He had olive skin very high cheekbones so uh what do you do for a living I work at what do you do I work in a restaurant I’m 25 I’m from the north of Cyprus straight away his mannerisms with me no put me off he was too forceful he

Just assumed far too much I am assistant manager at a pizza place near Baker Street he had spiky dark hair and he was stocky built their accents were Mediterranean I’m going to buy you a drink why not we didn’t even like these guys we just thought hey why not have a tequila it’s

Free I went to beach to get the tequila and the guy wouldn’t let me have the one that was nearest me he gave me another one I know I’m going to wake up with you I’m not letting you out my sight I’m going to the lose I thought it was just a very terrible chat up line but it wasn’t actually in the bar in the public area he wasn’t being too aggressive in

The toilet downstairs he was that was scary no on the way back upstairs he pushed me up against the wall again and a guy came out of the toilet there he must have thought we a couple guessing it on in the club because he had me up against

The wall which I thought was quite a shock cuz I was really obviously in distress and like no I don’t want this quite a nice crowd in now I thought it all seemed to be very big groups I can remember actually speaking to a guy who mentioned a stag night but that

Wasn’t for very long cuz hammed got stressed and pulled me away and me and mate were looking at going at that point cuz they were doing our heads in these guys which is a shame cuz we wanted to stay there cuz it was a nice place have another drink no we

Meeting friends just B we must have them we were going to leave anyway so we just s have this tequila and get rid of them and go it was just almost like walking into a furnace my body just went really hot so much I was Dripping with sweat and that’s all I can

Remember literally it’s just like the curtain coming down I can’t remember anything I didn’t wake up I came around it was really quite strange we were in his bed in a bedroom my mind suddenly started to function I think but my body wouldn’t I felt numb still get your stuff together

It wasn’t until he threw me my clothes then it started daing me the rape thing this isn’t right this shouldn’t have happened I firmly believe I was raped by one of the guys but it may well have been two I woke up in one room my friend woke up

In the other she can remember having sex with the one that I was having sex with and then I could remember feeling really dazed really not knowing what’s going on it was a nice flat it could almost I suppose see be seen as a designer flat the walls were very bare

Very white like a 60s style tanned sofa which was leather it only looked half lived in the sofa was here and when we left we had to walk down three flights of stairs come on we’ll have to go to work tell me what happened when they got you

Outside they walked us to a red Fiesta it was in an open plan car park in the middle of about three or four lowrise blocks it’s almost like a bad dream you’re trying to piece together things you don’t even know my friend found her glasses case and that’s how we realized

We would been in the car we could remember being in the car I come Mo being any car we drove for 5 or 10 minutes and then they dumped us outside hamster tube station which direction did you come from up this way the tube was on our

Right Maggie we got to be careful that eits after all aren’t photographs but these you think are reasonably good just take us through piece these descriptions together can you they’re very good um descriptions that the girls gave us uh one man’s been described as 25 years old

About 5′ 7 pointy features and high cheekbones um and well toned well- built body and he called himself hammed um Mediterranean in appearance and the other chap was about 5′ 6 slightly smaller stocky builds again Mediterranean in appearance he said he worked in a pizza restaurant in the

Baker Street Marley born area and they both indicated they probably came from northern Cyprus which would make them Turkish Cyprus but I possi do you believe that or is this just a yarn they spun the girls it could be a yarn that they spun um equally it could be true it

It could be that they are what they say they are now another really good clue the girls were describing the flat obviously they were fairly woozy but there were three Flats around three buildings as they came out to the car they’d gone down three flights of steps

And this almost designer clean flat up there and what is presumably the second or third floor is very hard to tell from that description just take us through that flat what they told you about it they’ve mentioned some quite interesting detail about the flat uh there’s a

Living room they’ve mentioned a 60 style tan colored leather sofa and they said there was a coffee table there with a big box of condoms they mention or they remember the condoms on the table I mean that’s you don’t go into most people’s Flats found a big box of condom so

Anybody else who’ been into that flat must have seen that or even it was kept in in a in a Cupboard they must know these two guys and know somebody’s to keep they might remember that that might be a detail that they remember or somebody’s memory there was also a

Bedroom a large bedroom with um a bed that had a rot iron headboard which they remember particularly um and then there was a smaller bedroom with a small bed in the corner under the window with a blue cover on it there was a two bedroom flat now the where they were taken from

