to hear I have two of these actually we had a hunch yeah so I’ve got the ones for hes so the whole action is you come off with weight the lanyard then you know

Pulls the trigger and it blows up it only protects you if you pull a lanyard with the lanyard fired ones that would be correct but we have the electronically fired ones as well and they have two sensors so what they do is inflate for you automatically I’d like to understand how

You came up with this product it’s a French owned product product compan is heite I see okay so you’re basically a a franchisee distributor exclusive distributor for the UK correct and and Ireland okay so in terms of the products you sell what percentage is sold in those who ride motorbikes versus Cycles

We need help because we’ve done the motorcycle marketing we’ve got 6 and a half thousand customers but cycling is brand new cycling is why we’re here so sing to cyclist will depend on your price point so how much does it cost to say for the for this one £650 approximately for the cyle

Vest wow whoa the price of a bike I have a cycling business not everybody can afford to pay £600 for an accessory we know it’s going to be tough with cycling when the equestrian Market started it had the similar problems but as people tried them they then

Recommended them and so we believe the same things are possible with cycling a sales driven tuliman questions the pricing of the pair cycling vest T Lani now wants to know whether these high value High viz accessories are pulling in Punchy profits so in terms of the the products that

You’re selling 7,000 units you’ve sold is that right we’ve sold about 7,000 units and what does that translate in terms of sales and profit so year ending march 312018 turnover 350,000 and the net profit of six turnover 20119 uh 450,000 and net profit 21,000 and March 2020 turn over

600,000 and it’s looking like a net profit of something very similar or slightly more than last year so you’re not really making any money true Peter I have no doubt the product is great and I know it saves lives I’m just looking at it on a commercial point

Of view and saying you know the market looks like it’s very small so unfortunately I’m going to be quick today and sell them out okay the petite profits from their french-owned product means the entrepreneurs lose their first dragon as Tuka Suliman pulls the release cord on a potential

Deal theopus now wants to find out what motivated the pair to pursue a den investment Peter thara why are you here here because we believe that a dragon could help raise the profile of what bodyw warn airbag protection can do to saving lives so it’s just the profile so you don’t

Really want the 75 grand we do please because we need that for the marketing it’s not going to be easy to Market I think it’s a brilliant idea I’m sure as time goes by it’ll be adopted in many many other things but you’ve got a business that’s

Barely breaking even yeah I’m going to give you 75 grand of my kids inheritance I thought i’ get that one in early right how are my children going to get a return we should be able to pay you back 200,000 within 3 years but how are you

Going to do that because we’re going to carry on growing but carry on growing is not a number so are you going to increase turnover but what well we think we can increase turnover to to 2 million within 3 years it’s possible it’s possible well there’s only half a percent of motorcyclists

Currently wearing airbags but have you actually done proper physical projections we can pay you back in 3 years that’s not the question yes we’re going to do 2 million in 3 years but Peter you haven’t demonstrated yet that you can actually make any money and there’s a big difference

Between being able to sell which is fantastic but you’ve got to have a good sales team but you’ve also got to know how to make a profit so you can hear where I’m going and for that reason I’m well that’s the first time anyone’s told me they’re seriously petara I’m

Afraid this is not an investment right now I’m out guys I feel like there’s been more focus on the how we can do good than the has on how I’m going to make some money and I hope you do succeed in raising awareness but it’s another one

For me to do I won’t be investing and I’m out by failing to prove they can create any real cash from their Enterprise Peter and Zara lose two more dragons Will T Lani want to invest in the air vest look I love what you’re doing I hate your business

Model when you’re not in control of the product development you’re not in control of anything really they’re just giving you a product they could increase the prices by 10 20% and you can’t increase it in the market so really it’s not an investable business so unfortunately for that

Reason I’m going to say good luck but I’m out thank you than you with four dragons down the father and daughter Duo’s hopes of securing a deal are deflating only theopus remains will he throw a financial Lifeline to these safety Crusaders guys you’re as good as this

Year’s sales numbers nothing else and on top of that there is a guy out there pulling your strings that for a thousand different reasons can decide it does want to pull your strings anymore and you’re not making any profits Kon doing good but it’s not an investable opportunity for me and that’s

The reason I’m out forgive you Peter there’s so socks that doing yeah yeah keep having a good work guys thank you very much for having us he may be a stand in but theopus doesn’t shy away from bursting the inflatable vest entrepreneurs bubble as he said them

