We are here to answer all your questions about moving to Delft/The Netherlands and the rich experience of being a student in the city of Delft.
Find out how to prepare for the move and what incredible things await you here in Delft!

Hey everyone welcome to live Q&A I am sushma here on behalf of Tel’s introduction program and present with me today are my newest colleagues anuch and Donna we’ve all gathered here to share some useful input on that could help you with your move to the Netherlands and

Also shed some light into the vibrant Student Life in DFT but first let’s begin with a brief introduction so you know a little bit about us starting with me I’m finally a master student uh of marine technology at the faculty of mechanical engineering uh I’ve been

Working for the IP uh for a couple of years now and IH here from the city of Hyderabad in India and I also love playing tennis hey thank you sshma uh hello everyone my name is anoj I a first year Master student in management of technology which comes under Department

Of Technology policy and management uh I come from a city in Pune which is in the state of of Maharashtra it’s in the western part of India and I love playing tennis and badminton hi all my name is Dana I’m a first year Master student at the faculty

Of aerospace engineering and I have just started working with the introduction program team um yeah I’m come I come from Romania from a little city called Brasov and I enjoy playing the Val sometimes I’m part of the orchestra and yeah that’s basically it about me okay

How nice so so uh let’s get started with what we want have to offer you in this live stream so starting off with the preparation before you move and we have moving to Del what to bring and what not to bring uh something about the weather here H and how you

Should prepare if you’re traveling in this weather and also where to find what in this city so let’s get started what two and not to bring um so here of course uh I think this is probably customary to everyone who has to move from a current city to a

Different city uh the first thing would be your ID to carry uh so this could be your passport uh so that is important foremost and you also could be bringing with you other relevant documents uh such as your insurance or rental contracts uh something like that

Yeah and what else could you be bringing to this new country uh could be medicines medicines is one of the important factors like uh when medicines when you are bringing make sure that you get prescriptions for all your medicines like yes be it for headache be it for

You know like from in my experience like I have brought all the medicines from headache diarrhea maybe stomach pain you know for emergency anything but make sure that you have prescriptions for all the medications especially when you have special conditions I guess it’s more important that you have the prescription

Sometimes uh there might be issues with obtaining the particular medicine you’re currently using so then you need a prescription from your home country um and that’s also something to keep in mind yeah and what about clothes so we’re going to talk some more about the weather too in the next few slides but

Of course you kind of have to get uh some weather Netherlands weather resistant Club to say so because especially now in this H period it’s raining a lot there’s a lot of wind so make sure that you’re going to get a good jacket with you and you’re not

Going to be cold and you’re not going to be wet cuz trust me that’s horrible yes what about umbrella um personally I don’t think that’s the best choice because the wind being like so strong here here I I don’t think I don’t think it’s the best cuz it’s just going to

Reap your umbrella out after all plus you’re not walking unless you live only a couple meters away from your um accommodation yeah faculty or anything because you’re mostly biking and that means exactly so just get a very good waterproof thing and you’re going to be set

Okay and perhaps uh you could also bring stuff that uh reminds you of your own home so uh perhaps there are Cutlery that you want to use uh especially for food uh of course there are plenty of thrift stores and other stores that you can get these from because there are

Plenty of international students uh but this is up to you uh to bring uh any additional items uh when you’re moving into a new house uh yeah and I would like to mention that don’t bring lot of utensils or stuff like because here you get everything uh because it’s heavy huh

Yeah yeah like you want to you know optimize your baggage weight and if you’re an international student like you need to optimize possible and you get most of the things maybe in there’s Ikea you know there are many stores like but that’s that’s something also that applies with uh winter clothing or

Something like that if you do not already have it um you could get them here uh but if you really cherish one of your old sweaters then you can bring it with you of course yeah next up what do we have um we can continue

Yeah uh what not to bring yes so already hinted at managing your weight uh for the luggage uh so for this you need not bring your whole kitchen with you for example you might be having a lot of pens uh cooking parts and stuff uh but

Yeah you need not bring them all uh most most of it uh can already be found in your student housing if it’s shared housing for example uh or you could uh acquire them from a new store or a thrift store thrift store yeah Ika is a great option yeah exactly that’s such a

Privilege right in the student City and also there’s action and other stores where you get them for really affordable prices so yeah next um we also have bikes I know a friend of mine who moved from France brought his own bike uh so he had it delivered but he it took some

Time you know so there will be days you might have to manage without a bike but for exchange students I think swap feeds might be the perfect it’s a perfect thing yeah they’re a really nice organization that Grant out bikes for uh reasonable prices and they have like

