How to sail a catamaran part 5. Sailing on Lagoon 46.

    Foreign [Music] this is the this island and we have a full Journal  we have a full Mainsail and now how can you steer   this boat of course you can steer it you know  just hand steer it that’s one option then you  

    Can set its normal autopilot so if press autopilot  then he’s going to steer by Compass basically he’s   just gonna keep the course and then we also have  the wind autopilot which I’m using right now and  

    It’s super fun so I set it to the wind autopilot  and I set the apparent wind angles is it a parent   win angle and this is what I want 49 and that’s  what he really is because you know he is going a  

    Little bit slower left and right he’s not very  quick you can set this it’s called sensitivity   but this is just fine so basically right now I  set the sails and now if the wind changes you  

    See the boat will change because on the top of  the Mast there is this wind indicator yeah I can   see there’s like an arrow so that’s how the boat  knows where the wind is coming from and then he  

    Also calculates the speed of the boat and that’s  how he gets the real wind because on the top it’s   actually only you know the apparent wind but to  get the true wind speed or the train Direction he  

    Has to you know add or deduct the boat speed it’s  you know just like when you’re not when you’re on   the bicycle and not moving you have one wind when  you start you know riding a bike you produce wind  

    That’s the apparent wind so right now because  we’re moving we’re filling the apparent wind   so this is a super cool way when there’s a lot  of wind shift or you’re sailing upwind you know   when you’re zigzagging zigzag so to you know get  upwind you can set the angle so this boat would  

    Usually go like 33 42 maximum upwind and then  you can just you know sit and watch because if   you know the wind shifts then you know you will  have to change direction or change the sails so  

    It can be you know like a lot of work so that’s  why I love this wind autopilot because you just   set the sails you know and you just observe  what’s going on but let’s say now I wanna   you know change the direction for a couple  degrees see again I just press this button  

    So now I just increased c241 if I  press one more you see to 42 degrees   so now he’s gonna keep an angle to apparent  wind on 42 degrees and basically I just you   know steered a little bit off so it’s very easy  to control the boat also with this wind autopilot

    Fingers so like now I have it in Wind autopilot  and now I can just you know play with the speed   so let’s assume that the wind speed stands the  same so it’s not going up or down so now I can  

    Play with the sails you know with uh you know  to trim them better and then just observe the   speed see the speed of the boat now SOG is five  knots and now I can adjust a little bit trim  

    The sails and then see if the boat goes faster  so see there’s a lot of theory how you should   set the sails like you know you should do this  this this but in the end it’s all about the boat  

    Speed if the boat is going faster then it’s  okay if it’s going slower then it’s not okay   so what can we you know like with the Genoa  this boat doesn’t have much settings so what   you can of course do this is the the sheet  of course controls the you know the tension  

    And this is like what you’re mostly using and then  you have these telltales which are telling you how   the wind is going so right now you can see that  the telltale’s on the top they’re like parallel  

    Which means they’re pretty happy but here you see  the one on the inside is Happy the one on outside   is not happy which means we should either go a  little bit more upwind or we should release a  

    Little bit you know to open the sail and then we  would make but now they’re again kind of Happy   so the sale is like set pretty  well now there’s another rope here   so this is the Rope there’s a small stopper that  just goes through here all the way to the top  

    And with this rope you control you know this like  back side of the sail and it it’s not for making   a shape it’s just like to control the vibration so  you do want to have this Loose as much as possible  

    Uh but so the sail is not vibrating so if the  sale starts you know doing this like on the   back then you would tension this a little bit  so it’s just like you know not to damage the  

    Sail and then we also have this adjustment here  so there’s these four holes what are they used   for so if I pull if let’s say I move it here see  there’s going to be more pull down than now you  

    See this angle this angle is going to change so  I’m gonna produce more Force pulling down than   pulling here and then what happens I’m gonna get  a little bit more stomach here a deeper say here  

    And now I’m gonna close the upper part see because  I’m gonna pull down the upper part closes more   but here I’m gonna get a bigger belly so  theoretically then you wouldn’t be able to  

    Sell so much upwind but you would get more power  if you’re going a little bit off wind and this is   also a great way to control the tail Tails now in  the racing boats you see there you have that rail  

    So we can very easily move you know forward  and backwards to adjust this angle of the Rope   but here you just kind of have to pre-adjust and  we usually don’t touch it but just to know what’s  

    Used for now if we would go more on this one here  then you would you know like make less stomach the   more flat sail in this area and theoretically  be able to go more upwind because you can have  

    More sharp angle but also you would open the sail  on the top more now this is good when you wanna   you know release a lot of wind it’s very windy  they don’t have much you don’t want to have much  

    Pressure on the sail but basically what you want  to do is you just want to have the happy telltales   so with adjusting this angle you can control the  telltales so let’s say right now the one on the  

    Top is kind of happy and this one says I have  to release so I could in this case also put it   a little bit more you know like up so I would  make a deeper sale here I would get more power  

    Now this self-tacking which I’m not the biggest  fan of I’ll just have to check quickly if there’s   any boats you know whenever you’re doing and  you lose concentration on where you’re going   You’re gonna hit somebody so you have to go  behind the sail do the 360. and now we can  

    Keep talking so this uh the rail you see you  could theoretically move this stopper here and then when you’re gonna attack the  sail is gonna be you know more in now I’ll show you on this side so if I move this  stopper more here now the sail would be here  

    You can see it would be like you see like  smaller Angle now there’s a thing it doesn’t   really work I’ll have to do some more uh video  on that but if you put the sail in the middle   it doesn’t work because there’s this minimum  angle that the sails need so I never touch  

    This I always keep it like this all the way out  and I think this is the the best for and then   why would you use these Stoppers so let’s say  you’re not sailing or you’re selling downwind  

    And you have kids flying around whatever now  you can move this one see all the way here so there’s no danger that this trailer  would you know unpredictably go left and   right if you mess it up if there’s a wind shift or  

    Maybe you know kids running around  and you can just cut the fingers here we have a great example of why you have to  make these things happen you see it actually came   in so all these ropes and you see all these roads  were closing the lazy Jack the back you have to  

    Kind of make sure they don’t go in because you  can get stuck and then you wouldn’t be able to   release the main sheet if it’s really necessary  so see I’m just you know just do whatever   like this seems fine and these  things see they don’t really hold  

    So you always have to do an extra now it’s way  better so it doesn’t go in another thing you   always want to do is make sure these guys are  always get kind of loose and also these bolts  

    So there’s one bolt here one bolt here and  they just kind of stand especially when you   get a new boat it’s all loose and you do want to  double check this all the time I usually put zip  

    Ties but now somebody remove them and I put  the zip tie through here and then it makes it   cannot rotate this pin so always check this you  know a couple times a year all around the boat  

    So what can we do with the Mainsail so the  controls of course we have the main sheet   but also the hellyard so right now you can  see that this sail is not tension enough   you see the front edge it’s a little bit loose  it’s kind of okay but if I would release make  

    It even more loose then you would get this kind  of line and you can deform the sail very quickly   so this is like okay but it should  be a little bit more tangent now you   don’t want a tension when there’s a  wind you know you should turn upwind  

    Or use engines or release the main sheet a lot  so that the sail you know is empty loose and then   you tension the main the main halyard because  otherwise there’s just way too much pressure now here on the back of the boat  we have this trailer which is a  

    Great thing it’s basically controls the  angle of the sail you see so the Boom   and it actually controls this angle to the  wind and the main sheet also has I mean the   same effect if you release the main sheet  it will open but also the boom will go up  

    So once you release this one you see the boom  goes up up and out so it opens and goes up   and that affects the back of the sail see the  back edge of the sail so then looking from here  

    We call it a twist so now the more I pull it  down the last twist I’m gonna get the sail is   more closed now it gets more power so let’s just  say there’s like some normal winds like I know  

    10 to 15 knots I just want to have it closed so  right now I could close it more and I would get   more power now as the wind increases and there’s  too much wind you want to release the main sheet  

    So that you open the sale and that’s my there’s  you know much less forces on the boat on the sails   and much less chances your capsize so basically  it’s like on the sailboat on a monohull you have  

    A bank you know and he controls this uh you  know Twist on the sail now on the catamaran   this rope is like mostly should be used to control  the twist and then the angle of the sail should  

    Be controlled with moving uh the trail this uh  trolley trailer left and right but of course once   you get all the way to the end and you want to  open more then all that’s left is the main [ __ ]  

    Now in the catamarans like you know many racing  boats they also have this I think it’s called out   how so it’s basically the tension of the sail  pulling there but on this boat it’s just fixed  

    And you would kind of control you know the depth  of the sail but then again if you have these sales   with the full button you don’t do much you know  like it’s on hobby cat it’s you know very small  

    Effect so that’s why they just you know fix it and  nobody touches and everybody’s happy and then of   course when there’s too much wind the Mainsail can  be Rift which means yeah you put it a little bit  

    Down and that’s why all these lines on the back  are and also in the front because now you put   the sail down and tension these lines which are  now going to hold the sail down so you’re gonna   decrease the sale area decrease the power because  you don’t want to be overpowered because we’re  

    Going to either break or turn the boat around so  very simply you can go down so this boat has three   Roofing spots so you can go down a little bit  even more or even more so there’s like three riffs  

    It all depends you know how much wind there is  now you can do the same thing with the Genoa   you know when there’s too much  wind you just furl it a little bit  

    You know you would just like furl it a little bit  and you see those two points and we call it like a   roofing like so you know like this would be the  third Ray of the second riff how much you furl  

    The sail but in this case you can just go by The  Filling you don’t have to go to the point you just   go as much as you think it’s okay so when there’s  too much wind you just furl the sail a little bit  

    And then it’s going to produce less pressure and  you’re going to decrease power and you’ll be able   to sail in more winds now the furling you know  once you furl the shape is never the same you know  

    I always lose the shape so I don’t really like  it but of course it’s easy and that’s what the   cruising boats have right now yeah getting close  to this a great day not much waves nice sailing is thank you

    Let’s talk about the I love this High field  Dingus it’s aluminum bottom a little bit V   like super cool stuff I love Yamaha I’m a fan of  Yamaha I would always take it over other engines   this is a electronic injection so there’s no  choke like works like butter it’s a really  