Packing Peter and Zara leave The Den with nothing uh didn’t quite go to plan I knew it’d be tough but that’s that was a lot trickier than I expected actually it’s a very fair assessment it’s not our product well it just got to show lovely people with a passion for what they’re

Doing but that doesn’t necessarily make an investable business next to enter the den a South African expat James englesby and his business partner and fiance Venezuelan born Diana Ziggler with a range of items they believe are both luxuriously appealing and Planet friendly our product is very great because we created something that

Is not only sustainable but it actually works drink or apply apply apply apply it’s got a pump on it yeah yeah it’s not really good though if we have to sit here working out if it’s a drink or something you apply while the dragons wrestle with what the product range actually is James

Is more concerned about being stumped himself my biggest fear is that they find some strange number that I don’t know and just throw me off or I forget yeah we are feeling very Nervous good afternoon d Dragons I’m James and hi I’m Diana we are the founders of Nas London today we’re here to ask the dragons for £50,000 for a 10% share of our business we create a truly luxurious Spar experience using premium shampoos body washes and conditioners best of all they’re genuinely

Sustainable and plastic free like many Millennium we are taking more conscious purchas in or in what and what Di and I discovered during this journey of trying to find more conscious purchase ideas was that the average UK household uses about 216 plastic bottles of Earth so okay you’re

Here um there must be a better way to do this oh yes so we set out to develop and formulate our own products there had to be clean Beauty and of course of course course they had to work on Di’s hair and oh gosh Come on di get with the

Program to be fair you’re in a second language aren’t you Diana as well so after all of this we have amazing reviews for loyal customers to date we sold over 3,000 units the turnover about 35,000 pounds so we would love for one of you dragons or all of you dragons to

Be part of this a journey to sustainability and preview hair and body care on the gift boxes you will find the hand gel and the hair and conditioner champoo there may have been some nerves on show but James englesby and Diana Ziggler finish their pitch well done you

Got through it it it it came back a little bit but it came back no that’s good they’re seeking a £50,000 investment for a 10% stake in their business Peter Jones is the first to question the toiletry tusum you’ve come up with a range of hair premium body beauty products yeah

What’s your background I used to work for univa and I’ve been formulating and creating deodorant toothpaste all sorts of bits and pieces my real strength is product development I do that now as a consulting job I also do that for some other brands fantastic okay and tell me

About the story behind cuz I picked out of the box your products and some of them look good this looks like a little bit of a shambles yeah what’s behind that so we wanted to take all the plastic away from our products um this label is made of wool pole so you’re

Going to start disintegrated and you can put it on the compost and it will just eat away they end up like this they end up like that yes you start off like that and then over time they start breaking down so if you open your boxes they’ll

See like a warning card telling people that this is something that is naturally going to happen and how long does it take to get to that state because it turns up looking lovely yeah yeah it takes what 3 4 weeks maybe longer I personally wouldn’t mind it but I know

There are other dragons who would mind it but to be honest some of my other labels go a bit dodgy honestly I just want it to look lovely when I get it but it’s not particularly aesthetically pleasing it ends up like that I’m not sure people will appreciate the fact

That yeah they’re buying a product that ends up like this our customers seem to like it we’ve had over 360 orders on Amazon and we’ve only had three Returns the entrepreneurs may be embracing sustainability but their eco-friendly labels are proving divisive will the positive vibes from the Den’s most Ardent environmentalist

Mean she’s also inclined to Green Light their branding I think they look beautiful the packaging looks great cuz I’m fed up with receiving um organic sustainable products in plain Brand Packaging everybody’s gone for the look at us we don’t even use ink um so I like that bit

At the bad side of it if F sat on a shelf somewhere I don’t know if you’re you’re a whiskey our customers actually like the boxes so much cuz those are made from recycled corrugate they they’re corrugate right no they’re beautiful I can imagine a customer getting that and thinking that is lovely

But that is a very different experience to having that on a retail of there is nothing on the outside of your packaging that tells me what it is Deborah mean deems the entrepreneurs marketing minimalism a wasted opportunity to broadcast their brand now Steven Bartlet wants to put the spotlight on the pair’s

Projections in terms of your growth going forward then year over year so what are you forecasting yeah so we doubling very quickly we plan to do £250,000 uh year 1 and then year 2500 um year three well we’re going to get up to year five where we want to be doing 6