Packages of one month to six months months or so and uh quite handy because uh they also offer repair services free of cost free of cost yeah and the subscription cost it’s like 155 a month for a basic bike with a coastal break so it’s affordable like and they also have

Better options if you want get bik as well yeah it’s 20 that’s it so so a lot of flexibility there uh and they have plenty of stations across the Netherland so you can pick them up anywhere you live um and some cash perhaps well I would you call the

Netherlands a cashless place yet I do not know kind of yes kind of at least our campus is cashless completely so there’s no point in bringing cash while you’re going at Uni but um I think in general like you don’t really need cash that much here right like only uh maybe

If you’re going to some stores that are maybe more local to a specific City but this is not the case usually so if you have your card with you it will probably work so but perhaps as a backup plan when your debit car does not work it

Could be handy until until you have settled yes I think like 10020 is more than enough like ini get to get exactly Perfect all right and and well that’s it yeah we can move on so let’s talk about weather and how do you like the weather the

Weather is good like it’s it’s it’s good during the Summers but you know it’s rainy like it can rain anytime that’s the only thing and it’s very windy so you need to be you know yeah be on your toes like you have to make that mindset

In other lands that not made of sugar yeah it will rain any time so and you know it other than rain it’s windy that’s the worst thing true but yeah it’s it’s fun because perhaps uh also nice to carry like a rain coat for your backpack yeah um because it rains so

Often uh yeah you can find some of these at decathlon if you’re just they’re not very expensive they’re like 5 to 10 Max so also a rain cover for your bike seat exactly exactly yeah that’s very important wrinkle for white seats yeah so uh those come in handy uh rain boots

If you would like um I I personally never really had to purchase rain boots I could get do with like leather boots ordinary winter ones but um yeah they should be fit for wet exactly grounds simple waterproof boots are also okay but make sure that you have some

Waterproof boots so true because when it rains like yeah and across the university we have this policy on heating set to a maximum of 19° C in the winter um that could be cold for some people it is cold for me so for this reason I also carry like a

Sweater or a thermal uh to wear even indoors uh so that’s also something to take note uh even when indoors it’s not fully comfortable temperature uh it might be cold for some yes and every home is equipped with radiators so yes it’s not like it’s like you’ll feel like a good

Temperature inside whenever you are there so but when you are outside that time some good clothes gloves gloves gloves are very important like because Netherlands is a city and Del especially you know you bike a lot because true and then you need a good pair of clothes as

Well exactly those which uh sustain rain as rain as well as cold it depends a lot on how much you cycle for example I’m living in dhag and in dhag um I’ve been trying to cycle all the way from there to here and it worked in the month of SE

September because there was not as many frequent rains and wind and everything but once the weather’s like changed and it started raining I kind of gave up on that because it’s about 40 minutes of cycling one way and it’s a bit crazy especially like imagine like pouring

Rain and wind that comes from the front for 40 minutes is horrible so but if you’re like cycling for 10 15 20 minutes yeah you’re going to be fine yeah okay all right we can move on then to travel ooh how has your travel experience been

On yeah so I I came in a group of people so I basically had a group ticket we were six people so from the airport from theall airport so I got it for very cheap and so group tickets will help you save box save box that’s pretty

Important yeah and also like some of my friends I’ve seen they took a ticket at the station mhm so it’s like around 1213 if you take at the station so Yeah Yeah from ski to Del station not the Del campus so that’s just a ticket for one

Way travel one way one way travel yeah so you can get these tickets on the NS app or on the NS website you can do that uh basically just online online it’s not that big of a deal but I also uh recommend uh after you arrive here and

You settle in and you have a delivery address that you can receive things to it’s very good to uh get a personalized NS card yeah um so you can um either get um how to say either get a subscription or a student version of the card because

It’s going to help you a lot and it’s going to help you save a lot of money I personally didn’t have the time to do this in my first month so I accumulated a lot of a lot of money spent so yeah so subscriptions are essentially some

Offers or deals that NS gives and NS is the company that runs trains in the Netherlands so for example one subscription could offer you free travel uh across the weekend uh and within the entire country of the Netherlands uh and this is only possible for example only

With your personal uh chip card that’s the travel card uh but there are also another version of the travel card which is the anonymous o chip cards and this is more of a use and throw kind of card um it does not carry your information so

It does not have a name or a date of birth to it um and this kind of card you can just load automatically at the train station and go with your trip but you will not have room for discounts or deals yes in that matter but that is

Useful in like d you said it’s useful when you travel through bus or trams exactly exactly that’s the most important them for me for example I did not come to Del or denh initially I stayed near Amer Dam with a relative of mine so I needed my cards weren’t

