    Good morning everybody happy boxing day this is one of my latest classic toys so stick around and I’ll talk you through it I saw a video yesterday from Fort 9 about the cbx th000 obviously very professionally done nothing uh nothing like what I do but

    The next lesson but this bike is an icon for people like me I’m 58 years old this particular one has got six cylinders look at that isn’t that massive but having said that to make this fit properly and not be ridiculous wide and too heavy what they did is they

    Took the alternator off the end of the crank and they put it at the back just there so this engine is only 2 in wider than the old Honda CB750 of the70s two biggest problems with these bikes one of them is the UK alternator only just gives you enough uh Power so

    There’s a modification you can do with the Kawasaki one on that one which I might do in the future and the second one is if you don’t turn your petrol tap off when you leave it for a while it will leak into one of the cylinders bending one of the comrads you can

    Imagine how expensive that’ll be to repair I’ve put a period tax disc on the bike the bike is over 40 years old now so it doesn’t need tax or it do need tax it’s free but it doesn’t need anot so I just decided to have one of those

    Printed out cuz I think it’s quite a nice touch that’s when the first one would have expired the exhaust is aftermarket but it’s um almost a replica of the original I do like two exhaust on a bike I think it balances it really nicely but it’s beautiful the only thing I’m going

    To really do to it as you can see here the paint’s faded so I’m going to have the bike resprayed back to its beautiful rich candy red I wanted to keep it standard but as somebody quite rightly said to me not long ago well it wasn’t faded red

    Standard was it it’s a good point um something else changed on it as well the shock absorbers that came with it when I first bought it were abysmal absolutely terrible every time I went over a pothole or a bump it pounded my spine there’s a guy that’s local to me

    Called Nigel and he’s apparently the guru on cbxs and he’s going to come around and have a look over it for me it’s a bit hard to start when it’s cold but let’s take it for a ride see what you think of it petrols on ignition on once it’s

    Warm it’s got a bit of a lazy rev counter on it as well so probably just going to get Nigel he can strip these down and and restore them but you can see how slow it’s really funny though with this bike it’s um it sounds like it’s revving

    A lot higher than it actually is have a listen to this I’m moving in cuz I saw that bike coming you see it’s doing three 3 and a half thousand revs and it sounds like it’s bloody red lining let me open it up

    To 50 see if you can hear it and now I won’t there’s a dog there just going to keep speed down a little bit don’t want to scare the animals there we go that was only 5 and 1/2 to 6,000 revs and it actually sounded like it was red

    Lining so the front wheel on this is actually a 19in front wheel and during the’ 70s and 80s the motorcycle manufacturers were experimenting with different sizes they went down as low as 16 in which I used to have a Suzuki GSX 550 16 in and it was just too Twitchy for me

    And on the 19 in my old Honda cb900f had one of those and I could never quite get on with the handling of it this one for some reason works really well it is incredibly smooth as for9 mentioned this one does have a little

    Bit of a tick over rattle on it which is there’s a massive chain in the middle of the engine and um apparently that can get a little bit loose sometimes but it’s such a big chain I can’t see it failing but once you’re actually revving it everything seems to Iron Out nicely

    And it really is turbine smooth the pull on it is really good as well anything from three and above you open that throttle up and it pulls beautifully the brakes do the job they’re not really really terrible but obviously not going to be the standard of modern bike brakes really but I

    Actually find that’s part of the attraction of a classic bike because it just makes you plan ahead a little bit more you don’t have to be going everywhere with your hair on fire not that I’ve got much hair left there’s a nice Corner out here where you

    Can drive it up the hill and I’ll see if I can get the sound of the engine for you let this car go there we go that’s about second gear it sounds incredible there are a couple of videos on YouTube where people have got these 6 into six exhausts and they’re saying

    That the bike actually sounds like a Formula 1 car when you open it up it really does sound amazing it’s a 1047 CC it’s 105 horsepower at the time it was absolutely groundbreaking and Honda built it inspired by their 250cc 6 cylinder racer I just love the way Honda

    Are always saying well you don’t think this can be done let’s do it they’re like a corporate Allen milliard it’s just such an incredible bike to ride it’s comfortable you do get a lot of wind blast cuz it doesn’t have a fearing the seat height is slightly

    Higher than the 80s bikes that I remember and I’ve owned but it’s a really nice riding position it’s balanced so well between the seat and the bars the foot pegs are quite High actually for what they are but again very very comfortable well I hope this has been

    Okay for you there’s not been a lot to say really just look at the old Dash and you got the old choke on it it’s just such a sweet sweet bike to ride and I’m very very lucky that at my age I can actually afford the toys that

    1. Even as a huge classic 2 stroke fan, I can't help being impressed with the cbx, just the sheer sight of that engine is enough. Interesting about the high revving feeling, first time I rode a kawa z1 (in 70s), it felt just like that. Happy Days.

