Adventure style bikes have become the go to tourer bikes in recent years
they are roomy and comfortable but unfortunately these days all too often Very expensive.
But there are some more affordable alternatives

We’re motorcycle live again at the NC looking at Affordable Travel Adventure bikes tkr range is available either 500 for an A2 license or a larger 700 cc engine it’s also available as a standard Roadster as well as an X model with of course spoke wheels the standard 502 model starts at just

£6,000 the machine is of course aim directly at Honda’s CB range although of course is quite a bit cheaper but while the engine performance is a match it’s quite a heavyweight at 213 kilos the seat TI however is commendably low at 800 M for the standard roader model and

It has a 20 L fuel tank so it should make for a very capable low capacity tour it it’s also a large spacious bike and I think it’s actually very nicely styled and it’s clearly influenced by jaa’s multi the 700 model starts from £65,000

Al it rises to round 69 for the X model with its wire wheels and extra kit with its larger 698cc engine the large bike is clearly aimed at Kawasaki’s versus Range and puts out around 51 Kow at 8,000 RPM dimensionally it’s very similar to The 500 although on the X

Model of course the seat is a bit higher at 635 mm dry weight is actually about the same and while these bikes are designed in Italy there’s no doubt that these stylish and competitively priced machines are actually assembled in China but for all that production quality seems very good the Chinese have made

Great strives in recent years to improve their standards and these really do seem like they’re going to hold up pretty well and while it’s true the size and weight of these machines means they’re unlikely to be really great off-roaders in reality that’s unlikely to matter BMW of course world famous for

Their GS range but it’s the GS range of 800 CC parallel twins that we going to look at today because in reality these are probably the best of BMW’s GS range those big boxes you’re just too big in the real world if you’re actually going to use

The bike Offroad now they may show people doing amazing things on videos but those guys could ride a Fireblade off-road and make the thing look DN good cuz for me the lightweight the versatility and the lower price of the 800 range Mak it a much better proposition if you’re actually intended

To go on a World trip personally I’d buy the 800 H into BM W’s and then use the money that I saved by not buying a gs1250 and spend it on the journey and while it’s true the bikes aren’t exactly cheap at least not compared to some of

The other bikes in the list here these are BMWs so by BMW standards they offer really good value for money with the base model coming in around the £9,000 mark while the poke a fully equipped off-roader comes in at over £1,000 not cheap it’s true but still several th000 less than the equivalent

Boxes and in reality air fair but more useful off-road for the average Rider the engine uses a dual overhead cam liquid cooled four valve per cylinder 853 CCC parallel twin BMW claimed 70 KW or 95 horsepower at 8,250 RPM seat TI on the standard model is a fairly lofty 860 mm although this

Can be lowered somewhat with a reduced seat height to just 8115 although even about a lowering kit various seat options will give you a range of between 835 and 890 mm so the bike should be accessible to most Riders Roy anfield showed off that all new Himalayan 450 this of course

Replaces the old 411cc air cooled model that came before and it is quite different it’s got a new electronic Suite completely new LCD Dash and of course that new liquid cooled 452cc engine which is said to make around 40 horsepower and the squared off chunky styling of the previous model has been

Replaced by something that looks altogether more organic now the old Himalayan was a bike that tended to attract a lot of negative publicity almost exclusively from people who’ve never actually even sat on one now I do currently own one myself and use it for the North Coast 500 trip and it did a

Fantastic job I have to say and the fact that it was only around 24 horsepower didn’t seem to matter at all the new bike however promises to be something of a game changer for Royal Enfield it is very different and their first liquid C Machine and while more capable it’s also

Very likely to be significantly more expensive than the older model and also more expensive to service the great thing about the current model is it was easy to service out in the field simple overhead cam design was an absolute doled fix and service the new bike I

Suspect much less so so a critical point for the success of this bike May really be how longer this service intervals and how easy it to be service and expensive to be service when the time comes and I’ve no doubt this is going to be a very capable actual off-road bike the

Original one was extremely capable too it wasn’t that it could do as well as a motorcross bike it’s just that it was very easy to use and I suspect those properties will not be lost on the new model but of course a big question for

This bike is going to be how much it’s likely to cost a lot more than the previous model but we’ll have to see where it gets pitched Tri of course shown their all new 400cc models including the Scrambler X this stylish little engine built machine has

An engine of 398 CC’s with a claim Peak power of 39.5 horsepower or 29.4 KW at 8,000 RPM the motor is liquid cooled has a four valve head and of course a six-speed gearbox now there’s no doubt given the fairly modest ground clearance and cast Wheels this is very much a soft

Rotor but it’s a very stylish one and I think may be very successful in its attempt to attract younger Riders to the fold on the credit side the bike’s wet weight is just 179 kilos although there’s only a 13 L fuel tank and the seat out we thought was on the high side

At 835 mm so it may put off some ladies or other shorter Riders but with it modern styling and competitive price it’ll be interested the other bike fars next year Suzuki’s vrom range had a major update last year with the introduction of the 800cc parallel twin engine which

Is obviously going to replace the old V twins the new engine is of course a parallel twin of 776 CC’s for a boring stroke of 84 by 70 Peak power is said to be 84.3 PS so just over 80 horsepower which is then fed through a six-speed