    Good stuff so we don’t keep the fuel here some  people keep the fuel here and then you know just   on the Sun the water can get in so these boats  you have a double floor which is great because  

    The water stays there so your feet is dry this  is the plug you know to drain the water so now   the hose goes under and comes in here where we  have a fuel tank now most of the people take a  

    10 liter I think that’s like kind of standard but  the 20 liter fits in here and you do want to have   a 20 liter because hey you need fuel more fuel  the better fuel so before we start you check if  

    There’s fuel there’s a gauge you can also open and  check or just by you know looking here uh then you   want to open the air so this is the air because  when the fuel goes out to the engine if you keep  

    This closed it’s going to either collapse or it’s  going to stop working so you have to keep the air   open and this is good because it’s in a shade so  it doesn’t get hot and I suggest having it like  

    This this is the small vent where the air comes  in and then we have so this is the throttle so   just by twisting you give more power this is the  gear so this is forward this is neutral we have a  

    Reverse so whenever you’re doing this you know you  shouldn’t have power but you should put minimum   and then you should you see a switch now this  is a safety cord so you put this on your wrist  

    And then if you fall in the water you’re gonna  pull this off and the engine is going to stop now   I should be using this more often for some reason  I’m not but you should be using it uh then when  

    You want to shut off the engine you have to press  here this button it just shuts it off so just go   to the minimum press this button and there’s two  lights they turn red it’s for oil and temperature  

    So if there’s no light it’s okay every engine  is different but if there’s something like red   lights that means either oil or temperature is  the problem uh oh so this button here adjusts   how hard it is to move the engine so you can like  adjust now it’s harder firmer for higher speeds  

    Uh it’s good to know and then you want to keep  these guys very tangent this is not like super   well tangent the engine can like twist for in the  water happens many times then we have the oars  

    Always bring yours because the engines fail and  always bring the anchor so we have anchor and the   line is like the umbrella anchor we just you know  opens and closes and it’s really good to have not  

    Just for the Emergency you know let’s say you’re  out there your engine fails and you’re gonna drift   well you just drop the engine and you’re gonna be  good or if you go we’ll go down there to the pier  

    And you don’t want your thing you’re rubbing  you can always drop the anchor behind and it’s   going to keep the boat from smashing you know  to the pier and then we have the fenders which   are most of the people don’t have but I suggest  I just love these red ones it’s good visibility  

    So I like to keep the dinghy on a long line so  actually because if it’s very short and the waves   come it’s going to be not too much shock and what  we have is so these are the things when we lift it  

    Up and I always have carbine so see I just do this  in the water it’s very easy and it’s not gonna you   know this attach now when I go into the dinghy I  very trust this engine so sometimes I just jump  

    In and start but that’s what you shouldn’t  do so what I do is unclip it I put it here and then I hold this line and just step in   and I’m using this line as just you know  like to stabilize myself I’m still you  

    See connected to the boat and because this  is really good engine all I have to do is and now with other engines you’ll have to be  clipped you know and start them I always attach  

    This here so you don’t want to get it in the  propeller so the distance you see we cut it so   it cannot go in a propeller if it even if it falls  in the water but you know you just clip it here   so easy I’m gonna go now reverse

    And I can go neutral so when I wanna get you know  to pick up the boat to people here what I do is   I go at the sharp angle see all these standard  pedals in the way I have my engine running now  

    So the best way is to use this rope you know as  a balance so all you do is you just step in you   see I’m using this super easy I clip this here  the engine is already running now how to pick  

    Up people sideways so the best method is you want  to copy the sharp angle and just before hitting   you turn the engine go neutral see you come here  and then you hold the boat so let’s do this again

    So again I want to get at the sharp angle  because it’s like a sharp angle I need some   speed I turn the engine you see and then  the momentum see how it brings me here   so now I didn’t go close enough just  to show the momentum but now I’m gonna  

    Like go even faster to show how the  momentum brings me next to the boat that’s a quick turn power  turn so the more speed I have   the more momentum it’s gonna bring  me so I go now with a lot of speed  

    You see I turn see how I get close to the boat  it’s so easy now the mistakes so what people do is I’ll do another Power turn when you  do power turn make sure the engine   is well fixed because it can fall  off so you just do a lot of power

    And twist it’s a good method so what people  do is uh they would usually come at like the   angle you know too steep and they have a lot  of speed you see and we’re going like this and then okay this time I’m lucky  but still the boat is going so I  

    Have to pull it back so that’s why  it’s much better to go uh like at a   sharp angle and turn now there’s another  way of picking uh persons from the boat now I don’t really like this one but sometimes  it’s very useful so let’s say there’s a pier  

    Usually I don’t use it on a boat but there’s like  a pier nice beer so yeah you can come very slowly   now I put the boat in a gear it’s in a  gear and by turning and see engine left  

    And right I keep the boat pushing to the pier  or to the boat I don’t like it because it can   get scratched but it’s you know like one  of one of the methods now what you can do  

    Uh let’s say there’s a pier you can board people  like this so you’re here and people board this way   and you’re controlling the boat and still  they can use your shoulder as the balance   so now when you use the gear you shouldn’t  have you know throttle on it’s not going to  

    Work so it should be off I put reverse I can  drive the boat reverse I see it’s just fine   you see left right I can go to the neutral and  then I can put in a gear and I put a little bit  

    Of throttle now this throttle doesn’t go back  like on the engine see when I put throttle   it keeps going so it doesn’t go back it’s good to  know and then I’m just you know driving the boat  

    Now there’s a lot about the balance of the boat  where to put people because if you put all the   people forward the boat is not going to have a  good trim if you put all the paper backwards the  

    Boat’s gonna go like this so you have to find a  good Trim in that matter let’s say if there’s a   lot of chop you can put all the people behind  so that the bow goes up and then there’s going  

    To be less spray or if you’re just two persons  you want to have one person forward so that when   you start planing you would plane much faster so  the weight distribution does matter quite a lot

    I’m docking you know like close to sometimes I  just hold here so this engine is kind of cool   this is strong enough but still be gentle and  I’m just like you see like neutral where I’m  

    Approaching the pier and I hold it here so very  quickly I can put neutral if you’re holding here   you see this is just another step to  get here but when you’re like very   close to the pier and slow you can just  hold it here so you turn you go natural

    So it’s very easy okay so now we’re coming into the  boat see I’m holding here I twist   we’re drifting I hold up stuck a little bit so  it’s all about going in and then drifting in and  

    Now you can exit using the shoulder very good now  this boat has a really good system so let’s shut   off the engine so you just press this button so it  has a really good system for putting out so we’ve  

    Made these clips not everybody has these clips  so well done and one here so I just clip the boat and then there’s a winch and a bottom this is  the safety so I want to close this first and then  

    Just by pressing this you see the boat goes out of  the water now be careful you see here these lines   when there’s a lot of waves many times  they would get stuck around the engine   or something and then you lift up and you  brake so make sure all the lines are going  

    Nicely and then you know we could just  keep going up but no we don’t need we   need a ding in the water so I’ll open the  safety put it back in the water [Applause]   okay and now I’m gonna board from that side  it’s just easier you can feel them from here

    Wait so then I just pull the boat I step in using  this I unhook here I take my painter clip together   I go out see it’s very easy now there is another  cool way so let’s go all over again engine is not  

    Running so I go here I go here start the  engine make sure the painter is clipped and now I’m gonna do the fancy way of docking  so now I take the painter the Caribbean off   I keep it in my hand pull this  out now I’m approaching the boat  

    With the speed see I have a lot of speed now I  turn off the engine I step forward I push the   boat away see and all I have to do is just clip it  somewhere and you’re good to go so that was using  

    The momentum so I was driving in I have enough  speed so I can just turn the engine off and step   off like a boss clip and that’s all I have to do  and then you push it away because you don’t want  

    To crash like a dummy but just before you crash  you push it away just right and then you step so now we have a pier and this beer is a little  bit rough but it’s quite high and straight and I  

    Have this Fender forward so maybe you know I can  afford to go straight in but then again you see   I’m holding here for the gear slowly coming  in when I get close I just go here see now  

    If you look carefully here you see I’m gonna  crash even though I have a fender you see it   would be crashing and it’s it’s sharp it will  just you know damage damage everything so but  

    It’s fine if I just hold the boat like this so  this is the pose I’m holding the boat and then   people can board you see just by you know holding  my shoulder so you want to jump in just to show  

    So you hold the shoulder very easy and if you  want to go out it’s all the same you just walk   yeah now go out and you use the  shoulder you see it’s very easy okay so now I’m gonna come sideways  drifting in and going reverse

    So it’s very good because I have these fenders  and you know I can use more speed so now   you see I have a very sharp angle and just before I’m coming here I turn the engine  I put neutral you see the boat automatic oh forgot  

    This one the boat automatically drifts in and  then you’re again in a good position and people   can board by using a shoulder okay you show so  it’s very easy you grab a shoulder you go in and  

    The same to go out grab your shoulder and you go  out and when you want to go out you just push away so I’ll do it again I’m gonna go  with a little bit more speed now

    So I’m gonna come you know too fast this  is too fast see I have a lot of speed   a lot of speed I turn I go neutral you  see how the boat is going this direction  

    So the speed gives momentum and once I turn I  just slide in and then you just have to get used   to controlling this slide and this is just the  best way to do it now if I want to go out here  

    Solo I would do the same as I did earlier on the  boat so I take off the the rope in the Caribbean okay I need enough speed so when I stop the  engine I’m gonna get there okay neutral stop I  

    Come forward you see just before hitting you push  the boat away like a boss because I have a clip   okay this one was too big or I just do this   and I’m good to go away and then the same when  I want to board the dingy I just take the clip

    I bring the boat close now I’m gonna board without  engine running which you probably shouldn’t do but   anyway just for demonstration you see the boat  is here I step push I use this for a balance clip start the engine it’s so simple okay

    Good job so the ropes you know ropes on the  boat some should be stretchy like this ones   they should be stretchy because this is the line  you put ashore you know like for docking and then  

    It should be a little bit stretchy so like it  takes off you know the pressure but let’s say   the hell yard it should be the name line it  shouldn’t be stretchy because otherwise all   the settings are going to be it doesn’t work  so in the boat we have stretch lines and then  