Million so year one what’s the grow I’d say 55% the number oh the actual number for year one that’s a good number to ask me off the top of my head uh so be uh minus 20% of um so it’s going to be be £125,000 profit and their net is going to be

Minus 2 minus uh 50 50 yeah I feel like you’re not very confident with these numbers no no I I I know the percentages overall numbers are a a bit more of a a difficult one you can admit you can say I don’t know my numbers because if I

Interrogate the strategy that’s going to make those numbers come true I I feel like you’ll get yourself tied up in a a little web of nonsense yeah sorry about that so it starts 250 for our year 1 500 750 uh a million and then it’ll go to year five six would be

6 million um 5 million sorry and how’ you get from 1 million to 5 million between years four and five and I thought it was 6 million was going to be the turnover I also thought you were going to double year on year but double

500’s not 750 and double 750 is not a million double A million’s not 5 million and I think you know where I’m going I have got zero confidence in any word that’s coming out your mouth cuz we’ve had a lot of Cs Wallop for the last few Minutes Sara Davies loses patience as James fails to nail his numbers and it appears Peter Jones’s tolerance has also been tested I’m sitting here thinking about being polite but I have to say this is a shambles frankly at the moment this pitch has no substance for me I don’t even know what

Nurious is is I don’t know really what the Brand’s saying I really need to know quickly what this business is all about something that is quite different is that these are all custom made so nothing that you see here has not been made by us each one of these fragrances

Has been smell tested by Diner that’s still not good enough if I’m launching a hair product and I’ve got a team of people that are putting a product to the market I would bloody well expect them to smell it before they launch it so let’s go deeper let’s find out what this

Is all about we wanted to create a brand that was all about sustainability but it will actually perform because I have such a sensitive um allergies to a lot of chemicals and having those I want to remove my lifestyle to have a more like a vegan shampoo you know like we tested

Other like natural shampoos but they actually didn’t work great so I’ve got the journey but how am I seeing on your product what it does how are you going to tell me me as a potential consumer the reason why I need to buy your product so I I mean the main reason why

You want to buy our product is first of all the fragrances and the experience that we’re going to create for you so like as you can see here how we’ve set up all the ingredients this whole Spar experience no James you haven’t you given me a box with a product in it yeah

That’s there’s no experience here yet and the brand isn’t telling me what the experience could be you have got to find a way of shortening that answer to Peter’s question why Why by me yeah you know and it took you ages to do that and you’ve

Got to work that out I’m afraid you haven’t quite inspired me enough to think that I want to to get involved I’m sorry I’m out it’s a huge blow as a failure to succinctly sell the USP of their business makes the den sustainable Dragon deborra me

Take an early bath and now it appears Steven Bartlet has been visualizing a rather unexpected scenario um question I’m at home I’m in my box of shorts Tuesday it’s raining outside bit bored pick up my phone open up social media website scrolling down the newsfeed boom I see you what does it say

Creator looks are SP Spirits at home okay if you’re telling me that you’re framing your business as Aspire experience then I look to the product and I think well that’s not what you’re delivering for your customer and so for that reason I’m going to unfortunately have to say that I’m

Out James Diana this has to say what it does on the tin if you’re going to have a chance of launching a new brand so I would say at the moment this business is totally uninvestable so I’m out James you’re clearly from the industry and have put the Blood Sweat

And teas in to get a business off the ground my concern is you haven’t demonstrated to me today that you have a solid grasp on the business and have the business Acumen therefore to take the business to the next level so I won’t be investing in that

Out four dragons have now washed their hands of an investment James and Diana’s last chance of a deal rests with High Street heavyweight Tuka Suliman could the eco-friendly brand be perfect for his portfolio Okay retailers want sustainable Brands they want them and I am looking for sustainable Brands cuz I’ve got a

Home for them yes it ticks the boxes yeah um look guys I am very tempted to make you an offer I am tempted you I could get this into three or four retailers tomorrow if it had the correct message but I know you’ve gone so far with the

Brand in you guys have got your own agenda set up I would want to change too much take too much of the company and that would be fair of you so I’m not going to invest today and I’m out no thank you so much James Diana thank you

Thank you guys I really appreciate all the feedback thank you so much what a pleasure thank you bye guys bye bye tuliman keeps his pounds in his pockets and the Eco entrepreneurs leave empty-handed their green credentials may have been commendable but their toiletry concept just didn’t wash with the

