I love visiting motocamps around the world and this one in Alaska was one-of-a-kind. For the very first time in my life, I slept on a school bus. What an experience, I tell ya! Thompson’s Eagle’s Claw Motorcycle Park located in Tok is the place to be when you want a little bit of company with fellow riders.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don’t know my final destination or the duration of this journey.

Throughout my journey, I’m raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: https://gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

    #onherbike #advrider #motovlog

We made it! To Tok! It was a long day. This is a big place. We’ve got all sorts of options here. R.V. Cabins. Like, three petrol stations. So our motor camp… So I only found out about this motor camp yesterday from other bikers. So apparently, it’s somewhere here.

I mean, it’s always better than just the regular camping, right? So let’s check it out. [Intro Music] This is a bit out of the way. But look at this road! It’s so cool. It’s like, typical Alaskan road. Isn’t it? I think. ‘Camping this way.’ Motorcycle Park. And rental cabins. Hey! This is cool!

One way this way. Aww, what a gorgeous little spot. They have the greenhouse. The reception. Reception? Welcome riders. There you go. We have tent site, ten. Ambulance, thirty. Bunkhouse or bunk bus – that’s me. One. Twenty per person. That’s me. So far, I’m by myself. And a cabin, fifty. I feel like,

In the movie Into the Wild! This is our bus, Chillie! How cool! Isn’t it like the coolest thing ever? Oh my goodness, this is way too cool. Honestly! Into the Wild. How do we open the bus? No. No. Maybe at the back? A-ha! This is the entrance. That’s so cool!

And a table here. Someone can drive it. That’s Chillie. That’s our table there. I love it! It does feel hot inside. But that’s okay! It will cool down and in the morning, we’re just gonna go. So, so, so nice. I must say, it’s got good clearance. Even with my height.

Right. So we can take bed number this one, or whatever. That one. But I think… I think I’ll take the one just there on the exit. Yup. That’s us tonight. I don’t need to set up my tent. So good. Bed is done. OHB approved. I am getting so much better with this cooking thing. So, tonight’s dinner is pasta. It’s getting there, it’s getting there. An onion. Garlic. And tomato. Tomato is questionable. It was in my fanny for a few days. I don’t know. We’ll see

How we go with that. And hmm, look what I found! Hatch chilies. Green chilies from New Mexico. I found them… Where did I buy them? Where did I buy them? I think I bought them in Washington, and I was carrying them all the way… This stuff is amazing!

Anyway, so we’ll add all of that. I don’t know if it’s gonna work. This is what we’re eating. Chop, chop, chop! Chop, chop, chop! Oh my God, I haven’t cooked so much in my life! So often. I’ve kind of started enjoying it. What a great material for a wife, hey?

My gas is over. It’s done. No more gas. Well, we’re gonna have to go to the neighbors. To at least do the frying the onion and stuff. Pasta, I think, can develop over time. It’s nearly there. Yup. We’ll leave it. So wait. We chopped this. We chopped that.

Luckily, we have some friends here. People that we know. And we know they have plenty of gas. These are the guys I met on um… Where was I? Yeah, at, you know, the… Where was I? You know, when I went to the Arctic Circle and stuff. Yeah, that highway. Yeah. Sorry.

We’ll get ready. And we’ll go in. Steal some gas from them. I don’t know where they are, but they’re somewhere there. We’ll find them. Yup. We will. Questionable tomato. I think it’s not that bad. I don’t think we’re gonna die. By eating it. Right. Now we have to find some gas. So.

I went to the neighbor and he had a big bottle. We can finish cooking our dinner. Hi. Whatcha doing? Too cute. Okay. Right. Right, right, right. Tomatoes, onions are nearly done. Nearly. Right. Nearly, nearly, nearly. And now we’re adding this. They said it’s four servings, but this is like – I reckon I can just… I’ll put it all. She’ll be right. We’ll see if she’ll be right. Okay.

So this is how it looks like. This is my chili now. And we’re gonna mix it with pasta. So much food. And we mix it all up. And it’s good to go. So much food. Okay, officially we’re gonna try. So good. Well done. Your hair looks way better than mine!

This is Vanessa, the owner of the motor camp. So how long do you run this place? I’m open from May 15th to September 15th. And how many years? Since 2000. Almost 24 years. Two – Wow. Yeah. Wow. Okay, I have to ask you about the bus.

Vanessa, so what’s the story with the bus? How did it happen? [Vanessa] Well, um, we moved up here from Pennsylvania. And this is the bus that we converted in Pennsylvania, drove it up here, and lived in it for six and a half years while we built our cabin.

Right, so how was winter in a bus in Alaska? Crazy. Crazy cold, even if you was to put – put cardboard around the bottom to keep the air from going underneath, it still was very cold when it was fifty below outside. It would be pretty chilly. Even the –

We had a German Shepherd dog and she would climb up in bed with us. She didn’t wanna lay on the floor what it was that cold. Wow. Insane. [Vanessa] Yeah, so… Well, thank you so much for letting me stay on your bus. It’s got a lot of history.

Yes it does. Yes it does. Yes. Okay. Then you’re gonna ask me a question afterwards. We’re all in the frame. There you go. Look at these guys. I can’t get rid of them. No, no, no, we’ll follow you. We’re still here. [Kinga] Yes. No, you’re gonna follow me, ah?

Actually, I was following you. You told me about this place. So yeah. These guys are here. You guys are camping, right? Yeah. – Right. And this is your second time here. Absolutely. – Indeed. And so, now we’re gonna go and see… What…? The sauna looks like. [Kinga] The sauna.