Gearbox but the bike is not the lightest with even the base Roadster model weighing at 223 Kos of 492 and the Sea tide even for that base model is 825 mm although handily the tank holds 20 L of fuel that’s 4.4 UK Gall the machine is styled completely

Different to the old v twin of what another big difference is it’s rather more pricey with the base model starting at 9,6 99 all the way up to £ 12,19 for the fully equipped touring model sitting in the middle of these is the off-road model with its wire wheels at £

10,699 and incidentally that off-road model also features an 855 mm seat height so it’s not the most accessible and as with voms of the past I Feel The Styling may not be to everyone’s taste but it definitely does give more of an 80s par dear Vibe than the old bike did

But on the subject of the old bikee that 650 v twin does remain on sale and it’s now fairly competitively priced with 88,200 bagging you the roster model and £89 199 enough to get you the XT model of course this is the outgoing model and it lacks The Styling and the equipment

Of the new one but it’s still a very good bike and extremely capable on and off road I one definitely worth a haggle at your local dealer I think there’s a bargain to be done somewhere okay so you got me here Honda’s Rebel is not an off-roader but of course there is the

CL500 which is closely based on the rebel which indeed is modeled as one the SE is definitely Market as it’s an affordable street scrambler effectively they’ve taken the rebel raise the bike up a bit off the ground and giv it a high exhaust and a few of nice styling

Tweaks and okay the bike doesn’t have a lot of par dear potential but it still makes a really useful Street tool a rather Natty and accessible off-roader the motor is of course Honda’s 471cc parallel twin from the CB range although in this case it’s given a mild

Detune from 35 to 34 KW the bike weighs in at a rather less than stealthy 191 kilos given the power of the bike but the seat TI is just 790 M so it’s definitely accessible to all and while the fuel tank is just 12 L that very

Frugal engine means that you’re going a long distance between stops on this little bike because you should reasonably expect over 70 to the gallon from this unit Imperial the transel series is also there on show with its 750cc parallel twin engine making it a very accessible and reasonably affordable unit although

It’s still up there alongside the vrom in terms of price so maybe stretching some people’s budgets a little bit bit too Finly also the C is a little bit tall for some lady Riders but it’s not too bad and is lower than many of the bikes in the category Starling is neat

Enough but I would say it’s a little bit safe perhaps even dare I save a little boring somehow lacking the edginess of its bigger brother the Africa twin but nevertheless a f machine with just around about a power I field to keep things interesting hiding in the corner

Of the stand and giving very little attention behind hand of themselves is the new nx500 which is essentially the old cp500 x given a major facelift well at least at the front the rest of the bike everything from from the tank backwards actually looks exactly the

Same as the previous model so it should offer the same combination of effective allrounder commu come Touring bike which is both roomy comfortable and amazingly Frugal now de was owned a cb500x well actually two of them for several years now and has used them to tour across

Europe in and found them incredible L capable it will carry you along in comfort and burn an impressively small amount of fuel and with that 17 L plus tank you get an awful long way between Philips around 250 Mi as a bare minimum but for me the only downside is that the

New facelift has bought with it yet another price hike the bike is now well in excess of £6,000 and when it first came out was it price at just over £55,000 and so given competition the likes of pelli it is n quite the bargain

That it used to be but it’s still a very capable bike that will carry you over vast distances for very little money think you need a big bike to cover vast distances quickly the new NX will challenge you to think again tell us what bikes or collections

Of bikes would you like to see us cover in a future video maybe we have a bike we can use for a test ride either way get in touch below hope you enjoyed that video if you did don’t forget to like And subscribe and of course thank you very much for watching

    1. Excellent.. plenty of info in this one .👍 Looks like as predicted adventure bikes are getting smaller . But price are still rising ,😮 some good s/h bikes will be kicking around …
Saved me a trip & the entrance fee many
      Thxs 🙏👍😅

    2. I’ve got the current Himalayan and a V-Strom 650 XT, both very good at what they do and both much maligned by people who have, as you say never ridden them. I was interested in the new Himalayan, but the more I think about it the less appealing it becomes, particularly given REs reluctance to commit to a price. Interesting report, thanks.

    3. I think the CFmoto range and the Voge DSX look incredible value with the 650MT at around £5000 and the 500DSX around £5500. There are a lot of very competitively priced bikes in this segment and really no need to spend anymore than £6500. My favourite CFmoto bike at the show was the 700CL-X SPORT at around £6400 on the road, obviously this is not in the same category as you were looking at but the 700CL-X ADVENTURE is, it's basically the same bike but with mild adventure styling and at £6300 it's actually very competitively priced for a bike with 70bhp (perfect power for real world). As you so rightly pointed out a mid sized adventure bike is a lot cheaper to buy, will be a lot lighter and probably far more fuel efficient.

    4. Nothing there to worry my Tiger 955i for touring duty. Power, tank range, comfort, luggage capacity even weight in some cases. Also a bit cheaper to insure than my previous Street Triple. Enjoy your videos bikerdood.

    5. To bad the gen3 Kawasaki KLR 650 (world's fastest boat anchor) is not offered in Europe. I went from a gen1 KLR to a BMW GS1200 then back to a gen2 KLR then on to a Honda Africa Twin then back to a gen3 KLR. I keep going back to the KLR because it is just so easy to get along with and is a good handling and very comfortable ride. I call it the Mr Friendly of adv bikes. I got the gen3 on sale for $5800.