Dragons a lot of work to do a lot of work to do hearing the truth is the best thing and we can take on all that feedback and turn it into something better really I hope we Hope next into the den a husband and wife team Kate and Graham darot this going be fun cheers who are hoping their booze business will be an intoxicating proposition for the investors I think with Dragons will see the opportunity in our business our numbers are really solid and the

Product’s such a fun product it’s coming down everybody loves a little Tipple micro bar box hey it looks like my kind of investment I tell you this is a massive opportunity for the dragons and I think they’ll just rush towards us with their wets out remember to breathe and remember to smile not like we listen GR hello Dragons I’m Kate and this is my

Husband Graham hello I’m really excited to tell you about our company microbar box limited which spreads Joy across the UK with its gift boxes full of cocktails spirits and mixers since our launch in 2015 we’ve sold over 50,000 boxes and this year we’re due to have a turnover of over 1.1

Million pounds we’re here today to ask for £90,000 in return for a 75% stake in our rapidly growing business it’s been a really fun Journey getting to where we are and with your help we’d love to get to the next tier now if you’d like delve into your samples you’ve got boxes and

You’ve also got drinks oh yes a range of alcoholic gift boxes is the offering from Gilford based entrepreneurs Kate and Graham darot cheers dragons Cheers Cheers Cheers yes they’re seeking a 90,000 cash injection oh that’s quite nice in return for a 7.5% slice or should that be ice and a slice of their

Company Tuka Suliman is first to question the drinks Duo Kate and Graham hello hello I’ve got I’ve got back on the Alcohol what I can’t comment on that to you’re not into alcohol you have a drink every single time I go out with you for medical purposes

Anyway moving on so I’m a consumer yep and I come onto your website and I see a box what does that box cost well you see a range of boxes okay yeah so they’re from $16.95 for the little mini ones and um the ones that You’ got range from £29 to

50 all right so the 50,000 you’ve sold y um what turnover it has that generated we’ve done 1.9 million and what was your last 12 months we’re we’re two months away from the end of our so so year so what do you think you’re going to turn over uh 1.16

Million and the net profit 170,000 that’s not bad so the 50 box if I had to buy all those units outside of of you what would it cost me so the 50 box is seven gen Heaven it’s got seven miniature Gins and five mixers so if you were to buy seven

Miniature Gins from ssb’s and five mixers that would cost you 25 quid so you’re charging double to what somebody could buy well they’ve got they currently they’ve got a sab’s bag full of Miniatures and cans no I a very unhappy birthday I’m trying to get sorry

Okay what I’m trying to get to is the consumer has become very very Savvy and they will look at your box and realize that you’re overcharging them I don’t think we are overcharging them but if you’re telling me that you can get the same bundle bag ssb’s bag full of

Bits yeah this matter I think it does matter I think it matters a lot mark it doesn’t matter at the end of the day it’s the drink in the bottle that counts no and the packaging and the packaging and and the gift card message okay I

Look look I’ve made my point fair enough the entrepreneurs fiercely defend the pricing of their product as to culan questions the value in their alcoholic goodie boxes Deborah Meen now wants to find out why the pair’s business has suddenly seen a stratospheric surgeon Sales so what have you done to switch this business on because you’ve got what 700,000 spread across 1 two 3 4 four years so this year you’ve had a massive jump in sales to 1.1 million so what did you do that caused this to happen um coid obviously suddenly everybody started

Staying in and sending gift boxes around to people to have a quarantini so there’s no doubt the pandemic has been a huge shot in the arm but you could say that for e-commerce in general we’re also a year and a half ago we moved into a proper unit proper

Warehouse and that was one trigger for that we now got to this the point that we’ve outgrown that so it’s been step by step by step and it’s all been organically grown by ourselves okay and in terms of the boxes what’s the hero product um in terms of

The best seller it’s the pink Jin gift set now sar’s got a bigger version you’ve got the pink gen Heaven I have the pink because and I quote as you’re the youngest Dragon we thought you’d appreciate the growing Trend amongst our younger recipients in case you need you can just

Put box and shut the lid yeah if you’re that young maybe you shouldn’t be receiving it okay so Kate Graham what’s your forecast for next year’s salale so 1.1 this year approximately I reckon we can double next year and so let’s go for 2.2 so where do you guys um need help I