Let’s do it. Let’s do it. That’s the water. That’s the water? Right. Okay. Normally, the roots could absorb them. [Kinga] Right. Uh-huh. And then the nice door. That’s the door? That’s the door. [Kinga] That’s the door handle? All right, let’s open the door. You have – Oh, wow!

    – To take off the boots before you go inside. Uh-huh. Oh, wow! This is so cool. It is how many degrees right now? Yeah, but it’s not that warm. It’s not that warm. How warm is it inside, in degrees, do you reckon? How many degrees? It’s only Fahrenheit. It’s 100 Fahrenheit.

Whatever that means. No, it’s not – So, thirty. [Kinga] No, it’s not too hot. It’s not too hot. Thirty, yeah. Thirty. [Kinga] Yeah. I think I could handle it. And the lower you get the fire, the cooler it gets. Right. Yeah, of course. Yes. So. Yeah, cool!

So, next to the sauna, we have…? The bike shed. The bike shed. Where you can work on your bike. And everything – What is in here has been donated. Really? And look at the tires. Is that the leftover tires? Yeah. So you can pick up a tire. Change it. Yeah. And

This is for the spare – The – I love the door handle! So cool. This is the bike shed inside. Wow. And all the tools. Everything has been donated. Wow. You can just work on your bike. And they’ve got everything here. Right. My sticker will go… Go… Here. I’m in!

You guys are ready? Is everyone ready for a group footage? Aww, look at you. Look at you. I’m so high right now. [Kinga] Fantastic. So, yeah. So we all met here. I’m so stoned. It’s only eight o’clock. Yeah, so. Guys, where are you from? I’m so stoned. I’m from Anchorage. Anchorage? Right.

And? The rest? Belgium. Belgium, yes, we know that. You’ve been on my YouTube before. So England, originally. From Vancouver. [Kinga] And? Vancouver. Kodiak Island. Right! And? Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. That’s right! So we’re all buddies now. Good morning! My night in the bus was excellent. And the plan for today is: go to Fairbanks. Tomorrow is a public holiday. And I’m supposed to change my tires in Fairbanks. I’m supposed to change my tires in Fairbanks, so I won’t be able to do it tomorrow.

I’ll save a day for two days. Work on my videos. Chill. And then, we’ll head to Fairbanks. So, here we go. Fairbanks. 200 miles away. Okay! It’s time to go. Before we go, I’ll do a spin around the camp. Because I didn’t really show you last night how –

What is the scenario here, all over the place. So… So, yeah. This is my bus for twenty dollars. Also, all the camps are twenty dollars. And the cabins are twenty-five dollars per person. But if you’re by yourself in a cabin with two beds, you pay twenty-five.

Which is great for solo riders, because normally I would have to pay full price. So this is it! These are all the campgrounds. This is Mike’s cabin. Bye! This is the kitchen. Another cabin. Another cabin. You can stay in the ambulance. That’s pretty cool. And that’s it! We’re turning around now.

So, yeah. This is where we – This is the fireplace. Common area, where we stayed last night. Okay, we have to turn around. There’s no way here. Okay. We’re out. Yeah, so, I think that’s just a dead end. And that’s it! This is… This is the motor camp. Super cool.

And like every now and then, you see like, there are flowers. Like, on each table, there are like, beautiful flowers. It’s so lovely. Yeah. Cool. Bye! All right! Time to go to Fairbanks, Chillie. Let’s do it, let’s do it, let’s do it. Bye-bye, bus. [Outro Music] And then –

    We’re gonna go for – Because actually – I – [Outro Music]

    1. That night was my second time at that campground…great place and fun host! It was fun meeting you there, Kinga, and then again at the gas station in Delta Junction! Ride safe wherever you are these days!

    2. I live in Alaska and have been to Tok dozens of times over the year. Vanessa is so cool and that campground may be one of the best motorcycle campgrounds anywhere. Also you missed an opportunity by not going to Fast Eddies Restaurant in Tok. Fantastic food and you will not go away hungry. It's an Alaska icon.Safe travels.

    3. Nice outtake.

Great campground. Good to know about the repair cabin.

I quit using an isopropane stove for the reason that you just discovered. I had no idea how much fuel was in a can, so I carried a spare and had to keep track of which one I was using. I replaced it with a firebox and an alcohol burner. I can burn wood – mostly sticks and twigs – charcoal, and alcohol. There's never a doubt about how much fuel I have. And I don't drink coffee.

And now that you bring it up, how tall are you?

    4. One day on a journey through the Appalachian Mountains USA, I was riding all day. Plus there were way too many detours that day. I finally arrived at the Motorcycle Campground where I planned to camp. The owner said that they had a small cabin available. Immediately, I said I'll take it. Luckily, It was a good rate. So I kind of know how you felt that day. Excellent video, cool.

    5. Traffic congestion and heavy passenger loads on public transport on school run routes may be worse on school days during term time.

Summer holidays for most children are a time to relax, enjoy themselves, catch up on studies, or spend time with family or relatives. Many families travel together on school holidays. School holidays have many effects on a country, ranging from the price of travel and holiday accommodation, which increase as demand increases while children are off school, to a change in crime rate.[1] The number of families taking holidays away from urban areas can reduce traffic and use of public transport in cities while loading long-distance highways and means of transport.

In some countries where many families travel to their holiday destinations, such as the Netherlands, the start and end dates of school holidays in different regions are staggered to reduce the heavy traffic and pressure on means of transport that would otherwise occur on these dates.[2]

    6. Another great video. you are never boring!

Kinga, any man, any woman, any human would be incredibly lucky to have you as a wife/ partner. Cooking skills or not. You're already bringing more than 50% to the table.