Working initially because they were not sepa activated here in the Netherlands so I was not able to pay with my cart in the tra or the bus or at the train it was working even though the facility was there exactly exactly so in this case it

Is the best if you get an anonymous card I think the initial price for it it’s it’s a bit expensive it’s about 8 okay but it’s the best tradeoff that you can get when you come here goodest for exactly comfort and you can use it for

Your relativ when they come here you can just give it to them it doesn’t have a name yeah exactly that’s Prett exactly so ASA Ali is asking us in the chat what kind of gloves wooden or the ones that are for the crib um we recommend like waterproof and wind resistant gloves I

Think and one that are able to keep your hands warm warm and not wet especially and you need not worry if you do not already have them you can definitely purchase these from stores here Inland ex there are a lot of stores plenty of them uh so kwat or H exactly they have

Nice collections of leather gloves Theon is there the cathlon tooon yeah so you do have plenty of options you might want to uh explore and compare the options but if you already have them then just get both warm and water resist any other questions uh no I think

Uh for now we’re okay and we can move on to uh where to find what yeah we were talking about sour right but some procedures before uh you settle down because uh of course you might probably have housing uh that you will be moving into and with this

Housing you can register at an address uh through the municipality um so if you’re living in Del that’s the municipality of Del if you’re living in denha that’s the municipality of denha so please make sure you book an appointment at the corresponding municipality not that you’re living in denh and come to the

Municipality of Del they cannot complete your registration uh and other perk or there are many perks with completing registration for example your bank account exactly that requires registration um and also D dig ID yeah oh I do not remember yeah exactly so your D ID uh and also to have things

Delivered to you you need an address so um this is uh one of the first things that you can do uh upon arrival I think the instruction is to get yourself registered within the five five five days it’s five days of arrival to in in the Netherlands yes but don’t stress too

Much about it it’s okay if you exactly or a little late exactly for example like uh when I came uh here uh it was very very busy in the municipality so I had to wait a month for my appointment which was not that big of a deal the

People here were very there were very nice I just got my my BSN number and it was fine but also regarding the DJ ID it’s very important to get it and to sign up for it as uh as soon as you get your uh your visa and everything because uh

You can apply for uh student help like financial help you can apply to a lot of things it’s related to the government exactly you can use it to log into most of the government websites so that’s really important keep very secure as well so it’s super handy uh just get it

Done uh okay we should yeah speak about documents needed to register yeah one second only Julian asked us can the appointment be booked after arrival or is this something that needs to be taken care of beforehand no you have to arrive here first first find an accommodation

For you sign your contract and only then you’ll be able to do your BSN because you have to have your rental contct contract with you at the um at the appointment exctly they require a hard copy so uh there are I I do not think they accept electronic copies need a

Printed copy of your rental dreaming exactly uh and only then they can complete your registration yeah so don’t worry about it right now and a 10 minute appointment so um not that big of a deal exactly exactly get it done just don’t worry for it about it right now when you

Come here and when you find your recommendation after that you should be set so yeah um and then applying for bank account MH well I think we have some student friendly options because uh AV Arro I know for sure offers you to open a checking account for free as a

Student in so um so these are the popular choices uh of course if you have your own European bank account that works just has to be sepa ex yeah it it really depends a lot on the store that you’re going in so just uh you know it’s

A trial and error kind of situation if it doesn’t work that’s too bad you’re going to have to get a new ma account and I think application or the application process for these accounts is relatively fast only takes like one or two weeks or ABN Amro you can do it

Online without BSN as well true uh but then you still have to submit your after afterwards so it’s just like so you not worry if you do not have a BSN at first you just apply to and then wait for your BSN to come and then submit the documents so it’s a

Fast you can do that from your home as well and this is a privilege I didn’t have this is a new policy yeah so I am very grateful it’s in place right now yeah all right someone else Andre fala is asking us do you know how functional

Direct valute card is in in the Netherlands yes I actually have one so uh it mostly works on the grocery stores it unfortunately doesn’t work with public transport because it’s not SE activated so you’re going to have to get an anonymous NS card for that or just

Buy tickets from the app or the website but mostly uh from from my experience at least the revolute card works almost everywhere so yeah you don’t have to worry about it very much have you tried uh withdrawing cash with uh yes I tried you can withdraw cash from almost all

ATMs no problem but you have to keep in mind that uh revolute just implemented a new thing that uh doesn’t allow you to take as much money as before so after I think it depends on the type of card but after 200 in between 200 and four