Mean personally I think your branding could change a little bit it looks a little bit dated to me bit 80s style uh but where do you think the value ad could be well I don’t know the path to get to 10 million 20 million and so far

All of you will know how to get to 10 20 30 a lot quicker than I do and so hopefully you can put some sort of road map in a road map to riches under a master plan to make many more Millions T Lani discovers the entrepreneurs expectations of a dragon are

Dramatic and now it appears Sara Davies is wondering if the couple’s concept is Copyable guys I think it’s really cute I think you’ve done a great job but there’s not really any barriers to entry you know I could go away from this today and think that was a Cy little business I’ll put a few bottles in some boxes and absolutely and I think that’s

That’s what’s worrying me yes so obvious the obvious thing of having to have a alcohol license and the premisis license but yep loads of people have got those yes you could go away and copy if you wanted to and you would by the time that hit Market be where we were today but

We’d like to think that we will have moved on because we’re constantly evolving the products and the box is a box full of you know drinks but it’s what the drinks are um and who’s searching for them and and knowing what the next Trends are is it prco you know

Is it is it rum okay my take overall on it is I think you’ve got a a cracken little business but I just don’t feel like there’s anything unique enough I just don’t feel like it’s an investment proposition today so I’m really sorry guys I’m out thank you very much

Show Sara Davies calls time on her interest in the alcoholic Enterprise and becomes the first dragon out will well-known wine lover Peter Jones take a shot at the beverage business I’ve been in this game I used to own a company which was like a wines direct and wines for

Business and what we found as we scaled as we grew interestingly just stayed at a plateau level from an alcohol perspective and then we were very much targeted then by some bigger companies and they just started to take the charge and then they started to outbid and we started to draw

Away then from and Retreat from online and then went down the corporate Marketplace so I think Sara is spot on there’s so many people there’s so many people that will easily replicate what you do and if I eared even 20 25% of this business at 90 or 100,000 I personally

Can tell you from experience I don’t think I’d get that money back for many many years and I think that you will make several hundreds of thousands a year for yourselves but for an investor I’m kind of in too long so for that reason I’m going to say I’m

Out but still congratulating you for what you’ve done I thank you but thank you very much Peter so guys you’re going to end up getting to a good level a good level but I don’t actually see it going boom because with the gifting Market people tend to spot it do it and then

It’s done I’m now looking for the newest and the greatest so it’s just not an investment for me so I’m sorry I’m out look I think you’ve got something interesting and you are making profit you’re doing well you’re growing I just failed to see where the

Value I could add to this yes it’ll be nice to be a part of it and but if I can just say it’s that um advice uh and that direction and the shortcuts and uh pointing out the pitfalls as you go along and I guess that’s really what

We’re looking for well you you’ve had that Kickstart that the pandemic has helped you accelerate your business significantly but unfortunately just don’t see the need of having an investor so for that reason I’m going to say good luck but I’m out three more dragons depart and the

Drinks proposition is on the Rocks then there was one Tuka sulliman is the entrepreneurs Only Hope for investment he’s cutting down on alcohol but will he cut them a Deal you have got a good business and perhaps it’s a question of consolidating what you’ve got and growing on that because as you get successful you want to run we were hoping that you guys would help us run no but but I think I think the problem I would say to you is

That if I got involved I’d want too big too big a stake I’d want at least 20% but I wouldn’t want to insult you with with an offer that I know would be refused right okay so to be respectful to you to say it’s your business business and and

I think it should remain your business mhm I’m not going to invest them out okay well thank you very much indeed thank you all very much you’ve got some new customers anyway good thank you so much thank you Tuka sullan refuses to raise a glass to the drink proposition

And Kate and Graham exit the den without a deal not the result we were looking for it felt like it was going quite well and then um for them to tell us that we knew what we were doing and we didn’t need them well I politely disagree people get sent away they don’t

Get investment but we get left with lovely samples and Gifts yes and we get to take these home and not a lot of people know that cheers to that Peter luckily we’ve got a ton of booze at home we’re going to go and drown our sorrow Cheers Cheers let’s see what the

Next pitch is like are you having a drink I be mom yeah go on last into the den a Rochdale based Karen and Andy Turner being married and being in a Business Partnership a lot of people it creates conflict but with with us it it doesn’t tend

