The traditional Tour de France pit walks aren’t quite back yet, but we’ve managed to dig up quite a bit of tech for you to kick off this year’s Grande Boucle.

In this video, Ronan Mc Laughlin walks you through Tadej Pogačar’s Colnago, now with disc brakes, Michael Matthews’ custom-painted Bianchi, Toms Skujins’ shiny new Trek, and we spot some Shimano shift buttons being used with SRAM shifters.

We’re here in brest for the start of the 2021 tour de france and we are incredibly lucky today to have defending champion telepogaches conago v3rs so the frame itself is konnago’s v3 rs that’s very similar to the frame that pagatcha wrote in last year’s tour de france

But there is a few subtle differences starting i suppose with a not so subtle difference as the dusk breaks now pagatcha has been seen this year riding both disc brakes and run brakes even both versions of the v3 rs and the uae tour and a few other races

But we are reliably informed he is now almost certain he’ll make the full switch to disc brakes uh he’s been riding the disc brake only version since his victory in the age based on the age and it’ll only be for either the steepest of climbs or the super high

Mountains where the rim brake version of the v3 rs comes comes out of the truck so with that uh dust brake setup comes con campagnolo’s super record eps group set this is a 12 speed grip set we’ve also had a look at pogacha’s time travel bike interestingly he’s running the 11 speed

Setup on the time travel bike but it’s a full 12 speeds the latest generation of the campagnolo super record on his on his road bike here he has that match to con campagnolo’s bora ultra wto45 wheels now these are the new ultra version of the bora wto they have the upgraded cult ceramic

Bearings and the hubs and also the carbon uh front front hub shell uh just as reviewed by our own james wong recently victoria provides the tires for uae team emirates and pagatc’s bike that we see here today is running the tubeless version of vitoria’s corsa graphene 2.0 now it is 25 millimeter

Wide front and rear but we’re reliably informed that pogacha likes to run 6.5 bar around 94 psi in the rear on dry days and six bar of pressure in the front which is roughly about 87 psi again that’s for dry conditions now that is slightly higher than

A lot of teams and riders have been trending towards especially considering that pagatcha is a lighter rider but nevertheless that is what we’re being told he’s running in the the tires here for the certainly the upcoming stages of turtle france where the forecast at the moment is predicting dry weather moving up from

The tires and onto the handlebars where pogacha opts for a data alana carbon integrated handlebar setup he uses a 120 millimeter long stem matched to 42 centimeter wide handlebars now the data’s are measured outside to outside so that means at the drops center to center these bars are just 40 centimeters wide

A lot wider than some bars we’ve seen recently but still certainly in terms of traditional bar setup on the on the narrower side of what’s available attached to that pogacha has his srm pc8 head unit which is paired to his srm parameter and moving back through the frame pagacha has this

Nice prologue scratch saddle with his slovenian national flag on the pro logo logo moving down the bike again pogacha has the elite legero carbon bottle cages he is also using the keo blade carbon pedals with titanium spindles and ceramic bearings and that’s not the only place on this

Bike where we see titanium because we’ve been reliably informed that pogacha’s mechanic has changed every single nut and bolt and screw on this bike and upgraded to titanium variant saving a total of 80 grams throughout the bike so everything from the the bolts and screws on the dust brake calipers to the

Headset bung to the bolts on the stem everything has been replaced with a titanium version all name of saving an extra few grams in fact data have gone to the effort of saving it 20 extra grams on the handlebars here and conago they have stepped up to the game

As well and they’ve created this prototype seatpost for pagatcha that weighs a huge 75 grams less than the standard v3 rsc post now it is a prototype forgatcha is trying out it’s only pagacio at the moment who’s riding this seatpost but it is something that potentially we

Could see in the future as an option with the with the v3 rs here we have the first of our custom painted bikes for this year’s tour de france and it belongs to michael matthews this is a bianchi ultra xr4 dusk which matthews hopes to be yeah sprinting to green jersey success

In this year’s tour de france so as you can see slightly different paint job on this bike michael matthews has gone for the slightly subtle approach with this bianchi he the really the only noticeable change from from a distance is that the bianchi decals down the downship here and i can say

Up close in person it really is quite stunning matthews has another gentle reminder always to believe in himself here on the top tube and just in front of that he has what we believe to be his own logo some more specifics about this bike matthews has a 140 mil stem part

Paired to a 40 centimeter wide handlebars and those bars are sticking up as vision but we believe they look very much like and of course they probably are the fsa acr integrated cable system that so many manufacturers are now turning to to facilitate that integrated cable routing that’s that

Um is so popular in the modern world tour bike moving slightly further forward and somewhat disappointingly matthews is running the jurass di2 9150 11 speed grip set uh no sign of the new 12 speed here but we will keep an eye out for it i’m sure we’ll hunt it down

Before the end of the tour and matthews has that paired to a set of dura c60 tubular wheels with pirelli rubber wrapped around them matthews has opted for 25 millimeter tubulars here michael matthews is opting for a physique arione saddle but more interestingly is the position he adopts on that saddle

If we look here the bianchi ultra xr4 has an interchangeable c clamp which can be flipped or either either way to have a more offset back position or a further forward position and matthews has opted for the most further furthest forward position possible and then he has also moved the saddle quite

Far forward clamp so although we haven’t got a plumb line with us here we reckon that the four of this saddle the front of the saddle must be almost if not right on the uci limit of five centimeters behind the bottom bracket so quite an aggressive position there

