Morning how you doing really really well today I’m going to be heading off on a long ride down to Cornwall from my home here in Devon I’m doing a solstice Century so I think this idea isn’t totally unique but rrap have got on board to support the idea of everyone
Getting out there doing a 100 mile uh to celebrate the shortest day of the year and the light returning um so I’m going to go and do that this is not the actual solstice this ride is in Celebration of the solstice so you don’t need to pull
Me up on the fact it’s a Sunday and this is Solstice isn’t not a Sunday this is the solstice weekend it being the closest weekend to said Solstice now have I said Solstice enough as you can see it is only just beginning to get light and the whole idea of this is to
Use every second of the daylight hours get outdoors and have a good time so that’s my plan I’ve plotted a route it goes from here where I live in bricksome down through Plymouth and then I think it’s in ostel and eventually it goes through Truro to a place called Angar
Which is where I’m meeting my family to see all the Christmas lights and to have a Sunday roast so I need to make sure that I get down there by the time our table is booked which is 5:15 so I have loaded up a new audio book on my phone
Because I really enjoy listening to books as I ride along and I think I’ve got everything I need I’ve got a bunch of sterker bars I’ve got stirer oh hello is that a coffee delivery thank you um I’ve got a bunch of ster bars I’ve got sters um drinks powder in my bottle
That’s 90 gram of carbs so that’s really really useful and what else was I going to say I don’t know I’m going to drink this coffee and I’m going to go and have a good time oh that’s very useful obviously I’m dashing around like a loon trying to get out of here whil
It’s still slightly dark cuz the aim is to ride for every daylight minute but as you can see it’s getting light and I still haven’t left let’s try and go what have I forgotten I’m always in such a flap I spent hours getting all my stuff ready last night and I’m still in
A last minute flap show this in here whatever I haven’t got I just haven’t got let’s go right I did it I’m out before Sunrise obviously it looks light but um sunrise today is I think 5 minutes past 8 so I’ve managed to beat that cars have
Still got their headlights on so I think that qualifies I didn’t um mention in the intro anymore about the restrap solstice Sentry which I meant to basically every year they do this thing where if you ride 100 miles on the the solsa weekend you can get a restrap solsa century
Patch so I wouldn’t say I’m doing this because I want a patch but it’ll be nice to get it at the End so today’s route has a fair bit of climbing what with me going to cornal but they’re not those lovely long long steady climbs where you just go up up up up and then have a fabulous descent they’re those nasty little Cornish ones they tear your legs off there so Steep
And then the descent’s kind of sketchy and covered in leaf litter Anyway I’ve been riding for a couple of hours now and everyone still got their car headlights on I think it’s just that kind of day it’s never going to exactly brighten up even though the sun is supposedly up not much sign of it nice to be out though I am not Complaining H getting through clouth is tedious in the extreme but soon enough I’ll be on the tour Point ferry and then when I get to the other side we’re in Corville I mean cycle paaths like this are just really annoying Plymouth has many assets but uh
Good looks are not one of them it’s not all bad though my daughter was born here and she is the best thing that’s ever happened to Me rightless than mistaken we’re in Cornwall done about 60k another 100 to go think I’m averaging about 20 km an hour need to find a pasty and enjoy some of those Cornish climes Wow Right time for a py stop I think I am in Sean the sea looks amazing but I need a cup of tea in a py let’s go get one lovely View teeny C teeth check this out why is my tea so small there’s a massive climb coming up but that’s good
Because um starting to get a bit cold where I’ve cool down and I’m quite sweaty so I think it’s time to get going quick look at the see and then up that hill something so beautiful in it is kind of Bleak greyness disappointed there were no PES in that place though
Still need to take that box oh looks pretty amazing doesn’t it it has not taken long to get warm on these Savage Cornish shills uh that is the road I meant to be going down oh God how sleep is it going to get why is it so to be down
Here H I’d like to think that I’m quite an adventurous cyclist and I do like riding Offroad but slicks these wet slippy Stones they’re not my favorite I mean I got zero grip yes steps steps I mean come on oh bloody hell I did select Road cycling when I
Created this route I mean yes I only selected a start and end point but I didn’t think it would be Tac anyway this would be fine on a gravel bike just a bit slippy on the Roadie where am I H I hope all of the next segment isn’t on the Southwest coast Park that is not going to work right turns out I’m in a place called Lou it is the hilliest place I’ve ever been and I’ve managed to rout I think so that now I’ve only taking on roads I
Don’t know if it was a ride of GPS problem or my Garmin cuz I kept re-rooting it when I went wrong either way back on it 75 kmers to go I get the feeling it’s more of a summer destination oh bloody hell I missed a bit where I was just riding and
Everything was easy TR is closed closed route issues aside as I suspected this Cornish part of the route is very challenging these roads not only are they steep they’re really slippy and cover covered in dirt and well there’s a lot of farming goes on around here so they’re really slippery and greasy
Um so it’s slow going and a bit sketchy I’m having to go slow to be safe um thinking I’ll have to call Sam and tell him to put my ordering for me at the pub otherwise everyone will be sitting around waiting for me when they want to order I I’m having
Fun but if I was doing this route again well I wouldn’t do this route again oh this is pretty minor Panic then I didn’t know that I going to be getting a ferry just come zooming down this hill no fery here obviously in um out of season
Sunday I was wondering if it would be operating but I see it it’s coming thank the [Applause] Lord hi okay I forgive those Cornish Lanes those Cornish Hills cuz this is proper lovely a proper little Adventure um the route wasn’t quite what I was expecting but it means that I’ve come and see all these lovely places look gig rowers are out rowing I
Actually tried gig growing in brixon um I didn’t like it it was too slow for me although Sam has pointed out that that’s maybe because it was what first ever go with a group of other novices so we hadn’t got to grips with it yet too many other fun things to do Ehy py stop hopefully got feeling them are sold out ah I’m never going to get one let’s try result well from one extreme to the other from Tiny rows and foot paths now I’m on it’s not quite a dual Carriage Way but there’s two lanes on my side of the
Road and it’s NE room T some lights right lights are on it’s taking a little bit longer than I anticipated that’s Cornwall for you I’m getting a bit tired I’m getting a bit tired how long have I been riding 7 hours still got another 30k the table’s booked in half an
Hour well never mind 133k in 2,271 M of climbing and uh Sam is going to pick me up in the van cuz he’s on his way to the pub where we’re having dinner with Grandma and all the children so don’t want to miss that uh so I guess my Soler
Century is done I mean I could claim I’ve done a century a metric one rather than the one I set out to do but never mind you’re going to go find Sam go have some food and have a nice evening hope you’re doing well see you Later

Hey Juliet 🚲
Well done. Windy day for it!
