Another ride out, this time one of my favourite local routes. Starting off in Rawtenstall heading up through the old tunnels to Bacup and up the cheeky climb at Sharneyford. Taking Flower Scar road over the moors towards Todmorden. Following this over Flower Scar Hill, stopping to enjoy the panoramic views over the Rossendale Valley, towards the Peak district, over the Penines to the Calder valley in Yorkshire, just able to make out Stoodley Pike, and North towards Pendle. I then head onto to Sourhall road and down to Clough Foot. Next a great downhill stretch on a fantastic bit of road, Bacup Road, towards Gauxholme where I briefly head South along Rochdale road until the entrance to the Rochdale Canal towpath.
The towpath provides some incredible scenery along the way.
Exiting the path at Littleborough, I head through the busy town of Rochdale – I need to find a better part of the route than this – heading up through Spotland and Norden along Edenfield Road until I meet the Ashworth Valley res at Cheesden. Unfortunately I’d made my way through 3 batteries at this point and all were done so the tail end of my ride, down to Edenfield and back to Rawtenstall was missed. I was chasing the sun at this point so low on light anyway. But perhaps next time.