400 you will pay a pretty big uh percent yeah percentage withdrawal and yeah I don’t recommend necessarily withdrawing from revolute because you’re going to you’re going to accumulate some taxes on that which is not great but from the start it’s okay like until you get your

Your cards in order this is fine that’s nice okay and I guess the resident permit applies for the non-eu international students exactly exactly and this is a document or your ID that is valid uh for the duration of your study and this is supposed to be CED at

The Immigration Center um but an invitation for you to collect this will be sent directly from T Del yes so you just need to wait out for an email instructing you to collect it um and then you can make an appointment to collect it through their website the

Indd website and then collect it for us it was a different like University allotted us where we have to collect and we had to go to you you didn’t have to book a appointment no oh so it was already made and then you had

To show off and we had to go to youth as well so it was far for me luckily it was in denha so it could end up anywhere depending on how busy these offices are yes true so US is an option and then dhog is there I think last year it was

Ina as well they were yeah really yes yes how handy okay we were not that lucky huh like it’s a long travel and it was a long queue as well like oh yeah it was around 2 300 400 m Cube wo while collecting wow okay damn but definitely

Worth the struggle cuz uh that’s your only ID after yes arriving here arriving here yeah okay any other questions on this topic for now it’s fine all right uh register with general practitioner yeah who has done this who hasn’t done this I have done this do it yes so the

Thing is before coming you should be sorted with your insurance stuff so yeah and T health insurance health insurance yeah health insurance so T Del uh is in collaboration with International insurances yeah provide insurance as well as there are three major insurance companies like like one is insure to

Study i2s another one is a o n and another is O like w m yeah so these are the major insurance companies where you can get insurance the day you are traveling because from the day you are traveling it’s pretty important and and this is required um to help you with

Your emergency situation so please do not take this lightly uh for example you met meet with an accident and you’re not insured the cost of uh treatment is so high also with people who have special underlying conditions for example skin uh well skin is not covered by insurance

But Dental issues for example uh those kind of treatments are very expensive and it it is just safer to be insured for that kind of treatment um I also took out insur to study when I arrived here especially because it it covered I glass prescription so if that’s also something

That you prioritize then uh please consider insur to study I do think the other two options may be cheaper but please don’t be misled by it because the cover is not the same um additionally uh you must register with the general practitioner they they are your first uh

Receivers or doctors that review your condition before you go to the hospital or any other surgery um and so to do this you must be registered at a general practitioner that that is the for example in Del it is students practic practice Del yeah SPD UMD s or in

Dutch so uh they do have a website where you can apply online to register and then uh for your first appointment you need to bring with you your ID that’s your passport Insurance copy yeah and your health insurance card yes uh so they verify your identification and then

You’re good to go uh so any kind of uh issues that you have with health uh must always first go through the GP and only then they can recommend you to say a dentist or say a surgeon or something like that that’s true that’s true and

But this is not for emergency cases uh if there’s emergency you can call the emergency line 112 and then you can like but it’s very important to register at GP because here it’s like uh very disciplined like there are appointments yes and they strictly follow that even

If you miss the appointment you get a fine for that true yeah so you love way no no no I was likeing so yeah so okay yeah indeed that’s something to keep in mind do not miss your or cancel them in time yes that’s true yeah okay also

Another thing to keep in mind especially if you’re an European student you can uh have an European health insurance card and that is very helpful and it can work as an insurance for you while you’re here uh so make sure to contact your local authorities that are dealing with

Uh Medical insur you can apply for one and you can get it before coming here and you’re not going to have to deal this deal with uh exactly with a new provider and everything so yeah you can try doing that and um of course the three uh International insurance

Companies that we mentioned of uh they handle requests quite fairly uh their processing time is not too long so um just don’t wait it out uh you can go ahead and apply and final thing is remember remember to take liability insurance as well it’s all for household

For household items and you know you know if you have something valuable something valuable you can take that like it’s it’s like € 10 per month extra I guess yeah but it’s worth it like it’s liability at the end so you know if you’re at a friend’s place and something

Happens like it’s covered there so inde okay DCH phone number o yeah of course um I I I don’t think you can just get by with internet with Wi-Fi uh so you do need your mobile phone and mobile network um and for this uh you can find SIM cards at convenience

Stores like croud or even the supermarket for them uh but you can also apply online on these companies websites uh and they will be delivered to your address and you can activate the SIM card even you get that with if you have a do housing you get that with do

Packages yeah true the package package the duo yes it’s covered yeah it’s um so I guess many students use and that’s also quite popular in the exchange Community Um T-Mobile is another option uh T-mobile provides eim card so it’s attrative attractive option because if you don’t have don’t have then you have