To we bounce ideas off each other all the time we do yeah Andy comes up with ideas and I say no yeah okay whatever some not even in there Yet oh sweets oh gosh no are these sweets that looks like seeds or rice lentils as first time business owners Karen and Andy’s initial for into the world of Commerce has had its challenges here we go we’re accidental entrepreneurs really my background is child care so it has been a learning

Care for me definitely mster Slaughter Hello dragons my name’s Karen this is my husband Andy and together we’re here today to ask for £50,000 for 20% of our business Candy Kitchen Creations Limited in 2017 we went on holiday to Canada and we visited some local markets and we were struck by food products that were

Stacked in layers sand art style inspired we came back and developed our first few packs on the kitchen table we booked into some markets and the feedback was really really positive today we’ve got 20 varieties of soups stew in risoto they’re super simple to make and many just need two and a half

To three pints of water we have 11 puddings as well and they’re also really tasty we have over 40 garden centers Deli and farm shops stocking the product throughout the UK we also continue to sell via our website and going to events markets Etc and we hope you’re hungry

Because we’ve uh got some samples of our coconut cantal soup uh Lakeland Ginger shortbread um and chocolate brownies so who fancies being a super dragon oh boom boom absolutely a range of attractively packaged soups stews and risotto I feel a bit like Mrs overall thank you plus selected desserts is the

Offering from Karen and Andy Turner how does this work you literally just put it in a pan and add you water who are seeking £50,000 in return for a 20% share in their readymade meal business I very rarely eat in the den but this is exceptional thank you my word now there’s a

Compliment that is massive Karen and Andy appear to have t tickled to culan taste buds but will Sara Davies demonstrate an appetite to invest Andy Karen great Innovative concept so are you putting these together by hand y everything’s done by hand however we have recently invested

In some we of Machinery which will speed up the process quite significantly brilliant so when did you say you started the business 2017 do you want to talk me through each each Year’s nor so we get a feel so 20178 we sold 8 packs which was £2,000 with a net profit of

£195 Y 1819 we sold £12,000 worth with a net profit of £850 1920 32,000 with a net profit of 4 and 2020 1 that was 40,000 with a net profit of 8,000 you know this deserves more credit than your figures cuz the figures show that you know for some reason it hasn’t

Worked what I call a bigger business yeah so next year what would be your turnover we were looking at about 90,000 mhm and net profit about 20% 20, yeah so with this new Machinery how many of those can you make a week I think around the 3 to 4,000 Mark so basically

4,000 um average price of what everything is £5 each so next year in full capacity going forward you could do a million pounds yes having already given their products a big thumbs up on taste Tas siman has has identified plenty of scope to increase production now Deborah Meen wants to

Find out more about how the pair devised their unusual Monica so why Candy Kitchen because that kind of makes you think sweet it was a a piece of marketing genius Karen Andy Candy why I say Karen and Andy when I can just say candy so sometimes it does cause confusion and that’s why

We’ve gone down the super simple branding for the product okay but not only does it call itself kind of kitchen but it actually looks quite sort of sherbety how attached are you to your branding we’ve changed it three times in the last year uh following feedback and I wrote down when you were

Pitching I wrote down that’s a food tube so I thought actually the brand really for me is like it’s the foo that for me it does what it says on the tin can I say I think fub is rubbish but I think the thing you said with I’m

Sorry I can say that CU I just said it but I tell you what I do like I like what you said first of all food tube I think that’s great all right well let’s go food tube then okay so what is your dream you know when you talk about those big massive

Orders it stops being the thing that you’re doing at the moment my dream is to sit in the office watching the the million make it for me and it being out there on the shelves in you know in maybe supermarkets in in a few years time because they are selling they’re

Selling really well it’s just getting it through that door for the readymade meal entrepreneurs winning Supermarket shelf space holds out the promise of lucrative returns though a social media Savvy Steven Bartlet believes that the pair could be overlooking other potential routs to Market I think this is probably a direct to

Consumer business more so than you realize how much of your revenue is coming from online 15 to 18% online is that your website yes Direct on website but we know that’s a big area that we can develop I was assuming the reason why you haven’t tapped the direct

Consumer market and the social media opportunities because it’s maybe not in your skill set I think that’s fair to say and obviously we’re not complete Tech know we can work a computer we have Facebook we have Instagram you know if you could get influencers to do a couple of