Matthews is running a size 55 xr4 and we weighed that in at 7.6 kilos next bike we have here is the trek emonda slr of trek sega freddo’s tom’s scoring and as you can see trex alfredo have this incredible metallic chrome style red on their bikes for this year’s tour de

France and that’s because this red is a brand new color now available as of today through trex project one custom paint options for you and i buying any track off their website so yeah this color along with a metallic a similar style blue that the trek sega fredo women’s team will be using

As of the giro starting soon both those colors are now available through the project one online store apart from that the bike is as per the standard trek sega fredo team bike it’s equipped here with a sram red etap access hydro group set um tom scones has opted for the 5239

Tooth chainring combination which of course was previously only available for the pros but is now available to the public through sram’s perimeter chainring upgrade kit toms has that paired to a 10 33 rear cassette so plenty of range there and of course toms is running the bond rigger aos

Rsl 51 carbon wheel sets wrapped with pirelli’s tubular p0 velo 25 millimeter tubular tires up front scoins has opted for a 130 millimeter stem matched to 40 centimeter wide handlebars he has the new wahoo element bolt head unit we like to keep our eye out for a few little nuances

About these pro bikes and as per the rest of the team scones is riding shimano pedals but of course we are expecting some sort of perimeter pedal from sram hopefully in the near future so we’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if that changes anytime soon as for the vital statistics about this

Bike we don’t have a tire pressure reading for this bike it’s in training setup at the moment so it’ll be changed for rest day but in terms of what we measured in these tubulars at 26 millimeters and in terms of widths the full bike and wrist setup as it’s seen here

Weighs in at 7.1 kilo we’ve just very quickly grabbed another one of these stunningly painted new trek madones with the new project one color this is a madone belonging to edward tunes and the reason we grabbed this one was just that we spotted something slightly different to the

The emonda of tom scones that we just looked at first of all tones is running a 54-41 chainring up front so slightly bigger that makes a bit of sense given the tones will be up there in the sprint finishes and doing on most likely on lead-out judy uh on top

Of that we’ve also noticed these little what looks like da2 sprinter shifters here on the drops now we have seen that in the past where people have hacked the i2 buttons to work with etap access but at least for me personally it’s the first time i’ve seen it on a world tour

Level bike let’s take a look at omar goldstein of the israel startup nation’s factor austral vam as with the rest of the team omar is running black in components throughout he’s got the black ink integrated handlebar and stem a 12 centimeter stem matched to 40 centimeter wide handlebars he’s got the black

Ink 45 tubeless compatible wheel set here with the maxis high road sl and tubeless setup ready to go for this the start of the tour de france this weekend on top of that omar goldstein has the jurassda2 11 speed grip set throughout as you would expect a hammerhead karu

Head unit up front and then throughout the rest of the bike there is quite a lot of ceramic speed components we’ve got a ceramic speed headset ceramic speed bottom brackets ceramic speed oversized pulley wheel system and from what i believe we’ve got ceramic speed uh wheel kits and the hub bearings also

The ezreal startup nation team run four eye parameters if you hadn’t quite seen that there on the crank and they also use elite bottle cages one other notable thing about this bike is just this neat little 3d printed chain catcher beneath here it’s certainly a different approach for

A chain catcher solution but it’s one that at least on the face of it seems like it would work quite well it’s a much bigger wider and sits closer to the chain rings and than most chain rings i’ve seen previously in terms of vital statistics as we mentioned earlier

Uh omar goldstein is running a tubeless setup here with the maxis high road sls now these tires have a 25c stamp on them but they actually measure out with our vernier calipers here to 28 mil when they sit on these black ink 45 wheels the bike in size 52 that we have

Here weighs in at 7.4 kg that’s it for part one don’t forget to stay tuned to cycling tips if you want to see all the action we have coming from this year’s tour de france we’ve also got plenty more tech coming from the 2021 tour so make sure you hit subscribe and also

    1. It's amazing to see how much money and time is spent to get a disk brake tubeless bike to it's limit in term of weight when they could just take the same bike in rim brake with tubular and get it easily at 6.8kgs without having to make "prototypes" and use cheesy bolts which will not last more than 5000kms and need loctite and check for re tightening every stages…

    2. Sooo it`s 2021 and the bikes must weigh atleast 6.8 kg but all of these is over 7 kg and almost 8 kg….? Whats up with that? 😉

    3. while all these bikes are nice the reality is they are all made in Asia often in the same factory American Treks and Italian Colnagos Bianchis etc not even made in their respective countries!! Speaking as someone who can afford to buy one of these I would pay the premium for say an Italian Bianchi if it was ACTUALLY MADE IN ITALY !!
When you consider the massive growth in bicycle frame production in Portugal lately it is completely feasible to do so ( throw in a bit of covid supply problems even more feasible )
But paying money the equivalent of a new European made small car for a bicycle made in Asia ? but waving an Italian or US flag on the frame ?? Come on !!

    4. Why you keep twisting your tongue to say Campag-nolo instead of the easy, elegant and correct pronunciation which is similar to Campan-yolo?

    5. Pro bikes 800g heavier than the limit at size 54 is quite shocking to me. Discs have a lot to answer for, and maybe favouring aero over weight in wheels – but these aren’t aero frames.

There are ten year old rim brake bikes you can easily get to the 6.8 kg limit.
