This time we head out for the Altraversur Bikepacking Route in Southern Spain. With most of the route off road and lots of big mountain passes this is going to be one of our toughest cycling challenges yet. Starting in Valencia, we ride South West and are immediately struck by how sparsely populated this area is. Starting a new tour is always a thing to get used to and we are on the lookout for our “fuel” of choice to fire up the engines. We meet many lovely Spanish people, some of them helping us out when things get tight. Picturesque villages, scenic vistas, wild camping: a fantastic start to our new adventure 🙂

    1. Gotta love Europe, especially Spain.Once you get out of the major urban areas there is hardly anyone on the roads. I'm in southern California an it's a zoo, central California is slightly better but not like this. Maybe someday I'll get over there, in the meantime, stay safe.

    2. Feeling your 'pain' . Basically did the same trip but in the opposite direction back in 2018. There's no lack of elevation that's for sure. However you will be in very 'true' Spain. Very authentic and very untouched. A beautiful part of the world. Will be following your trip with interest.

    3. You've already got this figured out, but the key to having fun biking in Spain is staying off the roads! And take lots of breaks for a cafe con leche. Don't be afraid to ask for a place to pitch a tent…. but in a pinch you can get away with bivying/cowboy camping in an olive orchard.

    4. Do you two have a portable toilet? I just purchased one for those remote bike travels in my future days; It is collapsible, being all heavy duty plastic. When folded down the dimensions of it is; 11 x 11 x 2. The weight of it is 2.5lbs. Comments about this bike touring item?

    5. Beautiful, fabulous and amazing !! 🙂 Many thanks for another great movie !! 🙂 It's good to see you !! 🙂 Adventure, Unknown, Journey; you know the best! 😉 Best for you !! 🙂

    6. 3:30 made me laugh so hard. I watched it a few times. Maudi getting onto her bike and the video reversing and forwarding with the sound of a dj stopping the record, song starting. So funny!

    7. For a future holiday in perhaps 3 or 4 or 5 years' time (once my presently middle aged dog has gone to doggy-heaven), I would like to get a ferry from Southampton then ride from Bilbao to Madrid then Barcelona and then along the coast into France all the way to Italy's border before turning north to ride back to Calais then home to England.

I don't want to "camp out" – just ride ~ 75KM a day or so, find a hotel (to park the bike, get clean then go out and eat); to repeat this daily (whether or not I stay a day or two in any particular place, of course). My question is this: Is this feasible? Will cheap hotels allow me to bring a bike in and park it inside (so I can charge the lights, stop it being stolen, etc)?

The question I have for you is simply this: Is this feasible for a man in his early 60's to be doing this? What will it likely cost me??

    8. I am 69 your blood pressure. Etc must be amazing. I am trying to get my disco frame back . I like to ride to be scene by the misses and have these cool little caps on my head.

    9. These guys speak like Mexicans. There are out of the way towns in southern California like these that we super boring to get out to. They are over the hill and do not think they are part of Los Angeles they head to San Diego just though the passes.

    10. Is it really that. Hot. Combining work with bike riding in California works. It might be 100 for a week or two then it cools down. My family is from Arizona which gets hotter than Los Angeles. Texas etc. And other us states has six months of 100 degree heat plus humidity I think in California if we had siestas they would not be every day in Sumer.

    11. I enjoy all of your videos and for some reason this one was special. Enjoy every moment of happiness, we never know how long will it last. Love you guys, take care of yourselves and keep enjoying life doing what you love, cycling but together is what makes it special. All the best to you!

    12. Wow ive done a similar route on a motorbike and even that was hard with those endless hills. Max respect you, seriously!
I went in May which was a mistake because thats the windiest month and quite a cold wind too. Feb is perfect around 18 degrees but the temp drops dramatically after 6pm. And it gets dark really quickly. Thanks for making the vid.

    13. Maybe I missed it, but how do you decide on where you will spend your nights…in the tent? My worry would be that I am trespassing….😢