    The Nema lines which don’t stretch they’re like  still cable they don’t stretch at all now what   do you do with these lines you just call them  so there’s many ways I’ll show you how I do so  

    I just don’t see like these nice loops it kind  of looks nice I say there’s many methods every   Captain has its own it’s kind of like this one  and then once it’s I go here and like you must  

    Go across you see this is the critical point  that you cross if you go like if you don’t   cross everything is going to fall apart so this  is the the key point cross and then keep it tight  

    Do a couple the more the better and then pull it  through see and now this rope it’s good so I can   throw it I can pick it up it doesn’t fall apart  that’s important some people call and then put  

    It on the floor and then once you lift everything  is like this you lift and everything look falls   apart terrible this one is never gonna happen and  then you see I just usually hang them somewhere  

    Just like this but never in front of the boat  you see if you do this it’s going to follow one   day and get in the propeller so I usually  just hang them on the back of the boat and  

    When they’re wet you just don’t want to put  them in any storage because now they’re gonna   mold so you should dry them out so we usually  just keep them hanging out on the back because  

    We use them regularly it gets wet all the time  just dry out although they’re on the Sun but uh   you know they’re good for many years even if we  keep them on the sand so so the knot I use to  

    Hang it it’s like you know just like a fender  nut you see it’s this not nothing special uh   and then I was thinking you see like  a new system so that’s another line

    And I just like done this for the first time  and I kind of like it so you can go like this   so I start one a little bit longer one a little  bit shorter and I just start calling double  

    I just figured out this today it’s actually you  know twice as fast see how cool is this see and   then I take the longer part and I just do the  same I have to cross here see this is the key  

    Thing okay I should have a little bit more line  but it’s gonna be okay and then I go through   see it was as fast as this one I mean it  was double the fast twice as fast and you  

    See it looks just the same maybe this one  looks even nicer and then there’s another   good trick so let’s say see this rope  this is the sheet for the Code Zero and so once you nicely coil it which I have just  shown see I have to put it somewhere I cannot  

    Really remove it I want it to fall in the  water so I do this trick see I go across   and I pull it under see this this is so good  this is like never ever gonna fall in the water  

    And you can leave it in front because it’s not  going to get them propelled like no way you’ve   done it correctly oh there’s always a way but this  is a great method now see this we call it Epsilon  

    I think people call it Bridal call it Epsilon  say once I pull it out I just cook this here   pull the other end and I basically do the same  knot it’s like the fender knot or the one I use  

    For the ropes you see I go over and although it  looks like a mess but it’s basically the same knot   but it’s just like done with two ropes and the  same thing here is the same you see it’s like  

    What I do is I do kind of a fender knot but I go  with see I have a line like this or in the middle   and I do all the same you see it’s like same as  the fender nut you see but then when you go on  

    The on the like thicker it’s not a thin wire but  you know it’s thicker always do you know like the   safety you know for some reason uh because that’s  what I do with the fenders see like this is the  

    This fat fender I love these fenders because when  they’re in between the boats you know they roll   if you have the thin one it just scratches no but  this one when you go this is the boat you see it’s  

    Rolling and it’s kind of uh really good and it  keeps more distance see the thin ones are half   so this one is great to have it forward  and backwards now with the fenders   see is this Fender not I don’t know the  English word but anyway you’ll see so  

    When I go on this thin wire see I’ll just go  put it lower down so it’s easier to work see   so when tying a fender you go I do this naughty  see I go it’s a fan or not see everybody knows  

    This one and if it’s on the thin one it holds  like you can do the safety around the Rope   or you can do like safety like the third  one here but you know when it’s like   this it’s good but then be careful when  you go on these rails which are fatter  

    And if you do just a normal for some reason  always slips it seems good right I always   sleep so I always do a safety and I like to do  the safety around the Rope it just seems like  

    This is a better solution now this you’re never  going to lose a fender now what some people do is   and then my hair goes like this gray  terrible thing so what they do is   they start normally but then they do this and  this is Mamma Mia I I like don’t do this you  

    See because very quickly you see somebody  just plays pools it’s gone another thing is   if I see people doing this now you don’t know like  what’s this like but if it’s like this see I see  

    From far away it’s good and then like this safety  one I just see from far away it’s all good but   then sometimes people do you know the safety now  the normal but then they do safety like this now  

    You’re not sure is it this safety or is the  original one then the kit comes oh that’s fun   you know let’s play everything goes away I’ve seen  so many people professional Skippers doing that  

    My hair goes like this you see when I get a boat  after a skipper like that I’m like why you know   like how many fenders have you lost oops so let’s  put it back how it should be safety so you know  

    Think about this and then there’s a great trick  it’s called lasso so let’s say you’re on the pier   and you cannot go off the boat right I have  to throw a line over the [ __ ] so now I’m on  

    The boat this is C and this small [ __ ] is gonna  be the clip so you start by doing very big loops   and you have to do very nicely as nicer it  is the nicer it is the easier it is okay

    And then of course one end has to be  connected to the [ __ ] to the cleat   of the boat so I’ll do this something quickly  anyway so now so this is the boat let’s appear   and I put this double hold this end maybe like  this now watch carefully what’s going to happen  

    On that [ __ ] I have a line ready now and  I have to swing so I don’t do just this it   doesn’t go see I do a swing slowly and then  I throw and open okay it’s not just this so  

    Angle a little bit see I go backwards nice swing  and I just throw it over see so easy I pull   and then I can tie it on my boat it’s like  it’s so easy it’s the best method ever and  

    You should learn this because it’s so helpful  you know you don’t have to jump off the boat   maybe the pier is low and maybe nobody’s helping  you this is lasso the best ever you know thing  

    How to tie a rope to the boat so this is the  [ __ ] and I have a rope now many people do this   and just do a bowline see it’s like it’s okay you  know it’s like most of the people who do that it’s  

    All fine it’s gonna hold uh it’s not my preferred  one I would maybe do this when I dock the boat for   the winter but not for daily use so never do like  this see now the pressure is here and it’s a big  

    Leverage if you do this has to be like this okay  so the Leverage is here and not here breaking the   [ __ ] so this is very dangerous to break now  what’s the problem with these nuts let’s say  

    I am leaving the marina and the Rope on the pier  you know gets stuck you see it’s stuck somewhere   I cannot pull now I cannot release this  one because everything gets under tension  

    You see I I cannot put it down and this knot is  going to be too much because the Rope is going to   be stretched I’m trying to leave the marina and  you’re and you’re doing the knife see you’re in  

    Trouble so that’s why I don’t like this one this  is the like the biggest thing now some people then   would do a round see thinking oh it’s so easy you  see and then there’s a problem I can put it off  

    Okay it is easy but when there’s a lot of pressure  again are you gonna be able to like pull it off   maybe not now there’s another method and this is  like the worst one this is where my hair goes gray   so people do this and usually the  guys are very proud when they’re  

    Doing this and like hey I’ll show you  how it’s done you look at this magic see   look at this look at this fruit I go around  wow you see this that’s how the real pros do  

    It like please don’t do this you know it’s uh I  mean you can do it for the winter uh but again   the same problem you see you won’t be able to  release when it’s needed it looks really good  

    And it’s usually something that the experienced  Skipper will show you like hey this is so cool   and how did you do it don’t do this I mean it’s  okay for the winter but not for daily usage so  

    How to do it how I do it I always tie a  rope to the clip I have to go from this side   and I go like this and I go like this see how  nicely it looks and on this boat so you have  

    Always to think the thickness of the Rope  the have how big the cleat is for this boat   particularly this is great like it’s always going  to hold now there’s a couple of tricks you see  

    It should be in this direction but if I tied it  like this and I’m going to pull that direction   see it’s not the same this is not the same as  this let’s go again okay so now let’s say the  

    Rope is going to be from from that direction  again you see I’m gonna go from this side   across and do this see this is okay and always  leave enough of this rope you know hanging now  

    This is good okay but what you don’t want to  do is to go like this and then immediately up   you see if you do this now the pressure  of pulling to the [ __ ] is high  

    So that’s why if you notice I always go around  it doesn’t have to be all the way but it has   to be this much and then you go Tick Tock you  see because now the center of effort is low  

    But if I go directly up which many many people  do you see now the Rope goes high up see like this and now the center effort is this  much higher and your [ __ ] might break you  

    Know sideways so that’s why I don’t do that  so now how to pass a line so let’s say this   is my boat say I’m on my boat and I want to  pass to somebody who’s on the pier so my boat  

    Ends here this is the water and there’s the pier  so I connected to one side we just talked about   how to do it then you should get your rope ready  see you get the Rope ready but nicely coiling it  

    And then you can also leave it ready you see like  this this is the prepared thing so when you come   speak it up and you’re ready if it’s a  mess it’s not going to work now you need  

    A lot of rope on this side it has  to be very loose if this is tight   see you’re gonna throw it’s not gonna work and you  need a space see if you’re gonna like go backwards  

    And hit here it’s not going to work again don’t  do this you have no strength doing this doesn’t   work and that’s what people do this just do this  terrible just do a long swing take your time one  

    See take your time long swing and then when the  guy is ready you gently pass the line see and   then don’t hit the person the head you should be  aiming here many people put like this the rope and  

    You’re aiming to grow like across because don’t  throw it directly he said that’s what people do   they’re trying to aim into the person which makes  sense because you want to pass it to him but then  

    You finish hitting him in the head and he’s  not going to be happy so try to go sideways   or over the hand or just a little bit like here  on the floor and then when the Rope Falls he can  

    Like stop it with a leg picking up but just don’t  go you know for the head and then it’s all about   the preparation so for the for the laser lasso  you do the same you get your rope ready and you  

    Put it nicely on the floor and then you’re docking  and you’re alone you come forward hold this line   hold this and you’re ready see to do a lasso  and you see it goes so nicely over the cleat is

    See and you’re done it’s so easy we are again  docked together on the buoy tied to the boy so   there’s this block a big heavy concrete block and  the Rope goes and we’re connected just to our boat  

    You see just our boat and so because I have it  on this [ __ ] oh there’s some big waves coming   here that’s not good or luckily  there’s plenty of fenders We survive pretty well because  we had loads of fenders   oh yeah I have to be one crazy guy with a  huge Act but anyway it worked out well so   just another proof that we’ve done it very well  so if like now this line would be too short  

