All right so today we’re going to rebuild this Simplex Prestige and some tools you’re going to need are fly screwdriver some Allen Keys 8 mil wrench and a 14 mil wrench all right so this pulley over here is kind of hard to get to so we’re
Going to loosen the cage first pop this pin open and then we can get to it easier as you can tell this thing is really crusty look at that so yeah pull this cage back a little bit grab your Flathead and unscrew this little pin here you got that off this cage will
Just spring back like that and now we can unscrew the pulley all right so now you want to crack loose this cage uh you want to kind of hold it and loosen this bolt at the same time and if these can be really seized so a
Little trick you can put it against the table like this and just crack it loose and it should grip the table and yeah and then just go ahead and loosen it up you can unscrew the cage like that now just grab your 14 mil and loosen that as well
Just presses down bolt pops out got our spring as well and if you can’t get the spring out just grab your pick you want to push down where the spring hole is and it should pop right out there you go and now time for the peanuckle here
Just go ahead and loosen this nut it’s also a 14 all right now we got the little spring here just grab your Flathead and on screw like so and this thing should come out then go ahead and just pull out your spring all right so now we got everything nice
And taken apart now it’s time to clean this you can use like a cleaner or Greaser you just to use alcohol or brake cleaner but if you’re using something like brake cleaner or something harsh like acetone as well you want to stay away from plastic and this thing is was
A lot of plastic here and if there’s rust you can use like a steel brush or some aluminum foil and in my case I’m using this Ultra solic cleaner while I’m using is water and dish soap All right so now got everything all nice and cleaned down ready to go I also waxed down some of these Chrome bolts with some of this quick glow and yeah another thing you’re going to need for the assembly is some grease all right now first we’re going to put in the spring
Got it all nice and greased up here I’m using this Shimano premium grease just cuz this thing is going to be exposed to the elements out there and it’ll last longer it’ll prevent it from rusting so yeah go ahead grease it up and then you also want to grease up this little part
Here where the where it slides you want to pull up the parallelogram and then go ahead and find the hole in there and slide it in not sure if y’all can see but on the right side there uh there’s the little hole it’s kind of in the
Middle of the hole it’s in the middle of the parallelogram where the spring goes so go ahead head and get this little end and stick it in and you’ll kind of know once you got it in there it’ll be just sitting in there nice and good and grab your spring
And kind of just pop it up into that little Groove and as you see now it’s not lined up anymore we got to get this pin in here so you can kind of get a pick or something and just kind of pry this thing down like that see now it’s all
Lined up and grab your PIN and Screwed In All right so once you get the screw popped in you want to put this uh spring you want to pull it back out because it’s going to just cause extra tension on this and you don’t want that and to
Get it in uh this spring is going to want to go like up and not go not mesh with this hole here so what you want to do you want to if it’s not if it’s really far off you want to just pull this um screw it again put the spring
Back and hopefully that it lines up a better then you want to just stick a pick in here and kind of lift it up as you’re uh screwing it in so yeah best of luck to you it could take a while but yeah there you go yeah so once you catch
A few threads just screw in all the way like so until it stops you don’t want it too tight because it’s plastic threads you don’t want to strip those out and grab your spring and just pop it back in there you go all right yeah once you
Got the spring in just make sure it moves nice and smoth smooth another tip is to pull out this limit screw here so you can have more room to put that spring in and you’re also going to want to lube up these pivots later but I I
Like to do that when the derailer is all put together so yeah there you go all right so now time for the Pino coal you want to grease up this area nice and good in the back side as well and then grease it for spring nice and good as
Well does not matter which way it goes in both sides are the same there’s these two holes here uh the top one is the tighter one bottom one is the looser one I’m just going to go with the looser one these aren’t it’s not a race derailer so
You know there you go pop it in make sure it goes all the way down check that it’s popped in on the other side you also want to grab your bolt uh grease it up a little bit and then mesh it with the spring go ahead and pop it
Down like that all right now grab your claw it just goes on like so this is how you want it and then grab your nut and screw it on all right now you get this knot nice and snug and make sure the movees nice and smooth mine doesn’t really cuz kind of
Rubs in this spot right here cuz it’s you know it’s a Simplex so yeah all right yeah same thing for the be knuckle just grease it up nice and good at the bottom as well grease up your spring you want to grease up the tips as well so
Don’t they don’t get seized in there and locate the hole it’s like right right there that area and go ahead and slide it in yeah it does not matter which side you you put in they’re both identical so feel around make sure it pops in all
The way like that same thing grab your bolt mesh it with the hole then get your bolt make sure it pops down all the way like that and then screw on your 14 mil nut and yeah you don’t want that nut too tight just get it fingertight nice and
Snug and you can just feel with a Allen key stick it in here just make sure it moves nice and smooth you grab your cage you want it facing up this way and then just go ahead and screwed on and then it’ll kind of just screw on
On its own and once you get it screwed on uh you want to pull it around counterclockwise kind of 360 almost and then once you get it around you want to grab your little pin and screw it in there all right so just make sure that cage
Moves nice and smooth and we have our pulley here you want to grease up the inside of the plastic part nice and good grease up the inside of the metal bushing Slide the two together put on your little seals and put it on there you
Go and then go ahead and screw on your cage and yeah same exact story for this other pulley uh just get it nice and greased up tighten down the pulley bolts make sure they spin nice and smooth it’s kind of a stingy thing but I like to have the
Logos facing up on both of these yeah here’s how the clamp bolt goes on and the little claw hanger thing you want to know how to restore the plastic just get some WD40 or some chain oil just kind of rub it all on here it’s pretty cool how
It restores the original dark look of the plastic so yeah pretty cool Lube up these pivots as well cuz these are it’s all plastic derailer again I mean it has this it has some steel but these are really known to seize up so you want to keep these nice and lubricated and yeah
So yeah these things don’t perform very well you know they’re not very reliable um but if you drown them in oil once in a while they might not be too bad the plastic might fade but again just drown it in oil so yeah I hope you found this
Video useful in some kind of way and I’ll see you guys bye