To go with T-Mobile that’s so that’s the and lab is you know a free calling labor to labor and you can take plant starting yeah they have varieties right yeah 4 5 starting from 5 so that’s pretty economical plan yeah yeah certainly okay bikes the IP oh well uh we do not have

An IP bike sale in Spring uh but there there are many stores you can purchase from uh bikes so for example the catlon that’s the sports Haven so you can get your bike from there uh but there are also secondhand bike stores across do across many

Cities um cluster man I have a list there are some there are so many bik stores and of course there are thrift stores that also sell these uh but the collection you know it varies across the year uh because you only have stock when people have have Yes sold yeah and now

As the spring students will be coming the prices tend to get on a higher side but you can get a good bike with seven gears for like 100 12 I think that’s a good price you can get yeah indeed a good bike and also you can find bikes on

Facebook Marketplace and Mar PLS yeah and there I would ask you to be aware of scams um for example uh one of the sellers could be selling you a nice bike for a very low price and you may not find anything fishy but it could be that

The tires are already flat but only temporarily inflated and then just 3 days later you find that both tires need to be replaced replaced um so bew uh so maybe do a really thorough check of the bike uh sometimes people also sell St bikes on Facebook Market plat

Yes so um I think a good thing to keep in mind uh in regards to this problem is some people that are selling their bik bikes are selling them with an ownership contract that they received when they bought the bike from for example Deaton and basically all bikes are registered

In the municipality so it would be best if you could find a person that that is selling their bike with this certificate like in that case you can be sure that it is not stolen it nothing weird and sketchy happened to it so yeah that would be the best but that can also

Happen all the time because yeah some people just do not have it just bought it from someone else what was your experience like uh honestly I don’t I didn’t buy a bike it I’m using the swaps um subscription it works best for me so yeah and with bikes uh there’s also bike

Theft um so uh when you do purchase expensive bike or even if the secondhand bike that you purchase is expensive any bike over €100 you have to take care of yeah worth another uh second lock a chain lock so you can uh lock it to something concrete at least yeah yeah I

Saw a lot of people going with three locks just to be sure because I had a colleague that happened to happened this to her just last week she had her bike stolen from the train station and it was just bought she bought it like a week

Ago and then two days after it was and it was not double locked it was double locked actually and it still happen so you have to be really really careful same thing happened with my friend as well like his bike was new old like the oldest bike which you can find and it

Was so it was not worth stealing but still it was stolen like I was like okay well I’ve heard some people use that trick to purchase an old bike so it’s not stolen it seems even they are stolen areen yes that’s true yes so don’t be Hasty just spend the time extra minute

Uh locking your bike twice get a good lock it’s important yeah also water resistant cuz uh sometimes they get rusty and the chains don’t come off again and you have to go to the bike repair to get your own chain CH cut chain cut it’s expensive as well yeah so

Um that might be tricky and you do not want to waste time there so just spend more bucks on getting a water resistant chain yeah okay all right then supermarkets food exactly well I do my shopping at Durk cuz it’s close to my house yeah for me it’s Yambo for

Me it’s Yambo to Alber yeah like the closest in the center so all right like from I live in profess yeah and it’s like 1 minute 5 minutes walk to for me yeah so um yeah one quick question that we have here um someone asks us if here

People are wearing by helmets so it is not uh necessarily mandatory from a legal standpoint to wear a hel bike helmet you can you you don’t need to do that but if you feel more comfortable and you’re not very confident in your uh biking skills and you just want to like

Try to be as safe as possible first you can do that like no problem but um we often see we often see the mountain bike uh Riders yes so um that’s the general observation but if you’re if you want to wear it you can go ahead there’s no one

Stopping yeah exactly but the thing with Netherlands is there are dedicated bike tracks so yeah so it’s it’s not you know Neary necessary it’s not a danger because you know uh the cars have a specified Lane the bikes have a specified Lane so you are pretty much

Safe you know when you’re are traveling through the white track so yeah usually uh I observe that the Dutch say that people that wear helmets are tourists but don’t think about that don’t think about that if you don’t feel the same just wear it until you feel comfortable

With that with the road so certainly um the museum cards um perhaps this rings a bell if you’re a travel bee because uh the museum cart is a government uh um government pass you know provision yeah it’s a it’s a pass that allows you to uh visit National museums across the

Netherlands um within a time period of one year yes uh and it cost like 70 75 yeah they increase this year so oh yeah it’s 775 for one year and you can take off as many museums uh you want across the Netherlands but it’s only the National History kind of museums uh not