The Matt and Matt bar they actually quite liked the bar that wasn’t involved in this in any way except this is where it took place now taking place there at the same time was a stag party have you found any of the people who were at that

We haven’t and we’re very very keen to trace anybody who was at the stag party the man whose stag party it was or anybody who was in that Pub on the night in question which is the 18 Saturday the 18th of May Saturday the 18th that’s

Right yes now the red car they went away we we used a an old Fiesta red fiesta in the Reconstruction you don’t know the registration number the girls didn’t get that but you’re pretty clear about the type of it it was an old style Fiesta an

Old box style Fiesta um and when this car took them from the flat to hamster tube station was about a 10-minute ride on a Sunday morning so perhaps that’s something that somebody might think about you absolutely convinced so your colleagues that the girls are absolutely telling the truth about this this really

Happened and the the worrying thing is that the way these men behave one suspects that this has happened before maybe several times before it may have happened before and if there’s anybody else out there that recognizes the eits or anything that’s come up in the Reconstruction or even a line that was

Mentioned to one one of the girls in the bar I’m going to wake up with you tomorrow um or something along that line perhaps that’s a line that’s been used before okay it’s um it’s a horrible crime and it’s one that obviously we’re worried is going to happen again unless

Near Gatwick in Sussex must have been terrified when these men jumped over the counter one of them threatened him with a knife the others stole cash and phone cards This man and woman got chatting in the early hours last May at first he seemed friendly but suddenly he turned on her she fought back but was dragged to a nearby garden and sexually assaulted neighbors came out when they heard her screams and he ran away who is He this is a back office at the high Cross Pub in leester this man somehow gets to the safe and steals several £00 detectives also want to talk to him about a similar incident in another leester pub called Branagan if you can help ring us 0500 600600 the discovery of Millie Dowers remains in Hampshire 6 months after she went missing has ended the torturous uncertainty for her family and it’s given Sor police a new Focus for inquiries detectives of course have had already colossal help from the public

Home it was one of the most horrifying crimes police have seen in Years Angel SE and the meni Straits last December we appealed on a murder that was so unusual and so horrific that police had withheld many of the details mayel Leon a 90-year-old had been killed in her own home Lael a friend had gone around as usual on the Sunday but couldn’t get an

Answer at the door oh my God police found Mrs Leon sitting in a chair she died after being repeatedly stabbed what they didn’t divulge was that her heart had been cut out and left at the scene blood had been removed moved and two Fireside poers had been laid out in a

Cross they were concerned that if they revealed all these details it might cause panic but they had other reasons too there is always going to be a need to hold information back so that there’s a unique relationship between the senior investigating officer and his or her team and the offender some bit of

Information that only those people will know but when the leads all came to thing the detective superintendent decided the bizarre Clues were his best hope it was an opportune time to release information about the removal of the heart and I was looking at any locally based incidents of an odd nature that

The community might wish to tell us about but it clearly is delusional it is strange behavior and I would expect that the individual responsible has demonstrated some strange behavior in the community prior to the killing do you think he would have known mayel the thoughts are that there would have been

Some prior content with her not necessarily close contact but he would have been aware of her and the location 160 calls came in two of which told the police to look at an incident reported to them earlier that year it involved a um foreign student a German girl who was

Staying temporarily in the area that had befriended uh a boy who was also um living in the the area he had suddenly started behaving strangely and invited the girl to bite his neck he also talked about immortality he talked about vampirism and that vampires should bite old people suggesting that they’re going

To die anyway that information was extremely useful to me and my inquiry and as soon as we were able to identify who the person was involved in that we were knocking on his door he was Matthew Hardman a 17-year-old art student and he fitted the profile in many ways he was

Local he lived only a quarter of a mile away from Mabel he knew her by name and as he delivered her local paper he also knew where she lived a teenager’s been arrested in connection with the murder of a 90-year-old woman on the aisle of angle SE Matthew’s computer was seized and we

Were able to show that he had been accessing internet sites dealing with vampirism dealing with cardiovascular system of the body and also interestingly dealing with DNA from Footprints left at the scene police were able to draw up an impression of the offender’s shoes Matthew Hardman were identical then Mabel’s DNA was found on