    We would probably break something and the same  goes for the line in the back so that’s why   the key thing is that these spring lines have to  take you know the load now this boat wants to go  

    Backwards right because only our boat is connected  to the buoy see with this rope here on the [ __ ]   now if this boat would be on the other side see  it won’t make sense because we would like turn  

    So now we put it on this side so like this buoy  rope is centered right makes more sense now this   is good for low wind see there’s no winds once  they pick up we’re gonna leave anyway but so the  

    Key thing is this line should be loose you see  has to be loose if it’s too short you’re gonna   break something now because the wind tends  to push this boat backwards the spring line   is taking that pressure now we actually have  a second one which is not really needed but  

    There’s another spring line taking the load  off and there’s one in the back it’s actually   very cool thing is now that because you see the  boat is a little bit more forward than our boat so because this line This has this angle  it’s actually preventing this boat from  

    Going forward so it’s actually like super cool  right now like if this boat would be here this   rope will go like this it wouldn’t have this  effect with another spring line in the other   direction anyway now this line is preventing the  boat from going forward we have two long spring  

    Lines this one and the black one preventing from  going backwards which is what the boat tends to do   because the wind is pushing it here and the one  in front very loose and we had these huge waves  

    Which we survived very well now another thing  you could do is like these big guys you know   if you put them in between it would be even better  like that’s probably what we should do we should  

    Put this fat ones you know here and another thing  you want to make sure is that you see these boats   have Windows see and you don’t want to have fender  okay this one’s I’ll have to lower this one you  

    See because it’s touching my window you don’t  want to put pressure so you just lower it down you cannot hear the safety one see now this is  better you don’t want to apply the pressure on   these windows okay this one’s low I’ll put it  even lower just to make sure okay we’re good  

    And that is how it looks from the roof of  the boat just look at this amazing colors   like does it get better just look at this  super shallow that’s a beach bar some music   cocktails small beer for the visitors it’s just a  small island see it’s all just a very small island  

    With perfect water that’s what you get in Croatia   just look at this isn’t this perfect and all  the way behind the same water just a paradise these clouds are a great example how  the storm develops you see it’s going up  

    And then you get this top shape which  is uh you know like a storm cloud   it’s so nice just another perfect  Anchorage again look at this water we anchored here for a swim the day winds  are gonna come up and then we’re gonna Sail  

    Great wins today sea urchin one in so now we’re  using a needle and we’re slowly gonna dig this   and here is this is for you so just this  is just empty it that’s enough [Laughter]  

    It’s like for each one you get out you get another  shot but these don’t hurt until I just yeah so no   just like play with this and then and then  we’re gonna use this thing this is like uh   very sophisticated machine tweezers tweezers and  you’re gonna like play with these things and then  

    Yeah you’re not gonna die but  that’s how it is so this sea   urchin just don’t step on them they’re  not gonna step on you just avoid them that’s exactly wear good shoes so  does it hurt like it’s annoying  

    Annoying like a splinter it’s like exact like  a splinter it’d be all right just just drink so we’re about to lift the sails up and what  we’re gonna do is we can see here we have  

    Around 11 knots of true in speed uh and it’s like  a relatively calm so the first thing I want to do   I want to point the boat upwind so what we’re  gonna do now is the easiest way to leave the  

    Sail so what I do is I put autopilot I go on wind  autopilot and I make five degrees green Oh wrong   way okay so I want to have wind not directly from  front but a little bit like five degrees from here  

    And because now it’s in the wind autopilot it’s  gonna automatically you know guide me up so then   I have no trouble and now steering sometimes it’s  very hard to hand steer these boats and then the  

    Wind shifts so it’s very smart to put it on the  on the window to Pilot now how much speed now you   should have enough speed that autopilot can handle  it if the speed is too low the boat’s gonna go  

    Like this and you have trouble raising up the sail  you go too fast the boats start jumping and you   get the spray so whatever it makes sense now I’m  on 1600 and low engines and seems uh pretty good

    So I have already opened up the bag so I’m gonna  now release this rope I have this boom preventer   because I don’t like the boom Going left and right  so it’s basically just a rope holding the Boom

    Say just a rope making sure that at night the  Boom is not swinging left tonight left and right   because it’s just noise and it’s annoying so like  this is the basic way to leave the sail up so I’m  

    Going to Center the traveler in the middle I’ve  set my my uh wind autopilot now this is the Rope   which is pulling the sail down not all the boats  have this so you make sure it’s running smoothly  

    Now ideally you want to run it you know like make  sure it’s not Tangled this thing’s usually tangle   it’s okay I know we’re all human but  the more preparation the easier it is   so this rope is prepared make sure it’s not  cool this this rope is holding the sail down  

    So I have to release it it’s just a small  accessory now this is the hail yard this is   the main Hillier that’s going to lift the sail  up now I have the main sheet closed and locked  

    This is a little bit Advanced version because in  the end I shouldn’t forget to open it otherwise   I break when tensioning the sail so let’s just  remember this is the way with the closed main   sheet now I always hook the main halyard around  the Mast so it’s not lifting the sail during  

    The night and when you’re releasing it it’s very  important when you unhook it you very quickly pull if you don’t pull it might get hooked around the  spreaders and then you’re gonna have a problem   it happens sometimes it’s kind of annoying  to unhook it so now I check that the boat is  

    Heading as it is I usually start with hand now I  keep the stopper open because there’s much less   friction although I could close it because  you can pull it’s like one way you can pull   I check there’s no boats very important because  I’m going to be concentrating on all this area  

    It’s very clear with not not much waves now the  problem can be the buttons so we have this gray   stuff and I have to make sure that the buttons  go in between so that’s why I Go just with a  

    Hand and I’m still releasing this one make sure it  goes nicely okay so looking at the these buttons okay it’s going nicely okay the second one is  through third one is not making trouble and that’s  

    Okay another third one make you a little trouble  see that’s why it’s good to have it in the hand   for the first distance because I can just release  a hook and pull then once all of the free are  

    Through I can put it on the winch now I can close  the stopper for the mental yard for the safety   reason now it’s very important that the sail  goes on the left side of the Boom Lift now the  

    Boom Lift is the Rope holding the boom up if you  go Sail on the right side on the top it’s going to   cross the ropes so it’s not good so that’s why we  make five degrees green five degrees from here the  

    Wind to make sure that the sail goes on this side  so this is the trick I’m gonna use now electric   winch with other hand making sure this rope is  going out nicely and I’m watching the buttons okay so now I have to make sure that  the buttons go from this side because  

    The gas or the waves can swing the  sail if it doesn’t want to go you   can go a couple more degrees  green so we’re now seven green and if we wouldn’t have locked the main  sheet you know the boom would move so it  

    Would be harder to do so that’s why that’s a  good trick to keep the main sheet tensioned okay we’re looking good so now we’re quite safe because the sail is now  on this side of the boom hell yard and now it’s  

    Time to release the main sheet because if  I don’t I can break something because the   main [ __ ] doesn’t allow me to tension the main  cell so very important now it’s time to release now I go very gently this is the see these  problems so many times I will just put it here  

    Because it’s on the wrong way and it can pop out  make sure this line goes out nicely and do the   final tensioning and also make sure this one is  loose very quickly these two are locked you’re  

    Trying to tension your brake I go just little  by little now very little by little and just   making sure that the front edge gets tensioned  just right now how to explain well just right okay when this is done I’m gonna remove  this and I’m gonna do the ropes later  

    Let’s put the Jano out now first so  the Mainsail is set I’m still under   engine and I’m still under the wind  autopilot so now I’m just gonna go 40 degrees apparent wind  angle so now the autopilot   is gonna oops forgot to close the main sheet Pull It in a little bit

    See these ropes it’s a little bit tricky  on this boat I could do better preparation   but these are just the small details so now we  still have two engines we’re sailing motor sailing   and the Mainsail is happy so the Mainsail  is doing the job now it’s time to open the  

    The Genoa so we have this rope this rope furls  the Genoa in and also controls the opening now   you have to control this rope because otherwise  the wind is just gonna open the sail it’s gonna  

    Go bank so that’s why I keep it just a little  bit like this and I’m gonna take the general   sheet that’s the Rope pulling the sail out  so this one is here you can see in front  

    And I’m just gonna put it on a winch a little  bit more it’s windy so now stopper is open now   uh what is the best angle to open the Genova  I mean I can do it right now but sometimes  

    It’s better to go a little bit more off wind so  now I’ve chosen 60 degrees apparent wind angle   and then just opens more nice there’s no flapping  you’ll see so now we’re opening the Genoa so   pulling the Rope out this is the white rope  and releasing the black one which is oops  

    Which goes in front to the drum which is  furling the general or opening foreign here because then this guy cannot open  right this is more like controlling at   the beginning I have it very loose very loose

    You see and now as the wind is catching the sail  I can just you know control opening when this you see it was super easy smooth because I went  off wind a little bit now very important close the  

    Stopper give a little bit gentle pressure because  otherwise in the drum the Rope can be loose fall   out get stuck and you won’t see it it’ll break  something I will put all the ropes call them later  

    This one here and now we’re basically sailing so  now it’s time you know to put the engines neutral   and now slowly because we want to go upwind never  slowly gonna climb out which means we will have to  

    Tension the main sheet you can get this one ready  and on this winch I already have a Genova sheet so and I’m gonna set my wind autopilot to 35 degrees  apparent wind angle so now he’s basically going to  

    Keep angle to the wind on 35. if the wind shifts  we change so if you have a normal autopilot he   would keep a direction by compass but now  it’s all by wind the wind shifts we shift  

    We just keep the angle now you can see the sail  is a little bit loose so we have to tension it so we’re gonna sail sharp upwind  and for Sharp up wind you always   want to have all the sales like tensioned a lot

    Oops and now doing the main sheet so let’s have  to be a little bit gentle you have to listen you   know don’t you just need to be a little bit  like you know have a feeling it doesn’t sound   good you’re doing something wrong something  might be stuck and also it doesn’t go nicely  

    Check for the problem first okay so both sales  tangent a lot so now we’re gonna stop the engines we love the silence this silence is just  as good you know when you go skiing and   after a whole day you put your leg out  with the boots it’s just the same here  