The fancy ones I guess yes but it is worth it it definitely makes your uh travel more interesting because when you combine this with the NS weekend subscription yes and you’re traveling a lot in the weekend you can also visit museums along with it yeah I

Know a lot of friends who do this uh yeah if you’re a mum person like even there are castles like oh yeah yeah certainly yes so like one time entry fee is like 2025 so you can just get a card and nor yeah exactly normally uh in most

Museums the student pass is like 12 to1 18 or something and that’s for one Museum but this is like 75 for like 300 museums across the Netherlands so you do get a nice offer and you have a year’s time to make use of it y so it could be like say summer

Holidays or the winter holidays whenever you have time yeah to use it okay all right we can move on then to what to look out for ah yes um well um the P Cafe is not there and we have news items oh well stay updated through our Instagram channel uh if you haven’t

Followed our Instagram page do follow it uh that’s where we will post all updates about your spring program um additionally uh we also want to share what uh yes additionally we also want to ask you to follow our bright space course that’s going to come up

Next month yes so it will be live next month and this is where you’ll find plenty of practical information about t do uh so be prepared for that uh but we will also be running another live stream yeah uh next month that’s the 15th J 15

Of jun 15th of June uh and we will demonstrate how to use this bright space what we’re talking about so we have another question in the chat binash asked us if it is a problem if we get insurance from an internationally recognized and accepted insurance company in our own country before

Arriving uh I would ask you to check if it meets the requirements of the Netherlands or the T Del I think there was a page um listing out the requirements yeah I think this is provided by the immigration services again ex so if it meets those requirements then you’re good enough you

Need not get another uh Insurance yeah you just have to be really careful and check so just check if it’s still meeting those requirements yeah yeah and is this our last Light yeah this is our last question and this is our last Light too all right so uh what

Else are there more questions that you guys might have to ask for us maybe on topics that we haven’t covered here yeah about the scams housing scams it’s not just housing is it but there are scams across everything so there’s housing for starters um and what does a housing scam

Look like so I’ll just tell you my situation like I didn’t find a housing uh when I came in summer so I was looking at Facebook all the groups I joined all the groups and I was looking for some houses and I found a person who

Lived in abroad and he said that you know pay me like 500 and I’ll transfer you the keys from you you know USA and it will be posted to your address wow that’s very sketchy but it’s not just that um I think there’s also another version to

This uh people post fake photos fake photos yeah and do not offer a viewing to the house exactly that’s the biggest red flags I think like um what I did when I was searching for my accommodation here is just take one or two pictures from the ad that you’ve

Seen either on Facebook oh yeah and search for it on Google photos you can use the Google Lens option you can use the Google Lens option and there it’s going to automatically search for photos that are similar and it can find the original photo if it’s coming it I had a

Lot of cases where it was just coming for example for a Us website so like very bad scams very easy to recognize recognize them exactly so um yeah be be very careful regarding this search for the photos and Google Images also like be very careful careful for red flags

That can steal your identity because there are some people who are not necessarily scamming for money but they are scamming for your personal data and if a landlord or a person on Facebook or on a random rental site is asking for yeah send me a picture of your passport

Send me your personal identification number send me your personal information don’t do it don’t do it uh uh it’s very sketchy they can just disappear afterward especially if you’re keeping your conversation through email or Whatsapp or any of these other social media website so yeah just be careful

With this here I would like to add um I I know a couple of friends who are uh also applying for rent uh rental houses but when they do ask ID uh you can secure your ID so you can black out your personal information so it does not have

Your BSN for example uh so the sensitive information can be concealed and you can still send the identification and this could be a regular process uh most rental agencies do ask for identification so they are only dealing with real renting uh interested persons uh so you need not be backed away

Immediately uh but you could just check their reviews on internet also to cross verify if there has been something in the past yeah um but this again is subject to what has been reported in the past so I think there is also a scam page ook that the Netherlands maintains

Yes um so you could read on what kind of scams there are uh and apart from that there are also scams uh about Finance so uh there are colors that pretend to be a government Authority for example the police or um the Supreme Court of the

Netherlands and and they demand uh or or they say that your BSN is at risk of something but please uh I think here you can note that these kind of calls are made in English but all government uh authorities Carry On official information in Dutch and also that they

Communicate through letter and not not yes um but so those are some ways you can identify this but also you can check with your friends so exactly uh and and in these calls they might even say your friend could be the culprit so they try to um raise some

