Austria Biking Adventure: Starting a Ride on an Electric Bike through the Rolling Hills of Styria

Ready for an adventure, I decided to rent an electric bicycle, weaving through the charming streets of Weiz. The small town had just launched its bike-sharing system, featuring 60 regular bicycles and 20 electric bikes for residents and visitors alike.

My goal for the day was to spend a whole day cycling through the rolling hills of Eastern Styria. Venture into the countryside with me, capturing the breathtaking landscapes and the unique charm of this lovely region on the east side of Austria.

Okay just checking if the settings are okay on the camera right now with the iPhone everything is good to go I’m here in my hometown of vites today with the big summer Market Sumer Mark and this is the first time actually that uh they have this bike

Rental program it’s a brand new program that just opened today I got one of the first membership uh cards and you can actually rent bicycles they have 80 bikes 60 of them regular bikes and 20 electric bikes and uh got to go slow here but it’s allowed to actually go here and

Uh so yes so this is the first time that uh electric biking is available through the municipality here in bites in Austria and I’m taking Tak this opportunity to actually whoops a better wait here too many people okay yeah very popular event sorry got to make sure I navigate

Through the masses here and it’s a lovely electric bike that I got there I was very fortunate to be able to pick up an electric bicycle and uh it really makes a huge difference the range is about 80 to 120 km it’s a lovely bike made by Kettler

And the electrical system comes from Bosch so very high quality Equipment and I’m just shifting gears now in the wrong direction as usual so you can see the town is very very busy it’s got a lovely uh got a lovely um speedometer I’m going about 11 or 9 kilometers right

Now got to let these people pass but as you can see the city is very very busy today and the bike has I don’t know how many gears it has uh but on the left side here over here you can choose the level of assistance and when you go down the hill

Actually you um you you press minus here on the on the uh settings and that will actually recharge the bicycle which is awesome as well so we’re lucky here got the green light traffic gem even the small town has traffic jams let’s see if we can get across here what’s going

On okay we’re going to make it yeah very very busy day today I can’t believe it actually I’m just trying to think here if I should take a different route yeah because I’m not a big fan of big traffic on the main roads okay yeah I think I’m going to take a

Particular route oh I think it’s allowed to actually sightful here on the sidewalk that’s good I can avoid a little bit of this traffic here as you can see biking is very popular in this area of Europe in particular okay lots of people bike around and I

Was just talking to a lady actually who lives south of town and she said she usually gets a ride from her husband into town and she’s just going to take one of those rental bicycles and uh cycle home and put it in the in the station and be done with it