A knife in his coat pocket and finally traces of his DNA were found at the murder scene he pleaded not guilty but the jury was unanimous he was convicted in August this year and given a life Sentence it’s sometimes a very fine line between tragedy and fast our next case was dangerous uh at times even a little dangerous to reconstruct but the actual crime 6 months ago left two armed robbers literally red [Applause] faced a dark car possibly a Scorpio like this was seen parking at 8:30 one

Tuesday morning this all happened back in March in a picturesque Market town in hartfordshire Bishop stford is quite an affluent town uh with a very low crime rate in General on the same morning Tuesday March the 12th this white escort was left in Barrett Lane this in the Reconstruction is the actual

Car one witness has told police he saw two men walking around the town acting suspiciously he placed them in North Street around 10:00 get your mate to open up I’ll blow your head [Applause] off oh who hang On several people saw the escort driving recklessly through oneway streets and one was afraid for her [Applause] Life this is Pinelands at about 10:45 where the dark Saloon had been parked 2 and 1 half hours earlier the escort was abandoned along with lots of Clues the Scorpio turned left onto the Newport Road in the direction of the M11 roundabout where it encountered heavy traffic if you were there you might

Recall what happened next I think in many aspects it wasn’t particularly well planned albeit that they had a change over vehicle they used gloves but certainly they must have been surprised when the uh the Box exploded with the red Dy the dye is indelible and the orange

Smoke is choking the robbers would have been coated in it as they cut across three lanes and join the a120 towards Colchester we’re keen to trace the vehicle and any sightings of um orange people as say it’s fle but it’s also of course deadly serious a gun that Reckless Getaway past pedestrians and

Really weaving through heavy traffic but however Dar it sounds the robbers really will have been orange men their hands their faces their hair their clothes will have been absolutely caked in it and the money well a lot of it will look like this either have been ruined

Completely or marked with orange dye at least around the edges here and Fraser Jones it will stink of um Fireworks it will absolutely accurate smell and so will their their car presumably because that’ll have been covered in in red dye and the lining will and that stench

Would have been in it for ages the car would have been very smelly it would have been stained for some time even right up to the current day what about the guys themselves how long would they have been stained We Believe for about 48 Hours depending on what solvent

They’ve actually used to get it off their skin and their hair as well their clothes will will be saturated with this Dy somewhere will have seen them like that okay so there are people out there who definitely know would have stolen this stuff they’re left behind a whole

Bunch of items as we’ showed now some of them let me just show you this first of all you can explain this to us this uh broken Volkswagen key that was left behind in the white car that was left behind in the white es score that’s an

Oldfashioned key We Believe fits a golf which is obviously not the key for the car has anybody recognize that or can put that together where that came from we saw this glove dropped I’m not going to take you B takes out of the specimen bag because we don’t want people ringing

About gloves but what’s the significant of that glove and this rather ordinary looking bag well perhaps on their own not the great deal but um certainly in that vehicle all those items together or outside of the vehicle all those items together May well jog someone’s memory course one thing you haven’t found is

The original of this the thing that exploded and caused all that all that red D this would all be covered in red of course it’s Jolly heavy and it’s pretty indestructible plastic it is and that box will be out there somewhere it might be that someone knows where that

Is but doesn’t know the significance of it they might be walking back dog past a ditch it maybe abandoned somewhere perhaps someone knows because of the chase because of their driving they did attract a lot of attention to themselves do you think there Witnesses out there haven’t come forward or just pretty much

Everybody in Bishop stford around there we’re fairly confident we’ve traced a vast majority of the witnesses to the offense we’re always happy and Keen to hear of people who might be able to help us further though the white car now you’ve traced that of course youve

Recovered that because we used it in the Reconstruction where did it come from we know that car was bought in a public house a Tollgate Public House in the beckton area of East London um by two men for £50 beyond that we know nothing of the movements and we’re hoping

There’s someone out there that can help us and the dark car which we think is a Scorpio not entirely sure the dark car is still out there somewhere I believe there may well to this day be standing on that vehicle particularly in difficult to reach places perhaps a

Window seals perhaps a cigar lighter Etc well I suspect that the uh robbers aren’t cry much viewers or they have known that money boxes like these are routinely booby trapped with smoke bombs let’s really trap them this evening who were the orange people where are they tonight there’s an £85,000 reward for

The first correct answer that leads to a conviction 0500 600 600 now let me just update you on some of the calls we’ve been getting in do you remember the first case we showed you the case in Islington in North London two girls who’d had their drinks

