The situation in flooded areas of Germany remains dire.
The German Meteorological Service predicts further precipitation.
The heaviest amount of rain is expected on Friday and Saturday in the north of North Rhine-Westphalia. The meteorologist expects less precipitation in the north around Bremen and Hamburg.
But the situation in Lower Saxony is still tense.
In the Saxon state capital, Dresden, the Elbe remained below the expected level of six meters. Two meters is normal. The level of the Elbe has been falling again since Friday evening, according to the government’s flood center.
In Lower Saxony, the areas affected are the Aller, Leine, Oker, Hase and Weser rivers in the southern and central parts of the country. The level measured Friday morning was above the highest reporting level in many regions. Downstream of the Weser, levels will rise even further, according to a report from the State Water Resources, Coastal and Nature Conservancy. Especially in the lower reaches of the Middle Weser, it is not yet possible to talk about an easing of tension.