    When you turn off the engine and it’s  like ah so now we are officially sailing   this was the basic way to put the sail up they see  you and they don’t care they’re big enough so now  

    We’re sailing and what can we do well we have to  watch other boats there’s one coming and once it   starts moving that means you see it we have a  big Ferry there but I go 20 knots so we’re safe  

    So it’s getting a little bit busy never forget to  look around now you see this is the blind spot so   you will have to step here and check because  many times the boat comes just from this dead  

    Angle and always turn your head around you see you  never know where something is coming from behind   so what can we do now now because we want to get  up there we’re sailing upwind Everybody Knows you  

    Cannot sell upwind and we have to get up here this  is where the wind is coming from so we’ll have to   tick-tock so you go a little bit left a little  bit right you’ll see later on the map how it  

    Looks now the question is what is the best angle  you see the catamarans should you go very sharp   slow and you know like the the shortcut or should  you go a little bit off wind have more speed but  

    Do a longer way so what’s better luckily we have  this vmg and vmg calculates our speed directly   upwind its velocity made good now all we have  to think now is this number and to make it as  

    Big as possible so right now we are on 34 degrees  apparent wind angle and it’s on the Wind autopilot   so let’s just for fun let’s put it even sharper so  let’s go further and now let’s observe what this  

    Is going to do when you’re doing this on your  boat make sure that the wind doesn’t change you   know because sometimes then the wind changes and  of course it’s a fact now velocity made good you  

    See it’s went up now we are going more Sharp which  means we’re gonna go slower now the speed is like   four six four seven but our speed upwind is this  now let’s go a couple degrees down so let’s go  

    245 so we went a little bit off wind and let’s  see the numbers so now velocity May is good   is dropping a little bit you say it was  four before the wind seems to be similar and also when doing this you know we  could also release the sales just a  

    Little bit you know just to be fair  just like a little bit on the Genoa   and the Mainsail well it’s quite loose anyway  so we’ll just keep the main sail as it is   so now you can see that the speed is higher and  vmg is lower and if I go another five degrees  

    You know off wind the speed of the ground  should go up and the vmg should go down so let’s wait a little bit you always have  to wait you know it’s like an average you   know don’t put your conclusions too  quickly now the wind went up you see  

    So that’s also why the speed went up but the  vng is 3.6 so I’m gonna go back now to 35 the wind is picking up so let’s see what happens with vmg should go up  now it’s three six three seven see it’s going  

    Up three eight which means sharper upwind gives  you better speed now let’s go a little bit more   so I’ll go 32 let’s see what the vng is going  to do I’m gonna just tension a little bit   you know the Genoa you should always adjust  the sales also you know not just change the  

    Angle but trim the sales to be you  know the best stream for that angle   and you can see the vmg okay we have now a lot  of waves from the ferry so it’s not a fair fight  

    Let’s wait a little bit the wind went down a  little bit see our speed dropped that’s because of   the Waves so that’s why the vmg we’re doing right  now see it also depends from the waves because if  

    You go like sharp upwind you go more directly  on the waves and the boat’s gonna stop more   so probably sometimes you know it’s faster to  go a little bit off-wind but that’s why the  

    Vmg is you have to learn your boat uh so now it  just seems everything is messed up a little bit   let’s wait until the boat uh okay now it’s free  seven the wind dropped so let’s go back to 35  

    And you have these two numbers this is what I want  45 and this is what it is you know because he’s   messing up a little bit uh the autopilot so let’s  see the vmg 3736 anyway it seems to be dropping but let’s give it a little bit  time you know because the boat  

    You know sometimes hits the wave and  then stops or autopilot messes it up   oh we’re getting good wins now you  see apparent wind is going up to 17.   okay now it’s free seven let’s say it was three  six three seven Max and let’s go now to 32.

    So now slowly the boat is gonna be you know now  we’re on 35 and 32 you see the vmg is going up   four so it’s pretty obvious and it’s the same  from my experience that with this catamaran  

    It’s the best to go sharp upwind slow and just do  you know the shortest way possible you’re going to   hear many people know the catamarans they have to  have speed and go fast you know and have a longer  

    Way and you’re gonna reach your destination upward  faster from my experience it doesn’t work we have   raced a lot and we have won most of the races just  because we were going slow and sharp uh like the  

    Rest of the people were going faster and longer  way well we won because on this catamarans this   seems to be uh the best way so with your boat you  just play you know trim the sails try to figure  

    Out different angles to see what’s the best and  also think about the sea conditions if there’s a   lot of waves then the angles you know it might be  a little bit better to go a little bit off wind  

    So trimming the sails so we’re still sailing  we have our 42 degrees wind autopilot set to   42 degrees apparent wind angle so what can we do  to make this boat faster so let’s see what like   we could adjust there’s one rope which usually  nobody knows what’s for and this is tangenting  

    The back side not just the back Edge it doesn’t  do much it’s mostly to prevent from the sale   doing this so you want to have this one released  as much as possible just tension just enough so  

    The sail is not flapping and just you know because  it would wear it out then we have this is the main   uh the Jeep sheet so this is control this is the  main control and then here we have a couple of  

    These holes and by changing the hole here you  change the angle of the Jeep sheet so if you   put here it’s going to pull more down which means  the belly is going to be bigger and you’re gonna  

    Pull the back Edge more you know you can control  the shape of the upper part you know like maybe   close it more now if you’re gonna pull all the  way down you’re gonna pull more pressure here  

    So the sail is going to get flatter here but then  the upper part is going to open more which could   be very useful when you have a lot of wind and you  just want to spill some wind you know to put less  

    Pressure on the boat and then this is this called  self-tacking rail which just you know self-tex   when you turn it just go across now so you have  these Stoppers so you can move this and some  

    People think that you know you could like put this  thing all the way here you know just to have you   know more sharp Angle now it doesn’t work because  the sail needs you know this minimum angle and  

    Even if you put it in the middle it’s not gonna  work I mean I can show you but it doesn’t work   so why this is for is to move it across to make  sure the sail is locked let’s say somebody’s  

    Walking here you know just like me kids are  playing they put your feet here and the sail goes   across so this is mostly safety so you could take  this guy put it here and then this is locked it’s  

    Very useful when you’re sailing downwind when this  sails you know sometimes just go across or the   wind changes so this is mostly safety but you want  to keep on setting up wind here you don’t want to  

    Move it all the way in because it just doesn’t  happen now using this the Jeep sheet we control   The Telltale so you have these two blue  things ideally you know they would be parallel  

    Now one is on this side one is on the other side  usually you have two colors they’re both blue here   so it’s like outer and inner one now depending  which one does trouble you have to adjust  

    Direction or adjust the tension of the Jeep sheet  now if the guy on the outside is making trouble   you have to go away from the trouble which means  you go this direction if the guy on this side  

    Is there in trouble you go away you know  you can steer the boat away or you can do   it controlling with the Jeep sheet which means  when the guy on that side is doing trouble   you can release a little bit when the  guy on this side is doing trouble your  

    Tension a little bit nice I’ll just  show you this is not so complicated so we had a good sale and now I’m just gonna  release to make it not happy so release   and I will see you very quickly well it’s not good  

    See you can see this front edge it’s kind of  empty it’s not catching the we’re still sailing   but you can see that it’s not a happy sail the  front edge is kind of you know backing and you can  

    See that tail Telltale on the outer side is Happy  the one on the inside is not happy so to fix this   we can either steer or tension this rope so  let’s just try steer so I’ll go 20 degrees here

    So I have a rather limit because once I  released the Genoa the boat was not in the   balance so the Mainsail pushed the boat upwind  and because this autopilot is kind of slippy   he didn’t react quickly so when too  much upwind but we’re back on track okay  

    So the boat is coming back and  let’s look at our telltales   so you can see the sail is nice and full  tell Tales are kind of parallel more or less you know we went a little bit too  much off wind so let’s fix this  

    So we can go more upwind until we get them happy see I’m watching that Telltale on the outer  side I hope you see it for this dirty window   ah see and now it’s getting better because I  went without a pilot more upwind it’s still  

    Not happy I’ll go another five degrees until the  telltale’s stay parallel okay now it’s pretty good   let’s look from here yeah it’s not perfect but you  see they’re parallel so it’s uh it’s pretty good so now I’m gonna go back because now we’re on 40.  

    Apparent wind angle and because we want to go  upwind that’s not good so I’ll go back to my   34 degrees and as the boat is going the sail  probably is not going to be happy so let’s observe  

    The boat is slowly gonna go upwind you see the guy  The Telltale on this side it’s like slowly getting   not happy that’s because you know we’re going  upwind now we’re gonna fix this earlier we’re   fixing it by changing direction but now I’m  gonna change it by pulling the uh Genoa sheet  

    So what I’m gonna do look at the  Telltale and I’m gonna use uh see   press winch and let’s see what happens  you see we tensioned the a Jeep sheet   and the telltales are happy I’ll go  a little bit more a lot of pressure

    And I’m also gonna go back a little bit more  upwind like 33 because that seemed to be a sweet   spot for today also sometimes you see depending  on which Tech if you have sales on the left side   these numbers might be different than on  the other side because see this guy who  

    Tells you where the wind is coming from is on  the top of the Mast there’s like an indicator   and many times they’re just bent or off  so which means that right now the 33   degrees apparent when angle is good but  then when I tack it might be a little bit  

    Different and it’s just because the guy on  the top is you know showing a little bit off vmg 4.1 so everything seems  uh very good the sale is happy so what can we do with the main sales so mostly  we have two controls see one control is from  

    Here with this button and you’re basically  changing uh see this traveler left and right   now let’s go here to see what this thing does so if you move this Traveler there  you’re gonna open the sale you   see you’re gonna increase the wind  angle the wind is coming from there  

    So this is controlling how much the sail opens the  boom opens it’s controlling the angle to the wind   now by using the main sheet you’re also  controlling the angle to the wind plus  

    You are controlling The Twist on the top it’s how  much the top of the sail is open now in the light   winds you want to close it in very strong winds  you want to have that twist because you put less  

    Pressure on the boat and like instead of reefing  you know you can just release this a little bit   so the sale will open so now let’s uh let’s  take a look how this works so first this is  

    The main sheet you can see from him I’m just  like gonna I forgot to open the stopper okay so I’m now releasing say the Rope is going  out the boat will slow down but let’s take  