Spiked and they were then raped it’s very difficult case for the police because the girls were drugs so they can only remember fragments we’ve had a fantastic response on that um a possible witness has come forward from the bar that night that’s key A lot of people

Who are linking the these two men uh with the St John’s Wood area they’ve been given names locations where these people may work where they may live that area is very close to isington where the the um the girls were were picked up in this bar two women have come forward who

Believe uh the men it may be the same men who do the same thing to them police also going to be try and get back to them and get a possible sighting of both men in a nightclub in Camden which is just up the road from isington so a very

Difficult case but some fantastic information coming in keep calling if you know any more about that case this next casee should be familiar to you we’ve appealed on it on crime watch it’s had a lot of attention in the national press it’s had a profound effect on the officers investigating they’ve held

Their own memorial service to the victim they’re utterly determined to find his Killers it’s just over a year since the Torso of a young afro Caribbean boy was discovered in the temps police named him Adam and last Saturday they placed a wreath in the river at the spot where

Quite specific lines of inquiry now will the kind of detective work you’re doing now is unprecedented in any murder investigation anywhere in the world isn’t it that’s right it’s Unique and groundbreaking basically we pulled together scientists from various different disciplines and give them a task really to find try and find out

Where Adam came from and these are the type of scientists that not don’t normally work on this type of case they’re from various different backgrounds but they some of them deal with archaeological remains and normally work on TV like programs like time team so we gave them a task and uh they

Succeeded were you able to find out where you think Adam as your calling you may have come from yes they’re very um scientists are very certain he could have come from one of of three particular areas of Precambrian rock all in West Africa now the first of these is

Centered in the middle of uh Nigeria the area around the Jos Highlands the one to the um west of Nigeria europan Plateau goes into benine and Togo and just touches into Ghana and the one to the east just goes into Cameroon as well how are you able to be so precise well

There’s two things first of all we looked at the DNA and we looked at the mitochondrial DNA which is inherited down the maternal line and the Y chromosome DNA inherited down the paternal line both of these points are An ancestry of West Africa secondly we’ve looked at the bone in some detail

And the chemical composition of the bone which reflects the diet of the child therefore reflects the geology of the land where he was brought up and our scientists are now quite certain he’s from one of these three areas only these three areas in the world amazing how

Able to pieced it all together and then you think he came to to England while he was still alive that’s right other tests on bone tissue say that um it was probably a very recent arrival but into the UK and then we’ve looked at the

Pollen content of of his of his gut and that shows you that he was walking the southeast of England absolutely that that shows that he breathed in air that’s that’s in the southeast of England in the days before he died now you when you you scientist looked at his

Intestine looked into his gut and you found all kinds of of of something that made up a potion the kind of concoction in there that was amazing really and and we didn’t really expect it but what we’ve looked what we found there is various items very different ingredients

Have been pulled together and basically Force feds of the child now we’ve got some some some microscopic slides the kind of things you found first of all fragments of bone let’s let’s take a look at that where would that come from do you think we don’t know this is

Ground down bone um and it could be animal bone but even more bizarre it could even be human bone and we’re trying to find that out but there’s a there’s a big quantity of that in in his intestine and then another thing was Clay a little pieces of clay with with

Little fragments of gold in what about that yeah the scientists have described these as as again unusual they’re pellets of clay um embedded with with pieces of pure gold and we can give no explanation for that logical explanation of why they should be inside the young

Child and that again this is some part of this this this potion as you think it was it was certainly mixed together with um the ve with some vegetation and um the items you saw earlier and combined and and force fed to the child well let’s look at the vegetation well we

Again we’ve got a microscopic SL that this isn’t going to mean a whole lot to views unless I imagine they have some kind of scientific or specialist knowledge and those are the people you’re hoping to hear from tonight do you know anything about this at all no

We don’t we’re we’re still trying to find out what item of vegetation that is but it but it’s the whole principle of putting vegetation with these other items together that people from some of the uh cultural communities can help with and there’s finally one other thing again a total mystery there little

Fragments of what is this quartz yes absolutely we we’ve um employed geologists on this and they’re baffled with this which is amazing some of the top geologist on the land and they just cannot Source this item so anywhere in the world anywhere in the world so we

Asking for any scientist out there who can help or someone who can put the combination of all these ingredients together and make some sense to it all these ingredients put into a potion you think probably in northwest Africa I think that’s where he came from well you