Instagrams about this showing how quickly and easy it is to use this to make great food I think you could sell hundreds of thousands absolutely the actual online side of things that is definitely an area that we need to develop we were saying the other week an influencer you know it’s from a

Different generation an influencer was the guy who got your Telly back when it got nicked on your CS last 30 m day Karen and Andy’s idea of an influencer might have more to do with nicking than clicking but the pair appear refreshingly open to new avenues for attracting

Custom from sources to sausages Peter Jones is no stranger to success in the food sector so can he see this pair’s products making a big splash with the supermarkets I can see it on the shelves actually I think that’s the right proposition I really really like it wow

I had some brownies this week made by Sara and she’s going to be really upset but yours are better wow wow do you know what but I really love partnering with really genuinely great people that deserve a break and you’ve come up with a cracking

Idea and I’m not even sure you know how good it is so because of all of those things I’m going to make you an offer thank you however there is a butt this is definitely a journey for two dragons because I think you need a lot of

Support that’s why I’m going to offer you half of the money 25,000 for 16.75% because that would mean that if I was to partner with any one of the remaining dragons we would have 33 and a thir per a third of the business yeah thank you

P an offer from Peter Jones albe it one that requires another Dragon to match it going to be a bit embarrassing if no one wants to be your friend isn’t it will Sara Davies be willing to Buddy up and make a bid My worry is this looks and feels like a smashing family

Business and I worry that having an investor on board all of a sudden investors come with a huge level of expectation that’s going to drive you really hard and in my heart that doesn’t feel right H I can’t invest toate and I’m out I think the unique value the interesting

Thing here is that you can see into the bags and anyone can do that this isn’t to take away from the business you have but it does pose a big risk to me if this were to become at all interesting to any incumbent that sells pastas and sachets with all the ingredients

Included just to reorganize the packaging in a different way to make it a little bit more compelling I con congratulate you for what you’ve done today but um I’m going to say that I’m out disappointment for Karen and Andy as a Duo of dragons decline the deal they already have a partial offer

From Peter Jones so will Deborah miden be prepared to join him in redeeming re’s for ready meals there’s lots of reasons why this is a great business and you guys are a lot to do with that but you are going to need help you

Know is going to need a lot of work um and two dragons in this instance could be better than one so yeah I I would be happy to go on this journey and offer you half of the money that’s 25,000 for if my calculations are right

16.75% or as near as damn it w thank you thank you the Den’s two longest serving dragon combine to make Karen and Andy a viable offer £50,000 in return for a third of their business only Tuka Suliman is yet to declare his hand is he planning to stir

The pot by chucking in some cash of his own I love the fact that you’ve created something that probably is a little Jewel that you don’t really know what you’ve got I know Deborah wants I know Peter wants it and I want it I know sometimes

Freeze too many but there’s a lot of work here to be done if Deborah and Peter agree but I’m willing to pay a third for 11% thank you thank you pizza and Deborah is it is it a no or is it a yay you know what I think this is one

Where you could easily have three dragons not many times I’d ever say that I agree I mean I in this instance I think it could really help catapult this business so what that would mean is if we were to partner the three of us we would invest £

16,667 each for 11% of the business yeah each can we go and have a chat I don’t think we need to do do we need to no no we don’t need to I like you you don’t mess around do you she’s the boss she’s the boss we’d love to accept thank you

Excellent excellent thank you thank you dragons do you like the food tube as a brand hate it they might not see eye to eye over a Rebrand right thank you appreciated well done but when it comes to striking a deal invest sers and entrepreneurs are in Perfect

Harmony Karen and Andy leave The Den with the 50,000 they were originally seeking and a dragon triumvir with the cash contacts and credibility to supercharge their soups business oh my word I think I’m just upset with the Jones I’d be excited to take that home and make it yeah the food

Tube for the lazy Chef yeah you should have got your third for free for all the marketing Insight Three Dragons It’s like you all the Gin tonight definitely to actually see what we’ve planned for the last 3 four years actually going to come into fruition yeah amazing it’s incredible

    1. The way I remember exact responses from dragons, the products just from seeing faces and if they get investment or not… tells me I must be one of the biggest dragons den watchers around, its kinda weird 😅😂

    2. That first business is dangerous, just more regulation for all the businesses to have to comply to, at a mandatory cost. With the WEF potentially involved all those dragons knew would it could potentially mean.
