Mastering Warley Bike Park Ep2 – 42 year Old Learning To Jump A Bike

Welcome to the second episode of a series I started and never finished about 9 months ago.

Today I am at Warley Gap Bike Park in Brentwood Essex touring and attempting to master each section of the park.

Working on my bike jumping in the last few months um so rather than talk about all the depressing stuff that’s been going on in my life I want to keep this video nice and happy and talk about how I’ve been progressing at my local bike park and we’re going to carry on the

Series which we started what at the start of this year the start of 2023 something like that um which was mastering my local bike park warley uh so here we are so I believe the last time we was here and I done this series this was the very

Last feature that I cleared or attempted to clear right yeah yeah I’m pretty sure it was oh wait actually the last time we was here it was my other son my eldest son Tyron was behind the camera and today we’ve got my youngest son Kyle behind the camera and I’m hoping he’s

Going to try and outdo his brother with the camera skills we going have some brother brotherly rivalry today Kyle yeah definitely you’re going to outo tyum with the camera skills yeah 100% cool right okay so yeah the last time I was here um we finished on this feature

That’s right we finished here um the trails up there are atrocious I’ve done a little bit of work on them over the last couple of weeks but not much it’s not worth us hitting this soon as you guys have already seen it that’s what you’re here to see you’re here to see Wy

B Park and maybe me do some jumps and hopefully not crash because I did crash just at the top of the hill up there um um in the last video we’ll show you guys a quick clip of that hopefully no crashes today we take a look down the trail and see what we

Got guys so once you land off this feature which is I believe I did clear it I’m sure I cleared it in the video we have to check back and have a look at that so we got some really bogy little sections through here I find I lose lots

Of speed after that last jump so the buggy section here it’s not the end of the well kind of go around the this section is really bad here go really muddy we’ve tried to keep here this is the new line that I now kind of work on and focus on you can see

It’s been maintained by me quite well it’s running quite fast I would usually start about here if I’m not doing a full run and coming through so um that’s another way in this way here but uh I feel like this way on my dirt jumper it

Can be a little bit rough um I’m only on a hard tail dirt jumper there’s some really Savage roots to stick up around those bins I can do this way but we’ll save that for another day perhaps let’s take a look at this line guys come we got a little bit of root

Which my my little dirt jump I can handle this fine problem so the grand starts descend here go down my little dirt jumper I’m pedaling like crazy through here the guys on there in duros and Fu and stuff like that um they seem to put in way less

Pedals than me but I think there something to do with the size of the wheels right because I got a smaller wheel I’ve got a ped whe right yeah this little birm here I’ve been trying to maintain this I might do I might give this another little rake

Actually again today quickly before I ride this can be quite slippy coming through this burm here got this nice little double roller kind of table here I had to cut back some of the Holly so it doesn’t take your eye out when you come over but it’s a nice

Little thrill when you come over and you feel the top of your helmet kind of brush through the the leaves here so I can clear this quite well and easily this Bend here can be a little sppy um kle has done some work here already this morning right at bur a

Little bit for me so it’s nice and smooth I won’t S too much okay so here’s the first serious table for this line This is called the table line um if it does intimidate you you can slip around and pass around it I haven’t had a chance to rake that out

I’ve solely been focusing on keeping the jumps clear cuz not many people come here and roll around it to be honest let if I can get up without slipping you might want to go around the side camera man I don’t expect you to get up F you

Get to see the jump then um I believe this is about 18 ft this jump from the lip to The Landing point now this jump I don’t know what it is about this jump I’ve tried so many times to clear it and I believe I’ve only cleared it twice

Ever um often I’m landing and casing very very close to The Landing here one nasty thing to note about this though is this nasty rut that runs right through the landing Point here um I don’t like that I don’t really like Landing in that um but it’s going to happen for me no

Matter what was it smack bang where I need to be to line up for the next jump really which is a shame so that’s a big table that’s a big feature for the first main jump um hopefully today I’m going to clear it on camera I’m really hoping

I am cuz this is like what we’re at the end of the year now this is my last time of this today I say before the end of the year if I don’t clear this today I’m not clearing it in 2023 and I’ll be really disappointed in myself I definitely want

To clear some more of these leaves out here little bit of a wet P there no major issue we can go around that this is a long jump I haven’t measured this one out I think I have measured it out but I cannot remember what it is it’s a bit

Shorter than that one I believe I think it might be around 15 ft again this one you can pass around if it intimidate show you can go around but what I love about this jump is you jump between these two trees which looks really cool especially if the cameras from over

There and you see the Black coming from the tree down there looks great but it is a long jump this is a very long jump I mean to be fair he’s a good chance he’s the same size as the one up there I have to get my tape measure out

Again and start measuring these up so I can be sure again it was a long time ago when I first measured this is really slippy cameraman I do not recommend going down this way cuz you’ll end up on your F this is the much sa decide to come down should have done

Yeah and despite my best efforts trying to keep this line clean it just gets keeps getting covered with leaves and that Landing like take a look back at the Landing it’s quite it’s quite long it’s quite steep it is a little clay and a little slippy be fair I’m going to be

