In this video I review the Romet Aspre 2 gravel bike.

Romet are a Polish bike brand, popular in Europe but not widely known in the UK yet. That’s about to change with Romet expanding into the UK. I’ve been given one of their gravel bikes, the Romet Aspre 2 to do a mini review.

Gravel bikes have become very popular in recent years offering the ability to ride on the road and on tracks and trails. The striking red and black frame is made from an aluminium alloy and with the carbon forks the bike comes in at a reasonable 10 and a half kilos.

Internal cable routing adds to the sleek look. The ride is comfortable with a planted feeling on the road, ideal in the wetter months. It performs well on the road or on muddier trails. For this review the Speedrocker Fender mudguards have been added.

These mudguards fit the bike well and offer great protection from mud and road spray. The sturdy Ryde Dutch wheels are enhance the confidence inspiring ride characteristics of the bike. The wheels are capable or taking thinner road tyres or, as in this case, chunkier offroad tyres.

As standard the 2 comes with 37mm Riddler gravel tyres that offer excellent traction whilst enhancing the ride feel. The Aspre comes with Shimano’s GRX groupset, designed specifically for gravel bikes. This bike utilises the RX400 series which is a popular choice. Gear changes feel solid and smooth.

The 11-34 cassette combined with the 46/30 crankset give a good spread of gears on the flat and on challenging hills and terrain. As with all modern gravel bikes the Romet Aspre 2 comes with disc brakes in the form of Shimano RX400 hydraulic brakes.

If you’re coming from rim brakes you’re going to see a huge difference in braking ability that isn’t impacted by the weather or terrain. Braking and shifting feels fluid and the hoods feel very secure in your hands.

Overall the Aspre 2 is a versatile bike that feels dependable both on the road and on muddy trails. With the option of using thinner road tyres it also has the ability to be an all round workhorse.