Suspicion among your circles itself but you need not fall for it yes you know who to trust um that’s how it is yeah so overall I think you should just be careful search for the name of the person uh search for the pictures on Google Images make sure that there are

Not news about how that person is scamming people you know yeah that can happen that can happen and it’s very scary and you don’t want to lose money so don’t pressure to you know close the de fast you know yeah so uh also there’s another thing that I want to mention I

Was talking with so many scammers when I arrived here and they use this technique of uh taking emails and taking names that are usually very American so like it’s a John Smith it’s uh yeah Anna um Brown you know if like these names are very common and you cannot find a

Specific person by looking that name up that possibly can be exactly there ALS there’s also fishing emails that you might receive on your T email addresses but uh T Del is monitoring these so you will immediately receive an alert message saying that the email that you receive from so Ando

Email address is uh Pro potentially threatening so uh you can ignore them so there is still U you’re still safe if it is received on your telf student email address but if it is received on your personal email address still keep out for unknown senders pretending to be something yeah

All right so I think we’re done with the uh scamming part and we already have some questions that we can answer so uh the first question is from MN uh he asks us how he can contact us I think the best way of contacting guys is through our email the ippr 2024

Atnl which you receiv your invitation yes yeah so if you have any questions just reach out to us in that email we’re going to respond to you as quickly as possible and we hope we can solve your problem all right so uh akas mukadam asked us whether is a big

Question of mine being from Mumbai since one of you is from Pune you might be aware of Mumbai rains how does the Netherlands rain compared to it oh yeah like just now we were talking about it Netherland rains is it’s it’s not compared to Mumbai what we have in

Mumbai but the thing is it’s windy here so you know in Mumbai you won’t feel that cold but here like you can’t even drive your bike because With the Wind you know you have to stop and there’s rain as well so you need to be aware of

That and you know if you are from Mumbai then you are used to rain but not the wind so be prepared for the winds that’s it and the cold weather so I think you’ll be fine here all right all right another question that we got from Nino

Is I heard that you cannot use a Visa card in some places but instead you should get a maestro Master Card I’m asking especially for the first few weeks before getting a Dutch bank account um that can apply to some places I think I was able to use my Visa card

For places such as the supermarket or um just some other shops around town uh but um yeah that’s true there are some stores that do not accept it so it would be good if you would be able to carry a some cash or either a

Master or Master Card Card so yeah I I think that would be a good idea it hurt yeah just until you wait for your Dutch bank account exactly exactly I think it works like MasterCard will work in like grocery stores and basically but yeah cash is always a handy option yeah

All right all right uh we have another question also it doesn’t quite fit the topic of the session but do you know when roughly the bright space accounts are unlocked so you can enroll for courses yeah so it’s like after you get the net ID then you can uh there’s a net

ID which is your uh student email you you can say username with password you’ll get a link is it the bright space accounts oh yeah yeah so you’ll get a net ID through which you can I think it’s the same as o is right where we log

In or it’s a different not to sure I’m not too sure okay okay you you essentially receive an email explicitly stating this is your net ID so once you’ve gotten that you’re free to use T servic services all linked to your net ID yes and if this is not really clear

We don’t know exactly for sure if there’s a date of activation or something so you can send us an email and we are not too sure I think we we will get an update this week before the so it should be of J or second week of J

They will get yeah it should be before the spring event yeah okay um all right any more questions I see that there are no more questions for now okay so well I guess that’s it yep that was fun oh we have one more yeah we have it yeah uh would

You recommend looking for housing in the HG or Rotterdam versus inside down just housing just housing yeah wherever you find it it would be best if you could find in Del like that’s the best uh opportunity and ideal situation situation but the housing market is so competitive here exactly exactly like

The accommodations are given up like here they are and they’ disappeared exactly in literal second minutes hours so like uh I think the best course of action is just applying to as many options as possible either in theh in rdam but I think it’s best to make sure

That you are close to at least a bus station a TR station uh train station actually so just to have access for example I’m living in denh but I live like 2 minutes away from the train station so it’s perfect for me I just go

To the train station I I I think it’s 10 minutes from my train station to here in Del and then I bike for a bit and I’m here so and I do have to mention um well the train tickets are not as cheap cheap as you might expect them to be so

Uh when you are considering living away from Del please take into account the travel uh cost travel cost you uh even with a monthly subscription that’s depends on uh the distance between the regular train stations you’ll be visiting um also that is quite expensive uh it it accounts to like1 a month at

Least even if it’s r or denh even though they’re just like 10 or 15 km away from so please take that into account uh and there there is no other way out uh that is just it exactly if you search for NS subscriptions on Google you can find