Honest matter how much I try and groom that Landing it is always slippy when it’s been wet and raining so here we go this is a great roller fure here as you come through here you’re going to gain so much speed and momentum um and you just feel like you’re going

Too fast for the next feure that you’re about to hit uh the next big jump is actually notorious here for people um but I’ve be super lucky and i’ get to be touch wood as you come over that roller it’s going to push your speed you’re going to

Hit this burm and that’s going to give you even more spe get another roller here and then a drop in and all of the these these fre features here are going to boost your speed load and then this is this is the notorious jump that lots of people have

Been bucked on lots of people have gone away with serious injuries on um but I’ve been really lucky it’s something about the lip um everyone complains it’s too steep but my method is uh I try and keep my weight back just a little keep my weight back just a little until the back

Wheel has cleared the lid um is what you make rewind that and what you may not know is when you look at a jump you may think if you’re new to this when like when I was I imagined my wheel would go straight up into the sky but it doesn’t what happens

Is is when your wheel leaves the front the front wheel leaves the lid it starts to go forward straight away it doesn’t just go launching up into the egg starts to go forward straight away because of the inertia involved and then what happens is the back wheel can’t move

Forward yet it can only continue to go up so now as your front wheel starts to go forward your back wheel is coming up this creates that effect like a seesaw effect starts to bring the back wheel up and that’s when you get a buck as we

Call it and a lot of people it’s happened to and you end up flying through the air with the front of your nose down and it ends atrociously but I’ve been super lucky so far it hasn’t happened to me now this is another one I think this is definitely the smallest in

Length out of the other two tables I am getting very close to the landing and once again I really do hope that today I’m clearing these in this video and we can move on to Action Man line and I can show you guys that it’s a lot it’s a

Tall order for one day but hopefully we work hard we’ll get this video done huh cameraman yeah definitely uh quite slippy Landing I’m going to try get down it this might be a perfect foul video here actually quite if you like you have the option of

Getting this turn it like a hip jump you can come over and kind of land turn in the air and land and come down there and finish up here the trails do go on a little further but they’re an absolute mess we’ve just been focusing on these

Main jumps really keeping them clean I couldn’t ride that on my dirt jumper no way at all okay so what should we do now should we uh take a little break get ready and do some riding yeah in all it oh sorry guys I had to do some repairs on

The bike something’s not running right with a bike uh we may have to end this early because of it and there’s a damn helicopter coming over at the top just let the helicopter Pass So yeah uh has to do some repairs on the bike maintenance on the bike should I say not repairs um cuz something doesn’t seem right so we may have to end this early this session but we’re going to give it a go we’re going to keep riding

Until the bike fouls on me um we’re now going to quickly have a look for some good camera shot angles Wo this what we’re going to do guys my free dedicated cameraman are going to keep filming me until I clear each one of these jumps and each time I get to landing at least or as close as I can get to Landing we then move down to the

Next jump and then we’ll kind of string it all together at the end for you guys hopefully it works out okay we’re going to take a little break for now I’m really struggling to get over them jumps it’s purely my own fear of bucking I know if I compress which is

What I’m not doing when I look back at the clips I’m not compressing I’m not going to get the extra height and distance I need um and that’s from my fear of just getting up so high and then bucking and going down those heavy I’ve got to get over that but maybe we’ll

Move down we’ll get some of the other jumps um see how I do on those and preps if there’s Time come back later in the day and I’ll try and push to clear these uh huge massive table jumps for now we need a little break catch you in the M guys

16 17 16 and 1/2t 5 m 5 m he smack bang on that’s like 16 and 1/2t that’s a big jump that’s that’s where the other one was there that’s 5 m there so this actually is a bigger jump it’s way less intimidating so that’s 5

M so this one is actually 19 ft 5 m 80 so it actually does get bigger let’s go check the last one so this is the notorious one the Bucky jump let’s see what this one is 18 19 what did we say the last one was was it 19 uh

581 said this one is basically an extra foot this is a 20ft jum it’s deceiving I thought this was the smallest of all of them so they they do actually progressively get bigger how they should okay at least we know now we know I find this the least intimidating this is the

One that bucks everyone but I kind of love this jump I don’t know why I’m so different and it’s the first one that scares me the most H wo right I’m not clearing these jumps it’s fear it’s bad conditions it’s wet um I am only on a dirt jumper as you know we just measured these out they’re big jumps so I’m expecting a lot for myself is a toer to be able to clear

These jumps on my dirt jumper in these conditions but I’m not going to stop we’ve got about how long we got left in the day guys about hour and a half daylight hour um I’m going to just session this first table keep sessioning the table over and over and over until I

Can clear it and then hopefully we can move down get the second one cleared and then the third one before the end of the day unfortunately we can’t go and check out action man now today there’s not going to be enough time perhaps that could be the third um inst ation to the

Around what a session guys okay I’m not fully clearing some of him jumps we checked him out again and I’m still casing that middle jump a little but I’m getting closer than I ever have uh I’m going to take it as a clear on the first and last jump but the middle one

Definitely needs me to redo it again but for now I’m happy I’m really happy with that um so that so that was Wally Gap guys that is me master in my local bike park uh let’s consider this part two shall we um we’ve got Christmas coming around the corner