Think that’s where he came from he probably consumed this potion well we know he consumed this potion probably in the UK and we know that contestant his body now we think that someone in the African communities can put some some meaning to it and can help us here okay

1976 Jeff small was a father of two who ran Sheila’s news agent in West me Road in saton s how’s the wife and kids all right they’re fine thank you the business used to be my grandparents and when they retired my father took over the Shop’s your job and everything it’s

He worked very hard and built it up I’ll see you later he was very popular he used to say that working in the shop was like going on stage even if he felt rough or he was tired or um had a headache he always used to go out there

With a smile he had a job to do and um he was a person’s person definitely my father used to get up early in the morning because the papers would be delivered to the shop all his friends and all the people that live locally knew that he had his

Routine they would know what time the shop would open what time the shop would shut someone must have gone in through the side gate of the shop from a later statement we know he looked a bit like this he was then in his mid-40s and fairly small m

We used to live where the shop was but we just moved away we wanted to have a separate home away from the shop premises so that we could feel like we had somewhere to escape to and be a proper family together and he achieved that but in fact we’d only been there a

Month so he really didn’t live to appreciate it which was very sad not many people knew they’d moved out of the shop nor that while the shop had an alarm system it didn’t protect the rooms at the back the killer took Jeff’s wallet and a hold do containing the takings from the

Shop he did have a couple of regular customers that were coming off night shifts and things and although he wasn’t really open he always used to let them in and serve them morning good morning he was wearing a check jacket and dark trousers and the witness said he was slim and only

5’5 he had a couple of people that used to come in and help him mark up the papers for the paper rounds so they used to be in the shop very early thank everyone stand these were left behind I found them on the cooker Hood okay good whoever got in through the window

Had unusually small feet size six I still feel very angry after 26 years that somebody has murdered my father and taken his life away it would be nice for him to see his children grown up with their own children you know I wonder would he be proud of me I mean I’ve done

Nothing special but you know would he be proud of me the way I’ve turned out and the way my brothers turned out and we’ll never know Daman obviously the family have been living with this throughout but why have you suddenly returned to it with such energy and such

Uh resources well we’ve received a significant new information um that we’ve been working on for some months now um yes it’s 26 years later but 26 years down the line we haven’t closed the books and uh we’re determined to achieve Justice for the small family what sort of information have you got

Well for operational reasons I can’t disclose this at at the moment but suffice it to say that we’re working on significant leads at the moment the description of the guy who was coming coming out of the side gate beside the shop and that’s presumably the the killer is actually pretty good one he’s

Fairly small 5′ 6 very small shoes 6 what just remind us whatever else you know about him well he was 5’5 5’6 tall white he had dark frizzy hair he was wearing a forn jacket with brown checks on it and significantly a foot impression was left at the scene which

Was a size six which at the time was very significant and still is now it represented 2 and A2 % of the male adult population yes quite significant he’d be what he’d be in his early 70s now that’s right yes he was about 45 years of age

At the time and the sort of guy he was I was intriguing watching that reconstruction how he got in was it was he a burglar how did he know how to get into a the premises like that well clearly he was very versed in in breaking into this shop perhaps the

Individual concern was a very experienced B burglar it was thought at the time and there was press publicity at the time saying whoever did it was a professional assassin was he all that professional if you looked at the Reconstruction looked like the first few shots missed certainly viewed at the

Time as being a professional contract killing we take a different view 26 years later two shots that were fired the first two shots completely missed quite closely absolutely yes so clearly not the professional hit that was it was first thought you brought this this weapon here which is a Hungarian p37

That was issued to German soldiers during the second world war not very common you relasing this because a gun like this or something like this you think is is the one that was responsible for the murder still outstanding it’s it’s a 32 uh uh in uh

Caliber or a 7.65 mm caliber um it’s one of uh could have been one of six automatic pistols that being the most likely one um what I’d appeal for is where’s that gun now I’d like to know the whereabouts of that gun because clearly that significant information I

Mean what was the motive for this well a motive explored at the time and subsequently that was that Mr small had had an affair um I’m keeping an open mind as to the motive um clearly this was a contract killing I’d appeal to anyone who could tell me the name of of

The Killer and perhaps the the man or woman that contracted this killing well it is curious but Kat really has had extraordinary success with these cold cases sometimes going back even further than this one so let’s crack this one call here or call the instant room on 020 8649 one5