    At the shape of the Sail on the top not sure  you can see it from here maybe from this angle yeah here you can see on the top it’s  like Twisted out the upper part is you  

    Know like more open than the lower part so now  we are going to be slower in these conditions   but also we’re putting much less pressure so in a  very strong wind you can do this trick to de-power  

    The sail so now I’m gonna tension this back and  we can also observe the speed of the boat so now   now the speed is another speed has dropped  we were over five earlier so it’s 4.8  

    And now as I’m going to be tensioning this we can  observe the speed so speed overground for seven   see I’m tangenting it always takes  time see the boats needs time to react okay now it’s four seven what happened to the wind

    So it should go up let’s give I see  uh the boat went of course a little   bit because whenever you trim the sails  if you pull the main we’ll talk about   the balance later but if you tension  the Mainsail the boat goes more upwind

    So right now it’s not exactly as I was hoping to  show you uh uh but we should be you know faster   but the wind messed up a little bit and the  autopilot messed up but in these conditions  

    It’s going to make us faster if we close the  upper part but then again you know just uh   learn your boat to see what makes it faster  so looking now you can see how the shape of  

    The sail on the back is much more closed see  and this is going to give you much more power   now if you look at here you see this autopilot  is doing a little bit trouble now it’s too much  

    Upwind but anyway you see on the front sail front  part of the Mainsail the sale is kind of backing   so this is the effect of the Genoa see the wind  goes in and if it’s tangent too much the wind then  

    Hits the Mainsail so you can either open the Genoa  a little bit you see to let this air go nicer   or whatever works on your boat but this is  because of the journal I see the wind just   goes into the Mainsail so let’s really  is now the main at the Jeep sheet deep  

    [ __ ] a little bit just a little bit and now  this effect should be much smaller because now oh it’s still pretty much the same but you get the  idea what’s the point of this and the racing boats  

    You can set this much more accurately but here  it’s not so sensitive then how much you should   uh tension the main halyard so right now you  can see maybe it’s a little bit soft you see   to this Edge but it’s still okay until you  get this stripe which obviously tells you  

    It’s not good and it’s going to deform the  sale now we could tension a little bit more   uh but it’s still kind of okay it’s not damaging  the sail but if you go more so more loose so less  

    Tension on the main halyard you will get this  stripe and this stripe will just deform your sail   it will you know eventually if we lose the shape  now if I want to tension the main halyard see or  

    Maybe I can show you so we cannot do it right now  it’s just you know because it’s too much pressure   so we have to de-power we can do it  while sailing so I’m putting now the   the red rope up I’m just doing with one hand  should clean this but we’ll do this later  

    It’s not perfect anyway uh so I’m gonna put  a lot of donuts and get the main sheet ready   so if i tension now when the sail is  under pressure it’s no good you break   so what I’m going to do is I’m gonna  open the angle to increase the angle

    We’re going to lose some speed you see now  the sail is kind of much more empty but also   I’m releasing the main sheet see on the  back so now I really depowered the boat   see there’s not much pressure you will notice  on the speed see the speed dropped or will drop  

    And the sail you see it’s very loose so now I can  gently very gently you know still out of pressure   just a little bit you see okay and this should  be enough so let’s put this back one more donut  

    It’s kind of hard to do with one hand  oh but standing saw Will tension now the back and put it in now as I’m doing this too  quick and the autopilot is not following the   boat tends to go more upwind because when you  tension the Mainsail it goes the boat goes out of  

    The balance for a moment and the Rudders have to  correct it so you want to go slowly I will go more or let’s just go all the way and  let the autopilot figure this out

    Yeah this time he was quite successful actually  not you see because I want 33 and he’s going to 29   this is what really is and this is  what I want now he’s slowly coming back  

    I’m just taking a lot of time this autopilots  are not so so accurate so yeah let’s take a look   at the I always put this off in case people  want to play here and they break something so you see now

    It looks way better it’s just right so basically  I just went one centimeter just a little bit   and now this front edge it’s tangent   and you don’t want to go more so you don’t want  to overpower this stuff over tension it just you  

    Know with with time it deforms so this would  be kind of a kind of a happy sale right now and selling our points so down there this is this   is whoever famous for Parkland  islands and we’re slowly going upwind

    Another thing is now we have tangent the main  hell yard you can see that the sale is you see   more firm in front so this effect of the  Genoa pushing the sail into the Mainsail   it’s still there but it’s you know because  the sale is firmer it’s a little bit better

    Now on the racing boats you would have a long rail  and you can control this angle and everything way   better so you can get a better shape to the  Genoa and then you can you know make a nice  

    Airflow see not backing in but going you know  just as it should go parallel to the to the sail the next question is when to Tech we said we  have to go tick-tock and you wanna you know  

    The winds are never you know just like like  the same direction I mean sometimes they are   but we can see now because we’re using the  same angle to the wind if you look carefully   it’s an arc which means that actually we’re  getting better and better direction right the  

    Boat is kind of going like this if we were sailing  other direction we would going worse and worse so   like this is now a good a good side a good Tech  so we’ll just maybe keep you know going this  

    Direction a little bit before we change because  you know the wind is helping us uh to go upwind   so you always want to sail you know the site  that you know is pushing you more upwind [Music]

    Is behind now the rule is you want them to  have like straight out the one on the top   sometimes might go a little bit out just  a little bit but especially the one down   should go like straight out which means you  know the air goes in and goes nicely out  

    Now this telltales I mean on these boats they’re  not so accurate mostly I rely on a boat speed you   see like the Genoa I usually set per telltal  Tales but the Mainsail mostly for boat speed  

    Although both sales should be set to a boat speed  so so you use the telltales and all the stuff I’ve   said you know just to trim the sales roughly and  then you would look at your boat speed or your vmg  

    And then you do a small tweaks to make  it faster now each boat is different   so you have to learn your boat and just you know  play with all these settings another thing that  

    You can play with Genoa is the General Handler so  we have here should be at the general lift so it’s   the hail yard of this sail so by just adjusting  the you know the hell yard You’re Gonna Change  

    The where the stomach is you know if you release  the sail then the stoma goes kind of backwards   and you’re gonna have more flat Edge in front  which allows you for more sharp upwind sailing   but it’s an armor racing if you tension the Jeep  halyard this stomach goes forward which may gives  

    You more power because the stomach is here and you  know you get more power it’s better for a little   bit downwind sailing but on this boat it does make  a big difference important is that the sail makes  

    A common sense shape because if it’s too loose  and like if this is very loose you’re gonna get   these stripes and you’re gonna deform the sail  like this ones this is just normal because of   the strong wind you know sales deform if you’re  over tension you’re gonna get a stripe like this  

    And it’s not good again so basically you just  want to make it look good in the strong winds   you know the cell stretches so you sometimes have  to uh pull a little bit you know tension a little  

    Bit the hell yard to lose the stripes so right  now it’s like pretty okay so just use common sense   but if it doesn’t look good  you have to adjust the halyard now it’s time to do a tech it’s very simple  of this boat so we’re gonna turn here so let’s  

    Start doing the zigzag and what I do is you see  I just press Stand By and now I’m hand steering   now the jib you know has this self tag so it’s  gonna go across and then the Mainsail also has  

    Like needs no attention it’s just gonna pop on  the other side so I turn this a lot very quickly   because you need speed if you go too slow You’re  Gonna Lose the speed and stop so you have to go  

    A lot now the sail is going across I keep going  I don’t want to stop here because I’ll lose the   speed sometimes better to go a little bit too  much okay now coming back now you catch the boat  

    Okay now you could either hand steer or like the  simplest ways I engage the autopilot and I set it   back to to the angle oops this button doesn’t  want to work so I’ll go here so I’m gonna set  

    It back to 43 so right now it’s 51. so we’re too  much downwind and I said 33 and he’s gonna bring   it here so you don’t have to you know overthink  all the stuff so this is sailing with the wind  

    Out the pilot now I mean you can do everything  manually and you get this information of the   angles by watching on the top of the Mast watching  the sails or also you see I have apparent wind  

    Angle here and that can help me if you sail by the  instruments now Sailing by the instruments what   they do when they break it’s a good question so it  should you should always be able you know to hand  

    Steer so practice both but because now we are not  racing it’s a relaxed day we just set the window   to Pilot in he does everything for us we trim the  sails and that’s how these boats are mostly sailed  

    Which is just fine it’s time to do all this  spaghetti now this boat is not the best because   you want to have more Wells for the ropes or to  put them somewhere and it’s just a mess but the  

    Most important right now is the the hellyard  okay so this is the the main sheet of the main   cell this everything is kind of messed up so  we’ll try to make this nicer give this one here  

    Now this is from the Genoa organize okay I’ll  put it in here so the most important things   what do you do this is to pull the cell down  it is short now the main carrier this is the  

    Biggest thing you know what to do with it option  A is so this is the other end why is there a knot   anyway so what you can do is you can just  feed it in here it’s like little by little

    It’s option one so I’m not gonna go all the way  but the idea is you see once you get like this   once you’re releasing the sail  it’s gonna go out and it’s not   gonna be Tangled now you can coil  you can coil with a figure eight  

    Because the figure eight is bad it doesn’t coin  now but anyway you can coil it can be a figure   eight whatever you want but what I prefer is to  keep it down here so I put take it I put it down

    So ideally you want to you know put it nicely down  but now the Rope is set on the floor and that’s   how all the racing guys are going to do rope is  never in here the Rope is never coiled in the  

    Racing style the ropes are like everywhere but  organized so now if I have to put the sail down   you see the Rope is just gonna go because I put it  nicely down and it’s you know gonna go very nicely  

    So this is a racing style that’s what I prefer  some people always coil but once you coil you have   to uncoil you lose the speed anyway whatever you  do just make sure that when you need it it works  

    Many methods everybody has their own opinion but  the thing is it’s just like the good knot the good   knot holds easy to undo the good method is you can  use it quickly and doesn’t get tangled and that’s  

    All all the trick the only downside that this  rope is here so when people walk and this rope is   here might not look good you know so for Holiday  you know if you have a guests maybe not the best  

    But that’s not the point you know you will use the  method you think is the best best for the moment   a couple new improvements we have on the boat  so we have switched this waste tank button  

