Let's not overcomplicate this question. Legalization is the only solution.

Narcotic prohibition or criminalising drug distribution and consumption has consistently failed by every conceivable metric.

Ive lived all over the uk, but BRIGHTON the city this was filmed in is by far the biggest smack city in England. This was filmed 25 years ago and it has got worse now.
As a recovering addict i pretty much agree with everything said here. Its actually about to get so much worse as well because as the politicians celebrate the huge reduction in heroin production in athganistan the dealers will flood the streets of the uk with fenatal and even worse substances. Dont believe me?, well its already started judging by the warnings at places that addicts frequent.
Please share this documentary for awareness. As a former opioid addict of 10 years these substances should be decriminalised and properly dispensed to patients.Addicts do crimes because they can't get a regular supply, the quality changes and its dangerous because they don't know the strength of what they are getting.I am happily medicated on subutex and if i wasnt I would probably be homeless or even dead.
The best weapon against drugs like these is decriminalisation, safe spaces to use, drug testing and harm reduction.people are always going to seek/obtain these things.education and prevention are much more appropriate, especially in this day and age.
take street heroin and suffer potential life long consequences, including mental health issues like PTSD, life on the streets can be traumatic.
plus theres always new gov talks about how to reduce supply etc. this was the aim for 2008 when this doc was made, now 2023 and need i say.
I don’t know the solution but I do know for as long as Iv been Alive it has been a war on drugs and we have been losing the war for years and have no signs of winning so we do need to change the tactics
The way to deal with it is by treating addiction as a medical issue and not a criminal one..so the Government should start by decriminalising the personal use and carrying of upto certain amounts of all drugs including and most importantly Class A drugs.
Then they should manufacture certain substances at medical grade like heroin, crack, cocaine etc and then issue proven addicts who are in treatment with a drug centre a certain amount of these clean narcotics on a daily basis and this way over time it would stamp out a good size of the illicit drug dealing if you can just go to the pharmacy and get your script of good clean crack and heroin then why buy a shitter product of a dealer? Also it would gradually start to have a huge impact on crime committed to fund drug addiction..it would drop massively..which would free Police and Courts upto to deal with more serious issues that the public is more concerned about like pedophiles,,armed robbery,,knife crime,,domestic violence,,gun crime,,people trafficking,,sexual predators etc etc.
This is the only way as they have tried the "War On Drugs" for over half a century and its consistently failed but other European countries have proven the medical way of prescribed Class A drugs and not the criminal way works.
The biggest and most dangerous drug dealer is our own GP's😢
As a veteran of the War on Drugs, I can confirm that Drugs won