well done on your cost ride
Awesome Juliet! I did this too! Smashed out another cafe driven Century.
M o r n i n g !
… and a great xmas, cheers!
Cornwall is just full of pointless and irritating hills! Anyway, good effort. One for next year. 👍
Well done Juliet 🍺 a long day in the saddle
You're such a quintessential event rider, doing it for the patch. I remember looking forward to my century finisher t-shirts—gotta have "proof" right?
Well done, epic ride and brilliant video
paper maps …!!!! 😀😀
Oh my dear
Pasty stops are the best
Well done , a 100 is a 100 no matter what, in europe they would only think of metric 💪👍😅 🇫🇷 🇬🇧
Hi Juliet well done wow that was a good route will try that thanks for video 😄👍
Nice to see Ivybridge, Seaton and Looe Coast Path! I used to help run D of E expeditions starting at the Cremyll ferry in Plymouth, camping at Looe (Bay View) and Polperro (top of the hill) and ending up at Fowey so I know that part of the Cornwall Coast quite well.
how is the image so steady when you shake so much ?
Glorious plan that one!
Completely drawn in by the idea of doing an 100 miler+ to sit at a table having a Sunday roast with your family waiting for you; I've thought about doing similar kind of rides in the past never commencing one in the end out of fear of winding up having to race against time ⏳
I whish that very table you were going to join ( eventually 😁 🌞 =] ) to be the merrier most animated one in the whole Cornwall;
Merry Christmas to you and to the whole of your family Juliet! 🇮🇹🎅 👋
You are like one of those tourists who follows their nav until they get their car stuck on the coastal path 😜
Well done Juliet, great video, That coastal path is a real adventurous ride, I have done part of it. Your right so scenic and beautiful and Plymouth does lack in looks and a lot of other things but at times it can be a great place to live. There are many very accessible places of outstanding beauty right on our doorstep and of course we have the sea.
Out before sunrise with no lights on?
Garmin route planner is just the worst, it doesn't know what a road is most of the time, well done for the ride
I can confirm the topography around Looe, Polperro and Fowey is savage. And that's coming from a Yorkshireman.
Come up here and do it, like 4hrs of daylight 😂
Was that your lovely Enve bike on those muddy lanes 🫨
I live in Cornwall and ride the hills all the time, I find it strange to see peoples strava rides where they have rode 100 miles and only done 650 m of climbing, I can do that on a 30km ride.
Juliet , have you thought of having a type of go pro wand to hold your camera or phone freeing up your hands , have recently purchased a quad lock phone case with magnet will stick to anything metal and with a proper base would free up your hand , anyway just a idea , great ride
Great video, Juliet! I hope you enjoyed your Cornish pasty, (and the family dinner). That was quite a ride. And I can still remember a Cornish pasty that I had in Looe, about sixty years ago, it was that delicious!
what exactly is a pastie? Is that just english slang for a pastry?
At last now i know how to get faster.
Apply lipstick before putting brain on saddle. Hip hip.
You would have made it too, if it wasn’t for those meddling paths! 😂😛 well done and have a great Christmas!
Honest effort… lol cheers
Loads of fun great vid 😊and Happy Holidays!
Juliet makes an error in navigating? That's a first (said no one ever 😄)
I like that kind of crazy ride. Always creates good memories and sleep well later. Gravel bike def needed for that one. Crazy how much the routing messed up!
Have you seen the, south west 660, route, take's in Brixham, you could do it on your triumph,😊
I enjoyed that thanks
Impressive!! Thanks for sharing the journey
Ride with GPS is a liability and cant be trusted. Got sent on the same mystery tour down the coast path and up the stairs at Millendreath a few years ago and apparently they still haven't fixed their routing.
😂The solstice was 3 am this morning, so isn't tomorrow the start of "solstice weekend "?
Great music!