    Here and uh in this area instead of being in there  because it doesn’t make sense and we’ve done the   same on the other side so now you don’t have to  go to the guests cabin to empty and you can just  

    You know do it from here and then very quickly  you can be up here to observe what’s going on   other thing is we have a second pipe this is like  just a usual one and this is the filtered water  

    So it goes same from the water tank but it goes  through three filters so it’s super safe to drink   so we don’t have to have loads of  this plastic stuff as we used to have  

    So we just have a couple bottles but usually  you used to buy a lot and now we can be more   eco-friendly and still drink good water so it  is water from the tank which is if we if we use  

    Water maker it’s water maker but if we feel it  from Shore it’s very good water it’s not because   water from the water maker lacks minerals so when  we fill the water in the marina Croatia has really  

    Good water we drink that one with the minerals  but then once we use a water maker it kind of   mixes with that one so then it lacks a little  bit of those minerals but it’s just fine you know  

    People spend one week here so maybe if one or two  days they drink without minerals it’s just fine   uh but if you’re going to be a long-term Cruiser  maybe think about those minerals because the   water from the water maker is pure h12 no virus no  bacteria but also no minerals and no electrolytes  

    Now let’s talk balance of the boat see we have one  sail here and one sail here now each sale has one   point where all the effort comes so you can put  you know everything that’s putting in one point  

    And you can do the same with this you know  like a center of effort and you can make   one point here now if you combine these two  points you would get one point and that’s   where all the forces are affecting  the boat anyway that’s complicated  

    What I’m trying to say is if we furl the  front sail which is pushing the boat down   then the boat is not balanced because we have a  main which is twisting the boat upwind you see the  

    Wind is pushing in here and then it’s twisting the  boat upwind if we put the main down and have only   the Jeep or Genoa it’s pushing the bow down so  the boat tends to go down now we have the Rudders  

    Which compensate for that now sometimes if this  effort is too big like you have a huge Spinnaker   or like Code Zero and no main going sideways the  you know the Rudders might not be able to control  

    That so the boat has to be in a balance and that’s  when the Rudders are a little bit pushing the boat   downwind see so right now the rudder should be a  little bit like this couple degrees it’s called a  

    Weather Helm but mostly you know straight a little  bit weather Helm but they should never be like   way too much that means something is wrong so if I  simplify again this sail is pushing the boat there  

    This sale is pushing the boat up if we have  both up the boat is balanced if we put one of   the cells down the boat is not in the balance  the Rudders try to compensate if it’s too much  

    Then they cannot and the ball just you know goes  whatever earlier we’ve seen that whenever you do   a big trim on the Main and you have autopilot  which is super slow the boat is just gonna you   know turn whatever Direction whichever the sail uh  you you were trimming but if you’re hand steering  

    You see you can be much more accurate but it’s  good to know that once you’re on an autopilot   of anyway either just by Compass or the you  know wind autopilot do all this stuff slowly   or just you know pay attention because yeah once  you reduce whatever you do with this sale it’s  

    Going to affect the balance it’s same goes for  the main so just like one thing to observe and   that’s why maybe notice that the boat is doing  some strange stuff it’s just the sale balance

    What to do with the ropes we use them daily  they get wet all the time so I just hang them   here it just seems like a good spot they get  dry and they’re like very quickly we can use  

    Them what you don’t want to do is put wet in  here it’s just not gonna work it’s not gonna   dry they’re just gonna get moldy and stinky so  you want to keep them out of course if you’re  

    Not going to lose them for a long time you know  don’t keep them out on the sun sun is not good   but we use them all the time so here they are  and it’s all good The Code Zero so this is this  

    Sale here in front fold I love this sale this is  like the best sale ever and especially this one   uh who was made by Supreme sales such a nice I’ve  talked about this so I won’t talk too much anyway  

    So should you keep it up or you should put it down  now there is UV protection but it’s not so good   it’s a little bit thinner than on these ones so  kind of would be better to put it off especially  

    If you’re not sailing now when you’re sailing  should you keep it like furled or should you put   it down now you can see this is kind of rough for  Croatia and you can see it’s moving a little bit  

    You see I would say right now it just kind  of makes sense it’s not too bad but when it   starts banging left and right too much then  you want to put it down it’s very easy so  

    Even uh you see I furled a couple times around  and also make sure that this rope whatever the   system you’re using is safe because these things  aren’t furl and they aren’t firm when there’s  

    A storm and when it does happen in the storm  you’re in a big trouble so you can keep it up   if you’re using it regularly so we use it all  the time so we keep it up if it’s very rough  

    I would put it down so it’s not banging too much  but always make sure if it’s up that it’s rolled   couple times more with the rope and then the  blue line and now it’s fixed like so there’s  

    No chance it can unfurl but then again you know  just put it down every time if you have a crew   or you’re not using it all the time because  the UV of course is not a friend for the sale

    Now we here because this chain this is the chain  well in you know when you’re lifting the chain   it just goes on top doesn’t collapse and then  eventually it hits the engine of the the motor  

    Of the winch windlass from down and it’s not good  so we made this hole and now with the stick we   can just hit it from here earlier we would have  to climb in but it’s a great solution and it’s  

    Too small I mean it would be nice just to have a  bigger opening and I keep the cover off because we   don’t we sell in Croatia there’s not much waves so  it keeps ventilation you know even when you close  

    You see you get air from here and it’s good for  the chain that it’s not wet you know it’s salty   already but if it dries out it’s much better for  the chain now another thing you have to be very  

    Careful is this windlass these winches they get  crazy and they just start releasing the chain for   no reason so to avoid this always put this on  this is the safety see I just hook it here and  

    In case the winch gets crazy it’s going to stop  anchor from falling in if you don’t pull it on   uh if it starts releasing you’re gonna lose all  the chains so it’s a small detail but make sure  

    You put the safety on every time like on the  42 Lagoon the anchor is mounted over the beam   so when you release the chain you have to also  to push the anchor across so it’s less of the   problem but here once the chain goes out  the anchor goes in the water immediately

    We’ve had this solution for the stand up and for  the plank for a while for one season now it’s   really good so basically just fits in here one  rope goes over very easy to use it’s really good   and the same for the plank say it’s  just like stainless steel like mounts  

    You put it here it works really well and  it looks uh looks good like I think all   these boats we have two standard pedals  one here one the other side and they’re   nice blue color and the bow just looks  very sharp from far away if they’re like  

    You know symmetrically and nicely put  I kind of like now this system a lot so safety wires there’s free but we’re just using  this one you know it’s just I mean I don’t like  

    The color because you don’t see and you know when  you walk if you don’t see you just you know you’re   gonna fall earlier if you don’t see so I think  these things should be of the red color so that  

    You can see them anyway if you have very small  kids close all of them but what I suggest is   to have just a rope normal thick rope with the  red color and put it across and that’s what we  

    Use when we’re crossing oceans so that people do  see where it is and it’s way safer now the dingy   the thing even there’s a lot of waves  starts going left and right and that’s   why we use two ropes so this is just the front  painter this is just the normal rope we attach  

    It here and it’s enough for today if it  would get rougher there’s already another   rope ready here and then I put it to that  side and it does magic it’s uh really firm   now if there’s rain never forget to open your  plug it’s closed now because there’s no rain  

    But don’t forget to do this I’ll put it  back because we’re gonna need it in one hour   but if your boat fills up with the water it might  be too much weight everything might break and I  

    Still love my Caribbean on this side so wherever  I come I can just hook to the boat or to the pier   and I still love this note I’ve done here this  is still the first rope it’s a special note   that reduces friction we’ve talked this  before my videos and the fenders you see  

    They’re all worn out but that’s because  the boat is not worn out now it’s a good   protection and I just love this red boys they  do the job exceptionally well and this system   we’ve done with the with these things you know  for a quick release when you go in the water  

    It’s like the best ever so we figure out now the  best solution I think it works really well okay so   now we’re gonna put the sails down and there was  one guy commenting that what I do is not right  

    So I’m gonna show you how he does or like we’ve  done that way many times and I’ll show you my way   and then you judge on yourself what is gentler  so the typical way of putting the sails down is

    And that’s how I don’t usually do I use  this method sometimes but mostly not   and I found this method very rough so I’m  starting the engines and we’re gonna give   some power slowly you want to be gentle you  know once you start wait a little bit so the  

    Oils starts circulating and then slowly give  some speed so uh you need a little bit of speed now usually what people do is you  know you get ready here with the ropes   so this is the the general we pull this to furl  the sail so we’re gonna set it on this winch

    And I’m gonna set the Gen of a sheet here   now there’s a trick when there’s a lot of pressure  on the stopper you cannot really open it you can   force it so you put a little pressure here and  then it’s very easy to open so usually what  

    People do is they say turn the boat upwind and  release the sheet so that would look like this   I’m just gonna use the wind autopilot so now we’re  gonna Point straight upwind and you release this oh do you see what the sale is doing

    All right so I need force and now my  apparent wind is 60 knots so that’s   how that guy was suggesting me to do that  my way is not good so of course I can now   foil the sail you know that’s how we used  to do it it’s all good I use this method

    But now let’s do it the other way so what I do is I steer the boat a little bit off  wind first so I’m gonna release the Mainsail down okay and then maybe a little bit on the main sheet and then we go even more downwind

    I’m also opening the Genoa now see  basically I’m steering kind of a downwind so now I’m gonna Engage The  autopilot just a normal one   and you can see now apparent wind is  only 10 knots earlier it was 17 knots  

    But because I’m going with the wind like  much less wind much less forces so we have   now apparent wind of seven knots super easy  and now look how gently I can fill the sail You see that’s it so there was like No  Force we halved the apparent wind speed   much less forced it was so easy to do it  now you know just judge by yourself is this   is better or that other guy commenting  was right now it’s nothing wrong to do  

    It upwind you know flapping but just like  why not use this so much easier and you’re   going with the way in window waves it’s safer  it’s drier I just think it’s a better method   I’m turning upwind now because for the Mainsail  obviously you have to go upwind so I’m gonna  

    Engage a wind autopilot I’m gonna set it  to zero so I want the boat to go straight   upwind earlier I had those five degrees now it’s  straight I’m gonna put a little bit more power   so that the autopilot can handle I’m gonna put  Mainsail in the middle and point straight upwind