    2. I’ve been out today on my 79 (T plate) CX500. If you squint a lot or have a white stick, they look similar!🤔lol. It’s red too.
      It’s certainly an interesting experience.

    3. Not enough 6 cylinder bikes in the world and sadly thanks to modern emission laws we probably won't see any new 6's being made. The CBX is well before my time but is still an iconic bike to me.

    6. Always has a soft spot for the CBX. I very nearly purchased one back in the day, but for some strange reason I opted for Honda GL1100 Goldwing. To be honest it was the thought of the complexities of 6 cylinders and 24 valves that ultimately put me off. To be fair the GL1100 was a great bike, I particularly liked the low maintenance shaft drive and ease of servicing. I recently purchased a very low mileage (4,000) GL1100 finished in Wineberry. Lovely bike to cruise around the Derbyshire dales and visit Matlock Bath on a sunny summer Sunday.

I own in the States the last year manufactured 1983 honda Goldwing GL1100 standard, as you stated you have to adapt your riding style on these 40 year old classics, to allow for stopping distances etc Mine has the linked braking system & trac anti dive all new innovations by honda at the time, i'm 62 & just find it enjoyable cruising around at 60 mph @ 3250 rpm, as long as you respect the age of these classics they have proved they can stand the test of time.

    8. I've owned a 1978 silver twin-shock for 35 years, so I know a thing or two about these bikes. Your alternator isn't charging properly. It should immediately jump to around 13 1/2 to 14 volts (even at idle). Two possible reasons for yours not charging: (i) Brushes are worn. The CBX chews through brushes at an alarmingly fast rate. The upside is they're very easy to replace! (ii) The alternator "clutch plates" are worn. The alternator is on a jack shaft, and the "clutch plates" allow the alternator to "slip" if you over rev the engine. These cast plates (A and B) are very thin on the ground. A useful "bodge" is to fit a thicker washer behind the spring

    9. I'm lucky enough to have had one. It too was a '79, but mine was silver with a big black stripe bordered by smaller red ones. Smoothest bike I've ever owned, but it scared me… not because of the power, but I couldn't help thinking about the cost of any repairs I might have had to do. It was an impressive ride though, and I remember it fondly.
      I got stopped by a cop once, only for the reason he wanted to look at it and talk to me about it.

    10. Great stuff. I had a fireblade with the 16" front. It never felt right either. Replaced with an R1 that did. I can see why manufactures have all gone for the 17" front on the road based bikes.

    11. Nice to see the old Honda 6 being ridden out on the road. It looks wider than it actually is if it is only 2" wider than the 750! You have a fine collection of classic Japanese motorcycles there to enjoy. I had a couple of Honda 550 4's back in the day before I bought my BMW airhead new in 1980. I still have it 43 years on and go touring around Europe on it to this day. Much different to a modern motorcycle but enjoyable all the same. Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane.

    12. Very exciting, I've also got one in bits that I'm slowly rebuilding. It's already been modified a fair bit back in the 80s though with a monoshock conversion, so I'm fitting Suzuki SV1000 forks and GSXR wheels/brakes (because I had the parts in stock).

      No such thing as a "CBX 1000" though in the UK, it's just a CBX, because it's over 1000cc so couldn't be sold as the CBX1000 like all other countries. 😛

    13. Same era as you and they were and still are something to behold. Great you have one and are keeping it on the road. My dream bike still from that era was the 400/4…. had the 400T Dream and the 400N super Dream but never the 400/4….

    14. I used to have a beautiful 80s Mazda 626 coupe in gold and the paint faded on that especially around crease lines. It was a lovely effect, so think twice before an expensive repaint.

    15. I've always had 4 and 2 cylinder cars. Apart from a V8 and a stright 6 (twice). Current V6 diesel sounds like it's revving a lot more than it is. The bikes (Airhead 860 and Vstar 1300 twin) never sound that way 😁