They have like um how to say like a personalized um form where you can complete like okay I’m going to be using uh this station and this station uh make me a price how much the subscription is going to be for me it’s approxim €60 from theh HS okay from someone who lives

Further it maybe more so it really depends you just have to search for it you need a personalized o chip card for that for this yes definitely and uh not just that uh also when you’re traveling by trains or bus uh if you’re going to UNI that might be during the peak hours

So also take into account that you will have to deal with full trains or full buses and if that’s not really your thing then you might want to choose housing in do yeah so to Circle back to the question it’s best if you can find but if you cannot do that there’s not

That big of an issue at least find some housing yeah just find some housing some housing with the contract because there is there are two things which I have seen before coming here like some housing tell you that you cannot register yeah oh yeah so yeah do make

Sure you can register that address so without registration you can’t register get your BSN if you can’t get your BSN you can’t get your bank account you can’t get your OB chip card and it’s also illegal to be not register yes all right for too long yeah so we have some

Other questions yes um ad Marita asks us who do I have to contact email to change courses so I think that’s your faculty um change courses yeah maybe like for Q3 like electives and stuff oh could be uh your program coordinator program coordinator if it’s exchange then uh you’re exchange coordinator at The

Faculty exactly so it’s a specifically faculty related question since it’s about the courses and everything so yeah also em emmen is asking us is there a student pass to travel by train in Europe I know that I’m aware of there is one for the Dutch students yeah there’s

One in Germany which you can get for 50 I know that you can travel in on local train but not not otherwise yeah okay yeah all right well I think uh these are the questions then yes what about websites like you can for finding housing like which websites did you

Use room I don’t even remember it’s only been a couple months I know but I forgot you know the housing problem is behind me so you’re over it I was very lucky and I found my accommodation through Facebook but yeah I was lucky this is not the usual case

You can get scammed through Facebook very easily but I had luck of meeting a landlord that is very young and yeah he was using Facebook and it was just pure luck well um I think I used student University Housing can be found through room. room yes right and this camet I

Use CET CET is great yeah you have to pay a subscription though for ceret it can be a bit expensive it’s like uh 23 or per month something like that per month 223 it may be a lot for some and it does take a while before you actually exactly get a

View but it’s good because uh the people that are posting the ads on there the landlords are actually verified by ID so there are uh there there’s still a chance for you to get can’t don’t get me wrong but uh it’s much more safer than a Facebook or Whatsapp or something like

That so true that’s true um but then it’s so competitive uh you would only have to keep out for the new posts yeah because they get like hundreds of responses for each advertisement that’s the amount of competition there is and of course you can Network a lot ask around within your student Community

There might be students graduating in student houses of friends of yours uh so then you could take their spot but of course this should also meet your requirements of say rent costs uh Etc so um you have to keep your options open for everything exactly um just be

Careful that’s be care just be careful a big good website is room Plaza I know my friends like if you are in a group with your four five friends you can go on room Plaza and if budget is not an issue like if you can spend 800 around EUR you

Get a good apartment and that’s pretty much good yeah it’s like a rental agency it’s a rental agency they have apartment so it’s like so there are rental agencies as well uh that you can approach it’s just a bit hard which rental agencies CU they tend to usually

Um rent full houses or full Apartments yeah you need a group in that case yeah there’s also a problem because most of the agencies ask for pay slips for the last 3 months and that can be a little bit tricky if you don’t have a job you don’t have any then you would

Have to provide a guarante yeah exactly so it gets a bit complicated maybe different process yeah if you can prevent that don’t do it so yeah we also have another question here I think this is going to be our last one since we are approaching the end of this live uh the

Question is from as now Ali and she’s asking us would you guys suggest to get a multiple entry Visa MVB before getting a resident permit so I’m not sure so isn’t that the usual way no the thing is MVB is different from RP so mvv is

Anyways you will get it 90 days you get a 90 days validity for mvv and the RP is something which is valid after it’s valid till the period of your study so for us it’s a two-year master program so our we got mvv I came in August so my

Mvv was from July August September it ended in September and I got RP in August 10 so which for years both yeah you have to get mvv is just the visa to enter the Netherlands and R is like a card like which you can carry around

Europe yeah it’s your ID ID dut ID it’s your Dutch ID as yes okay so you will get R thing from the University you’ll get a mail when you have to collect that and MVB is just the mandatory thing so yeah that’s pretty much well we hope that answered all your questions and

Thank you so much for joining us live today and we’ll see you after the holidays in another live exactly follow us on Instagram and you know we are looking forward to getting maum registrations thank you byebye byebye bye Everyone