    Okay now we can see that the sail is empty so I  get ready so this line This is the main halyard   is already down there because we prepared and  it should very easily go out hopefully it’s not  

    Tangled but you know it happens but always get it  ready first we’ve set the stopper it’s very hard   to open people take pliers and break no just  put a little bit pull a little bit so easy to  

    Open this is set this is another rope I’ll remove  this because always you know gets hooked and flies   around so I have to pull ing the cell down it’s  just auxiliary rope so just like tender gently  

    Sail is empty there’s nobody around autopilot  has control so all I have to do is you see as   I release this line but pull the other one see the  sale is going to go in the laserjack I’ll go like

    Oh like across these lines a little bit  anyway it’s okay so it’s good to have a   second person which is pulling this one now  if you’ve done everything right so I can keep   going like this slowly but if everything is set  correctly and you’re lucky you can do just this

    You say now it got hooked because  it’s not good but it’s okay so this is a fast method and it kind of works  so very simple very easy and then all I have   to do is you know I always hook the halyard  around the sail I climb up so I’ll show you  

    So I put these guys out climb up I hook it around here now I was still going upwind   it would be much smarter when you’re you know  fixing the sail to turn downwind again because  

    You go with the waves and you go with the wind so  it’s much easier but okay this time I just did it   like this but if you have a lot of wind a lot of  ways once the main is down just turn downwind and  

    You’re gonna have plenty of time you know to do  all the stuff so now we’re turning towards our Bay I’m gonna press just normal autopilot I’m gonna  give a little bit pressure on the main Hillyard  

    If you put too much it’s gonna bang against  the the must but you know just like just right   not much rope left and then this one  the black one we just nicely coil it

    These robes just tend to you know kind of tangle  all the time it would be nice to have more places   you know like a dedicated place for this one  maybe just in our sleeve but everything finishes  

    In here so it’s kind of messed up then I pull  the down there the main area of the main sheet okay we’re more or less ready and I usually  leave it like this until I get to the Bay which  

    Is down there and then I’m gonna close the back  because we have to protect it from The Sun Also   if it rains the water will get in the laserjack  everything gets heavy it’s not good so always  

    Close the lazy Jack and don’t forget know the  line behind which is holding the boom you see   now how the Boom is swinging so that’s why we  put that small line edges there it keeps it  

    Quiet and it doesn’t wear out all the time so  that was the easy way of putting down the sets we have just stopped in this beautiful  Bay and we have two ropes on the buoy   and these new cleats we have are doing a  great job now it wouldn’t be without my  

    Best assistant which is going to be promoted now   so for doing a really good job we’re promoting  you to the first officer so you can kneel foreign so I give you this hook uh because I trust you  

    And you do a great job and you’re  going to be a captain one day all right so I’m gonna throw this spaghetti back into the  laserjack so it’s kind of sometimes hard because   you’re here I know it doesn’t look the best if  they’re just hanging and then this is this rope  

    And this rope see I just attach it here like this make a knot so it’s very  easy now it’s preventing from   the boom Going left and right you see  it just connected here there’s no noise  

    No wear and tear or easy and then I’m gonna climb  onto the roof to go from this side and then I can   close the lazy Jack sometimes not easy to get  up here so I have installed this lines because  

    Without this it’s very dangerous so hold here a  little bit and the sides are very slippery you   see in this room goes like this if it’s wet step  here you’re done so it’s pretty uh pretty hard so  

    Hey camera guy is going to help me so all you have  to do is say it takes a minute to close the sail   and then I’m gonna clip this under and that’s it  see and then you protect from UV from the rain and it’s so easy so just clip clip

    Now most of the most of the sailors are lazy doing  this the owners would but usually just Skippers   and people who rent don’t the sale is being  destroyed but it only takes you know just a couple  

    Of seconds this is a good example you see the  buoy we have two ropes now one rope is on the top   and one rope goes under you see if you’re not sure  that the point on the top of the buoy is a strong  

    Point many times we go under now you’re never  sure exactly so it’s better you know to check   the buoy in this example probably we could be both  ropes on the top because this Loop is from steel  

    And goes through the buoy but now just in case  we have another rope under which is connected   directly to the line going to the concrete block  so it’s like even safer you know sometimes you   don’t know the condition of this Rod going for  the buoy so you know when you’re tied to the  

    Buoy don’t just like think this is safe usually  if I don’t know the area I would dive check the   condition of the buoy check the Rope or the  chain going to the concrete block or wherever  

    It’s attached so you know just make sure it’s in  a good condition because the boys snap and the   boys snap all the time I’ve seen I’ve heard many  boats going ashore you trust the boy but hey boy  

    Is not always safe sometimes your anchor is much  safer because you know you’re gonna drag slowly   and you maybe wake up in a at night you can hear  but when the boy snaps you see you’re down there  

    Ashore in like five seconds if your anchor is  gonna slip I mean anyway you wouldn’t anchor so   close to shore anyway but if you do still you see  it might slip and you might not hit but when the  

    Boy snaps it snaps and you’re sure there’s no no  safety now one of the method is if you’re not sure   and the wind is going to be consistent it doesn’t  work if the winds are variable let’s say this wind  

    Is going to stay like this for the next month I  can drop my anchor just to touch the bottom and a   little bit more in case or I can put you know like  even more chain but the point is if this snaps  

    The anchor is going to start rattling or  if I put a lot of chain in it actually   even might hold you know about a little  bit so it’s like a good safety feature we have this upgraded plank so we have these holes  here one here one here is the same on the other  

    Side so there’s a pin that you’ll pull to the  board in so it’s fixed here but then when you have   a very high Pier that’s always a problem that the  board is going to go left and right so this is a  

    Great solution so I put this rope here and around  so when the boat starts moving going left and   right up and down it’s gonna prevent from going  left and right and it’s still flexible enough  

    So that it gets stuck you know it’s not going to  break and it’s see if you have a long rope even if   the tide goes up and down if the board comes more  here or there you’re gonna have enough stretch  

    Or you can have just a board like this which  will always trouble because they fall in not   so stable this much is this one is much wider it’s  a great solution just fix it like this with a rope  

    And very good to put the spring lines so  we have one like here once like there but   if you put the cross lines they’re going  to prevent the boat from going left and   right and then also the board is not going to  fall off because that usually happens when the  

    Boat is moving a lot and then this board  goes up and down and then just slips down the day wind is now slowly going behind the sun  we just say because the sun you see is going  

    There so we say that he’s pulling the winds in  this direction and there’s two things you can   see if you look at our track you can see it’s  kind of going more and more we’re set to win

    But isn’t this nice I mean just look at this spot  I love this look at the water Blue Lagoon for 20   minutes out of split going to the marina and  there’s a huge storm coming you see when this  

    Is coming from the West you better run away and  the good thing now we have in Croatia this radar   so I can watch How It’s moving live so it’s  a pretty bad storm it’s gonna be here an hour  

    So we have just enough time to get there dry  hopefully a dog and then we’re gonna get the   boat wash that’s good we need the rings of  the boat so it’s nice to have a short storm  

    We’re gonna squeeze for this narrow passage now  super nice here so on the chart it looks kind   of this it looks super squeezy very narrow  and a lot of fun so it’s right there behind   this is a narrow passage we waited for the  monohull to come through and now it’s our turn

    So you can see down here it’s very shallow  they probably dig this a little bit   to allow for the boats you see you  cannot fit two catamarans through here   and there’s a little bit of  current and the wind is pushing us  

    Uh so you have to think about all this stuff  but hey we’re successful today good job captain but luckily it’s a really easy fix just take Allen  key now I should put Loctite or something which I  

    Don’t have so what I’m gonna do is I’m just gonna  say tighten this and check all the other pullers   we have around six of this on board same problem  with all of that since new boat on the delivery  

    They were like popping out such a bad design but  I think Loctite might be a good solution for this   uh but then again you see there’s nothing  on the screw they didn’t put anything   so if you ask me it’s the hurricane issue  and they messed it up big uh with these guys  

    So I found eight more screws it’s very  soft I’ve done this a year and a half   ago when the boat was new but now see  again eight of these were just soft this fan is the best invention of this here it  could be even bigger but it’s fine because here  

    It just gets so hot and now it’s uh it’s like  life is life is good so I can just sit here   and I can feel the air coming before it doesn’t go  through the boat and then it can be windy but here  

    Just shelter they’re just hot and uh yeah no even  if you open all the windows there just doesn’t go   through Andrea vergada Island this is very unique  place in Croatia we have those sand clips it’s   amazing swimming sport a small town down there  and very popular for day trips like the water  

    Amazing as always behind there a beach bar and I  sand the beach recommended to come here so nice look at this this is not like usual these  trees are not gonna be here for long  

    And I got so lucky so I dropped the anchor for  the dinghy now you can pull it out but hey I   always have an anchor drop an anchor far out and  then I just found this great uh Stone which has  

    A hole there’s actually a crab in there just tie  it here and the thing is gonna wait I mean you can   pull it out but it’s not nice to drink it this is  way better this is like a style like a gentleman  

    On top of the cliffs and this is ridiculous  look at this water just a short walk a great   sheltered Bay like a Paradise Beach you see it’s  not crawl it’s High season now it’s not crowded and then the other side that’s  where the sandy beach is

    A shallow water in between  there be careful with the boat so we just caught this young adventurer  so he sailed from that Island   all the way to here just enjoying and that’s what  we need we need young people like this adventurers  

    This boat was built by his grandfather his mother  learned now he’s sailing it’s kind of The Optimist   Style and here’s just enjoying a day sailing  in these beautiful winds so he came all the way   from that island and if you think that is close  it’s pretty far especially for the boat like this  

    And yeah it’s so nice to see now young  people and I think this young man   is going to become a big Sailor One Day hopefully  he builds a bigger boat and it’s gonna Sail the  

    Big Seas one day but that’s like me that is me 25  years ago exactly and that was like me that’s how   I started sailing I had this laser boat and I was  just cruising up and down Croatia and now just a  

    New generation I’m really really happy to see that  see he’s down there hard to spot him looks like   two small boat but with the right guy in the helm  you can sail even the small boat in this big area

I know a lot of your tips are not even presented in formal classes. Great job and I love your passion and sense of humor!
