Paul attempts cycling up Constitution Hill in Bristol which is a 1:6 over 40 vertical meters. Not as steep as our previous video but a long consistent climb!

Morning we’re on Constitution Hill in Clifton wood in Bristol and I’ve had this great idea I’m just walking up and I’ve had this great idea that por should ride up here on is Brompton it’s pretty steep so next ride we do that’s what we’re going to do and see how that goes
You can kind of see how steep it is the cars are all coming up in like second gear named Constitution Hill I believe there’s lots of uh hot springs around here and people would walk up here in days of old to get their morning Constitution so let’s see how Paul does on his
Brompton just before we do let’s have a reminder about Paul cycling up Veil Street in Bristol which is one of the UK’s steepest residential streets I know probably uh some people are thinking what is this guy up to on this bromton what an idiot but I guess in some
Regards the bromton does lend itself to this this kind of steep hill because as you imagine as I’m going up these are my feet I’ve just got to do enough to just turn the small wheel just enough enough enough enough where as if I was on my
Road bike I’ve really got to put a lot more energy into it and have a bit more of a flow to turn the bigger wheels so whilst you would want to be doing this every day on a Brompton I do actually think potentially it’s easier on a
Bromton as long as you can find your kind of flow with it and uh just grind away so just put the GoPro on nice little purchase for our YouTube channel and uh easiest way back home is um up Constitution Hill in Bristol so I’ll be able to get that chain ringer really
Good ride for its money doing on the bromton Brompton Constitution Hill Bo believe it’s a average gradient of about 88.2% uh maximum gradient about 12 and a half% so see how Paul gets on just for the record I’ve never got right to the top about halfway up oh hi
Yeah why do I do it to myself well done so yeah Constitution Hill nice on the bronton with the 39 to chain ring would be just as good with a 40 to 44 maybe a bit steep the first bit’s really quite Steep and you got to stand up
Especially on a day like today make sure your weight’s back CU H it’s quite greasy so the rear wheel can slip out and then about halfway up you can kind of with the 39 to sit down so yeah nice nice little warm up at the end of the ride

Well done , warming up for the challenge of Lyme Regis.
You realise, Paul, you’ve started something now! Babbacombe Hill next?
St Michael's Hill is the next!
Just for fun – our fun – do it again on a bike with those big wheels but with the same ratio / gear inches number. I’m fairly sure it will be exactly the same effort with the pedals doing the same revolutions for the same crawling speed; the only difference being the bike wheels going around more slowly.
Great video – you’ve convinced me to go Electric!!
Great challenge, not sure if I’ve tried to ride that hill…. I’m sure I always tried to avoid it!
That's a lot of work, the two older ladies walking up made it look easier.
I admire you brompton enthusiast and if i ever need to use a train to commute i'll buy myself one. But the 20 inch dahon i had before was the worst bycicle going up hill. Everything flexed and shifted. Compact enough but slow. Cheers
